Seizing the advantage, the party strikes hard and fast.
Swizzers moves to a better spot while the others attack.
Rogers goes for the head, drawing blood. The others connect too, though Ohmarc knows he got lucky.
Hardened pirates aren't just going to take it. With some quick orders it's clear that Roger's is face to face with Captain Nodrag Nao. The captain stays in melee, opting for a red star plasma doshko
ATK: 1d20 + 17 ⇒ (2) + 17 = 19, but he swung before he was ready.
The others split their focus, using hook swords on the party:

Ohmarc moves into position and casts Force Blast in a cone shaped blast!
The cone affects Black, Red, White, and Blue.
Force Damage: 2d6 ⇒ (5, 3) = 8
Reflex DC 18 for Half
Plus, the spell attempts to knock them all back by 5 feet.
Bull Rush Combat Maneuver vs. KAC +8: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (5) + 13 = 18
Additionally, the force from this spell effectively attempts to bull rush all creatures in the area. Attempt a single bull rush combat maneuver, using your caster level + your key ability score modifier as your attack bonus. Compare the result to each target’s KAC + 8. If you’re successful, that creature is knocked back 5 feet, plus 5 additional feet for every 5 by which your attack exceeds the creature’s KAC + 8. If there is an obstacle in the way, the creature stops at the obstacle instead.

Rogers doesn't let up, trying to keep the captain off balance as he brings his axe around again and again.

Ohmarc blasts the area:

REF Black: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (18) + 5 = 23 PASS
REF Blue: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (8) + 5 = 13 FAIL
...hurting all of them, but not knocking any back.
Rogers lays into the captain, leaving him severely wounded as blood oozes out from the cracks in his armor. Trylara's assault is also overwhelming. She drops one of the pirates from point blank range.
An instant later Officer Swizzers knocks the doshko out of the captain's hands, though there's no surrender in his gimlet eyes.

Lady Lanius connects on her follow up swing with a tremendous blow. The hobgoblin is reeling, but not out of the fight just yet.

Swizzers, you are CORRECT. I am wrong. He'd be the type of pirate to take the risk, which means your awesome disarm replaces one of his hits with a move to pick up... a move that draws! Given that you both missed, I'll save the prose for your AoOs.

Swizzers is determined to capture this pirate captain alive!
@GM: I'm happy enough that it kept one of the two attacks off Rogers! Alas in Starfinder, picking up a weapon doesn't provoke an AoO (my cheat sheet device is that there's only 3 things that provoke: casting a spell, using a ranged weapon, or leaving a threatened square)

Game Master S |

Gah! My bad. Sorry. I'm ctively playing PF1, PF2, SF1, SF2, 5e, and G.I. Joe. I'm starting to lose track of rules.
Lanius presses, scoring a solid blow, but unable to follow it up. Suddenly the odds seem truly stacked against the pirates - and they know it. They eye the exit, the odds of making it, and then their fallen comrades. In the end they opt for violence.

"Well, this is um... I appreciate this. you know you're WAY off course if you're here. Right?"
she quickly regains her composure. Clearly, she doesn't want to waste time here. "We better go if you're to have a hope of a decent finish!"

![]() |

"We decided responding to a distress signal was more important than winning the race. That said...yeah, let's get out of here."

Game Master S |

She looks at each of you, finally settling on Trylara, "Let's GO!"
Heroics aside, your detour still took you far enough off-course for the race that it takes them the rest of the night to get back on track. As the morning of the third day dawns, you find yourselves in a final mad dash for the finish line with the rest of the competition!
Shockingly, you find yourselves still in the lead, albeit barely. this won't be easy!
The FINAL STRETCH!
1st: YOU
2nd: Golden Ratio
3rd: Raycatcher
4th: Dust Monster
In the frenzied dash for the finish line, what you need most to keep your lead is extra speed. You can choose to boost the speed at either the engine or the sails. Boosting the speed at the sails requires either an Athletics or a Sleight of Hand check. Boosting the speed at the engine requires either an Engineering or a Mysticism check. Both locations can’t be boosted at the same time without causing too much stress on the hull and threatening to rip the ship apart. One of you needs to Pilot still.

![]() |

If some of you prefer sails, I can forgo my roll, but Mysticism is definitely much better for me. I vote boost the engines.
Ohmarc using his mysticism to try and boost the engines!
Mysticism: 1d20 + 19 ⇒ (7) + 19 = 26
Depending on the success or failure of that roll, I can still pull out a Campaign Coin Reroll if we need it. I will wait to hear the results first.

Swizzers holds on for dear life as the ship accelerates!
@Ohmarc: Sure, it's all the same to me.

Game Master S |

The team pushes as hard as possible. With the line approaching, there's no reason to hold anything in reserve!
Unfortunately, every team is doing the same, and they all keep pace. If anything, the Dust Monster seems to be picking up more speed than most.

3rd: Raycatcher
4th: Dust Monster

Glory to those who are unfaltering in their righteousness!"

Lady Lanius suddenly brings a lot of power to the sails with a prayer.
BOOM!

They fly over the competition, spraying all the other ships, including yours, with magical fallout that causes your engines to malfunction. You can overcome this obstacle with a successful Mysticism check or, since you've got Tayyara, with a successful Bluff or Diplomacy check to play to her ego and convince her she can fix it instead.
The Dust Monster crashes into the sands a hundred meters short of the finish line. Its crew is unharmed and too busy celebrating the cool explosion to care that they can no longer finish the race.
