Herakles eyes the newly arrived Jason curiously;

"Χαιρετισμούς φίλε Ολυμπιονίκη! Είμαι ο Ηρακλής, αδυσώπητος γιος του Δία. Είσαι λοιπόν ο Τζέισον; Πες μου διευθύνεις ένα κόμμα Αργοναυτών σαν τον ευγενή συνονόματό σου; Με την μοχθηρή γλώσσα της Ήρας, ήταν αρχηγός των ανθρώπων, ήταν ήρωας!"

(Ancient) Greek:

"Greetings fellow Olympian! I am Herakles, indominable son of Zeus. So you are Jason? Tell me do you lead a party of Argonauts like your noble namesake? By Hera's spiteful tongue, he was a leader of men, he was a hero!"

The musclebound demigod nods toward the building;

"The innocents hide within. An automaton of Hydra cometh to us... I say draw it away from these folk, then crush it! What say thee Jason of Olympus!?"

Grinning he slaps own shoulders and flexes, readying himself for battle...

Ted is impressed with Maggie's power. If Green Lantern's powers worked with paper then it would essentially be the same. Still, a very potent power they have in their arsenal.

As he followed behind her and her paper golem she checked his BB Gun to make sure it was ready and set on all the proper settings. Its nothing fancy, just compressed air that packs a real big punch and also has a sensory distortion affect to it.

And if things get really serious then he always has his martial arts to fall back on, but he thinks his gun will handle most hostiles. Still, at the moment combat is not on his mind, but answers to questions he has about this world, its enemies, and the potential allies they can find to help battle this Hydra.

"It is said that my mother knew him, that she admired the Jason of old. I only know the legends, but they are a lot to live up to. Yet that is true of your own legends it would seem ..."

The young man smiles

"I say yes, let us fly up to it, lead it off, enter it from above, and destroy it. It need never threaten these people in any way."

Male Human Vigilante | Damaged 0 | Hero Points 0 | Perception +18 | Init +12 | Dodge 8 | Parry 8 | Fortitude 8 | Toughness 8/4 | Will 8 |

Ted notices the enemy vessel in-front of them and wonders about the technology used to create it. His goggles have wireless capabilities to communicate with most machines he has encountered; after all machine language is essentially universal in all multiverses. He attempts to get close enough without be noticed.

Male Demigod | Damaged 0 | Hero Points 0 | Perception +5 | Initiative +3 | Toughness 11 | Dodge 7 | Parry 9 | Deflect 10 | Fortitude 11 | Will 5 |

Herakles rubs his bearded chin and looks upward;

"Fly? Alas I have no Pegasus nor the wing'ed sandals of Hermes at hand friend Jason. If thee can bring them down to me, then we will gloriously dispatch this toy of Hydra!"

Male Human Vigilante | Damaged 0 | Hero Points 0 | Perception +18 | Init +12 | Dodge 8 | Parry 8 | Fortitude 8 | Toughness 8/4 | Will 8 |

Ted moves into a crouch and tries to hide his forward movement towards the paper golem. From there he will make his way to one of the cars ahead of him and try to make a connection with the enemy vessel in-front of them.

Stealth: 1d20 + 16 ⇒ (6) + 16 = 22

Ted moves into position behind a long abandoned auto and listens for any radio communications with the VTOL troop carrier. The guy who calls himself The Sentry grabs the wrecked aircraft as skeletal robot soldiers wielding what Ted thinks are plasma cannons pour out of it.

The Sentry folds the thing up like a big metal taco and flies away with it at high speeds, quickly taking it out of Ted's range.

Ted can, however, hear the comms of the robot warriors. They are all receiving orders to search the area for mutants, aliens, enhanced humans, and humans, in that order of priority, and terminate anyone that they find.

Perception: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (16) + 12 = 28

Ted hears them take note of the big paper golem, and of a heat signature behind an automobile.

I'm going to put a response to some questions in Discussion.

Going to post enemy actions for Round 2 here.

Half of the robots turn toward the paper golem. Purple bolts of plasma lance out from the heavy plasma cannons the hold with both hands.

Plasma cannon attack: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (16) + 6 = 22

Plasma cannon attack: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (1) + 6 = 7

Plasma cannon attack: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (11) + 6 = 17

Plasma cannon attack: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (18) + 6 = 24

Plasma cannon attack: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (10) + 6 = 16

Plasma cannon attack: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (10) + 6 = 16

Plasma cannon attack: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (15) + 6 = 21

Plasma cannon attack: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (1) + 6 = 7

Plasma cannon attack: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (5) + 6 = 11

Plasma cannon attack: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (8) + 6 = 14

I think that is 7 hits if I am using the right stats for the golem.
DC 22 Toughness save. I am writing this based on my belief that these paper summons are supposed to be fairly expendable? That is what I see in the source material I've managed to watch. They can reform quickly when destroyed? I haven't run or played too much summoning, so let me know if I've destroyed your character concept!

If you are using those two cars as cover, then only 4 hits.

Nope, this is working as intended. They will get destroyed and then she can recreate them with the paper that's left. They're meant to--among other things they can do--soak damage in lieu of fleshy people. If she was in a really long, protracted battle, she'd eventually run out of paper, but that shouldn't be a problem for a good while. They are designed to be tough enough that if any ordinary person attacked them--even if one fired a pistol at them --they'd hold up for a little while (especially as they have impervious toughness 6--the giant has 8--which accounts for most ordinary weapons). But a barrage of super robots firing lasers at them should break them up pretty quick.

Yes, let's use the cars for cover

Toughness DC 22: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (6) + 8 = 14
Toughness DC 22: 1d20 + 8 - 1 ⇒ (13) + 8 - 1 = 20
Toughness DC 22: 1d20 + 8 - 2 ⇒ (8) + 8 - 2 = 14
Toughness DC 22: 1d20 + 8 - 3 ⇒ (4) + 8 - 3 = 9

Pieces of paper fly off the giant, some of them singing in the air, and what's left of its body is filled with holes. Suddenly the paper that forms it collapses to the ground entirely, then, as the giant's controller grunts, holding her hands out and flexing her fingers, more paper coalesces and the giant reforms.

The new giant marches forward, punching forward with both appendages, arms stretching forth to pummel one of the robots ahead of it.

Attack: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (1) + 6 = 7
Oh come on, it's too early for this bullshit. Hero point.

Attack: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (10) + 6 = 16
If that hits, Toughness DC 18 Penetrating

I just realized I forgot to give the giant Takedown, which it should have. I won't change it for this fight but remind me to do that later.

Hiding behind the car gives Blue Beetle total cover, meaning I can't target him with the plasma cannons. But I can shoot the car. I am going to make attacks as normal, if they hit, they do +5 damage.[/dice]

Ten of the robots turn toward the car which conceals the adventurer whose hero name back home is Blue Beetle. Their purple plasma bolts tear through the car, vaporizing fist size holes in the car's body and engine.

Plasma cannon attack: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (18) + 6 = 24
Plasma cannon attack: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (5) + 6 = 11

Plasma cannon attack: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (8) + 6 = 14
Plasma cannon attack: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (18) + 6 = 24

The car is torn apart by the barrage, leaving Ted hiding behind a smoking ruin. The remaining skeletal bots zero in on his location. Seemingly in slow motion, the purple glowing bolts from several guns fly toward him.

Suddenly, a circular red and white striped shield, white star on a blue field in the middle, slices into the asphalt in front of Blue Beetle, catching the incoming bolts.

Inspo music

Ted looks left to see a man running toward him. The man wears a brown leather bomber jacket with a blue shoulder pauldron emblazoned with a white star. His sleeve is red and white striped like a US flag. He has a salt and pepper beard and hair. He slides in beside Ted and yanks the shield our of the ground. "Better move to a safer place, soldier."

One of the robots wavers in its steps and then falls to the ground, a two inch hole in its chest plate.

Maggie Perception: 1d20 + 20 ⇒ (6) + 20 = 26

Stealth: 1d20 + 14 ⇒ (7) + 14 = 21

Maggie hears someone approaching from behind her. Turning, she sees a red haired woman wearing a mask over her mouth and a black armored cat-suit approaching, almost silently.

"You might want to take some cover. If those T-800 frames aren't tough enough, Skull-net will send something bigger to deal with you. The fact that you aren't wearing a skull or covered in chrome makes me think you might be on our side, but if not, I won't hesitate to drop you."

As Herakles and Jason discuss their families and their intentions for the enemy, the drop ship, well, drops into the street outside the bookstore. Its side doors open and disgorge robot troops carrying plasma cannons.

Maggie has been moving forward behind her golem, flexing her fingers with arms outstretched. A very, very perceptive person might notice gossamer-thin threads--yes, of paper--connecting her to the paper giant. She's controlling it like a marionette.

Fully in combat mode, situational awareness keys in. She tries to keep track of Beetle while also controlling her familiars, but then senses the motion, smells weapon oil behind her. A woman. Stealthy. Assassin? She speaks a lot for an assassin, though.

Maggie has plenty of cover. It takes but a thought to summon it. She doesn't have time to explain that to the woman, however. She gives a curt nod and a "Ma'am," and holds her position a moment longer, before she glances over in horror at the barrage incoming to Beetle. She chides herself inwardly for letting the woman distract her, because she could have protected him.

But Beetle is protected, fortunately. Her comic book theories seem to be holding as she assumes the new arrival is the Captain America himself, if more grizzled than the Hitler-punching person she described to the others. The woman must be... Red Sparrow? No, that's a different book. Not important right now.

She can't rely on reinforcements to help her and her allies. She must be more vigilant.

Not that I would ever want to deny Cap his heroic entrance, but FYI for future actions: (1) Maggie has Interpose and will use it on nearby allies who are squishy, and (2) Maggie can create a paper object to intervene with area attacks as a reaction. This DOES mean she'd have to stop concentrating on the golem, but if there's another blast that comes at the group, she will do just that--end the golem and reuse the paper to make a defense wall as a reaction. Like so (Sorry I know I've probably linked that vid a million times now, but it's helpful to try to illustrate.)

I will try to identify in future if I'm planning to use interpose and who she'll use it on

To the slides, I added three new character portraits on the same slide. To the links at the top of the page in the short campaign description, I added a link to Tactical Map Too for Herak and Jason.

In this case, I would use GM fiat to give the heroic entrance to Cap, and am happy, if appropriate, to offer a Hero Point in exchange.

Maggie should be aware that something is literarily familiar but not quite right with the two characters who have entered the scene.

I'll take the hero point if you're giving it! :) It also occurs to me the reaction-protect-wall will get destroyed really fast because its Toughness is only 4, but it should be useful for effective AOEs.

Sure, take a hero point!

Hmm. That didn't work out like I wanted. Next time, I'll wait to see if my action works, before declaring my move.

Lightning seems to flash in his eyes as he surveys the robots

"Who's first?"

I've taken all of my actions. Sentry has kicked off a new round. (As Sentry learns what he is doing, some Area strength based attacks to reflect moving really fast and punching a bunch of minions) would probably be a good idea.

Everyone else has a rounds worth of actions and/or talking.

As Sentry flies back into the ruined parking lot, he takes note of the man talking to Blue Beetle and holding a round shield, the masked red haired woman talking to Maggie, and a third figure on the roof of a blasted out building behind the red haired woman. That man has a sniper rifle and appears to be targeting the robots.

Jason, Herak, Blue Beetle have actions to take. I'll bot Herakles. I don't love botting people. It always feels intrusive to me. But since I was asked.

On any world, Herakles knows that Hydra, and indeed all fascists, are good for only one thing. With a mighty cry, he leaps through the broken window. "Thou hast made a fatal mistake, iron servants of evil! Mayhaps the natives of this realm quell in fear at your approach, but not so the Lion of Hellas!"

He was intending to try and hack into the ship's systems to collect some information, but that seems to be a Plan B idea now; Plan A is trying to defeat these Skull Robots.

Trying his best to be useful in dealing with killer robots he tries to line up a shot where he can hit one with a concussive blast and have it be pushed back into another robot to disrupt their aim.

Jason's lightning hits the murderous robot in the chest. Its titanium endoskeleton glows red and melts as the electricity overloads its systems. It wobbles and topples to the broken asphalt.

The red haired woman follows Maggie, taking refuge behind the paper wall. To Maggie, she says, "Nice to meet you, stranger. You are some sort of paper controlling mutant? You aren't on any of the registries, but the Sentinels can still detect you, right? How have you lived all this time. Where are you hiding out?"

As for Cap, he looks at Maggie in a way that makes her feel completely seen and analyzed, but she also has the sense that he completely understands her and values her. That sense of "this isn't quite right" continues to ring in Maggie's mind.

The adamantium-vibranium alloy of the shield, combined with the expert attack of this super-soldier, cuts through the robots like a knife through butter.

Only one of the robots closest to BB and Maggie remains in fighting form.

Blue Beetle should have a round of actions here, I think.

She's not going to answer the last question. Even if she had an answer, the infiltrator/spy she assumes the woman to be should understand that you don't tell a total stranger where you were hiding.

The "not quite right" feeling: is it simply that this isn't "616" or is it that something else feels off?

Ted looks upon the lone Skullbot and fires his BB Gun at it. The pressure of the compressed air should be enough to spend it flying back.

Air Blast 10: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (4) + 10 = 14
Air Blast: Move Object 10, range: 50/100/250 ft, push 25 tons away from user, DC 25, Damaging (Crit 20)

We can now apply this to the BB gun.

Robot Str Check vs 20: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (1) + 7 = 8

As fires a concentrated jet of compressed air, slamming the robot in the chest and lifting it off the ground. It slams into a car and then skids across the street into a building. The robots glowing red eyes dim.

Toughness save vs DC 23: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (11) + 8 = 19

The obvious conclusion here is that this is Steve Rogers, Natasha Romanova, and Bucky Barnes. At least obvious for someone who has super-literate as a power. But the moves aren't quite right. Cap doesn't seem quite as easy in his movements as you would expect. Widow doesn't have an accent and doesn't feel quite super-spy cool.

The robots seem confused by the sudden array of targets. But they quickly make a decision and turn their fire toward the Star Spangled Man with a Plan.

Plasma Cannon against Shield Guy: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (8) + 6 = 14
Plasma Cannon against Shield Guy: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (18) + 6 = 24
Plasma Cannon against Shield Guy: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (4) + 6 = 10
Plasma Cannon against Shield Guy: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (16) + 6 = 22
Plasma Cannon against Shield Guy: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (19) + 6 = 25

Three hits

Toughness Save DC 21: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (3) + 9 = 12
Toughness Save DC 21-1: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (15) + 9 = 24
Toughness Save DC 21-1: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (20) + 9 = 29

-1 to Saves and Dazed for 1 round. (1 action only)

Meanwhile, back with Herakles and Jason:

The flying transport rises into the air and hovers in reverse, probably to provide air support.

With a target so near their grasp, the robots closest to Herakles turn to melee attacks. With no thought for their own safety, their fists pummel the Mighty Mortal.

All Out attack Melee: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (17) + 11 = 28
All Out attack Melee: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (4) + 11 = 15
All Out attack Melee: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (5) + 11 = 16
All Out attack Melee: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (12) + 11 = 23
All Out attack Melee: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (3) + 11 = 14

Their risk does not pay off, as they land only two hits.

Two DC 25 Toughness Saves for Herak.

Fighting plasma with plasma (lightning is plasma, right?) The remaining robots turn their fire on Jason.

Plasma Cannon Attack: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (15) + 6 = 21
Plasma Cannon Attack: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (4) + 6 = 10
Plasma Cannon Attack: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (18) + 6 = 24
Plasma Cannon Attack: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (16) + 6 = 22
Plasma Cannon Attack: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (8) + 6 = 14

3 Hits for Jason. DC 21 Tougness Saves vs Plasma Cannon.

Round 4: Heroes Go!

This "Cap" was perhaps not as invincible as he seemed. This needed to end. Frowning, Maggie increased her concentration, pulling in the paper wall as well as all that was scattered everywhere. The tornado of paper again swirled together and this time formed a massive snake, which tore through the ground, tunneled beneath the parking lot, and then burst out of the ground, jaws wide as it attempted to "swallow" the remaining robots.

Spending Extra Effort to add Area Effect, cylinder, to the Snake's Swallow Power. It is a grab-based effect. Any it hits it needs to resist its rank 6 effect (or if I can use Strength here, Str 8). Failure degrees are Hindered, Immobile, Paralyzed.

Attack Robot 1: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (12) + 6 = 18
Attack Robot 2: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (10) + 6 = 16
Attack Robot 3: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (19) + 6 = 25
Attack Robot 4: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (18) + 6 = 24

The black circles on the map are the holes in the ground created by the snake burrowing

BTW, all I am able to understand from "something is off" is "you are in an alternate universe." Which Maggie is going to assume anyway--she doesn't have reason to think things are exactly like the books even if characters are obviously familiar. The fact that it is "not quite Cap" also goes with the fact that Maggie has teamed up with "not quite Superman" and "not Hercules but Herakles" and a Jason who is son of Zeus rather than Aeson. If you are trying to hint at something else, it is not apparent to me.

Round 4

Sentry nods in accomplishment to himself when the robots blow away. Then, he stares in confusion at the snake of paper attempting to swallow the robots. Since the machines are the enemies, he assumes this paper creation is from Maggie. He waits to see if the robots are consumed.

If any of the robots survive, he stares at it. The crimson twinkle in his eyes grows to blinding orbs the size of this eyes and then sends two beams of into the robot.

Heat Vision All-out Attack: 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (5) + 15 = 20
Heat Vision: All-out Attack +15, Damage 10, –5 on Dodge and Parry, = -2 on Dodge and -1 Parry

Sentry has Takedown 2. If he hits, can he fire at another minion?

def do NOT remember saying that; he is Jason Prince, Wonder Woman's twin brother. Fraternal twins actually, as in, they have the same parents; Zeus & Hippolyta. Jason was born second. Hippolyta actually named him in remembrance of the other one you referred to.

I think DQ/Maggie is just saying you all seem like Variants to her, so the Cap trio being variants aren't standing out as anything special.

Maggie, not a big deal that Maggie hasn't identified them yet or even if she doesn't. We are fighting Hydra, that is all that matters for the moment. And getting the band together.

Robot vs Swallow DC 21: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (2) + 7 = 9

They all fail, and they are minions, so they suffer the worst result of failing. They are all paralyzed as the snake swallows them.

Sentry notices that the robot that Blue Beetle shot into the wall has reactivated and is standing up. He blasts it with fire from his eyes, cutting it in half.
