"Many Thanks be on to you, Grand Librarian Rethra"
GM Qstor wrote:The ship descends to the city of Gruddonar. Gruddonar’s buildings are suspended above the sea on massive stilts and connected by an intricate network of rope bridges. Though over 200 feet separate the buildings from the ocean, a damp crust of plants and minerals covers all but the upper reaches of the stilts."Datch did say to contact Dr. Kyefi Mekkisan before going. He helped her with business concerns and may be able to help us."
Can we do a search for this Doctor? How about any other info we may need to know about the planet and it's laws?
sure
Checking on your datapads you easily find directions.
Dr. Kyefi Mekkisan’s faculty office is full of books, aquariums,
specimens and datapads, all neatly organized. He ushers some
students out the door in preparation for visitors, wishing them
well on their exams.
Dr. Mekkisan is a young brenneri, wearing comfortable yet
waterproofed tweed and slacks. He greets his guests warmly.
“Ah, you must be the Starfinders! Perfect timing. Call me Kyefi; I
don’t stand on formality. Have a seat, and a drink.” He motions to
seats around a table stacked with research materials, a colorful
tea set, and a framed picture of his significant other.
He sets out tea and cookies. "Here's your mission, please take a ship to this raised landing pad. He points to a map. "From there, you can board exploration buggies to travel across the Rindowak nature preserve to the tide pool at your Datch’s coordinates,
where you'll need to obtain a coral key. You can feed hypernutrients to the local corals which will cause them to rapidly grow stalks in a complex pattern and create a key. The patterns for a given pool are always the same, but unique compared to any other coral colony in nearby pools and can therefore be used as cryptographic keys." He hands several packets of hypernutrients to the party.
"My graduate studies were on the corals. This is SO exciting! I wish I was going with you! But be careful because many pools
are home to territorial beasts." Kyefi reviews satellite imagery of
Datch’s pool and announces that it’s currently safe.

Mute and player stare wide-eyed and the brenneri's science talk about coral. "I've never heard of such a thing before, ooohhh...oooohhh...can I feed the coral?"

Option-8 takes in everything the Doctor said. "Kyefi, we thank you for your help with this situation. If we are attacked while traveling through the nature preserve, are there any laws on harming the animals while protecting ourselves? Tell me, how long and well do you know Datch?"

"No just be careful not to over kill any species and just defend yourselves from aggression." He pauses then continues. "For a few months. I helped her with some business. She's very up standing! She wanted to make sure everything was followed to the letter!"
"Hm, an interesting method of encryption. Would it be possible to transplant coral and create an identical pattern?"
"I haven't tried that but it sounds interesting!" He finishes his tea. "Well I'm sure you want to be off to the area! Oh..Don't forget since the procedure can be performed only at low tide when the current is slow. Before you depart, make sure to back to your ship before high tide, when the water level rises by about 200 feet."

"Yes of course" He hands a food packet to Mute.
Mute stares at the packet and shakes it Have an idea if it rattles or make any noise? Like a bag of chips or a bag of gummy bear, etc though from his life between the diaspora and Absalom Station, the whole thing is blowing his mind. He gingerly tucks it into a jacket pocket.
At the mention of no killing, he starts whining, "Fine...I won't kill..." saying this while a corner of his lips curl.
So, what will happen at high tide? It's just water and we can swim out of it, right?" He thinks on this then says, "Uhhh, yeah, I've never swam in anything but a controlled pool so as you say, by 200 feet."

it's like a bag of thick "fish flakes"
At the mention of no killing, he starts whining, "Fine...I won't kill..." saying this while a corner of his lips curl.
"I said no indiscriminate killing! There are living species in the pool!" Kyefi takes another cookie.

NOTE you take 2 "buggies" like dune buggies to the area.
At the coordinates given by Datch, the
landscape looks starkly different. There aren’t
any animals to be seen on the ground; just a
few lonely razorgulls flying overhead. Banks
of desiccated barnacles slope downward to a
pit where stony husks of dead coral are visible,
devoid of any living polyps. Shallow puddles are
filled with foul-smelling algae, and only a few
deeper pools show any signs of life. The area
is eerily quiet.

the grey area is a pool like a foot deep of water. The green "spots" by Option 8 are coral
Sorry it's not exactly clearly given in the scenario. Datch has a cryto key made from the coral. And Dr. Kyefi has a procedure to extract it. To duplicate the procedure you'll need a requires a successful DC 16 Life Science, Sleight of Hand, or relevant Profession check

"You keep an eye on the aberrations and I will approach the coral to extra the information we were sent for," suggests Farsurrwag. "You may want to approach them before they approach you."
"After all, keep your friends close, but keep the anemones closer!" The bleachling erupts in a fit of laughter as he heads to the coral and attempts the procedure.

The shirren sets her static arc pistol on stun. She then tells Mute “You can get closer to feed the coral but you’ll need to do that sweeftly.” refering to the Sleight of Hand check, Mute might be trained in that.
The doctor gets a bit closer in case her expertise in the life science is needed, ready to depart as soon as the team gets the key, in order to leave the local fauna alone.

"Oh yeah...!" Mute then turns to the nearest shadow and begins stealthing his way to the nearest patch of coral, of course going the long way around the creatures while slinging his rifle. He then slides his hand in his jacket to pull the food and sprinkles it over the coral. "Num nums, weird little rock plants..."

Ouch! That's into hit points, which means I can use this reaction for the first time:
Laugh at Danger: As a reaction when you take Hit Point damage from a significant enemy that doesn’t reduce you to 0 Hit Points, you can grant allies within 30 feet a +2 morale bonus to AC until the end of your next turn. This is a sense-dependent effect. Once you’ve used this ability, you can’t use it again until you take a 10-minute rest to regain Stamina. A significant enemy is generally a creature whose CR is no lower than the party's APL-4.As the creature slams against the bleachling, Farsurrwag begins to cackle and laugh uncontrollably. "HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!"
He then stabs at the creature with his glove.

Unfortunately, we are "cornered" on the map and don't have any place to run to. If possible, Farsurrwag would use his remaining move action to head "north" at maximum speed. It would provoke an AoO, but he has no safe place to "Step" to at the moment.

okay, Let's just get a consensus since technically the game day is over on Monday. Sorry we ran long

Perhaps, I misunderstood. If by "going to run", you mean run for the vehicles and drive away since we already have what we came for, it sounds like a good idea to me.
