Hi everyone, thanks for joining my PFS 2nd Edition game: 1-12 The Burden of Envy.
1. Please post at least once a day. If you are absent for 24 hours I'll send you a PM. If you're missing for 36 hours I'll mark you inactive and your Player Character will simply delay - that's not fun!
2. Under your name, please add a stat block, so I can quickly find your stats and keep the game moving. You can edit your character's Race, Class/Levels and Gender fields to include information such as:
- Hit Points
- AC
- Saving Throws
- Perception Bonus
3. What about Secret Rolls? PFS 2nd ed has a lot of secret rolls the GM is supposed to make for the players, so the PCs can't react to a bad roll. If I give you the DC, feel free to make the roll openly. Otherwise, there are 2 ways to do this in my games:
- You can say which skill and which bonus you want to apply. (Example: "I use Occultism +5 to investigate the skull's mystic origin.")
- Or you spoiler your dice roll and everyone sticks to the honor system of not opening it.
If you haven't added Pathfinder specific equipment, I suggest you look at the PFS 2 Society rules, in particular the Pathfinder Training section.
---
Once you have your character selected, please post this information:
Player name: (OPTIONAL. you, the person on Earth)
Character name: (the PC you are playing in Golarion)
XP:
Class:
Money: (usually written in GP)
Leveling Speed: (Normal or Slow?)

Day Job: (feel free to roll it. Also mention any feats that may impact your job roll.)
Perception Bonus:

Slotted Boons: (Optional, you can determine this after the mission briefing)

Not sure what the leveling speed would be... This is the first time I've been asked this. Is there a difference?
PFS School Items -- is that the stuff I would normally get per adventure? If so, then I would choose the minor healing potion

In the near future, the only block of days that I might have an issue would be 2-4 July. I'll be getting my 2nd vaccine shot and I've heard that's usually the one that knocks you down. Though even if I am sickened 1, I should still be able to crawl out of bed or use a laptop to post! :)

Turns out that option doesn't exist in 2e. Never mind.
PFS School Items -- is that the stuff I would normally get per adventure? If so, then I would choose the minor healing potion
This is an on-hand consumable resource you can use. You can see the options >>HERE<< but you can always default to a healing potion.

Thanks for the heads up. I drank a lot of water and went to bed early when I got my second shot; I was back to normal by lunchtime the next day. Hopefully you recover quickly!

Hope so too... The folks who I've spoken to had symptoms ranging from a sore arm to chills/fever on the second shot. I don't think retching will relieve the sickened 1 condition in this case :)

I got my 2nd shot on thursday and it was a breeze. A bit of muscle fever... -ish feeling in the location of the shot but that's about it. Remember to eat your veggies.

Everyone has at least dotted in, so we're ready to go. Apologies for the walls of text that start off this mission.
I've added your icons to slide 2. >>CLICK HERE<< and make sure you can move/edit them. I've put together 2 marching orders: A 1 per row and a 2 per row arrangement. Feel free to rearrange them accordingly, since I don't know how you want to play your character.

Hey @Deevor great to playing with you at another table
@UncleFroggy, @JasonRodarte - good to see you, and be in the player pool with you
@NotEspi, @Pelican - I don't think I met you, so hi. It is a pleasure
@GM - thanks for having me at your table! I had that scenario on my list and I am really eager to play it!
With regards to marching order, Makai is a melee Warpriest carrying a shield so I put her in front of the team. She has 2 heal spells from her low cha (go Dwarfs ;)) so don't go nuts

![]() |

Gotta say I'm looking forward to this adventure and playing with a couple of friends from the boards, namely Farol, JasonRodate and NotEspi again. Not sure if I've played with Pelican before, but I know I've seen you on the boards before and great to have a new player I've not rolled dice with before. It's gonna be a lot of fun this, I just hope you can keep me upright, cos like all fighters, they are designed to go down....
So greeting from the UK and Qadira

![]() |

Looks like we're on the same side of the table as well, GM Chadius. We're in Flames of Rebellion. My monk, Loong Laohu (aka Tiger) is in that one :)

![]() |

It's a small world. Apparently I'm in another game with Pelican (as Nuvian). That would make it 3 out of 3 since I came back.
As usual, a pleasure to meet new people after my return to the boards.

@GM just a note. Makai is Torag's Cleric. During most of her lvl 1 she was Trudd's cleric but I found that Deity to not have enough flavor as his edicts and anathemas were not restrictive and very flexible. So I changed to the best-known dwarven Deity.
With Torag it is a bit different:
Edicts be honorable and forthright, keep your word, respect the forge, serve your people
Anathema tell lies or cheat someone, intentionally create inferior works, show mercy to the enemies of your people
Now in rules, there is no saying what happens when you don't follow Edicts. I treat it as ideals that you should strive to. With Anathema it is a bit different, yet still flexible.
Acts fundamentally opposed to your deity's alignment or ideals are anathema to your faith. Learning or casting spells, committing acts, and using items that are anathema to your deity remove you from your deity's good graces.
...Here comes a section about spells...
If you perform enough acts that are anathema to your deity, or if your alignment changes to one not allowed by your deity, you lose the magical abilities that come from your connection to your deity. The class features that you lose are determined by the GM, but they likely include your divine font and all divine spellcasting. These abilities can be regained only if you demonstrate your repentance by conducting an atone ritual.
My understanding:
- I will not tell lies, but Makai might not answer all questions by staying silent. If she is interrogated it will be clear that she is hiding something. If she will be forced to answer she will answer truly
- Here Anathema gets a bit in conflict with LG alignment of Torag and herself. And I will try to threaten this path as best as an I can playing the internal struggle. However, if you believe that I am crossing the line of Anathema and Torag wants to throw Hammer from the sky, go for it ;)
- Makai was a Bartender and she is a Blacksmith, so the undercover of Merchants she will speak about one of those, which is still true.
- I will not even bother to interpret the showing mercy to the enemies of my people. I find it very misleading and open for interpretations.
As always since you are Torag in this game @Gm feel free to guide your flock with a gentle strike of a hammer ;)

Well that was longer than I anticipated. Let me know if I hog. I tend to go a teeeeeny bit overboard. Sometimes.

![]() |

This character is a Cascade Bearer and so she right now blends Nature and Arcane magic. Hopefully soon, she will be able to get a fairy dragon familiar.

Jacknife what part of the UK?

I wish I had been able to get to England and Scotland, and of course, Ireland, when I was a student in Roma. I have been watching the Crown and also reading and watching videos on the Plantagenets. I think that Mary, Queen of Scotts and Catherine of Aragon are among the most tragic of historical figures.

![]() |

Quickblade is very much on board with the mission... he just doesn't like Guaril much... and his portrait is what I expected -- some oily dude who's doing this for the money... :)

The last statement about "all six of you pinning me while Valais spanks me silly" had me thankful I wasn't drinking coffee or it would have ended up on my keyboard from laughing...

Audible has a most excellent lecture series about English history from the Great Courses.

You've got plenty of time. We're having a blast going through the preamble. It's always fun when the PCs don't automatically accept the mission.
...Although I will have to get you onboard with this mission somehow.
Btw. I like when missions are morally questionable I think this allows you to actually think about who your PC is and how they would act. If we would have to save a single mother with 10 kids we would not have that whole interaction.

![]() |

Agreed. Especially like this. The classic Pally vs Shady Rogue interaction.

I will have to look into that. I am amazed by the art of Eleanor of Aquitane that shows her being captured.

It's been a while since I was at school learning about the Hundred Years war and the Tudors, although we didn't go into so much detail.
I have only visited Italy on business, but each time the trips to Roma, Milano and Verona have been really interesting. Taking a little time out to see the history, but really want to go back one day and spend time visiting properly.
So many places to visit, so little time ... :(

The course title is "A History of England from the Tudors to the Stuarts". It's produced by the Great Courses. You can go to the Great Courses website and purchase the course in video format if you wish, but it's unpredictable when certain courses go on sale.

Very interesting. The late Renissance is such an interesting time period, as is the Reformation.

I agree. I lived in Rome for 3.5 years and never made it to the Capella Sistina. :(

Not so serious history podcast from the guy who does Horrible Histories series of children's books, (getting children to be interested in history).

![]() |

I teach world history at the high school level (one of the many things that I teach) andn taught it for a while at the University level.

![]() |

Cool, I enjoyed it, if it weren't for the essays .... I would have liked World History too.
On another note .... Do we have any idea the order we want to approach these clients ....
I kind of think the Inn keeper and the tax collector would be very noticeable when they leave.
Perhaps the first might be Flitch or Draffid (rogue and teacher).
Getting in touch with the guard could be helpful, as she may know the guards patrol timetable etc. So maybe 2nd.
Just some random thoughts to get us thinking about it!

![]() |

Jacknife post about ordering got me thinking. What is the exit strategy for us? I was imagining (and I don't think I confirmed it) that:
- We convinced interested parties that we are the real deal and they should trust us
- We give them some contact information and time to be somewhere
- We make sure that from that point they are escorted to a ship/warehouse whatever
- We leave as we came in
In that case, all of the parties disappear at the same time. Is that the case? Or did I get it wrong?

![]() |

We probably won't be able to leave the same way. I believe there was a mention of one of the clients knowing an unguarded exit.
:
One of the clients, Flitch, knows a secret tunnel to Shard Cove

And briefing come to the rescue, I swear to Torag reading with understanding is the most precious of skills that one can possess
“At dawn on the fourth day after your arrival in Xin-Edasseril, the ship Rolanna’s Prayer will arrive in a bay just outside the city: Shard Cove. The boat can accommodate five clients, providing an excellent opportunity to escape undetected. One of the clients, Flitch, knows a secret tunnel to Shard Cove.”“Once the clients are aboard ship, return to the city. Any remaining clients that you weren’t able to smuggle out by sea will have to be smuggled out of the city with you, which means you’ll have to get them past the guards at the docks. Your ship, the Merry Mayfly, must depart the docks once your papers have expired.”
So on fourth day we need to get everyone to the bay if not we take them out with ourselves on the 5th day.

After we have got the Innkeeper onboard, we should seek Flitch, though we'll probably have to do something sneaky for him, (unlawful).
