Magus, swashbuckler, skald, barbarian, kineticist.

Three chaotic neutral, with one chaotic good, and one lawful evil.

I sense shenanigans coming.

Just wait until I get metal blast. It's gonna get heavy.

8d6+8+Con heavy, bypassing metal-based DR, at level 7.

8d6 + 8 + 5 + 4 + 1 ⇒ (1, 5, 5, 1, 5, 2, 3, 1) + 8 + 5 + 4 + 1 = 41 (Assuming Deadly Aim and Weapon Attunement)

I haven't played a true blaster in a while.

ok. we still around?

that was a brutal weekend. brake line burst in my truck...and it just sucked after that.

as an aside, i wanted to ask as we get started, does you guys have discord? i use it for all my games, more so to easily pass on discussion posts, such as what happened this weekend. i find it to be real easy to hop onto discord through my phone and post "hey, no post today", or i can ping a player directly to remind them to post before i post.

the above is my way of saying that i will be making a discord server for this game, and if you want to join it say so here and i will DM you the link to the server. or i may just post it here and have it active for 24 hours.

Ok. Sent you a link by DM.

Also, @everyone. Im redoing the prelude to better describe the how things happened. So i should have it up tomorrow

"I will always strive to write better" , 25 years gaming, 20 yrs DM

Let's talk initiative!

I dont do initiative rolls. I have found over the years that when it's time for combat, and people roll, the game slows down to a crawl, as we wait for one person to post before the rest of the party can post.
its a drag.

instead, i say "the initiative order is however it is posted".

For example,
monday, we get into combat. i do my post explaining the scene, the monsters, so on.

That day, Jediah is online 4 minutes after i post. He can post first.
then Bos is on. He can post his combat action. then Black jane and Nokhir jump in. Krogga misses that day.

tuesday, I post the action of the monsters, and then its a new round.
Nokhir is on first and can post. then Krugga hops on and is able to post, so she does. followed by Bos, black jane, and finally Jediah.

That's it. thats the complexity of how i run initiative order. Post actions when you can, I, the DM [i]will always go last in combat[/i[.

when combat is going on, i will try to post roughly around 1200 CST M-F.
after i post, the players will have from that time til 1200 CST to post their character actions.

if a player is unable to post that day, they are not helpless. they are considered to be acting defensivly, and will have a +4 added to their AC, but will not attack that round. No spell casting, no weapon swinging.

Character death:
If a PC hits -10 HPS, they die.
It should also be noted that I am gunning for your deaths. This is a combat game. I do not, nor will i bend nor break the rules to ensure you die, but if the dice say you take 36 points of damage, and you only have 3 HPs left, well, youre dead.
Some of the monsters will be cake walks. one swing and they will be dead. others will be more difficult, and some will be extreme (we have to come back later to kill this!)

How the game will play out?
i am seeing this as sort of a open world concept kind of thing. im still working out the kinks, so to speak. I want you guys to be able to choose who/where youre going.

Excluding Jasper, the BBEG of this game, there are 20 boss fights. 3 will be really easy (no matter your level), 3 will be insanely tough (until you reach 18th level, then they will be on par), and the rest will scale with you, so a +/-1 or +/-2 level comparison.

***critical hits****
on a crit, roll all your damage first. then, multiply based on the crit multiplier.

Two nat 20s in a roll, crit damage and limb hacked off.
Two nat 20s, and the third roll meets the crit criteria, triple crit damage. So a x4 crit multiplier would be a x12 crit multiplier.
three nat 20s, auto death. no saves. no nothing. just dead.

SO, I had marked where I possible would go on slide 3 since that's the one where the map is a background and not a movable image. But it looks like we're sticking with slide 1?

Maybe we should color code all of the enemies and just delete them as they are killed?

That might clear up some confusion.

Sczarni

fwiw, i usually put an X image ontop of enemies that are dead, or rotate their pic upside down. Either way it seems we need to detail how we want to run combat and the map it seems?

"I will always strive to write better" , 25 years gaming, 20 yrs DM

i removed the first slide and stuck with the second, but removed the numbers.

The idea of turning the images over to indicate death, thats actually a better idea than bordering them red. i like that.

I’ve usually used upside down tokens mean dead/unconscious and sideways tokens mean prone.

Very likely going to bring this gent into the new campaign. He'll be de-leveled back to 1, and probably made into a Plumekith (Garuda-kin) aasimar to get that sweet, sweet +2 Dex/+2 Wis. Not sure if I'll keep him as a Sarenite, but there's a strong chance. Likely stat spread will be Str 14, Dex 16+2, Con 14, Int 14, Wis 16+2, Cha 10. Switch-hitter w/ a finesse melee weapon (probably scimitar) and a composite longbow.

Benjamin's stats have been converted. I'll probably keep the background about how it is, even though it references characters from another campaign. Whatever his goals were for returning home clearly did not work--perhaps his new faith was rejected upon being discovered. Whatever the case, a new start seems in order.

Since I have changed Benjamin to be a plumekith aasimar, his background of having a secret father in Qadira actually makes even more lore sense. Per Blood of Angels p. 11:

Blood of Angels wrote:
Qadira: Reclusive and rarely seen by outsiders, the nomadic tribes of the Zho Mountains play host to a surprising number of aasimars, almost all of them tracing their heritage back to the majestic garudas, who stories say once watched over their wandering bands— and may still do so in secret.

Plumekith also have a hatred for nagas and other snakelike creatures, so perhaps he feels that there are some ancient ancestral enemies nearby. Maybe not so far afield as the serpentine linnorms a couple countries over, but you know.

The last thing is that the animal companion may change from a wolf to something else. The Pathfinder Wiki page under fauna makes it abundantly clear that megafauna are in play, so I need to think about that.

Male Plumekith Aasimar Divine Hunter 1 | HP 10/10 | AC 19 Touch 14 Flat 15 CMD 16 | Fort +4 Ref +6 Will +4 | Speed 30 ft | Init +4; Per +8, SM +4 | Active: None || Tayir HP: 14/14 | AC 23 Touch 14 Flat 19 | CMD 17 | Fort + 2, Reflex +7, Will +1 | Speed 20 ft, Fly 80 ft (avg) | Init +4 | Per +5, LLV | Active: None

And yet what better animal companion for a plumekith to take than a giant bird? I have chosen a Roc to accompany Benji. It will never reliably be as gargantuan as its kin of yore, but if the GM will allow it to qualify as a gargantuan steed under the Mammoth Rider prestige class, then it may come close. And around 10th or 11th level, I could take the animal growth spell and a by-then huge Tayir could become gargantuan for a few minutes a day!

Yeeesss, yeeesss...

here is my new character, I'll work on putting up a proper backstory but the basics are he was a town guard at Falcons Hollow and won a giant egg in a dice game. The Egg hatched and he fell in love with the little T-Rex who came out of it. After a year it became apparent that the small logging town was not welcome of a growing giant. Hasperat had also grown sick of the corrupt town leaders and the logging consortium and took the first opportunity he could to get on an expedition north.

As a goliath druid he'll be able to enlarge both himself and his animal companion, Dukat, spontaneously and I'll be building him to be a tanky shape shifter so he' starting with toughness to help out with that.

Ok. Ok.

It looks longer than it actually is. It's just dialogue heavy. And also, it just kinda got away from me a bit.

But, hopefully this will get me a rougarou PC lol

Backstory:

Absalom! The City at the Center of the World. The one place where people from all cultures and all walks of life are welcome!

"Cayden's balls, it is!"

The large Rougarou spat on the ground as the caravan rolled by the large sign that had been placed at the junction. Below the words was a depiction of humanoids of various races standing in a circle, their hands interlocking in a symbol of unity.

Gudhyst, or Gud for short, had passed the same sign less than two years ago when he and his band of mercenaries had come to the Jewel of the Inner Sea. Back then, he had such great hopes for the life that he and the others might earn in the big city.

They were so green.

Aside from Neryld, not one of the six had any experience with a weapon beyond hunting or defending some sheep. But their leader, Neryld, had promised them all fame and riches if they just stuck with him. And for a while things had been going great.

Looking worse for wear after multiple days chasing the bandits through a (mostly) abandoned cave system, the mercenaries trudges through the muddy streets of Copperwood on their way back to Absalom. It was Balure who first noticed the looks, the whispers, and the pointing. But, once Balure pointed it out to the others, it was impossible to ignore.

“They seem angry about something,” Gud muttered.

”No, they’re not angry. They’re scared,” replied Neryld.

”Of what? We killed the bandits that have been hitting their wagons.” Gud puffed out his chest, ”Well, except for this sorry sod.” Gud tugged on a rope and the man tied to the other end stumbled a few steps forward.

Clen, their resident Desnian cleric, prodded Gud with her staff, ”Us, obviously. You overgrown sheepdog.”

Gud grunted and the group hustled back to the little row house they had managed to rent in the Foreign Quarter of Absalom.

A bump in the road brought Gud back to the present.

"Sorry 'bout that, fella," the wagon driver said. "Didn't mean to wake ya from your nap."

"Probably for the best, anyhow," Gud replied. "Looks like the sun is starting to get low. Someone will want to stay up and keep watch once the caravan finds a place to circle up."

The driver chuckled, "I reckon so. Can always count on you adventurin' sort to 'keep watch.'"

That evening, while most of the other caravanners were sleeping under the stars or in the back of covered wagons, Gud found himself lost in the dancing flames of the campfire.

"Get that fire out!” Neryld shouted.

”Lady Luck help us,” Clen said.

”To hell, with Lady Luck!” Balure retorted. “Where’re the bloody guards?!”

”Not here, apparently! So get your asses in gear and get ready for a fight,” Gud snarled.

Neryld placed a hand on Gud’s shoulder. ”We’re not fighting. Not yet, at least. We don’t even know why they’re attacking us.”

Balure looped a leg around his bow, “They pissed ‘cause,” he began while pulling the string up to the nock, ”’cause we took down their mates. Them bandits a few days ago.”

”These people don’t look like bandits though,” Clen said. She tossed a bucket of water at the fire and dared a look out of the window. ”Actually, I think I recognize some of them from-”

”From Copperwood,” Neryld finished.

Gud rolled a shoulder to loosen the muscles. ”Whaddya think they’re here for then, Boss?” Gud rolled the other shoulder and hefted his large club.

As if they could hear his question, someone began shouting outside and other voices quickly joined in.

”Send out the wolf!”

”Give us the beast!”

”It’s the wolf or all of you!”

The mercenaries stilled and Gud could feel their eyes on him. ”What in blazes did I do?”

”Hey, big guy!” A young man, an elf - or half, at least, by the smell- was holding a bowl of a thick stew out to Gud. ”I noticed you didn’t eat anything earlier.”

Gud grunted.

”No way you maintain that amount of mass by missing meals,” the elf continued and shoved the bowl into Gud’s hand. ”So, eat your damn dinner and tell me what's bothering you."

Gud glared at the elf before breaking into a deep laugh. "Fair enough! My belly has been trying to get my attention for a while now. Name’s Gudhyst."

”Dondildlian,” the elf replied. ”Now, why don’t you share whatever has you so focused?”

”What the hell do you mean ‘go out there?’” Gud shouted.

Neryld held his hands out, palms upward in a supplicating manor, ”I think they just want to have a conversation. We need to find out what’s going on.”

Gud pointed to the scorched floorboards where the fire had been, ”They started this ‘conversation’ by torching or home!”

”They let their emotions get the better of them,” Neryld said.

Clen stepped forward and put her hand on Gud’s arm, ”We’ll all go together. I’m sure it’s just a misunderstanding. We can make this right.”

”No. Just Gud and I. If we all go, it might look like we’re looking for a fight,” Neryld corrected Clen.

”He’s right, Clen,” Balure chimed in. ”I don’t like it but he's right.”

Gud tightened his grip on the greatclub causing his forearm to tense. ”I don’t like it. But I trust your judgment, Boss.” And with that, Gud set the club down, leaning in in the corner next to a table. ”Let’s see what’s got the good folks in such a tizzy.”

The front door to the row house cracked open.

”We’re coming out,” called Neryld. ”And we’re unarmed.”

”That wolf better be with you!” Was the response.

The duo stepped into the street. Even without the handful of torches, the moon would have lit up the night well enough to see the two dozen faces waiting to dole out justice. Gud could feel the hatred and fear boiling off of the mob.

”That’s the monster!” a woman shouted from the back.

”Neryld ain’t pretty to look at but, I wouldn’t call him a monster,” Gud said, trying to cool some tempers.

Neryld glanced at Gud and spoke under his breath, ”Don’t.” Then he took a single step forward and addressed the pitchforks and torches. ”What seems to-”

”No way did they actually bring pitchforks and torches!” Dondildlian interrupted with a guffaw. ”I didn’t think people really did that!”

”They did,” Gud said. ”You know what? You asked me to share. And you have interrupted me five times in just as many minutes. So, here’s the short version:

The day after we passed through Copperwood, on our way out of town, a wolf attacked two boys who were playing near the treeline. One of the boys claimed that he saw it stand on its hindlegs and that it spoke to him, threatened him. And the other boy…well, I hope Pharasma takes pity on him. Naturally, they assumed I was responsible and no amount of arguing was going to change their minds. It wasn't until the guards finally showed up with proof that what attacked the boys was a madman wearing a wolf’s hide that they finally backed off.”

”But they still blamed you,” Dondildlian said softly.

Gud nodded, ”Not outwardly, no. But it was plain that they felt robbed of their justice.”

The elf took a sip from a flask before passing it to Gud, ”And so you decided to leave Absalom.”

”And so I decided to leave Absalom,” Gud agreed.

”I don’t think that would’ve been enough to run me out of town,” Dondildlian said.

”Well, it was for me,” Gud tipped the flask to find only a few drops. He looked at Dondildlian, ”A*%+#+@.”

When their laughter died down, the new friends let the quiet settle back over the campsite and, eventually, they were relieved of their watch to get some rest of their own.

As Gud settled into his bedroll he found himself thinking back to that fateful night in the streets of Absalom. Back to the gut-wrenching betrayal he felt when Neryld spoke.

”So, take him.”

So calm. So conversational.

Gud could not believe what he had just heard. In that moment he wanted to be the monster those people believed him to be and rip Neryld limb from limb. But he could not. He could only do one thing.

”Why?” Gud nearly choked on the word.

Neryld rolled his eyes. ”Gudhyst, you are my dearest friend but, we have come too far to lose everything now,” he put a hand that was meant to reassuring on the rougarou’s shoulder. ”Would you not gladly give your life in a fight to protect Clen, Balure, or myself?”

Gud shrugged causing Neryld’s arm to fall from Gud’s shoulder, ”This…this isn't a fight. You’re just offering me as a lamb to the slaughter.” took a step back from the man who he had once thought of as a brother.

”We got ‘im!” A man shouted as several hands began clawing at Gud, pulling him into the middle of the mob. Boots and fists drove Gud to the cobblestones. He heard Neryld scream for the mob to stop but, between legs he could see the smirk on Neryld’s face that vanished as Clen ran up beside him.

Even when the guards pulled the crowd off of Gud he knew that he would be leaving Absalom as soon as possible.

And Gud (good?) boi makes four!

So we've got a human with the smol king of the dinosaurs as a pet, a stormy half-elf with designs at being a samurai and a witch, a wolf-person with some well-deserved trust issues, and a bird-person ex-soldier with a giant eagle.

We might have lost Jediah in the interim, but this seems like a fun group!

Sovereign Court

M Half-Elf

I'm glad my thinly veiled joke made it through lol

Tachibana Dosetsu should be ready.

He's got his blood so mixed that he's been looked down by most of his peers, which ended up in him leaving Jinin in search of fortune, selling his skills for coin and fame.

Ok. Ok.

It looks longer than it actually is. It's just dialogue heavy. And also, it just kinda got away from me a bit.

But, hopefully this will get me a rougarou PC lol

** spoiler omitted **...

welll... aside from needing a better way to transition from flashback to present, i liked it.
