GM Super Zero |

Have you played/GMed/read this before?
Anything unusual mechanics for your character I should know about (Dubious Knowledge, That's Odd, etc.)?
In the event that a player is expected for more than 24 hours in combat or another situation where we're waiting on that person, I may bot you. I will not use any consumable resources unless asked. If you'd like to share some bot instructions in your profile, great!
On the Slides (also linked in the header), you'll find space to add your character information and token and to set a general marching order.
There's some information and images for you there, as well.
Make sure there's a character sheet accessible in your profile.

Hey Folks, I decided to jump in as a 5th one. I will consume a replay here ;) This is brand new Rogue that I made (my first one), so we will see how it goes. I do recall very little of that Quest ;)
Heya all!
I will fill Hum's profile today, I have it all in Pathbuilder

![]() |

Hmm. looks like I'm not the only one crazy enough to spend a replay on a Quest! :)
I have played and GM'ed this but it's been awhile...

![]() |

Oh! We're already up and running! Fantastic! I've never played pf2e before but I have some years as a player in DND, and I've consumed a fair bit of pf2e actual play content (primarily glass cannon). I really want to IRL GM pathfinder for a couple of buddies of mine, but this whole PFS + PBP feels like it could be an awesome side-hobby - very excited to get going and nice to meet you all! :D
I'm unsure of whether or not there's anything special you should know about my character. I did a trial combat to learn the system from a GM perspective, and I couldn't figure out whether his deadly simplicity trait from favored weapon bumps up the staff when it's two-handed D8. I ended up preparing for a turn, two-handing the staff and casting runic weapon on it, and then once the enemy came close enough I whacked 'em for 2D10+2, which seemed like too much? (I asked in some discords and there doesn't seem to be any confident replies for or against.) I think the consensus was that it was up to the GM, so I will let you rule whatever you think makes most sense. :D
I'll add stuff to my profile, but maybe double check? And thanks again so much for taking in a noob. Your patience is appreciated!
PS: Do I post as my character or as my profile here?

GM Super Zero |

Runic weapon is a very strong spell at first level. 1d10+2 is pretty good, but that's with a two-handed weapon. Two-handed weapons are supposed to be a little stronger, since you're giving up a free hand or shield for it. It's not stronger than a two-handed martial character, or a Rogue with Sneak Attack.
Posting in the discussion thread with your character profile is pretty standard practice. Easier to keep track of, and keeps your stat line visible. But it's not like a rule or anything.

What are GM Glyphs?
Hey Mate! I meant to say hi, and I got wrapped up with other things. It is great to meet you and have you playing at the same table.
To answer immediate question: GM Glyphs is a way to give rewards for GM's if you GM'ed at least certain amount of scenarios/adventure paths you 1-5 glyphs, first glyph you get after GM'ing 10 tables, 2 after 30 tables, 5th after I think 150 (and you need to pass some other requirements)> Glyph allows you to give 1 extra Hero POint to another player.
The maximum that player can start with is 2 hero points, so when among the players there are 6 glyphs everyone starts with 2 hero points. That's roughly the story. They serve no other purpose
Since you could be new to Society play and PBP, yeah it is a great medium to RP on daily basis, to give you some perspective, it roughly takes 2 months to play thorugh scenario (4-5 h worth of game tiem in real life), around 1-1.5 week to play through quest/bounty (1-1.5 h in real time). Quest usually consist of 1 skill check and 1 fight + RP before and after, so a lot of times it can happen that fight will go very fast (I played few times when my PC didn't have a chance to hit the enemy and it was over ;)). So yeah try it out before setting up your mind ;)
If you have any other questions shoot, despite folks being mostly quiet they are friendly bunch :D

![]() |

Ahoy! That's alright, I reckon most of us picked this particular form of play because we're already busy bees. :D
Aaah that makes sense. So basically a nice little bonus to the folks who love GM'ing, to give to their players?
Also, did we start with a hero point? A free re-roll, right? Should I have noted that on my sheet then?
Ah, that's helpful. So this is just a little quest, then? So likely we'll be figuring out the puzzle with the ship and then fighting whatever thing might be out there?
One thing I forgot to realize was that I guess my character technically already joined the faction and must have visited their lodge and become an official recruit/member?

GM Super Zero |

You start with one Hero Point, which can be used to reroll a die or to avoid dying. You can note it on your character sheet, though I also put space for them on the slides.
The party can start with extra if any players have GM Glyphs. Who'd you like to give your Glyph point to, Tharpe?
GMs are also supposed to award approximately one per hour. Since this adventure is only supposed to take about an hour (when played in real-time, obviously), I may or may not award one at some point.
All PFS (as in the real-world organized play organization) characters are members of the PFS (as in the in-universe adventuring organization). That way we get to start right with a briefing instead of needing a scene for an adventure hook and getting the group together. That part is done. The Venture-Captain is an organizer for the group the PCs already work for, so he's arranged for a team and is giving them an assignment rather than trying to convince them to take a job.

![]() |

That's very cool. And very helpful! Straight to the point. Is there any stuff I can read about how these things normally go - how people typically become Pathfinders? Is there a "canon" for noobies to read somewhere?
https://pathfinderwiki.com/wiki/Pathfinder_Society
This reads like I might have been training for a few years already?

GM Super Zero |

There used to be some rules for accounting for Pathfinder Training, but they could be a little complicated. They were replaced recently with the easier Pathfinder Provisions.
Who's getting the Glyph points, Lorqinor?

![]() |

Sorry I ignored my quesiton about who gets hero point as I know that Watery Soup had 3 glyphs, and Tiger has I think 4 => all in all each and every one of us should have 2 hero points

![]() |

Hey folks, just a note from Froggy:
'Pls inform our table in Q3 that my home PC suddenly died. Also pls inform Pirate Rob of the same thing (I'm in his 1-23) game. I'll have to troubleshoot my PC when I get home.'

![]() |

I thought I had to roll the dice myself, physically, and got a natural 1. But then I noticed that you guys had green text, and so I redid it with the formatting. It just gives me a random number? Thats actually pretty cool! Keeps the game honest. :D

GM Super Zero |

Each character gets one free:
minor healing potion,
minor oil of unlife,
lesser antidote,
lesser bravo's brew,
miraculous miniature (ladder),
oil of potency,
potency crystal,
silver salve, or
first-rank scroll of heal, mystic armor, or runic weapon.
Healing potion (or oil of unlife, if undead or otherwise have Negative Healing) is the default option, so specify if you'd rather take something else. It's free for the adventure, but not kept if unused.

![]() |

Oooh thanks Coral! So do I have two hero points? Are they kept throughout this quest as well as the next? Or should I use them liberally?
Whats this free school business? Is there a place I'm supposed to keep up with these things? Can I just add a minor healing potion to my inventory?
So many questions from the rookie @.@

GM Super Zero |

Hero Points are airways per session.
I just have you the list due the free consumable. That's also use-it-or-lose-it.
Though since "emergency potion" is the popular choice they often go unused.

When I roll for my nature thing, should I preview the post and continue my response? I didn't meet the DC so I haven't checked what's inside the spoiler, but after posting I realize that I don't quite understand what I'm seeing, yet, and would probably comment on it? Certainly I would have described what my thoughts were had I made the DC? No?
What's the etiquette of the in-built rolling system, is the question, I guess. And the process of posting, based on a roll I get. :D

Overall it is fine to preview and adjust your post, if you meet the DC I like to describe what the spoiler has, tell it using your PCs way of speaking and all that. If you don't fill like it, or you don't have time, you can simply leave a note:
Feel free to read the spoiler
Some people don't do it and assume that it is the rule:
- I made the check, so everyone can read the spoiler. So something to keep in mind
=====================
With regards to loot, in society games loot represents effectively how much money we will get at the end of the scenario. The list of given items: crowbars, spears and healing potions would not persist beyond this session. So if you find use for them - cool, no one will fight you on it. The healing potion could be the most 'crucial' as if some of us will go into dying it may be relevant ;)
Overall most players do not care about such loot, and there are some mechanics that are not clear. For example:
Witch can learn a spell by letting her familiar to eat a scroll with a spell. And it does not cost money, so when you play with a Witch it is a good idea to snatch every scroll and let your familiar eat it as known spell would persist beyond a session. So there are those wierd cases.

Sorry for suddenly disappearing -- my home PC crashed on Friday (disk just upped and went Dying 4). I was dead in the water all weekend and only got back up and running today.

![]() |

Welcome back Chuckles! Hope you didn't lose any irreplaceable data - disk failure is scary stuff like that. D:
Anyway, you're just in time, I think, as we've arrived on the scene and found the gorget and the dead king. Something nasty probably lurks in the water, and we'll surely need your help for that. :D

![]() |

I think I'm a little confused by the turns in the combat? It feels like we're all just attacking again, a little randomly? Is it really my turn again already?
Penny attacked then I attacked and then the two serpents attacked and then Penny went again?
Maybe it's the pbp format of combat that's just catching me off guard. :D

GM Super Zero |

Sorry, I knew you were new to PFS, but I thought you were familiar with pbp.
Since waiting for a specific person to post, even in a relatively fast-moving game aiming at one post/day, can take a couple days (you might have to wait for that player and then wait for the GM to respond), most pbp GMs do something to make it run a little quicker.
Since this is organized play, I can't change the actual rules here. So this method is pretty standard on this forum: I just highlight all consecutive PCs. If you wanted to act in a particular order, consecutive PCs can always Delay for each other without losing anything. So if it matters for what you're trying to do, you can always specify that you're Delaying for another character to go first. And if you're not concerned about that, resolving in posting order is simplest for everybody.
Though players at the top of the Initiative order sometimes wait a little so they don't jump on their second turn before some people have taken their first.
Since the two enemies happened to take consecutive turns themselves, that means that the next six combatants just happen to be the entire party.

Farol |

Yeah, what GM said ;) In PBP people will most likely do block initiative ;) In real time game, you would go creature by creature, resolving actions and all. Since PBP tends to be slower and wait time would drag the fight to days for one round, most have agreed to resolve initiative in blocks.
You group all players that are next to each other into one block, and when their time comes they can post all at once. It creates some challenges and opportunities ;) [as many things in PBP]
1. You can post as a third one and the creature could simply be dead at that point ;) Then GM will go with best guess ('I will move you and take two attacks vs the other creature') Or will ask you to redo your round
2. At times GM can decide to reschufle as bard will post last buffing the party, so GM can decide that buff will go first, or recall knowledge will happen before you cast your spell
3. Reactions are a bit akward (Attack of Opportunity - is rare but still happen, but then there are Champion reacitons to strike, Shield Block, Spells that are reactions and all) - the best approach that I saw is to include it in your post either as a spoiler:
Here comes attack roll
Or a ooc block
If any creature strikes Kahawa I will use Glimpse - give resistance 3 and enfeebled 2 on the creature for a round
Overall I would recommend reading Gm Doug profile he has some good links and descriptions. Some of them are his preferences but it is a good starting point ;)

![]() |

Ooooh that makes so much sense! To clarify, I've played lots of DND in real time over the board, so maybe that's why it was surprising to see Penny "skipping turns" like that. xD
That make sense then. We get to get a little creative with our stuff, here
in the PBP sphere, but on the other hand we get to see characters like Penny who manages to speak in limericks for his entire dialogue, which would probably be close to impossible in real time.
I suppose things like bless might be a little more difficult to pull off, since I wouldn't necessarily know where people are. Overall I still think it's a very cool format! I love waking up in the morning and checking the "latest action" as well as it being the last thing I do before bed. :D
I'll take a look at Gm Dough and his tips and tricks! I'd love any and all information on this genre that I can get my grubby little hands on! Thanks Farol!

![]() |

Ooooohhh so "Target? Kahawa/Penny/Obelix/Chuckles: 1d4 ⇒ 4" is your way of randomly determining who is hit, and then it rolled to Chuckles was the one taking the hit? That makes sense too! And interesting way to have a wild creature target something. I'll delete my fortitude save post then?

GM Super Zero |

It's not hurting anything. Deleting die rolls confuses the anti-cheating system.
Try not to change the order you make rolls. For the same reason, if you realize you forgot something that should have been done first, it's better to just add it after and put a note on it.
I suppose things like bless might be a little more difficult to pull off, since I wouldn't necessarily know where people are.
And that's why just resolving posts in the order they were posted is one of the most common ways to do it.

![]() |

GAH... dice bot doesn't like me for this one... three crit fails in the same encounter... two in the same turn even!! :)

![]() |

Ahahah thats some rotten luck Chucko! I hope my turn helps you not go down. I didn't know whether to go attack or to help, but I think Kahawa is more concerned with keeping people alive than actively killing monsters.
I don't know if there's a better mechanical way I could help you with confused other than guidance? A slap to the face once the serpent goes down? :D

GM Super Zero |

The effect causing it is a poison, so anything that helps with poisons might help.
Regardless, we seem to be getting close to the end, so please look over RPGChronicles and make sure that's in order. If you'd like to make downtime checks feel free.
Kahawa, PFS characters get two days of downtime per XP, so for this adventure just two. While it's more relevant if you need to use retraining or want to Craft, if you don't have anything particular in mind you might as well Earn Income.
Organized Play, of course, has guidelines to standardize the "job search" part: You can always find a job of your level -2 (minimum 0) that uses the standard DC of the task level, for Crafting, Performance, or any Lore skill. You don't have to spend any time finding the job and can make the check for all of your downtime days. It's still a pretty low amount compared to adventuring.
Downtime is managed between sessions by the player, and doesn't require your table GM to oversee it. I invite players to make the checks here if they want for two main reasons: Many people like to make the check before they leave the table so they don't forget, and the RPGChronicles tool lets the GM add that and it'll get printed on the pdf for you.

Legal lore: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (11) + 3 = 14
Tharpe helps to fill out tax declaration to some sailors, but despite or due to his new creative approach to taxes and liberal approach what can be deducted, most of the sailors got audited and fined

![]() |

Oh, wow, that was quick, actually! I guess we did very good? :D
I'm curious if "Aid" could help with the confusion/poison situation? I just kinda threw a guidance to whoever might be able to restrain, and didn't spend the rest of my actions. Any general gameplay tips for a situation like this? I thought about readying Heal, to heal us all after Chuckles takes his turn, but I don't think I can ready a 3 action thing? I spend 2 actions readying a single action, right?
Also, I just realized that concentration isn't a thing in Pathfinder? My spells have the "Concentrate" trait, so I thought runic weapon would go away if I cast Guidance, since they both require concentration, but it just means I wouldn't be able to cast them in certain situations?

![]() |

Okay so I might need some more help with this downtime stuff.
First of all, I don't really know what to "look over" on RPGChronicles. Do I add something? Or make sure Super has added something? Once again I thank you for your patience with a newb. <3 :D
Secondly, regarding downtime:
If I'm reading it correctly, only Crafting, Performance or Lore are viable skills for downtime? Or are those just listed as examples in the link you sent?
Also, I picked 'Specialty Crafting' when building my character, in order to brew coffee for the group, in the mornings. Can I spend downtime crafting and selling coffee in the market? Or maybe its better to just craft the coffee, and keep it? I'm sure people in this cold climate could use something nice and hot to drink? :D
So if I had to just take a stab at it, I would choose Crafting, which is a +3, I would add +1 for specialty crafting, and then I would roll a D20, looking to clear a task level 1 at DC 15, where a success nets me 2 sp and a failure nets me 2 cp - right?
There are two coffees on AoE, could I potentially make one of those?:
Bloodeye Coffee

Insight Coffee

Chuckles and Cupcake dance for the gathered crowd.
Performance, DC 14: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (19) + 7 = 26
Crit Success; 4 sp

Task level 0, actually. DC 14. For Earn Income, your level is (Character Level) - 2. So at level 1 and 2 your DC is 14.
Success - 1 sp
Failure - 2 cp
Crit Success - 4 sp (1 level higher)
As for the two coffees, you need to also have Alchemical Crafting to create either item, as well as the recipe for it.

GM Super Zero |

An effect that needs constant concentration is handled by a Sustained duration--though it's a different mechanic, needing to spend actions versus breaking concentration when attacked.
The Concentrate trait just means that the action requires focus. It doesn't have any mechanics of its own, but is referenced by other things (Barbarians can't Concentrate while raging, Inventors with the right feat can attack Concentrating enemies with the Distracting Explosion feat, etc.).

![]() |

Crafting, DC 14: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (19) + 3 = 22
Taking a nice break from his first outing as a pathfinder, Kahawa delights in working a job as a cook at the local inn. He knows his way around a kitchen, and he puts as much love into cooking as he would preparing coffee back home. He earns a silver piece and some gossip for his efforts.
Aah and then we get 5 CP per day for a success and we do it 2 days so it's 1 SP. (please correct me if I'm wrong.)
Success: 1 SP.

![]() |

Now I just need to figure out what to do about the RPGChronicles. n.n'

GM Super Zero |

You are overthinking it. I just meant double-check that your information looks right before I distribute Chronicles and report it.
