What Tier are we in?: 4 + 2 + 3 + 3 + 2 + 2 = 16
16 CP with 6 players for a season 1 scenario means we are in Low-Tier with 6 player adjustment and 1 level bump for the adventure.
Apollo Fireborn |
Just a few questions for our GM:
Sounds like we still need 2 more distractions to help Eando, yes? But he already gave us our mission, so are they still necessary? And do we know if Diplomacy is the only skill we can use to distract Glorina?
GM NovelEnigma |
Just posted the other skills; however distracting the NPCs for extra successes is completely optional. Doing so gives you small bonuses, such as the healing potion from Calisro.

I always thought it felt kind of awkward to do the whole "distract the NPC thing," so I've tried to frame it a bit more realistically. I hope you're enjoying it.

GM NovelEnigma wrote:That's actually a success in low-tier.Yeah. I'm pretty much assuming anything less than an 18 is a failure.
You're in low-tier with a level bump so the DC is only 16 for non-diplomacy skills
GM NovelEnigma |
@Atae, your goal isn't to impress the faction leaders; it's to get their missions. You have the option of impressing/distracting the other NPCs they are taking to in order to gain bonuses.
In this permutation of 1-01, Calisro was in conversation with Aaqir, so you had to distract Aaqir in order to gain a bonus from Calisro. However, your party achieved enough successes to do so, which caused Calisro to give you a lesser healing potion as a bonus.
GM NovelEnigma |
It is only one potion, but don't forget your free school items once the actual missions begin.
GM NovelEnigma |
No, sorry. I can have her join in on some conversations if you'd like, but I'd be improving anything for her as the scenario actually gives 0 dialogue for the faction leaders. The only thing it gives you is the missions as a block of information, but no dialogue to read/copy-paste.
This section is meant to be pretty quick as it just gives you the four missions you actually need to spend the rest of the time working on. In a standard four-hour block, this part should probably take less than a full hour.
Apollo Fireborn |
The cleric will attempt to impress the head of her faction with her knowledge of the Horizon Walkers.
@Atae, just to be clear, this is Fola Barun, the leader of the Envoys' Alliance. Your faction leader is Calisro Benarry of the Horizon Hunters.
Actually, looking at the Recruitment page, Atae is representing Envoy's Alliance, so Fola Barun is her faction leader.
In any event, to summarize where we are so far:
o Missions: We have received 3 of the 4 -- still have to speak with Gorm Greathammer of the Grand Archive.
o Distractions/Bonuses: We've managed to distract 2 of the 4 so far. We probably need 1 (?) more success with Kreighton Shane. Looks like Elfino and Atae succeeded. Hooray for them! Apollo sadly failed with his Fortune-Telling. :(
Itka, Roddy, or Veecs can try with Occult, Society or some unusual Lore. If we get 1 more success, we can get our bonus and move on to Gorm Greathammer.
GM NovelEnigma |
Oh, you're right. I was just looking at their little symbol next to their name which is the Horizon Hunters icon.
Atae, do you want me to report this scenario as Horizon Hunters as your symbol shows or Envoy's Alliance as you signed up with? Either is fine with me, just want to make sure I report the faction you want to represent.
Apollo Fireborn |
@Itka -- We can use any unusual Lore to distract Kreighton Shane. Looks like you have +8 in Shadow Plane Lore. That's definitely unusual and sounds perfect if you wanna try that to get our last team bonus....
Elfino |
In a few short hours I will be catching the first of several flights that will return me to the good ol’ USA. If all goes well the whole thing will take about 28 hours door-to-door. I’ll try to check up on things during my layovers, but if you don’t hear anything from me, you’ll know why.
Elfino |
I live in Spain these days but usually make it back to the US for a visit this time every year (not last year though, because Covid). I’m actually posting this from the airport as I wait for my flight to board.

Me encanta Espana. Mis raices vienen de esa pais. Estuve parte del verano de ano dos mil trabajando con las misioneras de la caridad en Madrid. Tambien estuve en Fatima y Santiago, Avila, Alba de Tormes y Segovia.

Since Atae (with her cleric/wizard combo), can use any of the 3 scrolls, I propose Atae gets to choose ... mainly just to keep things moving, and not spending a real-time day going back and forth, voting, etc.
So that's kind of why Apollo looked to Atae to make the decision.
The only other question is: Which mission first? If anyone has a preference, post in Gameplay. Whoever posts first can probably have their choice. If not, maybe just go with the order the GM listed them:
◆ Investigate the monster on the ship in the Floatsam Graveyard
◆ Unpetrify the whistleblower in Westgate
◆ Recover the remains of a Pathfinder relative from a haunted house in the Precipice Quarter
◆ Make copies of the Nidal scrolls in the Petals District
GM NovelEnigma |
I plan to go in order unless anyone voices a preference. It doesn't make a difference in the grand scheme of things in which order they are done, and you need to go to all four locations to complete the scenario.
Itka Biklest |

My apologies for missing all of this discussion. For some reason, Paizo wasn't notifying me of any action in this thread. I had mentioned at that start that Itka wanted to speak to Kreighton Shane about the Shadow Plane, but had a memory lapse when I last posted. (It's been a busy week.) I'll have Itka work her way back to him before the end of the party.
GM NovelEnigma |
No problem; go ahead and roll a check somewhere and I'll swing you back over before you all head out.
Apollo Fireborn |
am I the only arcane caster
I think so. Based on character links:
Arcane: Atae
Divine: Apollo, Atae
Occult: Itka
Primal: (none)
Of the 3 scrolls:
Disrupting Weapons (extra 1d4 to weapon damages): Divine
Heal: Divine, Primal
Magic Missile: Arcane, Occult
I still think Atae should pick her favorite and go with it. Unless Itka really has her heart set on Magic Missile.
Itka Biklest |
Nah. Atae can have her choice. Itka has other plans.
Her school item is a scroll of Mage Armor.
Elfino |
The following are FYIs for some of Elfino's abilities.
Elfino has the That's Odd feat that reads in part: When you enter a new location, such as a room or corridor, you immediately notice one thing out of the ordinary. The GM determines what it is, or whether there's nothing reasonable to pick up, skipping obvious clues that can be easily noticed without a check or specifically looking for them.
Elfino also has the Clue In ability. It is a reaction triggered by: Another creature attempts a check to investigate a lead you're pursuing, and which reads in part: You share information with the triggering creature. They gain a circumstance bonus to their check equal to your circumstance bonus to checks investigating your subject from Pursue a Lead. He can use it once per 10 minutes.
The first reminder is for the GM since we're about to start digging through a shipwreck. The second reminder is for the other players in case they wish to pick up a quick +1 on skill checks about one of Elfino's leads.

They are going to have to start putting "That's Odd:" entries in all the scenarios starting in season 3.
Apollo Fireborn |
I think someone else who can use the heal scroll should hafve it in case Atae goes down.
What Heal scroll? Do you mean the one Gorm Greathammer offered us? He offered us a choice of 3: Heal, Disrupting Weapons, Magic Missile. And Atae chose Magic Missile, right?
I believe we also received a Lesser Healing potion. One of the level 1s should probably carry that.
If Atae goes down, Apollo (a divine caster) can cast Heal.
Elfino |
What is the ability associated with Gather Information? Is it still CHA?
Fundamentally, yes. Gather Information is an untrained action requiring a secret Diplomacy roll against a DC set by the GM.
Apollo Fireborn |
The mob is being led by an Acolyte of Calistria, a smith, a drunkard, an actor, and a socialite.
The turn description included dialog from the Acolyte, Smith, and Socialite. And the map seems to have those 3 clearly marked as well. Just wanna make sure I'm not missing anything with regard to the Drunkard and the Actor. Or maybe they're assumed to be part of the mob?
Also, since we're here, do the PCs need to work out which of us actually has the Salve of Anti-Paralysis? If so, does anyone wish to carry it and apply it?
GM NovelEnigma |
I didn't give the drunkard or the actor dialogue mostly because I forgot to add those extra two NPCs in at first (it is normally 4, but there is 1 more per player above 4). I'll add them onto the map, but it's possible to avoid combat here altogether.
You don't need to work out which of you has the Salve; whoever wants to use it can assume they have it.
GM NovelEnigma |
History Lesson: The eponymous statues of Statue Street are the remnants of a longstanding Absalomian tradition: to prevent overcrowding in the city’s prisons, nonviolent offenders were allowed to compete for a pardon in a race to outrun an angry gorgon along these streets. Those who successfully outpaced the beast were allowed to go free; those less fortunate now line the streets as bizarre decor. The ethics of the practice are dubious at best, and it was recently outlawed. Still, there are some who are upset to lose this tradition, and at the news that one of the condemned might be allowed to go free, a group of rabble-rousers has riled up a mob of locals who can’t bear to see outsiders interfere with seven centuries of history.
The scenario doesn't list knowledge checks or imply that anyone tells you the background of Statue Street, so I guess it's assumed you know this information.
Elfino |
I forgot there was a map involved. I've moved Elfino forward a bit to put him close enough to shout at the smith.
