Sisyar |
Sisyar nods. "We still should be cautious. Don't let your guard down.". The ryphorian will let his more diplomatic allies lead.
GM Aerondor |
As you approach openly, a couple of the Yeti look up from where he had his head over a smoke vent. Red eyes look confusedly toward you. He blinks once, twice, and then turns back to the vent, breathing in deeply.
Kato Oomsphere |
Seeing how the vents might be affecting the Yetis, Kato will activate the environmental protection on his armor.
Kato looks at the other members of the party hoping someone will take the lead in diplomatic talks. But he figures someone ought to get things started.
He lowers his weapon but still has it drawn, "Hello Strangers! We have come from the caves yonder. My name is Kato Oomsphere with the Starfinder Society. We are on a peaceful diplomatic mission. Being new to this place and we were hoping you could tell us about where we are and your selves."
GM Aerondor |
Oh Dora thinks those gasses may have slightly hallucinogenic or at the very least euphoric properties. The yeti closest go Kato nods. "Peace!" he rumbles, turning back to the vent.
Diplomacy check maybe helpful here.
Sisyar |
Up close, Sisyar takes one look at the yeti and hides behind Kato, terrified. He pushes the operative up. "Go, get closer. They seem friendly.". Deep down inside, Sisyar is shaking in his bones.
Talltree |
The shirren holsters their laser pistol and advances, hands out.
Diplomacy check: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (11) + 1 = 12
Kato Oomsphere |
As the Shirren pushes Kato forward he murmurs to himself, "Well if no one else is speaking up I guess I will continue." He straightens up and says to the Yeti that might look in charge if there is one, "Yes we are peaceful and I hope you intend the same. What are you all doing here?"
Diplomacy: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5
GM Aerondor |
The yeti seems uninterested in your attempts to chat. You do hear a roaring sound as another yeti, disturbed by your presence and a lot more ... active.. than many of them, runs in your direction.
Kato Oomsphere |
"I knew someone else should have done the talking! Run" Kato says to himself as he runs past his group, "You don't have to outrun the Yeti, only the slowest one in the party." He then goes for cover some 50 feet beyond the edge of the camp and points his gun at the Yetis in case they don't stop at the edge of camp.
Sisyar |
Sisyar sees Kato start jogging past him. "Oh no you don't. Stay with the group." Sisyar shouts at the operative while running after him.
'I just knew something bad was going to happen.' Sisyar swears under his breath.
GM Aerondor |
Kato runs past Sisyar as the Yeti closes in, roaring.
I want to give a chance for others to act now. A sense motive might also be helpful here.
Sisyar |
Sense Motive: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (7) + 9 = 16
Sisyar gets a brief glance at the incoming yetis before he jogs after Kato.
Kato Oomsphere |
sense motive: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (8) + 6 = 14
Vutrul |
Vutrul stays with his companions and steps forward in front of them "maybe this situation needs a testosterone display to show who is the alpha male to this herd of yetis"
Sisyar |
Sisyar follows Kato. "Kato, I don't think they're attacking us. We should try to talk with them."
GM Aerondor |
The Yeti comes to a halt near you, beats his chest and says "Who are you?"
And again, diplomacy check along with your reactions maybe helpful.
Kato Oomsphere |
Kato comes out of his cover and sheepishly walks back to the rest of the group. "My name is Kato Oomsphere. I am an agent with of the Starfinder Society. We come in peace." Kato holds up the peace sign.
"We are here to learn about this place and its residents. Could you tell us who you are and what this place is?"
Diplomacy: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (19) + 1 = 20
GM Aerondor |
The yeti looks at you suspiciously but without attacking. "I am Inix, and we are the MukFurs!" A small cheer of "Mukfurs" is heard from the the other yeti who somewhat slowly break off from their deep breathing of the vents and come to stand behind Inix.
"Who is Starfinders? Here is World. Where we live." He gestures around the village.
The ground in this village is covered in mud splatters, half-eaten food, and other garbage. The buildings here are relatively squat and list to the sides, formed from stacked bricks of peat. Some of the buildings have fallen over, while others have been bashed into misshapen lumps. A thick, lavender smoke hangs heavy a few inches above the ground.
One of the other yeti comes forward. "Inix, they not Mukfur!" he points out in a surprised voice. A concerned expression crosses the leaders face.
Sisyar |
Sisyar attempts to show respect to the Mukfurs. Not used to talking to outsiders, Sisyar steps back, but keeps a close eye on Inix. But he does start talking.
"Hello, noble Mukfur. We come from beyond this world, from another world.". He hopes that, though brief, the Mukfur understand they aren't from around here.
Diplomacy: 1d20 + 0 ⇒ (3) + 0 = 3
Kato Oomsphere |
"No we are not Mukfur. As Sisyar said we are from another World. I heard there is a temple here. What do you know about it? Also who else lives in this world?"
GM Aerondor |
You guys diplomacy rolls are dreadful. single digits and nobody trained. *slaps head*
The Yeti sneers at you.
"Temple in middle. You go past ghost in swap to go there. Ghost will eat you. Only Mukfurs stand chance against Ghost and you no Mukfurs.,"
Kato Oomsphere |
"Yes you are right. Would you mind escorting us there?"
Dora 34 |
Arod tries to look cute to help.
diplomacy aid: 1d20 - 2 ⇒ (5) - 2 = 3
nope...
Sighing, Dora decides to do her best. "Please, do you know anything that might help us with the Ghost? What is it?"
diplomacy: 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (20) - 1 = 19
GM Aerondor |
"Mukfures avoid swamp. So we no get eaten." explains the yeti in very slow words, as if he were trying to explain something to a particularly dense person.
"Ghost eat Gnolls too. Mukfurs strong!"
A distant chant of Mukfurs can be heard from the other Yeti who are emerging from their comatosed states.
"MukFurss, Mukfurs!" they chant.
Sisyar |
"Mukfur. Mukfur Sisyar silently joins in the chanting, enthralled by their enthusiasm.
"Gnolls?" Sisyar asks. "Are they your enemies or your friends?"
GM Aerondor |
The other Mukfurs seem delighted at Sisyar joining in the chant which grows stronger.
"Mukfurs stronger than Gnolls. Mukfurs take gnoll village. Gnolls grub in ground for food." explains Inix as if to an idiot.
"Mukfurs!!!!"
Talltree |
Talltree jots notes down on their tablet. Mukfur yeti band, in opposition to "ghost" and gnolls. Mukfurs took gnoll's village (they say; confirmation needed). Ownership of source of euphoric vapors may be the driver?
"What do you Mukfurs eat?"
GM Aerondor |
The background chorus of Yeti seems delighted by Sisyar's joining in. Their chanting grows louder.
Inix all but rolls his eyes. "We eat food!" he explains. Looking around you can see signs of recent (last few years, but not last few months) agriculture having been started in the area and abandoned.
As he does this, one of the chanting yeti comes forward and suggests. "Make Starfinder mukfur. Then Party!"
Kato Oomsphere |
Kato will approach one of the vents and attempt to identify the gas being released.
Physical Science (Chemistry): 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (2) + 7 = 9 DC is reduced by 5 because chemistry is Kato's Theme Specialty
GM Aerondor |
As Kato approaches one of the smokeholes the Yeti wave him away. "Go find your own!" he snarls.
Inix nods "Finding smokeholes important skill for MukFur!" he agrees.
"Find new smokehole for Mukfurs then we talk more."
"Mukfurs! MukFurs!" they all chant.
Talltree |
"Yes, we'll go and find a new one. Right away. Could one of us see what it smells like first, so we can sniff it out? He'll be fast."
Diplomacy check: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (19) + 1 = 20
Is there any air movement here? If so, could Kato do his analysis downwind of one of the smokeholes if they don't go along with Talltree's idea?
GM Aerondor |
There is a small amount of air moving around in the huge chamber.
However Talltree's request is reasonable and after a short consideration, permission is granted. "Just one sniff though.." you are warned.
The readings are inconclusive. Suggestive of mildly euphotic effects.
If you want to go smokehole hunting, that will take a few hours and required (your choice of) perception, physical science or survival checks to find one. And then a bit of digging to make it useable.
Kato Oomsphere |
Kato puts away his portable chemical analyzer and says to the group a few passes away from the Mukfurs. "This may be one of the factions the message said to dominate but they could also be wild fauna. Helping them find smokeholes may aid us in building allies. Their size may be useful down the road. This would also allow us to explore the area further. What do you think Talltree, Dora, Vultur, and Sisyar"
I will preemptively roll survival in case the team agrees to search the area
Survival: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (19) + 9 = 28 an extra +4 if we are orienteering
Talltree |
"I think we should explore more before we commit to anything. The ghost sounds interesting, and we should try to talk to the gnolls. It may be that knowing the location of a vent would be useful knowledge in any case, though."
GM Aerondor |
Kato locates a good place and the team spends a bit of time digging. And digging. And getting muddy. Covered in muck, you emerge with a newly functioning smoke hole. Hurrah! And mukky. Did I mention mucky?
The Yeti howl in delight. "MukFur MukFur!" they chant.
GM Aerondor |
The mukfurs go into conference. It looks like they are planning another test for you. You could hang around and see, or you could go exploring further afield. Note the cavern is HUGE. It is hours transit time between locations.
