I'm confused about which icon is which. Could you make the enemy icons circular?

![]() |

I think I got if figured out. To her west is the zombie clerk and the Vargouille. to the north is MetalWhiz, Patrols, the earth elementals, and the Xill. The circular icon is Rogjameda. and the Pair to the northwest are Airon and the Darkfire summoner. Alain and his mount are off screen running from panic.
That being the case she will try to down the Vargouille if the Xill goes down, if for no other reason than she does not want it to do that yelling thing again. And if that goes down, then she will aim for a square between the elementals (with no PC in it) and just do splash damage.

GM 7thGate |

Yup, you got it! I think I might have forgotten to take the Vargouille off the map this morning, need to double check but it might have gotten killed. I was a bit rushed at the end of getting it together before the Thanksgiving festivities :).
Off to resolve the bombs now.

Some things to keep in mind regarding pit spells:
Spiked Pit:
This spell functions as create pit, except that the pit is lined with wickedly sharp spikes along its bottom and walls and has a maximum depth of 50 feet. Creatures who fall into the pit take falling damage as normal, plus 2d6 points of piercing damage from the spikes. Any creature or object coming into contact with the spikes along the walls, such as a creature trying to climb out, or rope or other typical aids to climbing, takes 1d6 points of piercing damage each round they are in contact with the walls. For those willing to accept the damage incurred while climbing, the pit’s walls have a Climb DC of 20.
In addition, the edges of the pit are sloped, and any creature ending its turn on a square adjacent to the pit must make a Reflex saving throw with a +2 bonus to avoid falling into it. Creatures subjected to an effect intended to push them into the pit (such as bull rush) do not get a saving throw to avoid falling in if they are affected by the pushing effect.
Climbing:
With a successful Climb check, you can advance up, down, or across a slope, wall, or other steep incline (or even across a ceiling, provided it has handholds) at one-quarter your normal speed. A slope is considered to be any incline at an angle measuring less than 60 degrees; a wall is any incline at an angle measuring 60 degrees or more. A Climb check that fails by 4 or less means that you make no progress, and one that fails by 5 or more means that you fall from whatever height you have already attained. The DC of the check depends on the conditions of the climb. Compare the task with those on the following table to determine an appropriate DC.
You need both hands free to climb, but you may cling to a wall with one hand while you cast a spell or take some other action that requires only one hand. While climbing, you can’t move to avoid a blow, so you lose your Dexterity bonus to AC (if any). You also can’t use a shield while climbing. Anytime you take damage while climbing, make a Climb check against the DC of the slope or wall. Failure means you fall from your current height and sustain the appropriate falling damage.
Accelerated Climbing
You try to climb more quickly than normal. By accepting a –5 penalty, you can move half your speed (instead of one-quarter your speed).
Climb DC
Modifier Example Surface or Activity
–10 Climbing a chimney (artificial or natural) or other location where you can brace against two opposite walls.
–5 Climbing a corner where you can brace against perpendicular walls.
If you are large, you can brace against opposite sides of the pit to reduce the DC by 10, while a medium sized creature can climb a corner to reduce it by 5.

Black tentacles cannot reach a flying creature, right?

GM 7thGate |

It doesn't really say, but I'm going to say it can't reach you as long as you fly up by the ceiling, there's 15 foot ceilings down here. 10 feet up sounds high enough to me.

![]() |

@Airon
How much do you weigh with equipment? Over 240 lbs I expect? If less than that Yanda can carry you out. Otherwise she has a potion of spider climb she can toss you. Got any potions of fly or spider climb or something? If not, you should always have some for situations just like this.

![]() |

If she were to drop a potion from 30' up I suspect it would probably break, or that is what she would do. Could she allow herself to freefall the rest of the way, gaining extra movement, and suck up the damage?

GM 7thGate |

It looks like you're 10 feet from the bottom of the pit if you're 30 feet down. If you want to drop a potion for Airon to catch from there, I'm fine with that.

![]() |

By the way, Yanda has a fly skill of obscene amounts with with the bonus from the fly spell and the mutagen and her starting value of +19. I did not bother rolling for any of her maneuvers since they are all auto successes.

![]() |

Your are right with your advise, spiderclimb is very useful. I undestand that enlarge it is not enough to go out, right GM?

GM 7thGate |

Correct, enlarge would give you bonuses to climb since you would be big enough to brace on opposite sides of the pit, but won't get you out directly.

Fly too, or air walk. As the encounters rise in levels it seems that more and more of them have 3D aspects. Oddly not so many are underwater, but I keep an alter self potion around for those situations too.

![]() |
Two nat 1s out of 4 attacks...
Also note, Metalwhiz can use Saving Finale and will if the situations seems serious.

![]() |

Have we seen the tentacles have reach beyond the zone they inhabit? And has anyone attempted to hack away at them? Apologies for bad memory if so!

![]() |

Only in the zone they inhabit and up to 10' high was the ruling.

![]() |

just the pylon checking in...
I feel for you, Patros. Yanda, more than any of my other characters, has been in your position and worse. The last time she was under a dominate person spell and nearly obliterated the entire party. Once she was paralyzed and shoved into a pit with a swarm of snakes. That one was fun too.

![]() |

Yeah, this scenario has a huge number of paralysis/stagger effects in it between the Boss and her special summons and the Ceustodaemons having both slow and hold monster. The only saving grace on the ceustodaemons is that their tactics for 3/5 of them called for breath weapon first and only once, which both stopped them from getting slow out ASAP and doesn't let them do a lot of fly or teleport based hit and runs with breath weapons once they slow people.
I feel like the difficulty for this scenario drops tremendously if you happened to have a cleric or oracle with Freedom of Movement. On the plus side, Yanda will be able to brew Freedom of Movement extracts next level, so she might not have this problem for much longer in her career.
I think that given how much damage Yanda can put out at range, she's going to end up being a high priority for disabling after blowing stuff up in the first few turns if the enemies have access to anything that can try, and she's immune to a number of other physical control attempts due to flight. She's even jucier as a dominate target since she can probably wipe her own party in 2-3 turns, though thankfully there are no dominate effects in this scenario. If she had dominate person instead of hold monster in that 5th level spell slot, this would get really scary really fast.
The thing that is ironic (and I love irony, so even as I whine, I laugh), is that I hardly ever see paralyze/dominate effects in all that many scenarios for my other characters, but it seems a recurring theme for Yanda. But yea, when she was dominated it was Not Good. Creamed the party AND ran her out of bombs so that when she got free she was next to useless.

I had to drop my lance early on out in the yard. Wish I hadn, t but that's how it goes. Will do my move once I can get to my desktop tonight.

![]() |
With regard to the implants, wouldn't they go away with the creature that placed them? Most summoned things left by summoned creatures do, don't they?

GM 7thGate |

The Xill was called with planar binding, rather than summoned, so its body and affects don't fade when it is killed.

![]() |

Does that mean it could be animated as a zombie?

![]() |

Can we make a knowledge roll to figure out how she passed through the wall of force?

GM 7thGate |

Yes, I realize I didn't describe it well this time around. Its the same short-range teleport she has been using to pop around for a lot of the fight. I almost screwed it up and had her teleport out the doors before rereading and realizing she needs to be able to see the square she's going to.
I wasn't actually aware of this one before the adventure, but it looks like a very strong school power substitution, especially in conjunction with wall of force and other battlefield control effects. I think the only subschool power set I like better is the Divination Foresight school powers.

GM 7thGate |

There's been 7 shifts used so far; here's her actions so far during the fight:
29: Shift, Summon Monster V
30: Shift, Summon Monster IV
31: Shift, Black Tentacles
32: Glitterdust
33: Full Round Cast, Summon Monster III
34: Shift, Scorching Ray
35: Shift, Spiked Pit
36: Mirror Image
37: Shift, Wall of Force
38: Summon Monster V (Bonded Object)
39: Potion of Cure Moderate Wounds
40: Hold Monster
41: Dispel Magic
42: Blackfire Eruption
43: Create Pit
44: Shift, Magic Missile

GM 7thGate |

Xill body should be up the spiked pit, I can put it back approximately where it was. It was in the process of trying to throw Metalwhiz into the pit when Yanda finally blew it up. Speaking of which, the spiked pit would have faded last round, so going to take that off.

Alain's attack breaks the last part of the Earth Elemental's core, causing it to fall to pieces and dissipate.
Ok. That was cool.
Thanks for killing it Alain, I think this combo was the coolest thing this character has ever done, that succeeded.

Thank you for providing the ability for one last hit! Now if we could just get rid of that cursid wall...

It will go away soon enough. Half a minute or so.

![]() |

For the (Ghostly) Horde! Well done, Rog!
I'll be playing Alain nad Donahanvs turn either tonight or early tomorrow morning (Central US).

GM 7thGate |

Sorry I missed the question. Yes, it did reach both of you. Also, note that Donahan is going to go unconscious and start dying again at the start of next turn when the lingering song runs out.

![]() |

How would webs affect thrown items? One would think that they would, but by RAW I do not think they would, other than the concealment factor.

GM 7thGate |

The webs give cover if you throw through them, and 20 feet or more gives total cover so you can't attack if there's 20+ feet of webbing between you. Otherwise it doesn't affect them, though if you do fire splash damage they'll light on fire for the affected squares and burn away.

![]() |

Call me dense, but what is the red/maroon dotted line around the adept represent? I must of missed the detail that spelled that out. Sorry!

Oh, sorry. That should be ghostly horde which is no more there.

GM 7thGate |

Out of combat! That was the last combat encounter unless you're still here when the guards show up. I think you're probably going to be ok there; there's a fairly generous time limit unless you screw up a lot in the first half. Once you're done talking to the woman, I think we can assume you search the complex and I'll provide a summary wrap up. If a majority of you want to track the time closely to see if you run out or do something else we can go that direction, just let me know what you would prefer.

![]() |

I am good for quick searching. RogjamedA actually ready to continue fighting even though she feels withdraw is necessary.
But I would left some Beartraps or other quick set traps to make life of the conjurer less boring when (if) she return to the compound.
Maybe I'd even leave Xill-skeleton there to finish scratch her if she return within an hour...
Speaking about recovering woman - I do not have any Resoration in posession, but can easily continue using Infernal Healing

![]() |

Good woth quick search as well. Sorry I was MIA for awhile there. Including year end festivities, I was out of town and thus out of mind once I saw the combat was over.

![]() |

Did we get chronicle sheets yet? Just checking because some GM's like dropbox, some google docs, some like to email them, and sometimes I do not notice that I received it yet.

Having now played more than once, I can now say, this is a terrible scenario. I'm likely to go give it a bad review.
That said, you all were a great group and made it enjoyable, despite that.

![]() |

Well, I'd say most scenarios in this godless region I played have some issues. For example #10-10: The Shattered Shield
But this one was pretty good or at least we made it fine despite sick battles with a wizard in her lair. Which is always a chalenge actually.

![]() |

I rather liked the challenge. But whenever you deal with save or suck spells, there is always the chance at suck. And this scenario was rife with save or suck, so suckage was inevitable.

![]() |

Thanks all! It was fun playing a Cav for the first time. Full disclosure: I picked it so I could see how archetyping a Cavalier in 2e would sorta look like for a character I have in mind for Kingmaker. This was a greatway to test the waters, especially when I was seperated from my horse. Also I've been trying to play as many fifth season scenarios as possible to fulfill the legacy background requirements for Demon Slayer for another character. Two more to go!

GM 7thGate |

I've been getting the chronicle sheets together, apologies but its been a little while since I've done this and its taking a bit. Alain and Patros, I didn't get day job rolls, and Patros I need the other information for your chronicle, if you could provide it.
