"A long time ago, on the World of Faerun . . ." Welcome to the Casting of the T.V. Show: "A Realms Odyssey." Set in the Dale lands, specifically Shadowdale; this show chronicles the adventures of five characters through the Realms. The PCs!

Formula: five friends leave the Dalelands to go in search of adventure in other parts of the Realms.
the Twist: War is rumored to happen. This sparks adventure for a group of five unlikely PCs.
Theme: With rumors of war, can the PCs avoid fighting in a war?

PRODUCTION DESIGN
One should have a copy of the Forgotten Realms Campaign Set, 1e. You should also have Pathfinder 1e. Also watch Hercules: the Legendary Journeys (just your favorite shows). I'm taking inspiration from that show along with (surprise, surprise) Lord of the Rings by J.R.R. Tolkien. The Dalelands is the start.

Character Creation
You may use the Advanced Race Guide (ARG) for selecting a race. Any race is allowed even Dragonborn. Just be aware that if you do choose to play a drow, I don't want a Drizzt knockoff. I expect you to be more creative in drafting your PC. Also, you may choose just about any class. Just no ninja or samurai (they are found in the Far East).
Ability Scores
Since your starting as a farm boy or close to it, resolve your abilities in this way: 20 points buy, 2 traits. Talk to me about playing a minor, though.

Character Portraits: You may scour the web for a good portrait. Sometimes the best portraits weren't made by paizo. Be creative and selective.

Gods: The Powers of the Realms are varied. You may select a patron from the Campaign Set. Remember, the people are polytheistic. They may pray to different gods under different circumstances. Clerics who choose a patron can check Faiths and Pantheons and the FRCS (3rd edition) for domains. Or we can work out a set of domains (and subdomains) for the power you want to represent.

Alignment: Try not to play evil (unless you can show that you can cooperate with the party!) I want to play all the evil guys.

Just have fun crafting your characters. Oh, and character creation will end on the 20th of January, 11:15 pm MST.

Are you still recruiting for this?

I'm trying to recruit, Yolen. But people are more interested in the other realms game now.

Yeah but the GM is taking like 6 characters out of…seven hundred elves. I would bump this when the pick is made…

As one of the players applying over there, I can confirm interest in another FR game. If I’m selected there I would still apply here too!

In my case, I hadn’t seen this game advertisement either. Will try and think up something in the next couple of days.

Interest!

Grand Lodge

didn't see this until yesterday..applying here too...have a concept in mind...

I bet that's an exaggeration. :)

Seven hundred elves, wow!

Grand Lodge

not quite that many elves...but an abundance to be sure...including my character...will have a character later today possibly...1st lvl are easy to make

The Forgotten Realms Campaign Setting, 1e has been discounted by 25% on drivethru, so it's a great time to get your copy.

Grand Lodge

are you using background skills? assuming no if you didn't mention it...

Yes, we can use Background skills.

Wait, I did see a…half-elf. And a tiefling with an elfy avatar. Also a reference to the song by Steeleye Span.

Ok, well, I'm making an Elven Crossbowman fighter. Forgotten Realms is not my strongest suit, but I am interested in joining and learning as I go.

Ah, good. You create the character you want to play.

Grand Lodge

What's starting gold?

Since you are all level 1, maximum starting gold.

bump.

Grabbed the FR 1E pdf. Sounds like I have a lot of reading ahead of me!

This post is mostly for the dot to help me find this again. I’m coming back from a long hiatus from the forums, so I’m hoping to find enough time to do the homework and get you a worthy concept before the deadline.

Gotcha. It's a good Campaign Setting.

Is there any hilly or mountainous region it would be reasonable for an elf to have grown up in?

Scarab Sages

Ok well, I'm not sure where to begin when it comes to a background.

Lesnesmon is a rather bland fighter, personality wise, who specializes in the heavy crossbow. Reckless his entire life, his moves are surprisingly sure and silent.

A highlander in his youth, Les is a deist, praying to the most appropriate god for the situation.

Hopefully this link will work, it is my character sheet PDF from Herolab. There's supposed to be a picture too...

There is Evereska. That's still a community of elves. :)

I didn't see a picture. Just the Hero Lab and Pathfinder logos.

I am considering a Purple Dragon Knight. What do you think?

Camris wrote:

Sounds good to me. I'm thinking of extending the deadline, so I can get some people to join. :)

No doubt he will need some tweaking, but here is Dain Bramage, ready to smack evil across the face with his spiked book!

Only just seen this but definitely potentially interested. I'd love to play in the Realms and you wait ages for a game to show up and then two come along at once! For the sake of transparency, I do have a character being considered for the other FR game and if successful I don't have the capacity for two new games so wouldn't want to deprive someone else of a spot. I also need to come up with a new concept as I put a lot into the other submission and feel like I need some new inspiration. I'm also realistically not going be able to have something together before the deadline, though I see you're considering extending it.

I do have a couple of questions about the game itself. Can I check which year the campaign starts please? Am I right in thinking the 1E FRCS is pre-Time of Troubles? Also, what sort of a game do you envisage it being (dungeon crawl, courtly intrigue, city, wilderness, bit of everything, etc.)? Or does that potentially depend on the party make up and what the PCs are into?

Well, because of unforeseen events, especially with the other game, I'm extending the deadline for recruitment from this Friday until February 11th. :)

That way, we can get more people to join.

Casting so far:
* Dain Bramage -- Dwarf Inquisitor of Moradin. Played by Andrea1.

Yes, it's pre-time of troubles. Back when Forgotten Realms was cool. 1358 DR, the ear of Shadows.

For the type of game: You're going around the Realms (to the east, north, west, and south); and expecting adventure that way. There will be a little bit of everything. How much depends on the PCs.

Oh, that extension is wonderful! My schedule has really ramped up lately, and I haven't been able to give the material my full attention. I don't like to make submissions half-baked when I can help it, so this should give me the time.

I hope it gives everyone time. :) The GM of the other FR game is currently trying to select his players. I'm hoping more will come to me to be a part of this game in the future.

Potential casting so far:
* Dain Bramage -- Dwarf Inquisitor of Moradin. Played by Andrea1.
* Lesnesmon -- Elf Fighter played by DavidC.

Here is Sir Roland, Purple Dragon Initiate.

Crunch only for now.

Neat. so far 3 characters.

Scarab Sages

I have a 4th player. He has never played on the Paizo forums before, so I'll do my best to help him with the mechanics.

Last time we talked he was thinking gnome life oracle. Would that be ok?

Yes, that would be okay.

Hello, I am the person GM DavidC was speaking of, and we did discuss a life oracle or some sort of divine healer, since he explained that the team is lacking in that department and I would enjoy playing healer. Please let me know what you need from me to join the campaign. Other than a character, that is.

Thank you for your attention to this matter.

Cheers,

I would also join! ;-)

I will decide in the next days what to play.

Thanks!!

Just your character, with a brief background. Thank you. :)

Don't forget to figure your Ability points with 20 points.

Scarab Sages

Lesnesmon's picture

Let me know if that works.

I am sorry but I cannot come up with a good character at the moment so I will not join. Have fun!!

Scarab Sages

Are there ratfolk in this realm? Would a ratfolk PC be legal?

GM DavidC wrote:

A ratfolk PC can be legal, yes.

Alright here is the basics of my character without equipment, but I will get to that when I can.

Included is a quick background for approval as well.

I like it, but there are some things that aren't right.

I threw it up on a little android character builder, so it may not be smart enough to get the calculations right.

or is it my background that is not right?

No, it's the mechanics. The highest stat point you start with is 18 for a first level character. Your 19 in charisma is too much.

Ah, it is a 17, and then I used the free +2 to increase it to 19. I will review it to make sure the points are correct and put it into a more robust character checker to reduce my errors.

I think it's just the racial adjustment.

OK, I'm calling my character good enough for now.
