Most of the party moves as quickly as they can to begin the assault. Aravon pushes Smiley up to the mid level and Gammer jumps up onto the next level by aid of his fancy jump jets. Ceolor follows the rest of the party and takes a quick shot from next to Darin.
Ceolor: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (20) + 11 = 31
damage, C & E: 2d4 + 6 + 1d2 ⇒ (2, 1) + 6 + (1) = 10
damage, C & E: 2d4 + 6 + 1d2 ⇒ (2, 4) + 6 + (2) = 14
The focus fire on the closest of the jinsuls is nearly enough to put it down until Ceolor unleashes his solar flare and the jinsul’s head explodes, spraying ichor and chitin bits across Smiley’s tack..
The demon shrouds itself in a cloud of purple and gray fog and otherworldly guttural chanting begins from within.

There are 3 levels to this structure labeled +10, +20 and +30 above the elevation of where you are starting. You do NOT have line of sight to the demon from the level you are at now. The ladder/stairs are difficult terrain (double movement) required.
The captives are the four white tokens just to the left of the +20 marker. Maybe try not to kill them or catch them in explosion radii.
Staar
|
Staggered, Staar moves and jetpacks into the second level, also getting close to the wall of the third level. She attunes photon again.
Are the prisoners only tied up, or also tied to the structure somehow? Looking at the map closely, they seem to be on top of some huge trap door, so Staar might have to work getting them out of it first

Did Jinsul move? Or are they mindlessly standing there being slaughtered? ;)
I can’t blame Thanksgiving or football or family, but I can blame lack of sleep after a 2-leg 20+ hour flight day. So, just cause Aravon asked nicely….
Blue moves towards the mounted half-orc and tosses a flash grenade at Smiley’s feet
Grenade: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (4) + 12 = 16
Aravon and Smiley: Blinded for 1d4 ⇒ 1 rounds. DC 12 Reflex negates
Yellow shakes off its horror at seeing how easily Green fell and also tosses a grenade down towards the new attackers
Grenade: 1d20 + 12 - 2 ⇒ (6) + 12 - 2 = 16
Ceolor and Darin: Blinded for 1d4 ⇒ 3 rounds. DC 12 Reflex negates
Red clambers down the rickety stairs and heaves its grenade with all of its might
Grenade: 1d20 + 12 - 6 ⇒ (20) + 12 - 6 = 26
Gammer and Darin: Blinded for 1d4 ⇒ 1 rounds. DC 12 Reflex negates
Now that Staar is closer to the captives, she notices that they are surrounded by valuables left by the jinsuls as an offering to the kohkleim, including gems, jewelry, religious art, and trophies taken from conquered worlds. Surely such a trove would be worth a lot of money to whomever got it off the planet.
I need a Perception check from Aravon. Also, anyone other than Aravon or Staar who comes up to the +20’ level may give me a Perception check.
The bonfire next to Darin and Ceolor seems to be sputtering out, but the heat it radiates is still palpable. They both realize it’s probably best to steer clear of the other piles of burning trash and bodies. See Bonfires ooc below

Yes, they are on a rising platform/trap door. This facility was previously an entertainment complex. I’m going to say that their hands and legs are bound in such a way as to prevent them from fleeing, but not tied directly to the structure.

Refelx v first grenade: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (1) + 13 = 14
Reflex vs 2nd: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (11) + 13 = 24
Blinking heavily, Darin is still unable to focus and see as one of the jinsul's grenades' flash obstructs the dwarf's vision. Flailing about, the blinded dwarf moves forwards towards where he believes he remembered the ladder was.
Moving. stupid 5% chance of failure :p

Tokno rushes forward, stopping next to the blinded dwarf, and helpfully says, "The ladder's this way, just past me, Darin." Then he points to the yellow jinsul and calls out to the others, "Take out that one, we need to secure our path up!"
Move, then get 'em on yellow (+1 attack).

Gammer, seeing this trick before, is ready when the Jinsul throw the flash grenades and averts his gaze.

Reflex Aravon, DC12: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (3) + 8 = 11
Reflex Smiley, DC12: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (12) + 7 = 19

"You multilegged piece of dead meat! When I get my sight back I will use your body as a club to beat that demon of yours!" Aravon yells in Orcish which the creature clearly don't understand. But his tone of voice and expression make it clear
Intimidate, Antagonize: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (7) + 12 = 19Antagonize - Vanguard feat is what it makes it language-independent, Angatonize regular feat - makes the target off-target if I hit DC 15+1.5xCR

Tokno helps the blinded dwarf and gives Gammer some tips on killing it. Gammer takes those tips to heart, and does a good bit of damage, leaving the Yellow jinsul stumbling about. (Flat footed)
Point of order: I asked for a Perception check from Aravon, but then I might have confused it with the blindness.
Aravon Perception: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (6) + 9 = 15
Smiley Reflex Save: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (4) + 7 = 11
In all the chaos Aravon pointed Smiley at the Yellow jinsul just before the flash grenade went off. He hadn’t noticed anything unusual, and Smiley isn’t particularly mechanically inclined. As the yasakaja steps forward, the floor beneath them suddenly opens up. Smiley reacts quickly, and jumps back away from the yawning pit. When Aravon’s sight clears, he realizes it’s another of the rising platforms like where the captives are. But this one appears to have been set up as a trap. A trap that Smiley’s quick reflexes avoided.
Blue has a couple targets lined up nicely at the bottom of the stairs and fires a jet of fire at Darin and Tokno both.
Rifle: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (15) + 12 = 27
damage, F: 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 2 = 4
It’s an easy shot and the line of fire burns both of the Starfinders.
Red runs right up to Ceolor heedless of its own safety and pulls the trigger on its weapon trying to get Ceolor and Gammer both with one long shot of fire.
Rifle: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (1) + 12 = 13
damage, F: 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (5) + 2 = 7
AO from Ceolor if he can.
But in its excitement, it really doesn’t take good aim.
Yellow yells something back to Blue, likely about how badly the later set the trap. Then it too fires with its flame rifle hoping to hit both Aravon and Smiley.
Rifle: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (8) + 12 = 20
damage, F: 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (5) + 2 = 7
Aravon’s armor protects him, but Smiley’s scales begin to glow and blister.

He lights his feet on fire and with a whoop rushes around them leaving a wall of purning footsteps around the jinsul as the solarion raises their weapon and fires a shot. "My flames are a little longer lasting than that."
Ceolor will provoke an AoO, if the jinsul can take one, but has concealment against it.

Tokno shoots and hits Yellow. Though not for much damage, at least it’s a hit. Cause neither Aravon, Darin nor Gammer manage to connect with their targets. When he lands on the middle level, Gammer notices that the other elevator looks like it’s rigged as a trap also. (The gray rectangular zone just south of Gammer’s current position.)
As Ceolor starts his race around the Red jinsul, it lashes out with its mandibles
Bite AO: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (5) + 9 = 14 but misses horribly as it flinches from the ring of burning metal.
The solarian’s attack hits home, further damaging the juinsul that he left surrounded by fire.
Seeing itself in such a position, Red elects not to move into the flame. It’s not smart, but it can shoot Ceolor just fine from where it is.
Rifle: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (20) + 12 = 32
damage, F: 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 2 = 4
Crit damage, F: 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (5) + 2 = 7
In its panic it manages to put a blast of fire right into Ceolor’s face!
Blue still has the same two targets lined up nicely at the bottom of the stairs. Nice of them to make it easy.
Rifle: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (10) + 12 = 22
damage, F: 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 2 = 3
This time, Darin hears the click of the igniter and dodges the line of flame. But Tokno had split his attention between the two jinsuls, and the fire catches the gnome in his shooting arm.
Yellow backs away from the nimble Smiley, who is easily managing to maintain his grip on the sides of the pit and the ladder.
Rifle: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (14) + 12 = 26
damage, F: 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 2 = 5
This time, his aim is a little better and both Aravon and Smiley get burned.
Staar stumbles through the fog, bumps into a wall, then finds the ladder to the next level up where she last saw the demon. She can hear it muttering and growling somewhere up ahead, but doesn’t quite get close enough to be able to see it. It however, seems to be able to see her just fine.
Lightning!: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (10) + 13 = 23
damage, E: 1d8 + 7 ⇒ (7) + 7 = 14
A bolt of that familiar purple lightning materializes from within the fog and strikes her in the back. Down below, she hears the captive Starfinders yelp in pain as they too get zapped by a static discharge.

"Hang in there, Ceolor, you're better than that monster!" Tokno calls out to the scorched solarian. But then he gets grazed again himself, and curses his lack of cover. He hurries up the ladder, and moves to a place where he can still help most of his friends without presenting such a tempting target. He's careful to go around the trapdoor that Smiley almost fell into.

Sorry for the delay, folks. I was waiting for Ceolor, but will bot him.
Ceolor continues to attune and summons a sheath of plasma for his glowing weapon mote.
Solar Flare, Heat drain: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (6) + 11 = 17
Plasma Sheath, Photon, Fire damage: 2d4 + 1d2 + 11 ⇒ (1, 1) + (1) + 11 = 14
Tokno gives a pep talk to the red-skinned solarian who clearly feels much better.
Aravon makes an acrobatic leap from Smiley’s back and sends the big critter to go help the captives. He smashes the jinsul in the head with his shield, but it’s still barely standing. Gammer advises his team to focus fire, but he gets a little distracted by the pit trap at his feet. His shot hits but it’s definitely not the full effect he was going for. Yellow is now clearly on its last leg.
Darin fires blindly, and his shot just misses the Blue jinsul.
Staar steps forward gingerly and as she does she sees the demon right in front of her face. She instinctively punches at it with all her might, and connects on its solid body. Waves of cloud and grit roil out from the impact. She’s not surprised that its dark cloudy form absorbs some of the strike, though, since she’d turned down the cold iron implements.
Not incorporeal, but it does have DR 5/cold iron. Now that Staar can see it clearly, she can make a Mysticism check to see what else she might know about these kinds of demons.
Suddenly a loud roar fills the arena space as First Seeker Jadnura arrives in the gunboat. ”We’ll provide fire support until everyone is ready to evac.” To prove his point, the gunner opens fire on the Blue jinsul.
Red shoots again,
Rifle: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (10) + 12 = 22
But misses in all the excitement.
Blue decides that the little vermin-man downstairs isn’t a threat. But the big man up here certainly is. Heedless of damaging his ally, he fires a line of flame through Yellow into Aravon
Rifle: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (12) + 12 = 24
damage, F: 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 2 = 4
The flames crisp his ally, dropping Yellow, but just wash over Aravon thanks to the entropic energy surrounding the half-orc
I accounted for your +1 AC from your Entropic Pool.
The demon didn’t particularly like being punched by the Princess of Ice and Death. It back away into the fog, and Staar hears those same grumbling noises as before.
Lightning!: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (2) + 13 = 15
damage, E: 1d8 + 7 ⇒ (2) + 7 = 9
Again, a bolt of purple lightning targets her . And again the captives down below scream as static discharges erupt across them like St Elmo’s fire. Taking matters into their own (bound) hands, they begin to roll and shift in order to escape the fog. Notably, the one that was outside the fog already doesn’t seem to have been affected by the static arcs.
@Staar: The demon took a guarded step because it can see just fine in its own fog. However, you can’t, so your movement to keep up with it will provoke. And yes, it’s really big and has reach.

Ceolor’s first shot at Red misses, and he turns to fire at Blue only to see his teammates drop it. He swings back around and sends a bolt of plasma into Red, finally finishing the last jinsul.
A tiny bit of quiet descends on the battlefield for only a moment. Then a soft swishing is heard as the demon takes an opportune swipe at Staar
Claw AO: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (19) + 11 = 30

Sorry about the delay, figured I was at the end, and should wait to see how the others' attacks fared. Go team!
Seeing the last two jinsul drop, Tokno scurries past the bonfire, pulling out his knife with his free hand. He stops amid the captive Starfinders, and tells them in reassuring tones, "Everyone try to stay calm, we're here to rescue you." He starts sawing at the bindings of the prisoner furthest from the fog. "Once I get you free, take my knife to help the others, okay?
Tokno doesn't seem to have a better use for his standard action right now, so in case it's needed:
Survival knife damage, S: 1d4 ⇒ 3
Question: I'm assuming the NPC Starfinders only have HP, not SP, so inspiring boost wouldn't help them? I don't think that will change his actions this round, but it might if any are hit by the static arcs again.

At the same time, Smiley grabs one of the starfinders in mandibles.

Crap. Aravon, if you're still around could you redo your action. I posted above that all the jinsuls are dead, but forgot to remove them from the map. Sorry.
Aravon
|
Ha! No worries GM, sorry I was away after I posted ;)
Aravon wants to punch Jinsul, but then he notices the odd angles between its body and its legs. That one is dead...
"Smiley take them out of there!"
Yells as he begins to move towards the demon.
2 actions to Smiley (pick one up, and move). Aravon single move

Tokno scrambles towards the closest captive and cuts off the crude cord lashings around her hands. She in turn gets to work on her own legs and rolls further from the creepy fog. ”Somebody get Linet. She’s the last one still in there,” she calls out referring to Team Beta’s halfling operative leader.
Smiley grabs the closest Starfinder, a pahtra with gray streaks of age in his fur. The yasakaja gently hauls him away from the fog and deposits him on the decking. ”I’m gettin’ too old for this,” the pahrtra mumbles. ”But thanks, big guy.”
The gunboat shifts its target to the demon. ”We’ve got good vantage from up here, but looks like we don’t have the right type of ammo for this. Keep hitting it!” Jadnura calls over the comms.
Sensing its prey escaping from the fog, but seeing another right in front of it, the demon vents its anger with a bellowing roar before trying to tear into Staar.
Claw: 1d20 + 11 - 4 ⇒ (5) + 11 - 4 = 12
Claw: 1d20 + 11 - 4 ⇒ (4) + 11 - 4 = 11
She easily dodges the demon’s clumsy rage filled attack.
ROUND 5
Conditions: Fog cloud around the demon. Bonfires!* Traps! Static Arcs in the fog!
The Altar!
Everyone may act
Darin (-4)
Gammer
Ceolor (IB’d)
Aravon (-5, Smiley -12)
Staar (-35)
Tokno (-7)
Demon (-29)
{Starfinder captives} (-12)
==========================
Bonfires* (except the one with the White X on it): The bonfires deal 1d6 fire damage per round to any adjacent creature and 4d6 fire damage per round to any creature within the blaze. Creatures inside the bonfire must succeed at a DC 15 Reflex save each round or gain the burning condition. Stairs and bonfire squares function as difficult terrain, but simply passing through a bonfire zone does not deal damage or require a save.
@Tokno, yes they’re NPCs with only HP in their stats. But it likely won’t be an issue once they’re all out of the fog.

@GM: Check.
"I'll get her out," Tokno promises, and calls to his companions, "I've got this, just get that demon!" As he heads into the fog to find Linet, he holsters his static arc pistol so he'll have both hands free to pull the halfling out.
Move into the fog to Linet, move action to get hold of her to help her out. Hurray for the last one being Small!
Aravon
|
Fast mount, DC15: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (4) + 10 = 14
Aravon jumps on Smiley but bumps from his side and falls to the ground...
He slowly gets into the saddle and moves towards the demon as he takes out the cold iron hook sword.
Move action: mount smiley, standard action: move, Smiley Action: move
Darin d'Xin
|
Darin moves carefully as he looks at the massive smoke clouds and frowns.
Of course. Can see agian just in time to...not see.
The dwarf double-taps his mechanical eye. The slightest shimmer seems to spread around him as he waves the Starfinders towards him while turning his head back and forth between the cloud and the ground - trying to split focus between a glimpse of the demon or the sight of more jinsul approaching.
You figure where that lihgtning beast is, point!
Standard to activate Energy Shield for 11 temp HP
Gammer Greenspan
|
Gammer moves (move action) over to the captives by avoiding the platform, drops his Thunderstrike Sonic Pistol (free action) in the middle one's lap, draws his Survival Knife (part of move action) and slices through the left most one's bonds (standard action). He holds the Survival Knife out so if the Starfinder wants to take it they can. "Get away to a safe distance and away from these fires. Don't step on those platforms and keep your eyes peeled for any reinforcements."
Ceolor Xusha
|
Ceolor pulls out the gun he gathered from the supplies the group was given, but ultimately holds off on firing until he has a clearer (well, just a) shot. He keeps his replica rifle in his other hand and waits for the clouds to clear or more enemies he can see show up.
Readying an action to shoot whatever enemy shows itself first.
Solar Flare, Heat drain, vs. EAC, Readied shot: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (13) + 11 = 24
Plasma Sheath, Photon, Fire damage: 2d4 + 1d2 + 11 ⇒ (2, 2) + (1) + 11 = 16
Staar
|
Staar attacks the monster again:
Solar gauntlet vs. boss's KAC: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (17) + 11 = 28
Bludgeoning damage: 1d6 + 14 + 1d4 ⇒ (2) + 14 + (1) = 17

Tokno stumbles carefully through the fog looking for the last Starfinder. He finds Linet, and the halfling team leader holds out her bound hands to him. ”Just pull me by the bindings. The floor is pretty slick here from the fog and snow. I’ll slide.” He’s able to get a good grip, and he’s confident that even with his slight build he can get her out of the fog quickly.
Aravon has a little trouble at first getting back in the saddle. He moves into the fog to find the demon, but it finds him first.
Claw AO: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (2) + 11 = 13
It tries to take a quick swipe at the approaching pair, but misses when Staar distracts him. By punching him in the face.
I’m removing the fill from the fog shape for simplicity. But inside the fog is Concealment. And from outside you can’t see the demon or your allies, so please act accordingly.
Darin and Gammer gather by the others while Ceolor waits to see if other jinsuls arrive. Staar does what she does best and punches the demon in its weird ugly face.
The gunboat continues to shoot the demon in the top of its head. The gunner is the skittermander soldier from the team that was forced to withdraw, and he’s just happy to be able to HELP!
The demon slides away from the two opponents and switches to the newest attacker in order to get a sense of how tough Aravon is.
Claw: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (15) + 11 = 26
damage, E & S: 1d8 + 9 ⇒ (7) + 9 = 16
It does seem to be harder to hit than the other one that keeps punching him. Maybe he’ll switch back to her next time.

"Good call, I left my knife with your teammates. I'm glad you're not an izalguun," Tokno jokes as he pulls Linet out of the fog, using his own tracks in the snow to keep from going too far off-course. Once they're in clear air again, he straightens up and looks around the battlefield. Unfortunately, he's no longer sure where all of his teammates are, though he can certainly hear the impacts and growls of the fight taking place somewhere above him. He skirts the edge of the fog to the base of the ladder, drawing his cold-iron-loaded pistol as he goes.
Standard to pull Linet out of the fog; move to move and draw.
I don't expect him to ever get a shot at the demon itself, but he needs to be w/i 30 ft. for inspiring boost. For which, fortunately, he and his target only need to be able to see or hear each other.
Gammer Greenspan
|
Gammer runs forward (move action) to the edge of the cloud while pulling out the pack of grenades/explosives from his Starfinder Backpack (part of move action). He also re-holsters the semi-auto pistol in his belt (standard action). He calls over his Comm, "You guys should back off so I can blow this demon up." Listening to the ongoing skirmish within the cloud, he eagerly awaits his teammates response.
Staar
|
Staar has put in a lot of work into the boss, so she punches it one more time before moving away for the rest of the group to take some punishment:
Solar gauntlet vs. boss's KAC: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (11) + 11 = 22
Bludgeoning damage: 1d6 + 14 + 1d4 ⇒ (1) + 14 + (3) = 18
Miss chance: 1d100 ⇒ 77
Darin d'Xin
|
Ahead of ya. Darin yells to Gammer. Still far away from the fog and unable to see the demon, Darin takes a wild shot from where his allies near it seem to be yelling.
Firing to the area his allies seem to be yelling. Since I can't see them clearly either, feel free to roll a random square in addition to the below if it's unlikely Darin would even be able to be confident of the right square to point at.
Attack v KAC: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (16) + 10 = 26 for cold iron Piercing: 2d8 + 6 ⇒ (5, 8) + 6 = 19
Miss chance, want high: 1d100 ⇒ 97
Ceolor Xusha
|
Ceolor still not seeing any enemies to target, decides to keep his watch for a moment, before taking a pot shot into the fog above the heads of where his companions sound like they are.
Not sure if he can even hit but going to shoot for the fun of it.
Solar Flare, Heat drain: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (18) + 11 = 29
Plasma Sheath, Photon, Fire damage: 2d4 + 1d2 + 11 ⇒ (4, 1) + (2) + 11 = 18
Miss chance (if he can even try it): 1d100 ⇒ 84
Aravon
|
Aravon strikes with his silver sword
Attack vs EAC: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (10) + 9 = 19
Strike: 1d6 + 9 ⇒ (1) + 9 = 10
Conceleament, high good: 1d100 ⇒ 76
Aravon strikes with the sword, hoping to hit the demon. The creature is huge, Smiley takes a step north to keep on moving

Tokno drags the halfling out of the fog and leaves a knife with her so she can finish the job of freeing herself and her teammates. ”Thanks,” she says in relief. ”Go get ‘em. We’ll get to the gunboat. And I promise we won’t leave you guys behind.”
Gammer prepares to make things go boom. Staar gives the demon one last jab straight to its jinsul-shaped mandibles before backing off. While it doesn’t mind that she’s leaving, it doesn’t like getting hit either and tries to claw her one last time as she retreats.
Claw AO: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (2) + 11 = 13
But it’s too weak to put much into the attack.
Darin can barely see the top of something moving in the fog, but he sees where the gunboat fired. He takes a wild shot from down below, and he’s answered by a roar of pain as his cold iron round hits. Unlike Darin, though, Ceolor is just a little too low to make the shot effectively and his bolt of plasma goes zinging off into the sky.
Aravon and Smiley keep moving to keep the demon in melee. From atop his trusty steed he swings his cold iron sword enhanced with entropic energy. It slices through the space where the demon’s neck joins its jinsul abdomen. The roar of pain and frustration echoes off the dilapidated buildings.
The demon slowly dissipates into thinner and thinner purplish fog before disappearing completely, along with all the fog in the arena area. The clouds above begin to clear, and the ashen gray snow stops falling. The view of the clear night sky is a welcome sight after so much time under the leaden skies.
COMBAT OVER!!!
Standby for a wrap up post.

"Praise the Loverly Ones," Tokno says reverently as his teammates finish off the demon. He grins broadly as the fiend, the fog, and the clouds above all begin thinning away to nothing. "We've cleansed a hideous blight from this beautiful universe."
