Sorry, I missed this move (power failure in all the area for 2 days due to bad weather, I posted during the few seconds my phone got Internet access). I would have moved in flanking position (Marigold was next to the boar if I'm correct), so I think an extra square north west (the boars don't have AoOs so I'm safe).

There are more than enough healers in the group to hand-wave the recovery. Take as much time as needed to heal.
After patching up wounds from the fight with the two boars, you all continue northward toward Kayajima Fortress.
----------------------------------
The forest gives way to an expansive clearing. A gigantic statue stands in front of what appears to have once been an entryway. Up ahead, ruined spires and ancient stone buildings litter the grounds. To the northeast, a mountain rises toward the sky. To the southeast, the terrain slopes downward and a gap in the tree line reveals a view of the sparkling sea. The buzz of distant cicadas fills the air.
A tengu woman stares at the complex muttering to herself while drawing symbols and runes in the dirt of the clearing. She’s tall and elegant, with dark feathers, clad in simple robes and wooden sandals. A smoking fire pit and a run-down wooden structure are nearby.
New picture in handouts
The tengu turns and speaks in a soft voice, “Welcome, Pathfinders. My name is Kukuha. Apologies for not meeting you in Sakakabe, but I deemed it necessary to perform some advance observation of Kayajima to see what I could learn about the rumored ley lines. Fola’s information has proven correct. There are indeed ley lines running through the island here, and quite powerful ones at that, though it seems something is interfering with their function.”
Kukuha looks across the panoramic vista, then continues. “It’s quite beautiful, is it not?” She motions to the northwest, toward the trees. “Makuzen Forest, the verdant bounty of the land.” She turns to the sea glittering in the southeast. “Airishin Cove, resting by the sea.”
Finally, Kukuha gestures to the mountain in the northeast. “And Soruseiji Peak, stretching toward the sky. These are not only places of natural beauty; my research and divinations would appear to indicate that each is a kind of gate for natural power. They appear to be damaged or malfunctioning somehow, though, but I believe by placing special focuses at each, we can repair them.”
She taps the ground with a talon. “And when that’s done, here is where I will carry out a final ritual—uniting land, sea, and sky — thus stabilizing the protective powers of the convergence. This should make it safe to establish our lodge."
“Unfortunately, I have not been able to access these locations. That is where I need your aid. I have prepared several ritual focus items that should aid in restoring each gate. Travel to Makuzen Forest’s heart, Airishin Cove, and Soruseiji Peak, and take a ritual focus to each. I do not know what you will find there, but I trust that your instincts will guide you true.”
Kukuha then shakes her head. “We have to do this the right way. Kayajima is home to many creatures. To simply take the island’s powers and position ourselves as its tyrants — I cannot allow that to happen, and besides, honest negotiation is always a better foundation than force. Pay the island and its inhabitants the utmost respect as you carry out this mission. In this way, I hope the Pathfinder Society will be viewed as a welcomed presence rather than a conquering foe.”
Her pose relaxes. "I hope your travels were simple. Perhaps you have some questions of me?"

![]() |

After the fight, Czav will clean his weapon and armor and put back some new alchemical items in his collar and on his blade.
"Thanks Elsha for your items. The poison didn't worked but I expect such creatures to be rather resistant to it. The mutagen and the collar worked fine, even if the feeling was a bit unsettling. But my blows were burning and that was definitely a nice thing."
He will be useless to help with healing and as such will stand guard while his companions are taking care of themselves. He'll stay rather upset that the boars ignored him, he prefers when enemies strike back.
----------------------------------
Czav stays silent during Kukuha's briefing. He'll just check the distance towards the three locations, wondering if the party can reach all of them in a single day.

![]() |

Ulfgar sees little need to let anything go to waste so, while the healing is going on, he does some light butchering, using his clan dagger to harvest some wild boar bacon and packing it away.
Expectedly, he is as silent as Czav as they receive a more detailed briefing about what is needed.
He simply nods and raises an eyebrow in agreement with Marigold's questions.

![]() |

"Hmm, I only know of the general nature of the tasks before you, but the items are quite simple."
With that Kukuha lays out three disparate items on the ground at her feet, pointing to each as she describes their use.
"You must plant a rainbow cedar sapling in the Makuzen Forest. You must place a fulgurite (fossilized lightning) at Airishin Cove. You must place a sky diamond on Soruseiji Peak."
She nods her head as if to convince herself.
“If my intuition is correct, it should be clear once you reach each gate how to honor it properly with the particular focus. The ancient people of this island, too, harnessed the energies of the ley lines, so perhaps there will be sites where they drew those powers from.”

![]() |

How far are all 3 sites in terms of days of travel? Will we handle the mission in a single day? 3 days? Any other number?

![]() |

The island is not huge, so you can reach all of the three locations (and back to Kukuha) easily within a day. There has been no mention of a time crunch. But your boat ride to/from the island (Masuhei) will be back tonight...

![]() |

"The task looks fairly simple. Bring the focus items to the sites." Tandang tells himself because he can't think of a question to ask. "I think we are ready to go."
Why not start going to the sea? I suppose there is no order required to place the focus items?"

![]() |

Elsha exhales in relief after the second boar goes down. He whispers again, this time less confidently.
G-good work team...
He places a hand over his tusk wound and gets to work on it with his healer's kit.
"Thanks Elsha for your items. The poison didn't worked but I expect such creatures to be rather resistant to it. The mutagen and the collar worked fine, even if the feeling was a bit unsettling. But my blows were burning and that was definitely a nice thing."
Elsha smiles weakly through the pain.
Glad to hear it helped. Another will be ready tomorrow.
--------------------
Elsha listens intently to the Tengu before finally asking Which do you s-suggest we honor first?

![]() |

The tengu nods at Elsha and Tadang. "There is no order, necessarily. The sea cove is as good to start as any."
Bending down, Kukuha picks up the brownish‑green stone shaped like a twisting double helix.
“This olivine fulgurite was created from green beach sand struck by a lightning elemental. It will serve nicely to channel the latent power of the stormy sea.”
Kukuha motions to a path leading to the southwest.
“Follow that path as it turns to rock, and it’ll lead you to Airishin Cove, the location where you must place this focus. I scouted the location yesterday, and it seems a sea dragon has taken up refuge in the cove, right near the Wrathful Tide Gate. From afar, it seemed as though they might be struggling in some way, but I deemed it unwise to approach the dragon regardless. It would be a shame to fight them without parleying first. Perhaps you could earn the Society a mighty ally.”
Who will carry the focus?

![]() |

After handing the fulgurite focus to Czav, she remarks to Marigold "I suppose you can carry them all with you and visit them without returning to me, but I wouldn't mind if you did fill me in on what you find at each location after you place the foci. But the choice is yours."

![]() |

Ulfgar's eyebrows rise at mention of a dragon but he just gives a sigh that seems to start somewhere around his toes and nods as Kukuha provides some final instructions.
He waits only long enough to see Czav pick up the foci before marching down the path the tengu indicated.

![]() |

Let me know if you want to carry them all or not, either way...onto the sea.
The group follows the path blazed by Ulfgar, which slopes downward toward the sea. The terrain grows rocky, and the path shifts from dirt to natural stone steps, winding down a grassy hillside and leading to the cove.
Ocean waves gently lap at the sands of this horseshoe-shaped cove. Rocky outcrops skirt the water’s edges, partially separating the cove’s waters from the larger sea. Near the beach, an azure, serpentine dragon lies on the sand, limbs folded despondently under his body, in front of a rocky peninsula stretching out into the waters.
At the end of the peninsula sits a large dais.
