I am thinking about starting a Planescape PbP. Basically, the character's would start out 3rd level, a 32 point buy from IC. Races and Classes are totally open-ended (the whole point of a Planescape setting is being able to experiment.) If you are interested, I think 4-6 players are the max, and I will warn everyone that this game will be more about storytelling than combat. I give EXP for talking and thinking, not just slicing and dicing. The home base will be Sigil, and also the World Serpent Inn. Any interested parties should post here.

Niel:
I am a relative newcomer too (mostly a 2008 poster). PbP is fairly easy. You basically have to commit to posting regularly, preferrably once a day. If you can't due to real life obligations, you should in advance let me know. The pace in the games is slow, but you can have a lot of fun because you can develop the characters in a much broader way that standard "meatspace" gaming. Go to Invisiblecastle.com and look at the 'point buy' method of rolling stats. I am much more of a storyteller than a crunch-mechanics type, so I am looking for people who enjoy roleplaying over munchkining. I am more than happy to welcome you aboard!
PS: Serpico the Kobold has been quietly eating his eggs at the main table. French Wolf, his owner, has been busy with his own PbP fun game which I am runnig a player in ATM. It's mostly been me, Guy, and Kruelaid playing around in the thread for the last month or so. Perhaps we can cajole him to come play with us!

Posting schedule no problem. points buy also fine. What I'll need advice is on the simpler stuff like how to post using an alias and etiquette of posting.
Would you prefer we take our insperation from the World Serpent thread and Miss Kind? Or should we discuss amongst players? Or pick a cool avatar and run with it?
p.s. Pathfinder? or something more settled?

Hi all! Great to see the interest. So I make five interested parties so far.
Here's a few of the questions:
Actually, what would I need to read up ot to be able to play as if I knew anything about it?
Planescape is a venerable old campaign from 2nd Edition. If you want to know more there are several routes. All the original books are on sale as PDFs right here at Paizo ... each one roughly $4.00. If money is an issue there are 2 good websites I use when I am gaming Planescape: Planewalker is the 'official' Planescape site, and carries a lot of 3.5 updated material. The Mimir is an inactive site, but remains online and is chock full of 'flavor' text. Still a great Planescape site even without updates for eight years. Other than those, you really don't need to know much. I can run your character as someone who has inadvertently wandered through a gate to Sigil. Use your ignorance of the campaign as a role-playing plus!
Ok you said race and class was open do you have a list of books we may use or is anything allowed or just anything WOTC made? and what levels
I have pretty much every suppliment WotC put out for 3.5 (and 3.0 and 2 and 1 ..lol) I also picked up a lot of Green Ronin's stuff in the recent selloff. I am thinking 3rd level, just because that's where two of our already made characters (from an aborted PS game) are at. I am flexible, just please try to keep the munchkining down. 32 point stat buy per Invisible castle. Standard (2700 gp) starting cash, no one starting item more than 1/3 (900gp) in price.

We will make an avatar (you can make one at your account) and post our character's stats there. As for posting ettiquette, we will have gaming one thread, metagaming (out of character) posting on a discussion thread. The early poster gets the worm. When fighting, we go in order, otherwise it's post as you can.
I think the World Serpent Inn was a great thread to see how different races and classes mix in a Planescape setting. You should discuss on this thread who wants to play what.
This game is basically going to be an outgrowth of some ideas I had while posting on the WSI thread. Right now I am thinking that Renkar, the mercenary captain from that thread, will be an employer figure, and you will all work for a freelance 'fix-it' company of motley mercenaries. This of course is just rough brainstorming. Once we settle on the list and makeup of the game I will make a discussion thread and a game thread. As for Pathfinder, I am still digesting the new rules, I am open to a democratic vote on it. If we want to use the new set of rules I am willing to give it a whirl, but I want to know you all are interested.
I will post more as I finish up a few bits of information

Ok thanks Patrick . I for one would love to try the pathfinder alpha,so that's one for it.
So if I am understanding this ya want us to make an alias here and stat the pc out on there right.
If we do alpha I want to try a cleric or a wizard.
If we do 3.5 humm not sure an artificer maybe or one of the classes I haven't tried yet.As for race thinking Bariaur,a tiefling,or a Githzerai mostly.Or a druid

seekerofshadowlight |

OK gonna go with tiefling warlock 2nd level[He has A +1 LA}
If we do alpha i'll make him a wizard [they look like great fun] do I link back to th invisible castle or just save the link?STR 10, DEX 15, CON 14, INT 12, WIS 10, CHA 16 like so?

Patrick Curtin |

I'd recommend that we be wary of alignment conflicts and let's try to build a balanced party. However make a character that you think you'll have fun with!
I will second this emotion. I should say that you should all make a non-evil character. Alignment means a lot in Sigil, where the fabric of reality can be influenced by the belief of mortals. I trust everyone can discuss how to make an integrated party.
*sneaks in* I'm definately interested if there's still something space-like left..
You've got the last spot Kayos! Welcome aboard!
I'd love to join you folks buy alas I've just met some... rough fellows... pirates actually... who need a woman's touch - I think they're going to keep me a little busy.
Aww. and I was looking forward to Eir's 'special touch' to the game. But I understand, pirates are a lot for a woman to handle.
Patrick.
On second thoughts, please treat Serpico as a reserve. I got all excited but there are plenty of people interested here who aren't nearly as overloaded with games as me.
Either way I'll lurk in the background and keep an eye on the game.
Good Luck (not that you need it).
Cheers
Serpico/French Wolf, there is still room, and I feel bad for the lil' feller being kicked out of two games before he even played. You have a space if you want it, if you are overextended I understand. And please, wish me luck, I am tightroping this one *GULP*.
OK gonna go with tiefling warlock 2nd level[He has A +1 LA}

I just got my printer working last night, and I finally got the new alpha rules printed (I was having difficulty reading via screen). What I read last night looks good, but I will still see what the party thinks. Most of it seems fairly straightforward. The stat link is fine, just make a character avatar and post a link there as well. If everyone can post their preference on the ruleset, we can make a descision and then move forward from there.
To any lurkers still interested:
I have my six players (5 if Serpico doesn't come aboard), but I am willing to entertain alternates. Post if you want to be such.

Patrick Curtin |

Serpico out? Gah, ok Eir is in if you want her and if you are entertaining the idea of having 6.
Ok Kruelaid/Eir is in if Serpico/French Wolf doesn't want the spot.
Very tentative alternate offer here... just in case. I will be watching with interest anyway. Good luck Patrick - have fun with it.
Ok Rev Rosey... you are officially 1st alternate. I certainly hope to have fun, Lord knows I have been having fun with PbP most of this year :)
Hey Patrick, not putting my hat in (I'm in far too many games), but wanted to wish you luck with your game!
Thanks mate. I am certainly going to need all the luck I can get to pull this off. I will see you over at the Unity of Rings game where it seems we are about to run into a figment of my overactive imagination ... sigh ...

Serpico Fork-tongue III |

Take the slut, Eir. She's all the luck you need.
Another reason is that I am preparing an Alpha playtest at the moment and have just realised that Paizo are going to be moving the goal posts regularly with their 1.1, 1.2, 1.x updates. At least two more releases and I fully intend to come shopping for extra players to fill some of the other classes when they get revamped.
Patrick - you have all the hallmarks of a good DM and some good players are stepping forward. Enjoy!
Cheers

the Greep |

I'd like to use pathfinder, if we could. I'm fine with either.
Character concept (subject to approval and party compatibility):
Theriopodid Proudtalon is from Raerth, a distant planar world. Like many such spheres, Raerth has a distinct theme. Once just a normal world, it happened to be the birthplace of the one now known as The Ancestor. T. A. was a slightly mad (epic class) sorcerer with a fetish for reptiles. Once he was done with his oddball casting, Raerth was populated with reptiliod variants of the various races (rhumans, relves, drarves, grones, rorcs, retc). Theriopodid is a robbit (in game terms identical to a halfling except for appearance). Like many Proudtalons, Theriopodid has itchy feet (talons?). One of his forebearers, from before the Adjustment, was said to hail from another plane. So when Theriopodid was presented with the chance to join a planar caravan leaving Raerth, he jumped at it. Unfortunately, his unfamiliarity with planar booze resulted with him waking up from a three day hot mud bath at the World Serpent Inn. Since his employer had left without him, he has been paying his tab by acting as a maintainence man (robbit?)- cleaning as needed and repairing broken crockery. As his name is difficult to pronounce without a snout, he's known as Greep, after the croaking sound he peppers his speech with.
(All of this was inspired by a couple of avatar pictures. Unfortunately, I haven't figured out how to post with an alias.)
If we use Pathfinder, I'm thinking Rogue 2, Transmuter 1 ; N or NG.
If not PRPG, maybe a ranger (urban variant) or bard. (I admit to being addicted to skills.)
p.s. I think I figured out the alias posting bit. -niel

Thrugnipp |

I'm leaning towards a confused (and lost) half-orc bard if that is compatible with the game. The poor chap is ostracized from society not only because he is a half-orc, but also because he will insist on not being a barbarian (although I have no doubt the barbarian in him can be awakened with suffucient provocation). Friendless, but with a heart of... well, not exactly gold, more like softish bronze, he wanders alone and ends up... where? Alignment CN.

Zigel Za Elric |

Here is mine.Zigel ZA elric tiefling son Zinisha the black a sorceresses and Greval ZA Elric town guard of ribcage.Zigel spent his youth in the gate town of ribcage ,where he often traveled the outlands with his mother on mysterious quests for the gods alone know what.He now makes his way as a part time mercenary if the moneys right and all about wonder. He comes to sigil for no other reason then because he has never been.
Zigel stands 5'11" and 156 pounds. He has a lean face very angler he ears are very elfish and he sports large ram like horns .His eyes are a dark amber ,his hair a rich raven black.Zigel also has a long goatee he often storks when in thought. His arms and legs are formed much like any ofter human while his small long tail is hairless and the same shade as his deeply tanned skin.Zigel likes the finer things in life .He likes to dress in fine cloths of blue, green and purple ,his nails are often manicured and his horns have silver caps on the tips.
