"Oh, certainly, certainly. There MUST be a unit on that somewhere. Oh, yes, the Treatise on Pillaging by Morlein of the Yamasara. You'll do fine, yes, with honors!" they giggle.

Other than the teeth, they just look like a halfling. Perhaps a tiefling or ganzi halfing? Not out of the question!

They lead you into the Mr. Ngon’s classroom. Reams of paper appears as the student spreads their hands and giggles. The initial avalanche of books surrounds you all, making spaces adjacent to any of you difficult terrain.

An initial examination reveals that the books cover nearly every subject taught at Dacilane Academy (and some clearly not taught, including planar mathematics, languages of Avistan, and the history of Absalom from Earthfall to present).

Each of you can attempt up to two skill checks to assist in solving the homework; such as a Arcana check to complete a list of significant dragons, a Society check to copy a worksheet on conjugations in Azlanti, a Crafting check to describe a structure using non‑Material-Plane dimensions, a Medicine check to explain the biology of a protean creature, or a Academia Lore check as they prove that the homework is impossible to complete. Lore

If you use the same skill twice, you will take a -1 penalty on the second attempt

You may also choose to Aid an Ally instead of making your own check. Note that Aid does not require you to use the same check, but it must be something that would be applicable to the task at hand... perhaps using Nature to help in an Medicine check.

Other skills that would be taught in school could be used, with a good description. DCs will depend on relevancy

acrobatics could be used to aid another, but not to actually making a roll. With Leaf making a roll, I will take that roll of his over the Acrobatics.

Botting to keep this going

And he tries to expound on his Forest Lore.
Leaf's Forest Lore (T): 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (20) + 3 = 23

Succeeding in a particularly brilliant manner!

Casey the follows suit by attempting to apply her knowledge of the circus to this situation, as it certainly seems like a clown show!

Casey's Circus Lore (T): 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (20) + 3 = 23

Between the two of them, they are able to handle the rest of the homework!

The "Scholar of Sorts" returns to their true protean form, claps their hands together excitedly, and says that they’ve had all the fun they can have and will be “graduating” from the academy. They then leave of their own free will in a cloud of papers and grade sheets!

See image on slide #4

The academy grows quiet and any lingering effects of the haunting seem to go away.

You find that everything has returned to what seems "normal", and are able to head back to the Grand Lodge for a good night's rest.

In the morning you are summoned to the office of Venture-Captain Ambrus Valsin, and are joined by J. Dacilane. "So, what have you learned? How many of the mysteries did you solve?"

We learned that it was the old amusement park owner all the time! Zoinks! the Dacilane Academy place is a bit odd, and I personally learned that I'm not cut out for school.

But you said mysteries, didn't ya? Well, the statues were animated constructs. They hurt. And the hidden door was a thing, but you have to be alone to see it.

Radiant Oath

"It is a strange place. There were statues that animated and moved, which were dangerous and we stopped. A creature with claws has been moving them. The shack was filled with large possums, who attacked us when we disturbed the place. They are now dead. The library held magic, and it was because of an unseen servant that was very diligent in its cleaning of the space. Bela determined that there is chaotic energy in the place. The lab's answers are because of random planar energy responding to questions with randomly connected words. There was a fanged halfling who asked for help with their homework, who the others helped."

Uthkosh sucks in a deep breath as he finishes his rambling synopsis. "Oh, and there was a lot of compositions and poems with snake imagery. Not sure why. I think that was everything."

”We helped a planar creature graduate from the academy, some thing of chaos incarnate. I believe it was responsible for moving the statues as well as the vicious claw attacks. I should know. I discovered opossums do not like delectable pastries which is a shame. I was able to corral the group while in the library which I think goes to prove my worth as an instructor here at Skyreach. Overall we worked well as a team and the mission was most successful.”

Two-Eye scowls. I didn't mention the possums because IT'S NO MYSTERY THAT THEY'RE FOUL SINISTER EVIL THINGS THAT ALL SHOULD BE KILLED.

Horizon Hunters

1 person marked this as a favorite.
NG Female Sensate Gnome Monk 1 of Cayden Cailean | HP 20/20 | AC 19 | Fort +7; Ref +9; Will +9| Perc: +4 | Speed 25ft| [ooc] Hero Points 3*/3 | Exploration Mode: Avoid Notice | Active conditions:.

Casey shakes her head sadly; The poor possums were just defending their territory and only attacked for the pastries, because they were hungry. If we had just left them alone, they could have lived a normal possum life and been happy and healthy. Casey would have liked to have brought their bodies back for a proper burial.

Thinking harder, Casey adds There were things that hurt in many areas, but especially the moving statutes. I also think one should not just listen at the bathroom door trying to hear things, as apparently in arcane schools, they may explode, painfully. I learned I missed nothing by not going to school, but will not rule out doing so in the future. Just maybe not in arcane academia.

Casey:
Thinking back, only three of them "woke up" and were killed. The forth stayed quiet, and may have lived.

J sighs and mutters, “What strange luck. At least the pupils are safe now. Sounds like we were being haunted by some sort of protean!"

----------
Primary Objective: learn the secret of the seventh mystery and end the hauntings of Dacilane Academy, whether by successfully completing the Scholar’s challenge so they graduate, banishing them back the Maelstrom, or defeating them in combat.

Secondary Objective: uncover the supernatural explanation for at least 4 of the original 6 mysteries

You succeeded at both.

However, you did miss two treasure bundles... there was a a bracelet made of calcite beads hidden behind a secret panel in the bathroom. This also was an item attuned to the Maelstrom, and could have been used to banish the Scholar of Sorts[/ooc]

Good Job! I'll get chronicles out tomorrow
