Female Pahtra (Wise One) Mystic 2

"I remember that being all over the news back when I was still apprenticing." Asla reminisced. "I do not at all envy anyone who ever had to interact with that ship."

Hunching over in her chair, Asla propped her chin on a fist, shaking her head on it. She hissed through her teeth, exhaling her palpable dread before speaking. "Lost in the Drift for a week on a moon made of metals that shouldn't even be here, and not so much as a blip from any comm lines. This doesn't bode well..." she droned. Sitting in quiet contemplation for a couple seconds, she shook her head more and more as she detested every other conclusion she came to. With a wince of displeasure on her face, her hand slapped the armrest of the seat as she sat back up. With ears folded back, she confessed, "I don't want to say it but... I think we're going to have to gear up, go down there and investigate."

Hey, I actually caught that one! Thanks, Cosmic Crit!

A quick glance at the layout of the ship and you're able to see a few different potential entrances. There's a split cargo bay, and entrances on either side of the main body of the ship.

Just let me know the "plan of attack" and we'll get started. I'll be putting a map in our R20 table for us to use during exploration

Steel's optics pivot as the other crew discuss the drift rock incident.

"Query. How long ago was that? My memory banks do not possess records of this incident. Comment. Then again... I'm only four cycles old."

Steel shrugs with a -clank- and returns full attention to the Sekhmet.

"Recommendation. Breach nearest we can to the bridge. Any records of what happened would likely be most accessible from that location. Alternative. We breach nearest to engineering. From there we may be able to re-establish power to primary systems, which may be necessary for access to ship's logs anyway."

That feminine voice chimes in at this point, Steel's secondary optics ring turning blue for a moment, "Steel's integrated data jack would facilitate a direct interface with the on board computer systems. However, if active maintenance is required it may be best for mister Nakotre to be in charge of accessing the Sekhmet's logs. This is all assuming that we aren't expending copious amounts of ammunition at the time, of course."

"Happened sometime during 317 I think, so you might not even have been...uh...born yet? Created? Sorry, not sure how you prefer to think of it, but manufactured just seems rude," Nakotre replies.

For reference, the year in-universe always corresponds to the real-world year, with a 3 instead of a 20, so assuming we're playing in the "current year" it's 322 AG to correspond with 2022. And the events of Dead Suns would have played out in-universe corresponding to when each book of the AP came out, so it would have started in 317 and concluded in 318.

"Still, I like your tactical assessment. Only suggestion I have is we check to see if we can just board via the loading ramp first. No sense in blowing a hole in the hull that AA'd probably take out of our paychecks."

Female Pahtra (Wise One) Mystic 2

"I agree with Nakotre. Why damage a ship and it's vital systems when we're probably going to have to fly it back to real space ourselves?" She reminded. "Steel has a point though. We might need the lights on. Put us down as close to the ship as possible."

Asla's tail wags a bit as she shifts around in her seat to get at something else on her side. Pointing to her side with a finger, invisible psychic force pulls a pulsecaster pistol from her belt to her hand. She pulls out the battery to double check if it was charged before reloading it back in. Staring at the pistol, she can't help but feel woefully under armed. Glancing up to Lucia, then back down to the tech duo, she asked, "Out of curiosity, how much fire are you all packing?" as she put away her gun.

Good to know!

Steel recites his loadout with military-like efficiency, [b]"Confirmation.
Standard issue Azimuth lazer rifle, standard issue composite tritanium & ceramic assault plate, standard issue battle staff, for close encounters (he adds more quietly). Declaration. Ammunition is... regrettably limited. I have one reload for the rifle available. Addendum. In addition my on board force screen generator is currently functioning at nominal levels. The system is experimental though, and my personal work on it is ongoing." [b]

Lucia brings the turret back around to a neutral position before dismounting, "I've got my autorifle and a spare mag, plus a flash grenade for room clearing." Lucia speaks up, "And I know a thing or two about making explosives from scratch if need be, though they're not quite as stable as factory made so it'd be best to let me handle them." She takes a moment to check over her gear and fit a light to the under rail of her gun, "Otherwise, company issue ballistic vest fitted with an atmospheric containment field, and if things get hairy I've got a knife. Nothin' too fancy but reliable enough."

Read: Autotarget Rifle (25 rounds, Uniclamp (Flashlight)), Freebooter Armor I, a Survival Knife, a Mk1 Flash Grenade, and she can take 10 minutes to scavenge a free grenade with an item level equal to her level (but can only have one at a time and only she can use them)

After a few minutes of preparation, you set the Vagabond down next to the Sekhmet. You gear up, feeling your suits pressurize against the oncoming vacuum, and step towards the gold and red hull of the ship. Since you're all walking on a relatively substantial mass of matter, it still has a slight gravitational pull, so you don't run the risk of floating away. That being said, you quickly notice how light you each feel, and if any of you experiment, you'll find that you're capable of jumping about twice as high or far as normal. (this is assuming you want to use the entrance closest to the bridge)

You come to the starboard bulkhead leading into the ship. It's currently closed, and though the ships primary systems are offline, there is a blinking red light on the panel showing backup power is on to allow the crew to escape if needed.

"I got my trusty NIL right here, 3 frags, 1 incendiary, 1 shock. Once those are used up, I got my crisis wrench as a backup. My suit's Veskarium surplus I picked up during a job out there. Relatively common for lighter troops, but for a contractor like me, and in my size, in may as well be a rarity!" Nakotre reports.

Once they exit onto the moon's surface, Nakotre bounds towards the Sekhmet, delighting in the lightness.

"THIS is why we megalonyxa's got off Karnoq the first chance we got! Low-grav like this makes a big-a** guy like me as graceful as an ysoki!"

Arriving at the ship itself, Nakotre checks to see if the backup power extends to opening the airlock, and furthermore, if it needs unlocking.

Shrugging her head to the side, Asla sighs, "Well I hope magic will suffice for self-defense in a pinch,"

Outside, the pahtra seems used to the lower gravity. Measuring her gait, she observed aloud, "Hmm... a little heavier than home."

She pulls out a zipstick from her pockets and lights it with token spell, using a snap of her fingers. Holding it to her side, she stops behind Nakotre glancing behind to make sure the crew is following and not some space demon. The smaller Pulonian has to stretch to have a chance at peering beyond the giant technomancer, but she tries nonetheless. Balancing on one foot, she's determined to be aware of as much as possible.

After methodically gearing up Steel looks significantly more... just more... With the bulky heavy armor over his thin mechanical limbs and his red and blue optics he cuts a downright imposing figure. The chest plate even retains the Steward's emblem painted on. The robot grips his semi-automatic rifle in a competent tactical manner and nods to Lucia as they approach the entry hatch, "Recommendation. The two of us should take point on breach. Confirm?"

Female Human (Gravity Dweller) Soldier (Commando) 2

Lucia bounces on the balls of her feet as she sets foot on the moon's surface, getting used to the low gravity before taking her first steps towards the Sekhmet, no sense rushing in and making a fool of herself if she tripped from her foot falls not being as heavy as she's used to, not like they were under fire - yet.

She looked over the ship, her short ponytail bobbing and drifting as her head moved. Eventually her gaze came to rest on the flashing emergency power light, giving a nod towards Steel as she slipped her rifle from her back, keeping it trained on the door, "'s why I'm here, you get it open and I'll cover you." She states, moving to the opposite side of the bulkhead and readying to open fire around the corner if anything hostile popper out from the other side.

Steel's optics pivot briefly to Asla before returning his attention to the door.

"Confirmation. It is my experience that magic can frequently result in significant suppression of aggressive suspects... Clarification... Those who would hurt you."

Nakotre makes an irritated "hrmmph" as he tries to open the door and doesn't make much progress.

"Wow, my claw control is NOT good today," he says. "Steel, you wanna take a look at this?"

Female Pahtra (Wise One) Mystic 2

Holding out her zipstick in front of her as a light source, Asla bends down at her hips to sweep the ground looking for signs of disturbances in the tephra. Her eyes dilate as they reflect the glow of her spell.

Hearing the megalonyxa grumble, Asla waves her glowing zipstick to the side of Nakotre. "Would it help to have some light on the situation?" she offered.

Steel slings his assault rifle over one shoulder as he shifts position to examine the door. His optics oscillate between blue and red as, apparently, both Steel and IVA bend to the task. Steel's hands extrude a series of small tools seemingly from nowhere (his integrated custom rig) as he works to access the panel.

Steel: "Affirmative, mister Nakotre. Engaging bypass override subroutines."
IVA: "Analyzing power flow."
Steel: "Minor ionic degradation detected in auxilliary wiring."
IVA: "Recommend re-routing around degraded wiring via nonpowered circuits."
Steel: "Confirmed. Attempting re-route. Stand by..."
