Please share:
1) Player Name
2) Character Name
3) Ancestry and Class
4) Perception Bonus
5) Any additional Initiative bonus, or other passive modifiers to how things work (Dubious Knowledge?)
6) Preferred Exploration Activity
7) Anything I forgot to ask?
In the event that a player is expected for more than 24 hours in combat or another situation where we're waiting on that person, I may bot you. I will not use any consumable resources unless asked. If you'd like to share some bot instructions, great!
There's not much on the slides at the moment. I'll add pictures as they come up. I'll add a tactical map if (it is a Pathfinder adventure; will anyone be shocked and spoiled if I say "when"?) it becomes relevant.
There is a space for player tokens. Add your own if you like! If you'd rather share some character art and let me do it, I can do that! If you do neither I'll use your avatar.
Feel free to arrange in a marching order. Let's say the group is traveling towards the south, for no particular reason.
"Pennypockets" Nicnax |

2) Character Name - "Pennypockets" Nicnax
3) Ancestry and Class - Goblin Bard
4) Perception Bonus: +5
5) Any additional Initiative bonus, or other passive modifiers to how things work (Dubious Knowledge?) - Nope
6) Preferred Exploration Activity - Search (Someone may have dropped a copper piece!)
7) Anything I forgot to ask?: "Before you ask the price, we'll even throw in this coffee mug made by Halfling artisans absolutely free!"
Banterknell or BK |
1) Player Name: miteke
2) Character Name: Banterknell (or BK)
3) Ancestry and Class: Gnome Bard
4) Perception Bonus: +5, low-light vision[ancestry], imprecise scent[sensate gnome]

6) Preferred Exploration Activity: Investigate
7) Anything I forgot to ask? Nope
Mimi de Valence |
1) Player Name: Palandri
2) Character Name: Mimi de Valence
3) Ancestry and Class: Human Swashbuckler
4) Perception Bonus: +7 (with normal human eyesight)
5) Any additional Initiative bonus: Mimi has Incredible Initiative, which when combined with her Stealth +9 (for Avoid Notice) usually gives her an Initiative check of +11.
6) Preferred Exploration Activity: Avoid Notice with rapier in hand.
7) Anything I forgot to ask?
Mimi speaks Taldane (ie. Common) with a strong Galtan accent and throws in the occasional (common) Galtan (ie. French) exclamation as required (eg. "En Garde!"). Just imagine Poirot or Inspector Clouseau reading the lines in a faux French accent and you'll get the idea. If this becomes too annoying, please let me know and I'll tone it down or eliminate it altogether.
Looks like we've got a party full of squishies with only Mimi standing in the way of almost certain disaster (just kidding :). I added her token to the slides and fully expect her to be at the head of the marching order.

4) Perception Bonus: +8 (with darkvision)
5) Any additional Initiative bonus: None
6) Preferred Exploration Activity: Scout
7) Anything I forgot to ask? Sorry, for the delay, but I'll have the character sheet/status bar updated in a day or so.
GM Super Zero |
Ah yes. Level and Glyphs. That's what I forgot, since I've only GMed Bounties so far.
Also my first time calculating Challenge Points... although RPG Chronicle does that for me apparently, so nevermind.
Looks like this is a high-tier game, so Banterknell and Pennypockets get a level bump:
* Increase every DC the PC has by 1.
* Increase the attack modifiers, attack damage, spell damage, saving throw modifiers, skill modifiers, Perception modifiers, and AC of the PC by 1.
* Increase the Hit Point totals of the PC by 10 or by 10%, whichever is higher.
And any Mentor Boons for our Bards?
Feel free to check out the information on the slides and add a token, distribute Hero Points for Glyphs, and introduce your characters in the Gameplay thread.
Shifty |
Oh yes I also have:
Campaign Service Coin: Volunteers who make exceptional contributions to Organized Play can earn campaign coins or membership in the Order of the Wayfinder as a recognition of their hard work. When you use this benefit, you gain a bonus Hero Point at the beginning of the adventure. In addition to the normal powers of a Hero Point, you can spend this special Hero Point to allow another player to reroll a check.
I'm super new to PF2 so still getting up to speed with this stuff.
Banterknell or BK |
I don't even know what a mentor boon is, so this bard at lease has none.
Quadennillia |
A mentor boon allows you to grant bonuses to a character getting a level bump. I have another character with one.
GM Super Zero |
It's not something the lower-level character has, it's something the higher-level characters do that the lower-level ones benefit from.
PFS games have to deal with more of a level range compared to a typical home game. One of the ways it does that is with adventures written for a broader level range (1-4) that then gets narrowed to a particular tier (1-2 or 3-4) once the party is established.
If a higher-level character in a mostly lower-level party ends up in the lower tier, fine. They get to be a little more powerful for a bit. A lower-level one in the higher tier might have some trouble, though, so you get the level bump (which isn't as good as actually leveling up but provides most of the numerical benefits) and Mentor benefits. These represent the more powerful characters recognizing a less experienced agent in their team and providing advice, guidance, and protection.
Any character liked by a Faction (20 reputation with them) can get a Mentor Boon, and they're free since they're encouraged. Which means or level 2 probably doesn't qualify, but the level 3s very likely do. If all the of them have different ones, you can only benefit from two and have to choose.
Quadennillia |
Forgot how cheap these were. Qen now has Rugged Mentor, which gives an additional +1 to saves for anyone getting a level bump.
Mimi de Valence |
Since Mimi is Liked by the Horizon Hunters, I just acquired a Rugged Mentor boon for her. It gives any PCs benefiting from a Level Bump an increase the in Level Bump’s modifier to saving throws by 2 instead of 1 (a PC can only benefit from two mentor boons though).
[Ninja'd] Never mind... I see Quadennillia beat me to it.
GM Super Zero |
Do I sound like I know what I'm talking about? I have the game down pretty well, but I'm still pretty new to PFS.
My character in Hmm's game is benefiting from a level bump, and she was pushing the Mentor Boons. On that note, I have shamelessly stolen politely borrowed without asking some images from her slides and added them to the ones for this game, showing how to get them. For anyone who was qualified but didn't realize it.
Mimi de Valence |
Just a heads up. I'll be travelling from the US to Europe starting tomorrow morning PST. I won't be totally out of touch, but my connections are pretty tight, so I may not be able to post. Assuming the airlines don't screw me over, I should be back online by noon Sunday PST. Bot me if I'm holding things up. My profile has all the information you should need.
Dennis the Menace |
Updated info from my earlier post. This is a GM-blob /AP-chronicle character, so I've been frantically putting him together in time for this PbP game. Character sheet and status bar all ready to go!
1) Player Name: Professor Plum
2) Character Name: Dennis the Menace
3) Ancestry and Class: Young Human Fighter
4) Perception Bonus: +8 (with normal vision)
5) Any additional Initiative bonus: None
6) Preferred Exploration Activity: Scout
7) Anything I forgot to ask? n/a
Regarding mentor boons, I envisioned this character as Horizon Hunters (which unfortunately wouldn't provide any new mentor boons that haven't already been offered). Having said that, since I haven't played him, I believe I'm allowed to claim any faction for his previous chronicles, specifically, Envoy's Alliance. I'm happy to do that since it will help others in this scenario. If so, he can offer the Skillful Mentor which gives the lower-tier characters an extra bump to all Skill checks. With the GM's permission, lower-tier characters may claim this boon if they wish.

Don't forget to introduce yourself, Banterknell.
Qen excuses herself to mix up some useful concoctions before heading out. We're not expecting every enemy to be immune to poison and mind-affecting this time, are we? She was extremely frustrated/unhelpful last mission...
Poison immunity is relatively common, isn't it? But you certainly have no reason to expect everything to be, no.

It's just that her last scenario was 100% creatures immune to both poison and mind-affecting, so her sum total of effect on all combats was giving a couple people +5 speed.
Banterknell or BK |
I could have sworn I dotted and deleted in gameplay, but nothing showed up. Meh.
Quadennillia |
Dennis, is being young just fluff, or do you have something that makes you mechanically different?

Total fluff. Just wanted to do something different. Thought a wide-eyed young kid trying to haul around a halberd and longbow would be amusing.

In about 12 hours I will be starting a road trip that will take me from Valencia, Spain, to Florence, Italy. I will be on the road Friday, Saturday and Sunday and will only be able to post in the evenings once I get to my hotels (so around midday in the US). Just wanted to let you know that I may not be posting as often or as voluminously this weekend.
Mimi de Valence |
The room across the hall is of a similar style to Ganthur's makeshift cell. It lacks a bed, but two hammocks are strung here. Officer quarters? A quick search finds no portable valuables.
Not sure why the room across the hall is still covered with a red circle around it, but we've already taken care of it.
Sounds lovely Mimi!
The trip itself is a pain. I've done it so often that the car practically drives itself there. Once I get into my apartment in Florence, then yes... lovely it will be.
Dennis the Menace |
That's two for below decks, and two for forecastle first. Next vote decides that, then--assuming you don't want to split up, of course. =D
Actually, isn't it 3 votes to clear out the forecastle deck first (Mimi, Sunshine, and Dennis)? But maybe I'm reading them wrong...
Mimi de Valence |
Checking in, but doesn't look like I need to post anything just yet. Another long day of driving ahead of me tomorrow.
Dennis the Menace |
GM Super Zero: On the off-chance it comes up ... would Dennis be allowed to use his Attack of Opportunity before his turn comes up in initiative?
My understanding is that many GMs allow it, depending on the situation (aware of bad guys, not involving hidden/concealed, etc). But there's not necessarily a hard and fast rule on it.
Banterknell or BK |
BK gets +1 on that damage roll from Pennypockets' inspiration, yes?
Isn't that only for attacks that require a to hit roll like in 1e?
Mimi de Valence |
Mimi runs circles around the pirate as he swings his own blade at her. It's a wild swing, but catches her painfully as she moves... he gets an Attack of Opportunity. Hit for 8 slashing damage. Since he's flat-footed, that first attack is a hit. And the second is a crit, of course. He's down.
Oh, right. I forgot about the flat-footed; I was only thinking about panache.
Is this GM's revenge for Dennis asking for his AoO before the start of his first turn? Mimi will definitely have a little talk with the little man once this fight is over :-)
Dennis the Menace wrote:BK gets +1 on that damage roll from Pennypockets' inspiration, yes?Isn't that only for attacks that require a to hit roll like in 1e?
The text for Inspire Courage states that You and all allies in the area gain a +1 status bonus to attack rolls, damage rolls, and saves against fear effects.
So any damage roll, regardless of how it was inflicted, gets a +1.
GM Super Zero |
Hey, I caught the flat-footed part. That did actually make a difference here.
I hope I didn't throw you off by using a different token for some of them. Just changing it up. The unnamed pirates are the same as before. They're Fighter-types and you've seen them use AoO (and also Bravery). Although I suppose you wouldn't really know they have the same statblock anyway.
They are unique individuals, each with their own hopes and dreams. All of which involves capturing innocent people and forcing them to work.
The captain also had AoO. It never came up, but he didn't have Bravery.
Vagas has not demonstrated either ability, but also hasn't had the chance.
Mimi de Valence |
On a related note, the good thing about having two bards is you know you'll always be getting IC!
Bugger! In addition to missing the flat-footed, I also missed Pennypockets' casting of Inspire Courage. I guess I'm a little tired after driving all day.
The GM should feel free to +1 both of Mimi's attack and damage rolls. If the pirate wasn't dead before, he sure is now :-)
Dennis the Menace |
Once all PCs have had an opportunity to earn a Division Point, are we allowed to try again on a different subject? Or is it more like: everyone gets a single try?
GM Super Zero |
Everyone gets one check to represent their overall efforts, and then we can resolve whether someone can make the swap without being noticed.
Should I have just given all the suggestions at once? There's actually only one more, so at least one person will have to either double up on one of the more open-ended ones or come up with their own idea.
But don't worry, success doesn't require a perfect score.
This one is certainly going quicker. I suppose that happens when one uses a dungeon map and one is presented as a particular structured challenge with one "round." The market is probably... Hmm, some people sure do care about spoilers...
Dennis the Menace |
Excellent. Makes sense. How you handled it is fine. Just wanted to see if we can make more checks provided everyone got a chance the first time around.
If given another chance, Dennis is prepared to spread some rumors and mischief among the guests. Dennis the Menace would love to generate some mischief and mayhem. It's what he lives for!
Banterknell or BK |
Should I go ahead and post more mischief for BK, or do I need to wait for anything?
Mimi de Valence |
However, they're only five feet off the ground at the moment. I left that out.
Ah, that does make a difference to what Mimi would have done then.
If the bird was within reach of the ground, then instead of the Bon Mot vs Green, she would probably have run up the stairs with a Stride followed by a Tumble Behind (assuming going up the stairs is difficult terrain) and then attacked Yellow directly. Since the Tumble Behind would probably have failed, she'd have ended up at the top of the stairs without panache, and the strike as posted would be the same.
We can leave it the way it is if that's easier. Either way I'm pretty sure the readied action will take place and the strike will happen.
More questions: (1) Can we assume that the hawks are always going to be 5 feet above whatever surface they're hovering over? (2) How much higher is each level of this building above the one below it (in case we want to jump up or down rather than use the stairs)? (3) I presume that going up the stairs is considered difficult terrain as usual, but what about going down the stairs... regular terrain?
Mimi de Valence |
Five feet up, so within reach but still too high to tumble through.
Does that mean that we can freely move through (under?) those squares (cubes?) containing hawks without penalty?
2. 5 feet per square of stairs. That's a little steep, but the game works in 5-foot increments so easier to count.
So three squares of steps means that the second level up is 15 feet above the lowest level, and the highest level is about 10 feet above the second one.
Either way, jumping up is essentially impossible, and jumping down will cause damage and make you land prone, unless...
... you have the Cat Fall feat like Mimi does, which means (as an Expert in Acrobatics) that she can fall up to 30 feet without incurring damage or ending up prone. How many squares of movement would dropping 15 feet from one level to the next cost her?
Mimi de Valence |
The Green Hawk flies to a higher position, provoking an AoO from Dennis. It then uses its circling attack, going after the last person to hit it (so Mimi unless Dennis hits it with an AoO). It hits whichever one it targets twice (with two 22s) for a total of 17 slashing damage. And this time ends its turn 10 feet up.
Reminds me a little of Schrödinger's cat. Mimi and Dennis are in a superposition state in which one or the other (or both a little) are damaged, but not until Dennis interacts with the hawk and collapses the wave function will we find out who it is.
My recommendation is that Dennis hit hard with his AoO and we split off a new universe in which the hawk dies and doesn't get to do the damage in the first place.
