Bugtussle |
"Nice and slick," Bugtussle remarks as he climbs to his feet and retrieves his hat that tumbled off when they all went tumbling down. "You folks didn't make it easy though," he adds as he tips his hat to the students. "Good game!"
Norbwald |
Medicine sounds like our next plan.
GM Tiger |
The two masters lead you back into the Lodge but shoo you out of the sitting room for about an hour. As you make small talk with the students, you hear screams of pain from sitting room. Rushing in, you see both Marcos and Oraelia lying in pools of blood and moaning.
"Students! Please! Help me!" Marcos groans.
"We've got you, Master Farabellus," Dura calls.
The students rush to treat Marcos while you get Oraelia.
You need to get three successes before three failures. A critical counts for two.
Skills include:
Medicine/Nature (w/ Natural Medicine) check to Administer First Aid to a wound
Crafting to create improvised bandages or splints
Perception to Sense Motive to use Orlaelia's movements and responses to determine which wounds are most painful
One PC may cast a non-cantrip healing spell and get one success (or use a potion/elixir or life)
Locus 22 |
This is clearly a drill. They wouldn't have stabbed each other for real. And yet, they're trying to make us think it's real with their play-acting. Why? Why not just make illusory wounds? Or ask us to demonstrate our healing techniques on them without all this drama? Either way, though I fail to understand the purpose of the charade, I will do my best to help.
As a result of her over-thinking the situation, Locus-22 stays at the back of the group as the others rush in. She debates casting healing on everyone in a burst, but decides to simply cast it only on their designated patient, the swordlord, instead.
◆◆ Heal 1d8 + 8 ⇒ (4) + 8 = 12. 1 Success.

Ok, does anyone want to hero point your rolls? Norbwald - sorry, Locus already used the magic option (unless she wants it back and do something else).

"Let me help you, sir!" Tinsley quickly crafts some splinters, drawing her repair kit out of her subterfuge armor. She then applies it on Marcos' arms to keep them steady with some bandages.
Norbwald |
Oops, missed the 1 PC, thanks.

Oops. Sorry -- I misread the DCs. Keep your HP, Norbwald, your check passed.
Norbwald uses his knowledge of herbs and creates a poultice of berries and something you'd rather not know due to the smell. He applies it to Oraelia's leg and she appears to relax (though she wrinkles her nose). Horul begins making bandages but the cloth strips he cuts end up being too short to be of any use. Bugtussle attempts to ascertain which of Oraelia's wounds are most painful but he doesn't quite notice which one is which. Finally Tinsley steps up and helps Horul with the bandages and successfully patch up the Swordlord.
Three Successes! Pathfinders succeed.
I'm out of time. I'll update later.
GM Tiger |
"Well done to both groups! We shall have a little refreshment to recharge ourselves. While we eat, two ritualists will cast a ritual to ensure that any damage done in the sparring room is nonlethal. The ritual takes an hour to cast so you can also use that to refresh yourselves. After all, " she says with a wink, "I would not want Marcos here to complain that I did not give you ample time to rest."
She turns to Marcos, saying, "I know that this lodge is unstaffed, old friend. So I took the liberty of having some food delivered."
Marcos nods jovially before proclaiming, "Enough talk! Let's eat!"
Feel free to RP this part. Also any PC that needs to refocus may do so now.
Norbwald |
Norbwald nods and drinks some of his drank but does not take part in the meal other than to collect a few leftover animal bones.
Horul |
Well, soldiers, 10 minutes to drink and eat. Then we have the next challenge. He discusses then with the Aldoris to know about their technical skills.
Locus 22 |
Locus-22 stands a little apart from the rest of the group but makes sure to at least taste each of the different foods. There's so many new things everywhere she goes, and who knows if she'll ever get back this way again.
I'm relieved that the combat will be non-lethal, she thinks with a glance down at the large locust tattoo on her arm. I cannot tell the swarms to bite nicely, nor the voices to scream softly. I was also quite worried about damaging this form for a friendly competition after only Renewing into it so recently.
She looks around appreciatively at the Pathfinders assembled, especially Norbwald and Tinsley who showed their healing expertise so well in the last challenge. With friends like these, she needn't have worried anyway, she realizes.
GM Tiger |
About an hour after the beginning of the feast, Orlaelia stands and claps her hands once to get everyone's attention. Smiling at the success of the exercises so far, she says, "Now that the food has had a chance to settle, and everyone has had a chance to rest and relax a bit, we should move to your final challenge." She looks to Marcos.
The Master of Blades nods, and he takes over what is obviously a rehearsed speech. "Aldori students, Pathfinders, both of you have demonstrated skill and creativity, but there's no test like a real fight. And so, that's what the last challenge will be."
Orlaelia then again takes the lead. "Of course, a combat where you had to hold back would hardly be a fair assessment, so we've had a special ritual cast over the combat arena. Fight to your hearts content, for none of the damage or injuries suffered therein can be lasting or lethal. Your test will be a fight, one group against the other. Defeat only comes when all on your team are unable or unwilling to continue. Show us what we've taught you!" Her students are surprised, and their nerves show through briefly before they quickly compose themselves. Noticing this, Orlaelia adds "I know you were expecting single combat, but if you only ever fight the same fight, you'll never grow."
You all retire to the sparring room. You all draw your weapons and prepare for battle. Marcos and Oraelia both yell "FIGHT!"

Just before the fight, the hobgoblin drinks a Numbing Tonic minor potion (2 temporary hit points) and he gives one to Tirx. He also gives Giant centipede venom to Tirx, Tinsley and Bugtussle.
Tinsley Tyler The Tamperer |
Tinsley awkwardly receives the venom, not sure what to do with it. She puts it in her pocket. "Thanks for this." she tells the alchemist. She keeps thinking what she can do with that stuff.
Tinsley Tyler The Tamperer |
"Oh," is all Tinsley can say, and pours the venom on her dagger. She can feel that it is more dangerous now, careful not to touch it.
Locus 22 |
Locus-22 lines up along the wall, quickly measures the distance to the opposition, and finds it to be ... suboptimal. She notices how eager the Aldoris are for combat and does not wish to get out to the middle of the field only to get surrounded and pummeled. Meanwhile, the voices begin. At first just a few, then a few more. Like a hive mind all shouting at once. She picks a voice at random and hears the number 1d4 ⇒ 3.
Her eyes lock with Dura's and the voices rush directly from her head into the flashily dressed swordwoman's own.
Amped Daze, Range 120, Will DC 18: 1d10 ⇒ 2
If the target fails its Will save, until the end of its next turn, it gains weakness 1 to mental damage and takes a –1 status penalty to Will saves. On a critical failure, the weakness is 3 (in addition to the target being stunned 1). The weakness applies before daze deals damage. (So, the weakness gets added to this damage if she fails or crit fails.)
Able to concentrate a little better as the voices subside, she quickly casts a shield spell.

Locus-22 cocks her head in surprise when she realizes that one of the "swordsmen" is actually a caster. With all the attention going to Bugtussle, she glides across the floor to the opposite side of the room to get a bit closer to Rhenei.
The voices are still there as they always are, but now she listens for the telltale susurrus of a swarm within the hivemind. There. A colony of carpenter ants within the beams of the old Lodge. She calls them, cajoles them, coaxes them until suddenly they burst up from the floorboards around Rhenei's feet. The ants crawl into their sandals, up their multiple layered skirts, and burrow into the soft fur.

Success You recall an important fact about the creature, learning its highest weakness (or one of its highest weaknesses, if it has multiple with the same value) but not its other weaknesses, resistances, or immunities. You can exploit either the creature's mortal weakness or personal antithesis. Your unarmed and weapon Strikes against the creature also become magical if they weren't already.
Failure Failing to recall a salient weakness about the creature, you instead attempt to exploit a more personal vulnerability. You can exploit only the creature's personal antithesis. Your unarmed and weapon Strikes against the creature also become magical if they weren't already.
Critical Failure You couldn't remember the right object to use and become distracted while you rummage through your esoterica. You become flat-footed until the beginning of your next turn.
when you succeed at your check to Exploit a Vulnerability, compare the result of your Esoteric Lore check to the DC to Recall Knowledge for that creature; if that number would be a success or a critical success, you gain information as if you had succeeded at the Recall Knowledge check.

Tinsley Tyler The Tamperer |
Tinsley tampers the weapon Halran is holding, loosening the strap, or making the blade wiggly or something.
Crafting check vs Halran's Reflex DC to Tamper his Weapon: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (9) + 7 = 16 (If Successful, the enemy takes a –2 circumstance penalty to attack rolls and damage rolls with that weapon until the start of Tinsley's next turn)
