Nuvian stands in the back, as he will not be much help with negotiations.
Besides, he dislikes the arrogance of full-blooded orcs.
He quietly whispers orders to Umber his bat familiar. He asks her to do a flyby around the camp high in the air. Any details the bat can convey could be useful...

Tonraq swallows before throwing back a shot of the gin. He grits his teeth and tries to support his orcish allies in negotiations. ”We’ve learned firsthand how hard it is to survive in these mountains. By the looks of your fighters I’m guessing we haven’t even seen the worst of things. If you allow a trade route through here, I think life will become a little easier for all of you.”

Ra'Sta throws back the gin and is thankful for the warpaint covering his face, hiding the redness of his cheeks as the liquid warms his core.
Fortitude: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (11) + 5 = 16
"Your tribe does look a little worse for wear. Anything happen recently that maybe we could see to for you?"

Nuvian's bat takes flight, quietly screeching past the smoke. She can smell the carrion from afar. Something is out there and leaving quite a mess.
Grakcha grabs Lynn, Ra'Sta and Tonraq to bring them closer to her inner circle. "This is the good stuff! Drink up!" As they do all three of them manage to hold their liquor even as it burns their confidence. If Grakcha noticed, she didn't react.
Grakcha smiles. ”Alright, you’re not as stupid as you look. Maybe you can help us. The trade route would be useful for the Bearclaw Tribe. The other tribes will have to listen to us more often, hehe.” Her smile fades as she looks and points to a cavern entrance. ”But we have a problem. And now, it’s your problem.”
”That cavern has food and supplies my tribe uses during the winter. An ogre arrived here last week, killed every scout that got in his way, and ate all the food inside. He’s still there. He’s bested my best fighters. Kill him.” She turns to you, stern. ”You do this for the Bearclaw, and we’ll open our lands for caravans. We have the finest bear furs in this region, you will see!” She extends her hand to shake. ”Do we have a deal?”

Tonraq nods in agreement with Ra'Sta. "Seems simple enough. Ogres are foul creatures. The world would be better off without it."

GM chadius |

Faethor takes a drink and composes himself. That is some strong stuff.
Grakcha’s clasps Ra'Sta's arm and shakes vigorously. The orcs behind her calm down a bit. ”Good! Good! Brave AND smart, this is what Bearclaws aim for!” She turns and yells at a guard, who runs off into her tent to bring back a bag. ”I was going to fight that Ogre alone, so I gathered our provisions in preparation. But you should use it.”
She points out the contents. ”These two are minor healing potions. This is a lesser tanglefoot bag. And this pendant is a crying angel pendant talisman.”
”When you crush that Ogre’s skull, we will celebrate with the best grog we have. My Secret brew!” She winks and then laughs.
”We moved about a day away from the cavern. Rest up, we’ll drink to victory.” Grakcha describes the pathways used to get to the cave, and the instructions are quite clear.
The sunset bathes the orc camp in a red glow. Already the orcs are clearing out one of the tents for you to sleep in, and others are starting a grand feast for their triumphant heroes. Or for their last days before the ogre has his revenge, whichever.
Spending the night at the camp? Or going straight to the cave?

"Lets spend the night here, prepare our spells and fully rest up before we take on the ogre."
I would like to change out my spell slot from Light to Daze, but want to make sure we are covered on lighting since we are going into a cave...Let me know about that...
Nuvian ponders what he knows about Ogres that might help them in the battle to come...

A new day begins and you set out for the cave. It's easy to find thanks to the trails of beaten snow. Also the clouds of black flies and animal carcasses. And the increasing stench.
You reach the cavern and notice the ceilings are about 15 feet high, with maybe 10 foot ceilings in the corridors. Dim light pervades the cavern.
Which way will you go first? I've included a mini map with room letters in this Cave Map.
Give me your exploration activity.

Ra'Sta strikes up a torch. "I might see fine in here but I see some of you trying to adjust your eyes to the light. My percussions will be just as powerful even with a hand occupied."
I'll be scouting

Nuvian knows ogres are meaty, ugly, smelly and stupid. They are also strong as strong as boulders. Cruel and abusive, ogres take what they want. They can withstand all sorts of physical manipulation, but their reflexes and willpower are weak. Bad Reflexes and Will saves.
Ra'Sta pulls out a torch to help those without darkvision.

Nuvian will cast light on his shield before entering the cave. Once inside, with his Trident readied, and his shield readied, he will try to quietly lead the group towards "B".

This room was once a storeroom, apparently for leftover crates and bales, but has been recently and regularly used as a latrine. Tunnels exit to the south and west.
As Nuvian and Lynn enter, the stench gets much, much worse. You’re going to be sick!
Unless you can make a DC 15 Fort Save.

While Lynn works through her sickness, Nuvian tries to quietly search the room.

Before entering the cave, Jak cast Light onto his dagger to provide some illumination. Entering the cave, he almost gags from the smell but is able to keep it down and get use to the smell.

Lynn feels horribly queasy, but you press on.
This chamber has been turned into a makeshift bedroom. Beds have been pulled from elsewhere in the cave and pushed together to form one large misshapen sleeping place. The beds have collapsed and now lean haphazardly against each other. The blankets and pillows are filthy, and flies buzz about. Tunnels exit to the north and south.

GM chadius |

I'll cover rooms C, D and E.
A narrow pathway leads to a well. This is one of the few clean corners of the cave, so the ogre must have trouble squeezing through here. The water is cool but drinkable.
Doubling back, you enter another room with broken chairs, benches and tools. A smashed kiln lies in the corner. This must have been where the orcs created tools, armor and weapons. Now it's just a mess of splinters and rotting meat.
In the alcove you see a mass of mushrooms growing wildly. The orcs garden grows hardy plants for spices, fiber and some more variety in their foods. You do notice small bite marks, much too small for an ogre.

Tonraq closely follows Nuvian, ruffling Oogi’s head to keep him quiet and drawing his sickle in response to Jak’s warning.

Ra'Sta tails the group, making sure nothing gets the jump on them. He tries his best to stick to the walls without literally sticking to them due to any built up grime.

A massive pile of refuse lies in the middle of this room. Animal parts and partially eaten fruit and vegetables make up most of the pile, and flies lazily buzz around the perimeter. Tunnels exit in all four directions.
Two shrews are chewing on some of the garbage in the room.
An ogre sits with his back to the refuse pile, casually leaning on it as he chews on a boar carcass. He doesn’t seem to be paying attention to you.

![]() |

Tonraq frowns, and whispers to his team. ”Those shrews are probably just scavengers. If we’re ready to engage, I’d like to try and charm one and get it to stay away before it perceives us as a threat. No need to harm more animals than necessary.”

![]() |

While Tonraq deals with the shrews, Nuvian will attempt to sneak up behind the Ogre.

The shrews hiss and dash to the edge of the cavern, hissing and bearing their fangs. Tonraq locks eyes with the White furred shrew and calls upon the land to help him Charm it. The shrew hisses even more, clearly unaffected.

Jak misses, even as Ra'Sta inspires everyone against the enemy.
Lynn focuses on keeping her lunch down and shouts a challenge to the Ogre and wipes the smile from his face. "Suffer? L-little weak lady try to make me suffer?" He pauses, lost in thought and a bit frightened of the possibility.
Faethor takes his change and dashes in- too bad the shrew in White was waiting for him. The incisors pierce his leg and it burns hotter than expected - these shrews are venomous.
I'll need a DC 15 Fort Save to fight off the poison.
Nuvian decides it's go time and rushes in. The shrew in Black reaches towards an exposed part of his leg, and he swings his shield just in time to deflect it. He reaches the Ogre and pierces his belly with the trident.
"Arrrgh! Now I'm mad!" The Ogre draws his battleaxe and swings twice at Nuvian. The first blow critically lays into Nuvian, crumpling the warrior. The Ogre kicks him aside and Strides up to Faethor. Critical hit for 17 damage puts Nuvian at Dying 2.
The shrews quickly double team Faethor, biting and clawing until he lays unconscious and poisoned. Dying 1 AND Poisoned. Not good.
