GM Watery Soup |
"Why are you taking Andoran prisoners?"
A voice calls back, "The enslavement of lesser ancestries is the natural order of the world. Surrender to us, and we will assign you to a less dangerous mine to work out the rest of your days."
---
I'm going to interpret Endra's request as a delay until Jaune or Signet move up.
Signet lights a torch! I've replaced the shaded areas with just an outline - a yellow one for Jaune and a carnelian one for Signet.
Luz takes cover.
Crossbow: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (18) + 7 = 25 vs greater cover
Piercing: 1d8 ⇒ 1
A crossbow bolt whizzes by Hancock's head, nicking his ear.
Round 1/2: The bolded may act!
Jaune (NV / light)
Endra (LLV)
Red Duergar (unobserved to all)
Signet (NV)
Luz (NV)
Blue Duergar (unobserved to J/E/S/L)
Hancock (DV) (-1 hp)
The Carnelian Signet |
Issil laughs. Reminds me of some of my relatives.
"You remind me of some of my former associates. Emphasis on former. Now come here so I can spank you silly!"
Hancock the Angry |
The crossbow bolt finally jolts him into action.
"Cmen getim! Twovem, but 1 hidin."
Though he does not say much he points vigorously at the duerger that just shot at him.
◆ Point
◆◆ Double stride
Endra Densinri |
I assume I'll need an action to retrieve the F&S and another to actually light it.
And another to stow it again and free up that hand, so Produce Flame seems like a win.
Endra strides to the edge of Carnelian's torchlight, pulls down her bow, and peers into the darkness toward the Duergar.
◆ Stride 25'
◆ Interact: draw longbow
◆ Seek for any foe to target
Jaune Bolten III |
"Races, ancestries, your mother dearest. The only thing natural will be your imminent demise," the bard quipped back after hearing Hancock's exchange. He'd quickly move forward, thinking up an old song to work on his compatriots.
"A friend of a friend, there is a friend all around. We marry, we brave, we few."
Action 1: Move up
Action 2: Cast Guidance on Endra
GM Watery Soup |
Jaune moves up, and his torch now illuminates the front half of the platform with dim light. The Red duergar is still nowhere to be seen.
Hancock charges forward, Pointing Out the Blue duergar.
Endra Seeks.
Perception: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (10) + 6 = 16
Endra sees some movement suggesting Red hasn't moved. Weapons are assumed to be out, revising third action to Point Out.
Red reappears as two vials fly at Hancock.
Bomb: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (10) + 8 = 18 vs flat footed
Fire: 1d8 ⇒ 3 plus 1 splash fire plus 1 persistent fire
Bomb, MAP: 1d20 + 8 - 5 ⇒ (7) + 8 - 5 = 10
Fire: 1d8 ⇒ 6 plus 1 splash fire plus 1 persistent fire
Fire splashes all around Hancock. The duergar draws a warhammer.
Round 2: The bolded may act!
Jaune (NV / light)
Endra (LLV)
Red Duergar (concealed to J/S/L)
Signet (NV / light)
Luz (NV)
Blue Duergar (unobserved to J/E/S/L)
Hancock (DV) (-6 hp, 1 persistent fire)
Endra Densinri |
Weapons are assumed to be out, revising third action to Point Out.
Makes sense, thanks!
The Carnelian Signet |
Issil watches Hancock bravely advance before getting firebombed. She Strides twice and finally sees her foes: two gray dwarves with terrible fashion sense!
She raises her magical Shield in defense. "Ah, there you are! Now we can end this foolish dance."
◆ Stride
◆ Stride
◆ Cast Shield. AC is now 18. Will use Shield Block if hit.
GM Watery Soup |
As Signet moves within 20' of the duergar, something interesting happens. The duergar use their hands to shield their faces, clearly bothered by the light.
Round 2: The bolded may act!
Jaune (NV / light)
Endra (LLV)
Red Duergar (observed by all, blind)
Signet (NV / light)
Luz (NV)
Blue Duergar (observed by all, blind)
Hancock (DV) (-6 hp, 1 persistent fire)
GM Watery Soup |
It's a little late now, but I've added the 40' emanations with dotted lines to show the boundaries of dim light.
Luz Lumino |
Luz comes around the corner, but can't see much. Once again, he takes cover against the rocks and continues his conversation.
"A less dangerous mine? I suppose from your perspective that is a more than generous offer. What type of career advancement opportunities would there be? I suppose I could learn to to motivate others to do what they are told. Would that be useful?"
GM Watery Soup |
Luz creeps up.
"A less dangerous mine? I suppose from your perspective that is a more than generous offer. What type of career advancement opportunities would there be? I suppose I could learn to to motivate others to do what they are told. Would that be useful?"
"No, that wouldn't be useful. On second thought, we'll just kill you."
---
The Blue duergar shoots his crossbow at the last place he saw Signet.
Flat Check, DC 11: 1d20 ⇒ 20
Crossbow: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (1) + 8 = 9
Piercing: 1d8 ⇒ 1
lol "I know exactly where she is, and totally miss."
Round 2/3: The bolded may act! Delaying the Red duergar so that everyone acts in a block. This will speed things along.
Jaune (NV / light)
Endra (LLV)
Signet (NV / light)
Luz (NV)
Red Duergar (observed by all, blind)
Blue Duergar (observed by all, blind)
Hancock (DV) (-6 hp, 1 persistent fire)
Endra Densinri |
Light! Endra exclaims as she now confidently sprints further into the room, using the two circles of light as a sort of bridge. Coming out of the tight passage she slides to the left, absent-mindedly retrieving and nocking an arrow in her blow.
◆ Stride: 25'
◆ Point-blank Shot (stance)
◆ Strike red
longbow attack RED, P damage: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (14) + 9 = 231d8 ⇒ 5
The Carnelian Signet |
"Finally, we can stop this farce of a parley." The Carnelian Signet laughs as a crossbow bolt flies past her knee. "Now, burn." She produces a ball of flame at the edge of her whip and cracks it towards the Druegar wearing Red.
Spell Attack: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (6) + 7 = 13
Fire: 1d4 + 4 ⇒ (2) + 4 = 6
◆◆ Cast Produce Flame against Red
GM, can we walk up onto the raised platform, or do we need an Athletics check or the like? I'm holding a whip in one hand and a torch in the other, so if I need to use my hands to climb I'll just stay put and defend myself.
◆ Stride to the indicated spot on the map using the Red arrow. East 5ft, North 10ft and Up 5ft.
Hancock the Angry |
Hancock enters the barbarian's rage. He no longer slouches and the maul comes out as he rushes towards the duerger in the back.
stride, attack, attack
to hit Maul: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (10) + 6 = 16
damage Maul: 1d12 + 8 ⇒ (2) + 8 = 10 {bludgeoning, 4 damage has electrical, arcane, and evocation traits}
to hit Maul: 1d20 + 6 - 5 ⇒ (3) + 6 - 5 = 4 {I think the second attack is at -5, right?}
damage Maul: 1d12 + 8 ⇒ (7) + 8 = 15 {bludgeoning, 4 damage has electrical, arcane, and evocation traits}
He takes a little fire damage but barely feels it in his rage (3 temp HP).
GM Watery Soup |
Endra moves up and puts an arrow into Red.
Signet moves all the way up, but misses with her flame. No Athletics check needed, but moving up is difficult terrain - you got that in your movement tracker, so you're all good.
Hancock rushes the duergar in the back and hits it. 1. Corrected your hit points. You will take 1 damage from the persistent fire, please make a flat check. 2. The second attack is indeed at -5. 3. While it won't matter in this combat, please separate the different damage types - resistances and weaknesses are much more common in PF2 than PF1, so "1d10+4 bludgeoning plus 4 electric" is easier to adjudicate.
Round 2/3: The bolded may act!
Jaune (NV / light)
Endra (LLV)
Signet (NV / light)
Luz (NV)
Red Duergar (observed by all, blind, -5 hp)
Blue Duergar (observed by all, blind, -10 hp)
Hancock (DV) (-4 hp, 1 persistent fire, DC 15 flat check)
Jaune Bolten III |
"Time for a bit more music here," the bard spoke as he moved forward, clearing his throat as he began to summon up more magic. The song in particular was one he knew well in particular by heart
"Ooooooo' Cayden Calien went in to town, Absalom be its name. Drunken merriment sure did follow, and kissing every dame."
"And then one honeyed word even lass, hair so beautifully fair. She would put him up to a drunken task, a rather one challenging dare...."
The song appeared to be a retelling of some kind of the ascension of Cayden Calien. Predictably, it was raunchy and full of innuendo as he went on that would probably make a Calistrian blush. However, it would do the work as those of his allies would feel rather.... inspired.
First Action: Move forward 15'
Second Action: Casting of Inspire Courage and adding the effect of Lingering Composition. Not sure if I need to roll for performance it does say that if crits then it lasts 4 instead of 3 rounds.
0/2 FP
+1 status bonus to attack rolls, damage rolls, and saves against fear effects with 60' radius
Performance: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (17) + 7 = 24
GM Watery Soup |
Yes, you do need to roll for Performance. The DC is a level-based DC, so DC 15 for Level 1. You succeed (3 rounds), but do not crit (4 rounds).
Round 2/3: The bolded may act!
Inspire Courage (+1 attack, +1 damage) 0/3
Jaune (NV / light) 1 action remaining
Endra (LLV)
Signet (NV / light)
Luz (NV)
Red Duergar (observed by all, blind, -5 hp)
Blue Duergar (observed by all, blind, -10 hp)
Hancock (DV) (-4 hp, 1 persistent fire, DC 15 flat check)
Luz Lumino |
Luz advances, taking cover behind a stalagmite.
"Now hold on a minute. You just said that you need mine workers. Let us try and keep in mind the end goal, here. If duergar are the superior race, then how will you have time to rule if you are all working in the mines? It would seem prudent for you to leave the mine working to others. Would you not agree?"
Hancock the Angry |
Assuming a flat check is a simple d20...
flat check: 1d20 ⇒ 10
Hancock did not start raging until after he was hit, this turn, so it is only going to reduce damage starting with the 1 point of fire he took.
GM Watery Soup |
Hancock did not start raging until after he was hit, this turn, so it is only going to reduce damage starting with the 1 point of fire he took.
Where is the damage reduction coming from? Raging Resistance is 9th level.
---
Jaune, if you want to retcon a 1-action spell, that's fine.
The duergar shake off the blindness, although they are still squinting. Red lobs another acid bomb at Signet and then backs off the platform, hiding.
Bomb: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (17) + 8 = 25
Acid: 1 = 1 plus 1 splash acid plus 1d6 persistent acid Hancock will get splashed, too.
Blue backs off and turns around to shoot his crossbow at Hancock.
Crossbow: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (10) + 7 = 17
Piercing: 1d8 ⇒ 4
Round 3/4: The bolded may act!
Inspire Courage (+1 attack, +1 damage) 1/3
Jaune (NV / light)
Endra (LLV)
Signet (NV / light) (-2 hp, 1d6 persistent acid, DC 15 flat check)
Luz (NV)
Red Duergar (observed by all, -5 hp)
Blue Duergar (observed by all, -10 hp)
Hancock (DV) (-9 hp, 1 persistent fire, DC 15 flat check)
Hancock the Angry |
Where is the damage reduction coming from? Raging Resistance is 9th level.
-
He's got 3 temp HP from rage
1 DR from the breastplate which is in the plate group, but only against slashing
Does he need to make another flat check at the beginning of each round so that he is not on fire? What is the action to put out the fire?
GM Watery Soup |
I've already incorporated your 3 temp HP: crossbow -1, fire plus splash -4, fire splash -1, persistent -1, temp +3, acid splash -1, crossbow -4 = -9 hp total.
Armor doesn't give the Armor Specialization effects until much later. I'm not sure barbarian ever gets it - champions get it at 7th level, and I believe they're the first class to get it.
Yes, at the end of every turn, you will take the persistent damage, and then you make a flat check to see if it stops. You can use two actions to lower the DC by 5, so for a normal persistent damage check, from 15 to 10. You can automatically end the persistent with some action wider in scope, such as jumping into a lake, but that's going to come up less frequently - most of the time, you'll need to hit a flat check of some kind.
Endra Densinri |
Endra's delicate fingers draw three arrows from her quiver as her eyes remain locked on the same dwarf. She braces two of them in her mouth while she gets to work with the first...
◆ Strike red
longbow attack RED, P damage: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (1) + 9 = 101d8 ⇒ 8
Ouch, that as good a time as any for a hero point...
longbow attack RED: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (14) + 9 = 23
◆ Strike red
longbow attack RED, P damage: 1d20 + 9 - 5 ⇒ (14) + 9 - 5 = 181d8 ⇒ 4
◆ Strike red
longbow attack RED, P damage: 1d20 + 9 - 10 ⇒ (2) + 9 - 10 = 11d8 ⇒ 4
If RED goes down shift attacks to blue.
The Carnelian Signet |
"My favorite brooch!" Issil quickly wipes the acid off, before realizing how much it burns. "Don't run, come here!" She circles the platform to find the druegar in Red.
Her whip bursts into flame as she lashes out.
Spell Attack, Inspire Courage: 1d20 + 7 + 1 ⇒ (8) + 7 + 1 = 16
Fire, Inspire Courage: 1d4 + 4 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 4 + 1 = 7
Flat Check: 1d20 ⇒ 8
The acid keeps stinging, but her zeal burns strong.
◆ Stride
◆◆ Cast Produce Flame against Red
◇ Flat Check to end persistent damage
GM Watery Soup |
Endra's first shot looks like it's about to miss, but then swerves at the last second and hits the duergar in the neck. A second shot also hits, but the duergar still stands.
Signet shoots a bolt of flame, but it goes wide.
Acid: 1d6 ⇒ 1
Signet continues to sizzle. Just so nobody's surprised if it matters later, the persistent damage happens before the flat check, so if you want, you can roll the persistent damage yourself and apply it before the flat check.
Round 3/4: The bolded may act!
Inspire Courage (+1 attack, +1 damage) 1/3
Jaune (NV / light)
Endra (LLV)
Signet (NV / light) (-3 hp, 1d6 persistent acid)
Luz (NV)
Red Duergar (observed by all, -17 hp)
Blue Duergar (observed by E/H, concealed to J/S/L, -10 hp)
Hancock (DV) (-9 hp, 1 persistent fire, DC 15 flat check)
Luz Lumino |
Luz spies one of the duergar in the dim light and devises a stratagem
DaS: 1d20 ⇒ 6
Not having a clear shot, Luz steps a bit closer and continues his verbal assault
"Hello? Are you still there or does a lesser species have your tongue? It is hard to imagine you are the superior race if you cannot maintain a simple conversation."
Demoralize: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (5) + 4 = 9
Hancock the Angry |
flat check to stop burning: 1d20 ⇒ 11
"Not a chance squirmy foe"
Hancock chases after blue and attempts to put an end to his game of hide and seek, still unconcerned about the flames licking up his arm.
stride, sride, attack
Jaune Bolten III |
To Hit Red: 1d20 + 3 + 1 ⇒ (19) + 3 + 1 = 23
Damage: 1d8 ⇒ 5
To Hit Red 2: 1d20 + 3 + 1 - 5 ⇒ (20) + 3 + 1 - 5 = 19
Damage: 1d8 ⇒ 4
Deciding to add the lovely Signet, Jaune the bard rushes forward, clutching the magically lit rock in with the other his longsword. He'd slash and stab, hoping to put pressure on the fiendish slaver.
Hancock the Angry |
Forgot to add the inspire. Please add a +1/+1 to Hancock's attacks. Ironically, I think the bard forgot to add too, and he did the performance. So you have to ask, is it THAT bad?
Endra Densinri |
Forgot to add the inspire. Please add a +1/+1 to Hancock's attacks. Ironically, I think the bard forgot to add too, and he did the performance. So you have to ask, is it THAT bad?
Darnit, I keep leaving it off too
GM Watery Soup |
"Hello? Are you still there or does a lesser species have your tongue? It is hard to imagine you are the superior race if you cannot maintain a simple conversation."
Demoralize: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (5) + 4 = 9
"You skybreathers couldn't hit the side of a cave at this dist-"
Hancock runs up and smashes Blue's face in.
Jaune saunters up to Red, stunned at both the death of his friend as well as the bright light, and stabs the duergar twice, who also falls.
End of Combat!
A rallying cry echoes throughout the chamber as the Eagle Knights celebrate their victory.
With the duergar threat neutralized, the Eagle Knights and the Pathfinders are free to celebrate once they return to the surface. Lieutenant Evanno is particularly impressed with the Pathfinders’ feats, and offers them his personal set of Golden Legion epaulets in addition to Ghelib’s journal, to commemorate this day of alliance.
End of scenario! Feel free to continue roleplaying.
The Carnelian Signet |
"We can't hit a cave, but we can certainly hit you." The Signet laughs and hops off the platform. "The lesser races prevail yet again. Let's catch up to those knights, before we miss the after party!"
Issil Telfae |
Issil is a bit out of her element. She can schmooze with the nobles easily but she doesn't know how to address the other fighters. A bit frustrating but she'll learn eventually. One step at a time.
During the festivities, she approaches Juane and curtsies. "Issil Telfae, at your service." She does a quick spin before reaching out a hand. "Come, let's show these knights how to dance properly."
Performance: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (7) + 7 = 14
"My associate hastily wrote a report before running off. She said you shot a druegar slaver. How brave of you!" She grins, even as she loses her balance and takes a step to correct herself. She takes another swig of wine. "The fewer slavers the better."
Grandma's either smiling down on me or she's chasing those slavers in the afterlife. A wicked grin crosses Issil's face. We need to fix the stain Chileax authority left upon its citizens. We'll start with Juane here.
Jaune Bolten III |
After killing the Duergar flicked the blood off before grabbing a cloth from his pocket to wipe any left on. It seemed like there was no danger now, having taken the life from a being, regardless of their slaving enterprise. It still made him somewhat sick, repressing it down as the group would meet with the Andoran knights. He never got to say good bye to the Carnelian Signet as she left before he could even say a word wise to her.
That was of course once Issil, a woman of some resemblance but could hardly be the Signet in his own mind made her way to him, "Ah yes, a song and dance for the lovely madame.
Performance: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (6) + 7 = 13
He had put his blade back to it's scabbard, replacing it in his hands with a fine guitar of his, "Stabbed and cut I would say. They were simply opponents to the society and one's that needed to be gotten rid of for the better I'd add. Terrible business, tough necessary to weed out," he'd speak, playing his tune.
Endra Densinri |
As the celebration breaks out, Endra frowns and looks around.
But, what of captives, the enslaved? Are any nearby or had this patrol not taken any innocents yet?
She rushes to the Andorran knights to confirm their knowledge on this and whether they need to be looking around for any surfacers tied up in a dank corner of the tunnels somewhere.
Issil Telfae |
"We will find them all, Endra. But we can't do it all today." Issil twists to the side around Juane. "The druegar we captured will certainly tell us lesser beings everything we need to know."
"Or they will see the fire."
Hancock the Angry |
The fight over, Hancock returns to a slouch.
"Ptem inder place"
He gives the downed duerger a stiff shove for good measure and then loots the body. And if nobody loots the other duerger he loots that one too.
