What's the save DC?
It's DC14 (usually haunts don't have Will saves and take full damage so I didn't originally include it).
Also Victor would have to get within touch range which puts him within touch range of the Haunt.
Oops, where abouts is the haunt, I'd assumed it was all around us? If we are not yet in the haunted area, Victor would probably wait to cast the spell until just before we reached it and then move to touch the haunt after casting the spell. I also realised I hadn't rolled the touch attack...
touch attack vs haunt: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (11) + 4 = 15
GM Shadow Dragon |

I should've specified; it's area B2 on the map where the Haunt is located. The red lightning strike crater is at the middle of B2.

![]() |

”Watch out! This Haunt works like the spell entangle. Be careful when you approach it, you might not be able to leave so easy.”
She quickly explains what the spell Entangle does, even though nobody asked her to.
Would that be called womansplaining? :-)
”It's vulnerable to positive energy and fire, though, so my bombs should work just fine.”

![]() |

Cannoli moves up and casts a spell, her hand glows with happy healing energy. ”Aight, stop dilly dallying and let’s get in there to take out the haunt so the Doc can get his samples. I’m gonna use my healing awesomeness, you all use whatever else works.”
Move, cast and hold charge of CLW. Should be able to get in range next round.

GM Shadow Dragon |

Daegon tries to damage the haunt with a small blob of acid.

Cannoli gets the honor of striking the Haunt but we'll see if she's entangled while doing so muahaha!.
Ref Cannoli: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (9) + 3 = 12
Unfortunately Cannoli is *not* cat quick this time and the thorny vines grab her and tear at her flesh! Will she be able to damage the haunt or will she need to be rescued?!?
Okay the last part is theatric; it does no physical damage. Cannoli does, however, gain the Entangled condition: "Entangled: The character is ensnared. Being entangled impedes movement, but does not entirely prevent it unless the bonds are anchored to an immobile object or tethered by an opposing force. An entangled creature moves at half speed, cannot run or charge, and takes a –2 penalty on all attack rolls and a –4 penalty to Dexterity. An entangled character who attempts to cast a spell must make a concentration check (DC 15 + spell level) or lose the spell." More in Discussion.

”Oh hey, that worked. Everyone do more of that!”
With a prolonged wail of agony there is an explosion of spiritual energy as the tangled vines fade away and release Cannoli from its unholy grasp!
Although the haunt is dispersed the release of energy seems to trigger...something else...Red, slimy, shifting ectoplasm bubbles and churns inside this five foot crater. Surrounding the ectoplasm, a mass of twisted hands and angry faces are formed in the dirt. Unlike those in the previous crater, these shapes convulse and wail with hateful life.
The ectoplasm splits into three blobs, each one forming into a humanoid shape that look human except they have a horned brow, clawed hands, and goatish legs with cloven hooves!

Like any true non-adventurer the good Dr. is too stunned, scared, inexperienced, etc. to act.
Since Quinn's player is away for the weekend I'll bot him. Is anyone interested in being Enlarged? Remember it's a one round casting time so it wouldn't come into effect until next round.

The good Doctor has all of the testing/collecting apparatus.
"I knew you were just the right group of adventurers to assist me! Well done well done!"
Once Guardian XI gives the all clear Dr. Quolorum rushes forward and has Victor, Guardian XI, and Vreekka help set up all of the instruments which hum to life with a multitude of lights, whirring noises, moving parts, dials, and gauges.
"Hm very interesting wait who would've thought that?!?! What does this mean? All of the data is wonderful I say wonderful!"
He literally hops around in joy from instrument to instrument and then makes his way to the area charred by the red lightning strike.
He then produces two specially crafted storage containers to harvest some of the red ectoplasm bubbling in the crater.
"Wait until all of the skeptics back at the Sincomakti School of Sciences see these! Loon they called me; crackpot; crazy! Hah guess old Wynberthmaerbeorht will get the last laugh on them eh? I couldn't have done this without all of you. You've made one of my dreams come true!"
Dr. Quolorum gets a bit emotional as he places the now-filled storage containers carefully in a case.
Congratulations group! You have successfully completed the 'Lightning' chapter! I'll let you all post any IC conversations, actions, etc. before moving on to whichever chapter the group selects.

Guardian is a little taken aback by the professor's emotion.
Wow. This guy really likes his ooze. I mean... ectoplasm.

Perhaps there is a research paper about this in the future for you, Professor. That will cement your place in the scientific community.#3 works for me

![]() |

Vreekka was already preparing to throw another bomb when Victor ended the last threat.
Aw. I was just getting my throwing arm warmed up. But I don't like being punched, so maybe it's better this way...
Being both relieved and disappointed and at the same time, she observes Professor Quolorum babble excitedly about the ectoplasm, then silently helps with the set up of the instruments.
"No need to thank me, Professor. Just fill me in on the knowledge you gain from all of this - because I like to know things - and that's thanks enough."
#3 works for me, too.

Dr. Ouorlorum looks startled at Cannoli's question, "Why no one ever asked me about my dreams before. They always seem to remember they forgot to do something and hurry off to whatever that is. You see I'd like to expand my program at the Sincomakti School of Sciences to include studies of other occult occurrences and perhaps delve into the nature of lycanthropic curses, how the Negative Energy Plane can 'reach' into our world and fuel the undead, perhaps expand into other campuses and..."

"If you travel back to the village of Dunhob I've secured rooms for you at the Lucky Lantern. For some reason the villagers seemed eager to rent out the rooms specifically to your group. You must've made a positive impression on them! I need to return to the School to study the data from the instruments and the ectoplasm. I will send a package to help with your next quest. You will be going to Illirigarde Manor; I believe you learned a bit about Lady Illirigarde during your first mission. Maybe the local people will know something about the current state or even background information. Now where did I put my glasses?"
His glasses resting above his eyes, Dr. Quolorum heads back to Rozenport.
PCs can make either a Diplomacy (Gather Information) or a Knowledge (Local). If you wish one PC can make the check and have the other PCs aid them. She makes either the Evil Eye at Victor or just pulls a face...it's tough to tell.Blacksmith Grigore tells Cannoli, "It's said that the Lady Illirigarde's mirrors never seemed to work quite right after she died; they always seemed to reflect the house as it once was, not as it is now. Do you need some steel covers for the claws of yours to make them even more deadly?"
