Link to Chapter Two Gameplay Thread
General Notes:
I try to post every day to keep things moving, and if you can keep a similar pace, that would be great. We all have real life interruptions of course, so if you can't post and we're in the middle of something like a combat, please give me bot instructions or I'll assume your PC does Total Defense.
Please place a good array of information in your character header. Knowing your PC's EAC/KAC, Perception mod, Initiative mod, etc., saves me a lot of time when doing posts. If you need help figuring out how to format that, we can help you. Please keep your tagline updated if you take damage, expend resources, etc. I won't do this for you.
Please post a full character sheet in your profile. That way, I can look stuff up and answer my own "how did they do that?" questions. Related, if you have some crazy weird or complicated build and want to explain anything, here's a good place.
I will give out SFS Chronicles at the end of the chapter for those of you who are interested.
Finally, role-playing is good! Please give your PC some personality and engage with the other PCs and NPCs. I'll gently move us along if we're dwelling too much in one part of the adventure.
Any questions, ask away!

Dot. Been busy at work, should be posting normal rate soon.

Since nobody had anything to say about the loot, I assume we sold everything I had marked for sale. I created a Sold tab and move everything over there for record keeping purposes. So everyone gets 2901.62 credits. I also moved everything that wasn't claimed to a Storage tab and everything that was claimed to the Used Tab.
I bought a Laser Sight and I claimed one of the Uniclamps to attach a fire extinguisher to my carbine.
Also took the mindlink headband thing so Xylian can more efficiently communicate without needed to exhale and move his lips and stuff.

Everyone can add 250 to that. We'll split the reward I got for that side quest as well.

Thanks for sharing, Zharis.
I just shared the recruitment thread in a few of my other PBP games here. Hopefully the GM will have at least a few submissions to choose from.
Zharis |
Things Zharis bought during downtime (let me know if any of this is unavailable and I can choose again):
--Pet: Cabeezo the Stylemander (grooming thing for her fur... they live for three months. Just a storyline thing because she misses Cabizo)
--Swarm battery (This is a living self-recharging high capacity (40 charges) battery. It recharges really slowly (1 charge an hour), but since I am not overcharging stuff regularly, I figure it will probably cover my needs and I can donate my extra batteries to Xylian who goes through them like water.) :)
--Library Chips (one each for Culture, Engineering, Life Science, Mysticism, and Physical Science) ... these give +4 to skill checks in those areas, and Zharis wants to make sure her characterizations are up to date despite her personal failings.
--Advanced Vidgame. Zharis found a pirated copy of a video game based on the events of As the Black Hole Turns (which she did voice work on), and she was struck with nostalgia at seeing a piece of home so far away, so she bought it, and started trying to play through it. (She might be addicted.)
--Ring of Resistance. Gives +1 to lowest save.
--Personal Upgrade, Strength.
(also replaced Stabilize spell gems and healing serums)
Zharis |
Okay, took that off my sheet.
Xylian Xuuvats |
Neet! I think Biohacker was still in development whence we started, soooo new class for us =)
Tulgram Coldforge |
Hello everyone, guys! Glad to play with you. I haven't played biohacker myself yet, but this concept has been in my head for a long time. Feel free to correct me on the mechanics of this class, I may be wrong with it somewhere. I hope you enjoy playing with me! Once again, warm greetings to all from cold Russia!
Jin Goei |
Heyas! Coincidentally, Jin just switched from the capture pole to an electrical mallet - otherwise we would have some odd synergies in combat.
Tulgram Coldforge |
1. Can I ask each you to give a description of your characters? You can just link here to a post from the time when you introduced yourself to each other (a long time ago). I want to visualize you better.
2. Do we have UPB? I want to craft healing serums, I can do it with my Life Science instead of Mysticism.
3. And yes, we need serums of healing. I have some tricks, like 'stabilize ally on a distance with 1 HP', but none of them are about restoring tons of HP very fast.
PS. Jin, it сould be odd, but still quite congruent for a hobgoblin and a duergar working in pairs. The good old slave-owning days from the missing Gollarion .))
Xylian Xuuvats |
Xylian looks like a drow because Paizo doesn't let us make our own profile pics.
I believe we liquidated all the UPBs...
We've all got I think three serums of healing.
Zharis |
Yeah, the UPBs were sold, sorry.
Zharis basically just looks like the profile pic. The introduction post was two games ago in a different thread somewhere, but she's really tall (Pahtras are like 6-7 feet tall and she is on the high end of that) and if you have watched Vesk entertainment channels, you have seen her in the wildly popular "As the Black Hole Turns" series, as well as many other other, but perhaps lesser-known, roles.
If you are a fan, you know that her family is crazy rich, and if you were a pahtra or interested in pahtra culture for some reason, you would know that her facial fur patterns show her to be super high status among the cat hierarchy (although no one mentions that these days, it still has sway).
Jin Goei |
Jin is a 7 feet tall and 300 pounds heavy wall of muscle, usually wearing tight clothes. He resembles a human with blue skin and slight goblinoid features, along with fangs protruding from his mouth. His hair is on the shorter side, and is impeccable.
His armor is always customized to look like a samurai of old Minkai.
Though not a part of the military government of the Gideron Authority - he always worked in private security - he's very much in favor of their actions and means of ruling.
Hani Makoa |
The pictures Tulgram would have seen of Hani probably would have shown a slightly overweight telia in traditional garb that included brightly colored flowers. Of course he would have been smiling--a goofy, jolly infectious smile to most.
His current appearance is much closer to Jin's. He has clearly lost weight, and his armor is new and well maintained. It does include a small badge of his clan's traditional colors on one his shoulders.
He has a backpack stuffed with a wide variety of equipment, including a state-of-the-art computer.
Jin Goei |
The Fly Free or Die AP introduced a new sub-system of rules for earning/trading BPs which you can use to build or buy a ship.
I'm GMing that AP, and so far it ended up with the PCs having more BPs than the average for level. I tried convincing them to buy a second ship, but they just pimp their own with more and more guns.
I hope Horizons of the Vast ends up introducing some way of spending BPs on real state.
Tulgram Coldforge |
Thank you all for describing your characters! I really appreciate it.
GM, I'm done juggling +2 to strength or wisdom and a couple of ranks back and forth (minor changes in general) and the character is finally ready ;)
Jin Goei |
@Jin: That sounds interesting. How are you enjoying Fly Free or Die?
It's da bomb. The PCs are built unlike anything in previous APs - no heroics, no chosen ones, just exhausted blue collar workers pushed to the edge.
The first couple of books have the space truckers PCs traveling the pact works and near space doing deliveries and pick ups of the most bizarre things imaginable, but in book 3, where we are at, the plot starts to kick in hard.
Facing the consequences of their choices seems to be one of the main themes of the AP.
Zharis |
Blah, not sure what I was thinking. I could have gone up to 4 people on the telepathy thing, sorry. I have another game where we just leveled to 2, so maybe that was in the back of my mind? No idea. Sorry though, for the mistake. Should still be fine, but you know.

This were-crocodile will be away for the next 36 hours or so to go on, of all things, a hot air balloon. Fingers crossed that what goes up comes down in one piece!
Pictures or it didn't happen!
Zharis |
Have fun. I've always wanted to try that. :)

GM Jhaeman is alive . . . ALIVE!
It actually wasn't nearly as scary as I thought it might be. Granted, the balloon only went up to about 1,500 feet and moved at about 6 km/hour. It was nice, though I probably wouldn't feel an urge to do it again unless it would be over some really spectacular scenery (as opposed to farmland).
Tulgram Coldforge |
I also had my first balloon flight experience this summer. While we were taking off, it was exciting - I'm a little afraid of heights - but then I just got used to it and enjoyed the flight and the beauty around. I absolutely agree with your conclusion - only some very special place for flights can make me repeat it.
Tulgram Coldforge |
By the way, I studied the question of how Google works in Starfinder. Perhaps everyone understood this except me... But I decided to share it anyway.
1) As far as I understand, only a special archetype allows us to do knowledge checks with computers skill - even for collecting information on the network. For everyone else, this is literally a check of the knowledge that is usually needed, even if it is done through the infosphere.
2) If we have 2 minutes and we are connected to infosphere, we can always take 20 on check to recall knowledge:
You can use certain skills to recall knowledge about specific topics... You can take 20 on this check, but only if you have a means of researching, such as access to an information network or downloaded data set; this typically takes 2 minutes.
This completely changes the approach to knowledge relative to what is familiar to us in the Pathfinder (20 on knowledge is always an option, while we are in civilization and not in hurry), but makes it much more logical. Literally, even in our world, if we understand the basics and are not limited in time, we can google the answer to any question, as long as it is not a secret hidden by someone (I wanted to write also 'or it is not prohibited by law', but I thought about the darknet next).
Tulgram Coldforge |
Thanks for the explanation ;)

The Vestrani use “chips” as currency in their casino; these chips are stored on proprietary devices similar to credsticks that glow different colors depending on their denomination, and can be upgraded in value. (I've placed a pic on the slide with the map.)
PCs can purchase chips, with each chip costing 1 credit but each transaction has a 10% fee (with a maximum fee of 100 credits) to encourage visitors to buy more chips up front so the fee is a smaller percentage.
The chips can be used for gambling, buying meals and services (like hotel rooms), and any other transaction within the casino.
Chips can be exchanged back for credits but such transactions have a 10% fee.
Chips taken outside the casino have no particular value in Verdeon, though it's possible you might be able to find someone to buy them (though you'd probably take a hefty loss).
Xylian Xuuvats |
We're all broke so I think the house loses this one.
Zharis |
We're not all broke, and we have stuff to sell so no one has to be, but my worry is that we just don't know the situation yet... but if everyone wants to start gambling, I am sure that any decent casino will also either be able to offer fair trade value for the seeds we just picked up, or tell us where we can go to trade them in for credits.
Xylian Xuuvats |
So do all these games look mostly heavily luck based?
Xylian isn't really the "leave it up to chance" kind of damai.
Zharis |
Well, I mean, that's what gambling is... if there is no element of chance, then there is no gamble. But of course some skill comes into play in things like poker at least. Maybe you could take some time and try to learn the other players' tells, and even if not, you might be able to bring skill into it when deciding when to bluff and when to fold, etc. ... I mean, I have no idea if the actual game in the casino is similar enough, but cards aren't normally *pure* luck.
Xylian Xuuvats |

Ah yes, social skills. Xylian's forte.
Is there like a security console Xylian could hack to, I dunno, download security camera footage or a guest list or something? Remote hacking is level 5, so Xylian would have to be able to get to the terminal or whatever.
GM Jhaeman |
That fish tank story is awesome!
In terms of computers, many of the games have a tech-aided element, there's probably a terminal at Guest Services, and somewhere in this big complex there's a security office monitoring all of the unobtrusive cameras and the like. Xylian would also know that anyone trying to hack into computers in a casino run by a criminal syndicate better be *really* good at it :)
Zharis |
Criminal Syndicate? Yikes.
GM Jhaeman |
I hope folks are having fun with the casino scenes, and not getting frustrated that Lurian hasn't been spotted. My non-spoilerly advice is to get together and try to think up a good plan for finding her. If you imagine a big Las Vegas casino on the strip with hundreds or thousands of people going in and out, it's *possible* you could just run into someone you're looking for (and the adventure does take possibility into account), but your odds would be low. I guess, on the flip-side, you're also not on a timer, and patience can be a virtue.
