Dr. Quolorum is practically jumping up and down with excitement!
"What do you mean when you say you used Gorum's Eye to 'seal the well'? What, exactly, happened??? Psychometry eh? That Venture Captain fellow sure knew who to select for this mission! Ah so there were more morlocks in the well?"
While listening to whomever is speaking to whom Dr. Quolorum carefully examines the drawings of the various glyphs.

There was a glyph that we activated that sealed the lid. I'm assuming it was some form of enchantment used by a devotee of Gorum...it makes the most sense, after all. I hadn't thought to examine it...but then again, that kind of aura is way above my level of expertise. Call it a semi-educated guess. Daegon says, as he rolls his shoulder, reminding himself to see a priest about the pain.

"Fascinating! This is why I keep telling the administrators of the Sincomakti School of Sciences that fieldwork, while expensive and dangerous, is so critical! I wonder if Gorum's Eye might be effective in protecting you against whatever is causing the strange phenomena in the Hungry Mountains? And perhaps the nearby residents such as here in Dunhob? So many questions, so little time! What else did you find in the area?"

![]() |

Okay, so where am I taking this morlock? Which direction is Thrushmoor? It's close by right?
Guardian looks all around him to the distances presuming it's a place he can see nearby.

"You have other missions to attend to; I'll handle the morlock situation. It is tightly bound yes? Perhaps manacles are in order?"

![]() |

At the mention of wet dog Cannoli’s eyes go shifty, ”Ok, listen. I was gonna take it back after the mission. You know how expensive good armor is? Anyway, I got this canine house breastplate in the cave place and I’m gonna wear it till these little ‘errands’ are done. After that I’ll turn it in and the society can return it to the proper house. So let’s go get that vial thingy in your office. What does it look like again?”

![]() |

Apologies. Didn't realise you were waiting for me.
"The monolith had a magical version of Gorum's Eye on it and someone had dug a tunnel to some chambers beneath it. Vreekka worked out that whoever dug the tunnel was using tools and dug it a few weeks back. The first chamber we came to had a wall covered in stacked humanoid bones, some of them were dyed red and arranged in the shape of Gorum's Eye again. There were also some giant centipedes down there who attacked us. The next room contained the well and the morlock. The cover of the well had been removed and there were more morlocks sleeping in the bottom of it. There were also the remains of whatever and whoever the morlocks had been eating, we found that breastplate and some blacksmiths tools with the remains." explains Victor.

GM Shadow Dragon |

Dr. Quolorum looks up at the mention of blacksmith tools.
"May I see the tools and what they were in?"
After inspecting them for a moment he says, "Oh my. One of the people whom I spoke with about their odd dreams and difficulty sleeping was Seb Furnwell - the blacksmith. Perhaps his dreams...influenced? him to go to the Monolith and see what was underneath. I'll break the news to Elder Weath."
Vreekka and Victor share the information from the other glyphs on the Monolith that depict “protection,” “stone,” “grave,” “pit,” and “evil.”
While he's here with you Dr. Quolorum hands you the key to his office to collect the vial of magical herbicide.
Congrats, that's the end of the 'Monolith' chapter! Next up will be the 'University' chapter and I'll try to have that ready sometime today.

![]() |

Cannoli takes the key, "Cool! Another key. I totally remember the last time we got a key and we used it and definitely didn't try to break in first. Alright minions! I mean pathfinders! Let's roll."
HARROOOOOOOOOOWWWWWW: 1d6 ⇒ 2
YES! DEX AGAIN I DON'T HAVE TO CHANGE ANYTHING!!!

"Remember everyone, we're going to a university. Let's make sure we don't disturb any lectures or exams that are going on. The Pathfinder Society already has a reputation as troublemakers, and we don't need to add to it."
What could possibly go wrong?

The GM has been murdered by words.

GM Shadow Dragon |

You arrive in the city of Rozenport, home of the Sincomakti School of Sciences. While traveling through the city you speak to some of the residents to learn more about the city and the Sincomakti School of Sciences. Or perhaps you've previously read about or picked up some information and share it with your traveling companions.
Two separate check attempts are available. The first is either Diplomacy (Gather Information) or Knowledge (local). The second is either Knowledge (Arcana) or Knowledge (History). Feel free to make your rolls!

Can't I just thumb through the deck until I get a card of strength?
But he resigns to drawing blind...
Harrow draw: 1d6 ⇒ 6 ⇒ CHA??!?!?
He frowns at the card. I still don't understand people.
Shrugging and tucking it away, he listens to Quinn remark on their next destination.
It should be easy enough to avoid disturbing their classes, no? Just stay out of their lecture halls? On the other hand I could use some practice with my improved "people skills."

![]() |

Victor also draws another harrow card...
Harrow, is it me you're looking for: 1d6 ⇒ 1 (Strength)
...and sees if he knows anything useful...
Knowledge (local): 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (4) + 5 = 9 (Although I suspect not with that roll)

Cannoli looks shocked, ”Troublemakers? Really? I resemble that remark. But don’t worry, I’ve only been kicked out of two… er… three colleges. I’m sure this visit will go better.”
On the way she tries to get the lay of the land.

On the way to Rozenport Vreekka speaks up: "In the past I read some facts about our destination. I didn't pay much attention to general information on the city, but about the Sincomakti School of Sciences I actually know quite a lot:" (insert information from the GM here) :-P

GM Shadow Dragon |

Cannoli's gregarious nature pays off as several residents become unexpectedly chatty with her. It is still Ustalav after all!
When asking for directions a street meat vendor replies, "The campus of the Sincomakti School of Sciences is hidden amid the town’s labyrinthine avenues. Of course my gourmet kebabs are real beef milady! Only that squinty eyed fool down the street sells rat meat!"
After following the last set of directions the group encounters someone who works at the School. He says, "The grounds of the campus, which are normally immaculate, have become unkempt and particularly weedy in the last few days."

A tour guide, hoping to be hired by the group, tells Vreekka "Rising and falling upon steep sea cliffs, Rozenport’s archaic architecture possesses an almost organic pattern, with sharp steeples, flat-roofed manors, and a bubble-domed town hall."
During Vreekka's studies she came upon a piece of information which might prove valuable. Many of the buildings on campus have powerful magical protections enspelled upon the grounds long ago at the time of the school’s founding.

GM Shadow Dragon |

The group has learned all they can from Check #1; I'll see if Quinn or anyone else can pick up other tidbits with their checks. If not Vreekka definitely hit the DC to get them all.

![]() |

I'm good to keep going. Just because I *could* attempt checks doesn't mean I *will* attempt checks :)

”All beef? Sounds good, I’ll take one. The rat meat sounds good too though, I’ll probably stop there as well. Anyone sell a good ale around here?”
She sticks with the group, munching her lunches.

I suppose I could use a snack...never know when we will get a chance to eat again...one please...i'll be right back..going to grab a mug of coffee...anyone else? Daegon says as he goes to order some brews from another stall.

1 person marked this as a favorite. |

Since Quinn is apparently lazy in addition to old: :P
Vreekka perused a travel guide and read that The Sincomakti School of Sciences was founded over 200 years ago. The professors who founded the school extolled the dual virtues of broad education and guarded ignorance, but rumors constantly swirl regarding the occult, forbidden knowledge often studied here.
The squinty-eyed kebab seller tells Cannoli, "One special coming right up!"
A frazzled-haired barista hands Daegon orders of coffee, "Studying at the Sincomakti School of Sciences eh? We get plenty of their students burning the midnight oil."
Having sampled some of the local fare and refueled with food and caffeine the group finds the School and follows the directions Dr. Quolorum gave to his office. Dr. Quolorum’s office is a single-story, 20-by-20-foot square building made of fitted limestone and covered in ivy vines. The door, for which you have the key, is partially open...

![]() |

"Hold up everyone," Quinn whispers. "Either Dr Quolorum is lapse with security, someone else has a key, or there's been a break-in." Feeling like a mundane crime is more his speed than these supernatural shenanigans, Quinn tiptoes to the open door and peeks through the crack.

![]() |

Cannoli pulls her morningstar and slaps it against her palm threateningly, ”Any of y’all makes a cat burgler joke, ya gonna answer to me.”

Quinn has difficulty seeing inside the room to the low light conditions.
Unfortunately his old eyes are failing him. ;)

![]() |

Guardian comes along with the group as they partake in snacks and caffeine, but those things do little for him.
At the door to Dr. Quolorum's office, Quinn's observation puts him on edge. He takes a rigid, battle ready stance and manifests his shadow blade.
He whispers to Quinn Push it open further...

Quinn nods and slowly, ever-so-slowly, pushes the door open more widely.

Victor gets ready with his weapon and glances around the area outside the door to see if he spots anything useful...

”That's suspicious...”
Vreekka stays in back and draws an acid flask from her bandolier.

GM Shadow Dragon |

All the GMs, check the Discussion tab. I have a non-critical question about how to handle a textual issue.
Victor doesn't notice anything amiss outside the door.
Once Quinn pushes the door open more, Guardian XI steps to the front to peer inside with his technologically enhanced vision. He sees that The contents of the room float aimlessly about as if loosed from the bounds of gravity. A large oak desk spins slowly in the center, and a matching carved oak chair floats near the ceiling. The walls are lined with low bookshelves, but the books and countless other items that once rested there drift gently in midair. Ivy-covered windows to the west and east
provide only dim light.
What would the group like to do next?

![]() |

Cannoli glances inside, ”Weird. Vreeka, you are smart. Any thoughts? Victor, is this maybe a spirit thing? Do you all need light to see? Cause I don’t have that spell. My vision is perfect in all lighting conditions… up to thirty feet.”

Guardian gives the whole situation a curious look.
This arrangement is unknown to me. What forces hold the contents of this room aloft?

Unfortunately Victor can't see the cupboard due to the enormous number of items floating around the room, blocking his view.

"Huh. How interesting. Something - or someone - has magically made the room turn into a zero gravity zone."

Cannoli pulls a rope, ties it around herself and offers the other end to Guardian, ”I’ll go in and try to find the vial. I’m pretty nimble so it should be easy. Just pull me back if I get stuck.”
Once he has a good grip she steps in, paws holding onto the door and then looks for handholds on the walls, floor and ceiling to move around the room. Her sturdy claws dig into plaster and wood where there is nothing to hold.
Hoping she can take climb checks to stay anchored to the walls, ceiling and floor as she searches the room.
”Point out the vial or wherever it may be if you see it, please.”

![]() |

"That would make sense." agrees Victor in relation to Vreekka's observation "This certainly doesn't look like something caused by spirits."
As Cannoli heads into the room Victor provides her with a bit of magical assistance (he casts guidance on Cannoli).

No plaster on the walls, they're stone since the place is prone to um...'accidents' and the only wood would be Dr. Quolorum's bookcases anchored into the stone. Give me an Acrobatics check please.

Cannoli summons the balance and grace of her feline ancestors and jukes, jives, and shimmies across the office to the far side. Now that she's past all of the floating detritus Cannoli easy spots the cupboard. But the door is open and the cupboard is empty!

"Don't bother, it's empty."
