Cracking her eyes open just the teeniest bit, Salaish spots Caitlin on the ground. "Oh no! Caitlin's down!" She'd love to heal her right now, but with three lizards surrounding her it seems like a wasted effort. Instead, she casts Electric Arc at the white lizard and hopes it'll fry the green one too.

The White-frilled lizard realizes Seoni is moving slower than usual, and flashes its eyes at her. Her eyes are shut so she ignores it. The lizard hisses and approaches.

The Red-frilled lizard also approaches, gets in Salaish's face and tries to bite her.

Scratch critically shoots the lizard. As it tries to recover, Caitlin picks up her spear and runs it through, critically goring the last lizard.

Naturally, the guards arrive just as you slay the final lizard. "Kesstraka!" The finest dressed guard looks at her, then turns to you. "Greetings, I'm Captain Hazar. I heard a violent hissing noise and got here as soon as I could."

These lizards are called basilisks and are infamous for turning people to stone with but a simple glance. They can spend their time specifically locking their gaze, or as a reaction to your movement.

You can always choose to Avert your Gaze (1 action for a +2 bonus to Fort Saves) or close your eyes entirely (the Basilisks cannot be detected by sight, making them Hidden and requiring a DC 11 Flat Check to hit them.)

A recently petrified victim can be turned back by bathing them in recently killed basilisk blood. A basilisk can provide enough blood for 3 medium sized statues.

Scratch whips his gun barrel around at the sound of another reptilian approaching. Luckily his brain clicks in when Captain Hazar speaks. "Geezus man, you almost joined them stoner lizards." He quickly lowers his rifle and slings it over his shoulder.

Taking a closer look at the bloodied lizard corpses Scratch chuckles "See, I was right, stoner lizards, basilisks.. all the same name for the same reptile."

He heads over to the closest one, taking out his dagger to severe its head. He hauls the head over to Seoni and starts splashing the blood on her "Don't worry, I'm from the gov'ment and I'm here to help!" He struggles to get all that out with a straight face.

Afterwards he repeats the process on the fully stoned being, whom he assumes is Kesstraka. "Wakey wakey time for eggs n bakey!"

"I don't think I'll ever get used to that almost dying feeling but thanks for keeping me going everyone." Caitlin stretches her limbs to make sure she hasn't been affected before helping Scratch spread the blood.

"They seemed more interested in biting me than turning me to stone."

Scratch uses the basilisk blood as Seoni and Salaish feel their speed return. He then goes to the diplomat and washes her in its remains. Within a minute, the stony exterior returns to green/yellow scales, and she is able to move again.

Kesstraka's demeanor breaks for just a moment as she spits out some basilisk blood. "Never a dull moment in this job." She looks at her dress. "This will require several days in the laundry."

Kesstraka renews her demeanor. "But I thank you, Captain. I think things are under control here?"

Captain Hazar nods. "Yes, this isn't my first basilisk rodeo. We'll perform a formal investigation, track down where they came from. But the immediate crisis is resolved." He turns to the other guards. "Alright, let's clean this up!" The guards begin to haul basilisk carcasses away. He keeps a careful eye on Scratch and his rifle for a moment before returning to his duty.

Kesstraka pulls up a chair at a large table. "Now that the small talk and entertainment are taken care of..." She motions to the chairs. "Let's get down to business."

“We have those here who range and explore in the wilds and go on grand adventures. I am told it is a business that keeps your mind on the present. But what about your future? Do you ever think about your plans five years from now? Ten?”

Now it's time to begin negotiations. Diplomacy and Intimidation checks are needed. A majority of you will need to pass this check.

You all have the Ally of the Iruxi boon, so you get a bonus on Diplomacy checks.

She pauses to allow the others to introduce themselves. "The Pathfinder Society's motto is 'Explore, Report, Cooperate'. We believe the entire world is richer for working together. That's why we're here to aid Vidrian in seeking a renewal of trade agreements. Everyone in the region will have access to a wider variety of goods and services with the introduction of new countries in the market."

"Now, I don't know the Society's detailed five- and ten-year plans, but I can guarantee that exploring the unknown, sharing what we've learned, and cooperating with our regional partners in ways that are equitably and mutually beneficial will be a significant part of them. As for myself, I want to travel to all the corners of the world and experience as much of it as I can. I'll be composing songs to share what I've experienced as I go along so I can share what these distant lands are like to those who can't travel. Opening people's minds to the variety of the world helps stave off closed-mindedness and stagnation."

Ah ... I'm Luna ... and what Salaish said is ... well ... basically correct. But ... to be honest ... I am a creature of the moment. I've really not thought about the future ... but there is a friend I would like to be with. she says hesitantly.

"What, this?" Kesstraka blinks and Scratch already has the rifle in hand, barrel pointed to the ground. "Its my arquebus, I helped build it back home... runs on gunpowder. Don't they have any kickin' around out here? I've heard the pirates in the Shackles use it... Been doin' it for decades til I got the itch to join the Society and help fix problems. "My Dancer's Spear? It was a gift from one of the elves who raised me in the tribe. They're quite common in Molthune and Nirmathas. They're good for beasts and the undead. You also asked why I'd represent Vidrian. Vidrian is a nation that has cast off the shackles of Chelaxian slavery. I feel a kinship with them. I was born into indentured servitude to a so-called noble family and I want to see them succeed. As for the future, I will continue to work with the Society. It has excellent goals and I've made a lot of friends. I'll continue to hunt the undead as well. Maybe one day I'll have a family but I recently learned I have some elf blood and I'm not aging very quickly." Caitlin looks serious and sounds honest.
