About STLE 01 - Steel

STLE-01 [Steward Tactical Law Enforcement) was the designation for a new prototype law enforcement robot being designed for mass production by the Stewards on Absalom station. The intent was to create a force to support flesh and blood officers in the field to shore up their manpower which has been stretched increasingly thin.

The developers succeeded, only they were actually too successful. The advanced positronic brain they created unintentionally attracted a nascent soul. Upon realizing that STLE-01's independent behavior was not simply a software malfunction the law-abiding developers ceased work on the project and turned their attention to caring for the new robotic life form they had created.

STLE01 chose the name 'Steel' for himself (a clear derivation of his unit designation) and in time chose to venture out on his own with the Stewards' blessing.

Steel, while completely free willed, retains much of the sense of law, order, and justice instilled in him by his original software. He is flexible enough to know when the greater good should take precedence but has a tendency to strongly respect hierarchy and procedure.

Along with Steel's consciousness is IVA (Integrated Personal Assistant, pronounced 'ee-va'), his exocortex. IVA was designed as an independent subroutine that would help manage some of Steel's less processor intensive functions. While not truly sentient IVA does express some semblance of personality, seeming calm and sincere, and occasionally speaks through Steel. Her distinct voice and the change of his optic lights from red to blue indicate when she is speaking.
