Klaus will accept the life bubble unless it's too late.
Inga's eyes light up when she sees the helmet.
"It's beautiful.
Does someone need to step into the water to retrieve the helmet?
Inga casts detect magic on the helm.
If all seems fine, she continues...
"Klaus, would you mind retrieving the helm? I don't think anyone wants to get their clothes wet."
Klaus gives Inga a glare.
"Oh, come on, Klaus. Don't tell me you're still afraid of water. We're not on a boat at sea. It's just a small font. It looks quite shallow."
"Ugh. Fine."
He growls.
Klaus hesitantly wades into the font to retrieve the helm and hands it to the nearest party member.
Inga pulls out a scroll of object reading.
"I want to make sure this is the real thing."

Lorian watched as the group quickly made its way to the font. Looking over the room with the remains, he composed a tale of the valiant defenders, scanning the remains for any heraldic devices in order to personalize the ode.

Perc(Leinad): 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (7) + 4 = 11
Glancing quickly around the deserted room, Leinad proceeds after Inge and Rallas into the mud room, absentmindedly trying to recall the words to detect magic, and stops cold at the charnel scene. He clutches his elk bow for support, kneeling down beside the first 'stack' of limbs, touching them hesitantly, the words of a simple prayer on his lips.
Kn(Rel): 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (10) + 2 = 12
"This.. this is..." he whispers, then shakes his head before scanning the rest of the room for evil, hoping to find some.

GM Nowruz |

Many items detect as magical in the room although all of this room clearly seems magical.
~ ~ UPDATE ~ ~
Most of the items in the chamber are ruined, but a thorough, if disgusting, search of the heaps reveals 750 gp worth of holy symbols and jewelry, a +2 scimitar with a pearl studded hilt, and 1,500 gp. In addition you also discover a suit of +2 rallying field plate.
~ ~
Although Klaus tries to remove the helmet he is not successful.
The font holds the helmet at its center. If any of you attempt to remove the helmet, you find that it is magically bound to the spot. A tangle of ethereal vines materialize briefly around the helmet, clutching it in place.
The helmet has remained here since the Shining Crusade and cannot be moved by normal means it seems.

GM Nowruz |

Ajax searches the room and discovers a leather-bound tome written in Celestial that details a cleansing ritual used by the clerics of the Bastion of Light during the Shining Crusade.
When you flip through the tome, you know: By reading the text in the tome and spending 10 minutes executing the ritual, all participating PCs gain a +3 sacred bonus to AC and on all saving throws for the next 24 hours.
~
Ajax also realizes that some sort of ritual has bound the helmet to the font, and that it might be possible to remove the helmet by completing the ritual or desecrating the font.
Based on your joint wisdom, you think that desecrating the font can be accomplished by tainting its waters with some of the heaped remains in the room or any other means that would render the water undrinkable.
You could also just hack into the font!
You can also attempt to destroy the font, which has hardness 8 and 120 hit points.
~
You also realize that unbinding the helmet from the font without destroying it requires a few steps.
A PC must succeed at a DC 20 Knowledge (religion) or DC 25 Disable Device check to begin unraveling the vines. Then someone must succeed at a DC 25 Disable Device or a DC 23 Knowledge (history) or Knowledge (religion) check to recall or discover the fail-safe woven into the ritual, which takes 10 uninterrupted minutes.

Hmm...I might be able to free the helm...and not damage it in the process...might take me a while...stand back...just in cse... he says evenly as he eyes the helm from all angles. He takes a breath and gets out his toolds and uses his wayfinder for a bit of luck.

Lorian started to clap as the helmet started to rise out of the water. When it surfaced, he gently picked it up and handed it to Elby for safe keeping. "The dawn brings new light" he said solemnly.
"So, we have what we came for. The problem is the beast outside remains. Let us finish clearing this place out and see what we can do to free this area of its threats." he said to the group.

Elby examined the helmet, unsure if she should be the one holding this treasure. Partially because she needs two hands to fight and partially because she feesl she could not possibly be worthy to wear it.
Knowledge: Religion LOL: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (7) + 2 = 9

GM Nowruz |

When Elby and Lorian touch the helmet they feel a connection ... a deep feeling of motherly warmth.
It is almost as if an invisible divine being ... maybe Sarenrae herself is touching their faces.
But Elby and Lorian also feels the beast ... they feel the Reaver's connection to the font and the helmet ... and this connection is clearly weakening!

![]() |

Lorian smiled as the feeling of warmth flowed over him, a pleasure having served the Dawnflower in Taldor, where areas still ban her following. "I feel that we are weakening the beast, let us keep at it." he said with a smile.

So much happened while I was sleeping that Inga never got to say anything. I'll work on my post during work today.
@Elby: Inga gave you those two ioun stones for the adventure. You're cool with that, right?

After, he meditates with some crystals and then uses a wand to help translate the divine text in the tome. Excited by the ritual within, he asks, "Should we perform this rite? We should shouldn't we? To bind us stronger to the shrine in place of the beast?"

[b]Any edge we can get on that thing is a good one...I think we should check around...perhaps there are some texts that might give us some insight into the helmet.

"This tome will give us holy protective energy. We should definitely perform the ritual before leaving this room."

GM Nowruz |

You decide to read all the details provided in the leather-bound tome written in Celestial.
You almost feel that the cleansing ritual you perform connects you with Sarenrae ... especially Elby and Lorian can almost see the past lives of all those clerics in the Bastion of Light during the Shining Crusade in front of their eyes.
All participating PCs gain a +3 sacred bonus to AC and on all saving throws for the next 24 hours.

I certainly feel the holy power...perhaps I should look into becoming a servant of Sarenrae... Rallas ponders aloud as he heads to the door to the south.

Ajax informs the others and whispers, "I should think we can settle this without blood shed, though I do not know what judgment is befitting."

"That would be preferable, though I am prepared should battle ensue."

"Agreed, let's do all we can for peace. However, we can be prepared," says Leinad, and gathers five pieces of ammunition from each, ten from Ajax and Rallas, and casts Daybreak Arrow on them before redistributing, retaining his own fifteen. "These should dazzle orcs, and very much hurt any undead creatures we run into."

"Might I give it a shot?" Lorian asked as he made his way to the door. "I have a feeling that they are trapped here in the temple and would be happy to get out. I hope one them understands the trade tongue. Elby, stand by me please so if there is any translating needed it would be better coming from you. Let me guess, the word "Parley" does not exist in the orc language." he said with a sigh as he took off his rapier and rested it next to the door.
Opening the door, he kept his hands out in the open. Sorry to disturb you but I have a feeling that you are trapped here like we are because of the Red Beast. Is that correct? Maybe we can work together?" Lorian said, as he started the diplomatic process.

You enter the next room and except of filth and dirt and some blood on the floor it is empty and no magical auras are visible.
The same is true for the next room.
The third room you open is empty as well except of the fact that blood spatters are visible everywhere and the ripped off arm of an orc lies in the middle of the room.

Making his way into the room and finding that it was empty, Lorian waited for the others to join. Repeating the process, part of him was happy that no one attacked, but not finding anyone else, he was hoping that they would find some allies to happy fight the Red Beast. "Well, looks like no one is here, so far" he said.
Lorian shook his head at the mess, trying to determine what happened in the room.

Leinad shudders at the sight, doing a quick scan with detect evil, then motioning at the far door, "I believe from the map that leads to backsta.. er.. the large chamber rear of the altar, with stairs and a fountain. You check the next door for traps and Klaus looks through door but sees nothing of importance.
A2
You see a short hall containing a rickety floor. To the north of these hallways are sets of old staircases, collapsed from years of neglect and disuse.
Over the years the floorboards in the hallway have begun to rot and warp.
Now loose in many places, the rusting nails squeak loudly against the wood when stepped on in this room.
Strange fungus grows on the walls in large bulbs, and the air inside the hall smells of acrid mildew for Leinad who is the only one that does not have the bubble up.
Please make a knowledge nature check.

Inga stops the group before going any further.
"Before going any further, did we check the large altar in the main cathedral area? We found the large trap, but, I don't think any of us have checked the altar. There might be some useful items. I could have Klaus go check really quick."

Ajax can only smile on the rickety floor. "The gods are testing us."

Taking a deep whiff, Leinad shakes his head, "Smells like a closet by the docks in Rego Cader in here. I imagine it would be safe enough for someone as light as I am. If you don't find a trap or structural defect, I'll be happy to take the rope across."
He twists his head observing the bulbous fungus, trying to get a sense of the size of them and if they would go well on a salad, as he calls back, "I looked at the altar Miss Blücher, though I may have been a bit distracted."

Klaus the Phantom |

If the rest of the party doesn't object, Klaus will go with Rallas to do a quick search of the altar if it wasn't included in the perception checks from earlier. Inga reminds everyone of her constant bonded senses with Klaus in case there is trouble.
"Ha! Those were good times, my friend."
Klaus gives Rallas a hearty pat on the shoulder as he follows him back into the main temple. He inspects the large altar with the elf, looking for anything of interest.

Ajax immediately realizes that the inner walls in the hall contain clusters of fungal blooms.
Stepping too close to these blooms causes their spore pods to explode which affects creatures in a 5-foot radius.
FUNGUS SPORE POD
PRICE 100 GP WEIGHT 1 LB.
A sticky, foul smelling pod from a strange fungus growing on the
walls of the Bastion of Light. When thrown, this pod explodes
on contact, releasing a cloud of poison spores in a 10-foot
radius that functions as an inhaled poison.
Fungal Spores: inhaled; save Fort DC 20; frequency 1/round for 6
rounds; effect 1d2 Con damage and fatigued for 1 minute; cure
2 saves.
Rallas looks at the pods and after Ajax explanation realizes that with some work (and a Disable Device check) he could harvest one of these spore pods for use as a thrown weapon; and he assumes that he could harvest spores up to a total of six times. But failure would mean exposure!
You have not entered the room, yet. If anybody goes in then please state that explicitly.

"Rallas, my life bubble should protect you in harvesting those spores. They could be quite helpful against the reaver."
Did the K. Engineering 22 reveal anything about the floor?

Fair enough...can never have too many tools at your disposal...hmm...I wonder if you could fix one of those on an arrow...might be a tricky way to use them... the elf says as he sets about to harvest the pods.
