The diamond is just a diamond...
Using the grappling hook would reduce the Athletics check to get across to DC 10...

![]() |

The bridge is currently hanging straight down at your feet. It is not attached to the other side. Sounds like Czav wants to short circuit the whole thing and just use a grappling hook to have a rope that would span the gap that you all could traverse across (DC 10) instead.

![]() |

Elsha smiles when the grappling hook appears.
W-well someone came prepared!

![]() |

It takes Czav 3 tries to manage to catch the post with the grappling hook. After Elsha gets to the other side, he asks: "Elsha, do you think you can quickly fix the bridge if I bring you the hanging part?"
I assume yes ;)
Czav will try to retrieve the remnants of the bridge.
Athletics: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (6) + 10 = 16
Unfortunately, a plank gets stuck between 2 rocks.
Are there failure effects? If not, Czav will try again.
Athletics: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (15) + 10 = 25
Czav decides to pull harder. It breaks the plank and allows him to lift the bridge.
He then grabs the rope while still holding the bridge, trying to get to the other side.
Athletics: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (19) + 10 = 29
He crosses like a monkey, easily bringing the remnants of the bridge to Elsha.
While catching his breath, he says to Elsha: "Here it is, your time to do your magic."

![]() |

Like a monkey, indeed (could have just jumped it with that roll).
Just need the DC 18 Crafting check from Elsha then and then everyone can get across safely.

Assuming you do...
Continuing up the mountain, the path reaches a series of switchbacks, each climbing about ten feet higher, as it curves toward an aerie. As the peak grows near, the sound of harsh wind accompanied by frantic screeching sounds through the stony path up ahead alert you to some sort of conflict or danger.
Go ahead and reposition yourself on the new map in the revealed area if you want. You can draw your your weapons, cast a preparatory spell or ready an item. Change your exploration activity if you wish to. I'll roll initiative later today.

![]() |

Ulfgar waits as patiently and impassively as a boulder as the bridge is repaired.
But his eyes narrow suspicious and he draws his weapons as the sounds of conflict come from the path ahead.

![]() |

When the group rounds the corner to the aerie, you are greeted by the sight of a family of Kayajima griffons fighting off what seem to be large, ethereal weasels made of wind and water vapor. The griffons have the heads, wings, and forelimbs of an osprey and the hindquarters of a snow leopard. As the griffons lash out with claw and beak, the weasels seemed to turn gaseous before solidifying and striking at the griffons with blades of compressed air.
The strange weasels-aloft suddenly turn to face you, while the griffons circle to protect their nesting cave.

I wouldn't change Elsha's exploration activity, and he has quick bomber/no need to draw a weapon, so no loss there.
