Andochtuir |

Momentarily torn between wanting to heal Torra and pursuing the ghost, Andochtuir then hurries after the bard, afraid of what might happen if he didn't follow and left the bard to himself. He runs up to Riftun and draws a javelin on the way. Then, he throws it with all his might, hoping for a lucky hit...
javelin: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (7) + 4 = 11
Damage: 1d6 + 5 ⇒ (5) + 5 = 10
As expected with its great speed, it goes wide. He shakes his head, biting away his frustration, and looks at the injured bard to his side. "Riftun..." he begins, sad at seeing the normally energetic bard lose heart. "Please, don't think like that," he implores him, and pats him on the shoulder. "It's running from us since it's afraid of us. It failed twice, didn't it? And its friends are dead, or also running. We'll get it next time. All we have to do is make sure Torra survives! Can you assist me? We can take a look at your wounds, too."

"Bu-but... I-I cannot reach him Riftun" Yuto looks confused knowing the Phantom will have time to hide himself if he tried to ready his bow. Pushed by the desperate yells of the Ulfen, he finally attacks with the only thing at hand. Without much faith, Yuto throws his father's katana at the running away Phantom.

Teruko peers over the edge of the battlements, watching the Phantom flee towards the west. Then she raises her crossbow and fires.
Unfortunately the bolt does little, and she has nothing else that could stop the ghost corby from escaping. Shaking her head, she turns back to Torra and prepares to heal her. She only half-hears Yuto's exclamation about the magical darkness. "Can you find her anyway? She has to be in there somewhere."

Teruko fires her crossbow at the fleeing ghost corby, but the bolt sparks off of her shimmering chain shirt, leaving the Phantom unharmed. Not so for Yuto's hurled katana, however. Spiraling end over end, it slashes her leg, leaving a bloody gash before falling to the ground nearby.
The Phantom does not even look at the heroes, instead fleeing inside the throne room and swinging the door shut behind her. Such is her haste that she doesn't even bother picking up Yuto's thrown sword.

Riftun |

Riftun pathetically raises a hand to caution Yuto against throwing his blade when, to his general amazement, the samurai tosses his sword with such guile and grace it could only have been the will of Lady Luck herself guiding the man's hands as the blade found its mark despite the great distance.
The bard stands gob smacked for a moment before he composes himself enough to be aware of the brewing situation in the room of the desecrated altar. Stumbling towards the entrance to the room Riftun drops his dagger reaches deep inside his azure bag and slowly draws out the long chain of the Dancing Wasp. "Vile sorcery and cowardly deceptions would not hinder the heroes this time as they advanced, determined to lift the foulness from the shrine of Desna." He cries out in his story-teller's voice.

Teruko unsheathes her wand and quickly chants a spell of healing now that Torra isn't in danger of being attacked again immediately. "I've got you, you're okay, the Phantom's gone now." She glances at Riftun, one eyebrow quirked inquisitively, but focuses on Torra for the moment. Riftun's still conscious; she can heal him later.

She also reloads her crossbow as a move action.

Andochtuir |

Likewise, Andochtuir can only stare in amazement when Yuto's throw, somehow, hits home. It was the kind of far-fetched, one in a million shot you read about in heavily embellished tales... except he'd just seen it happen. Truth be told, even he himself had forgotten all about what he just asked Riftun after witnessing something so miraculous!
Despite everything, he has to grin, and clasps the samurai's shoulder. "You know - That sort of throw? Not even the lifer elves can boast that. You've got some serious skills, friend. Or the blessing of Desna herself! Either way, I feel heartened by your prescence."
The moment passes quickly though, when Teruko's spell reminds him all too well that Torra was still down and out on the floor behind them, with a priestess in a cloud of darkness on the wrong side. "We're not done yet, though..." he says, and rushes back to defend the other two if needed.

Andochtuir moves to protect the others, drawing his wand from his belt, while Riftun begins his oration in preparation for whatever comes forth from the darkness within the shrine.

Yuto repents having thrown his father's katana the very same moment he loses touch of it It's lost forever he thinks, only to startle himself as the blade cuts the Phantom's heel as he escapes. The man looks at Riftun amazed by the resolve, luck, tactical acumen, or whatever it is he encouraged him with, then at Andochtuir as he greets him.
Still not very conscious of what is going on, and if Desna herself has blessed him, he finds himself in the front of a wall of darkness with the magic flail at hand "Ju-just bad karma accumulated by the Phantom. I am sure"
Yuto raises his shield when he sees a spark coming from the darkness, but he shakes as it shocks him despite blocking it with the shield "Ouch! Tha-that was painful! Wh-what was that?!"
He looks confused at the darkness "What to do?!" he hopes his more seasoned friends can guide him on how to deal with this, while looking attentively at the blackness, determined to dodge any newly incoming ray.

Still holding one arm close to his bleeding chest, Riftun see's the look Yuto gives him and shyly shrugs as if in a manner to convey that he doesn't know how the young samurai was able to do what he did but that he also didn't want to take any of the warrior's credit for the heroic act.
He smiles softly when Torra opens her eyes glad to see that she's alright. The Polished Stone was welcomed back to the land of the living with a burning desire to return the corby's favor and crush them under her mighty stones!"
The bard then proceeds to begin swinging the kusarigama above his head repeatedly focusing on the darkness before him.
"Even darkness cannot hide your black heart. This will only be the first time we defeat the Lord of Wind Demons." he speaks with sudden conviction, stepping forward to protect his friends.

Andochtuir taps Torra's shoulder with the wand in his hand, healing some of her back wounds and letting her straighten further, more able to fight once more. Meanwhile, Riftun, thinking quickly, begins whirling the kusarigama over his head. The buzzing noise of the chain grows louder and louder until an enormous insect, a wasp nearly the size of a horse, emerges from the circle described by the spinning weight.
When did he ready that? I'll say it's fine, but will hold off on letting the giant wasp act until next turn, sound fair?
A soft cackle emerges from within the murk of the shrine, and another blast of electricity leaps from inside, striking Andochtuir this time. He feels his muscles - already larger than normal - rebel against him, tightening and jerking despite his will.

Riftun goes wide-eyed in awe as he witnesses the size of this monstrous creature for the first time. The hairs on the back of his neck rise instinctually as the buzzing of the creature stimulates his self-preservation instinct. But reminding himself that he was in control of this creature Riftun steels himself and attempts to telepathically direct the wasp.
H-Hello there, umm Mr. Buzzworth. Uh would you mind flying into that darkness over there and stinging any bird-creatures you find in there... umm... a lot please?

Hirabashi Yuto |

Yuto holds his breath as another ray comes flying, this time to strike on Andochtuir. Hearing a loud noise at his back, he sees Riftun spinning the dancing wasp, and looks shocked at the appearance of a giant one.
"W-we cannot remain here being sparkled..." remembering how Tamura Benjiro dealt with this in the Mansion of Darkness, Yuto closes his eyes and advances into the wall of blackness "To-torra San, tell me where is the black corby!"

A lot of things were happening all at once, and Torra is still trying to shake off the muzzy feeling of having just woken up. She opens her mouth to thank Andochtuir for the healing, then starts at the sight of the giant wasp, instinctively raising her hands and almost blasting the thing before realizing that it isn't hostile. Still watching it warily over her shoulder, she brushes past the half-elf instead, twisting to point at the corby priestess.

At Riftun's mental command, the giant wasp buzzes forwards, bobbing over the heads of his comrades and darting partway into the darkness to sting at one of the the dire corby priestesses. Yuto rushes into the darkness, whirling the flail whose bonus he forgot to add in and strikes out at where he's pretty sure the priestess is. Unfortunately, the heavy spiked balls whistle uselessly through the air, missing the priestess completely - if she was even there in the first place.

Hearing various sounds of combat without seeing anything going on is rather disorienting and so Riftun can't figure out if any of his allies' attacks have been effective but he does know that they can't continue to allow themselves to be attacked by this priestess.
As he continues to spin the chain above his head he calls out to the others. "Take cover everyone! Mr. Buzzworth should be able to handle himself in there!"
He then gets low behind the wall and tries to make himself as small a target as possible.

Momentarily distracted by how both his and Teruko's wands seemed to not do much - magical interference? Desecration? Wounds messing up the correct motion? -, the warrior looks up from Torra to see Riftun summoning a Giant Wasp, of all things, then scramble for cover.
With Torra being up and the wasp seemingly knowing what it was doing, he places himself in front of the prone bard and faces the darkness. "An ingenious plan, friend. Yet, are you sure you don't wish to be healed? What happens to the your summon should you fall?" he asks him.

He then glances down at his hand that is still covering his heavily bleeding wound nervously. "I-I'm honestly not sure. I've never done this before." He swallows hard. "Y-You don't have to actually see the wound to heal it do you?"
If not he allows Andy to heal him, if so then he will awkwardly but politely refuse.

Being just barely out of its reach, even the mere proximity to that wave had the hairs on his arms rise upright.
For now, seeing Torra have much more success, he decided to keep healing her. Just in case for the off chance that the assassin showed up again now and took her down, which was probably the worst case scenario.

Riftun continues whirling Dancing Wasp, though he finds it somewhat difficult to do from prone, and its menacing hum sings through the air. The summoned wasp floats up above Yuto's head, trying to get to the priestess, but cannot manage to make itself small enough to get there.
For her part, the priestess lashes out with her sword at the samurai. Yuto cannot use his shield to protect himself from an unseen sword, and finds that the weapon cuts him from the right of his throat to his left collarbone, leaving him bleeding and coughing for air.
Longsword vs. Yuto: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (16) + 6 = 22 While it doesn't actually matter here, I'm surprised that there's not actually a bonus I can find for people attacking from total concealment. There is from invisibility, but I couldn't find anything regarding total concealment.
Damage: 1d8 ⇒ 5 Yuto is now at 3 hp.
Teruko, Torra, and Yuto are up.

Torra winces as she sees the fresh cut on Yuto, then renews her efforts to bring down the priestess. She is burning with curiosity to know what the others are doing, but as she feels the faint touches of healing energy she supposes that they are trying to help her.
"Help Yuto, not me! Yuto, step to your right, hug the wall!" Hopefully that would confer him a little more protection, and also Mr. Buzzworth could make himself useful at last.

With a final blast, Torra manages to crush the priestess' skull between the far wall and her earthen projectile. She falls with a thump on the ground, dead at last.

Silence falls over the darkened shrine - something that shows no sign of immediately fading into normal light - leaving only the ragged breathing of the party and their bloody injuries as reminders of the frenzied minute of combat.

Teruko Kaijitsu |

"Something about this room is interfering with positive energy!" he concludes. "We might have to go back outside should we wish to heal others better."
"The defiled shrine maybe? It might be interfering somehow." These musings are interrupted by Yuto's cry of pain. Teruko glances at Torra, nods, and ventures into the darkness.
The good news is that Yuto isn't trying to avoid being healed, meaning she can actually find him. The better news is that her wand actually works this time. The best news is that Torra finally manages a fatal blow, giving them a few moments to breathe and heal.
"Andochtuir? I've got Yuto, could you take care of Torra and Riftun?"

Andochtuir |

The warrior lets out a sigh of relief as silence falls. Momentarily, at least. "All right. Let's hope this goes better now that the priestess is dead," he responds, wincing slightly at his own accumulated injuries as he goes to heal the others.

Wand: 39/50 or 40/50 charges depending on if Riftun wants to be healed. @Riftun if he'd accept, does he want another charge for the last 1 hp?
When he finishes, he looks up and still only sees darkness ahead. "Right. What do we do now? If we can't remove the sight-blocking cloud, do we simply... wait it out, and see what we can do about the shrine? Save Torra, of course, since she can see. And we should probably check the body of the priestess, as well."
If Andy can't see the shrine he'd try to find the priestess' body in the dark and drag her and her posessions into the lit room for inventory/identification.

Hirabashi Yuto |

Yuto keeps swinging his flail for a while "Where is she?!" he claims desperate "I cannot find her!" until he bumps against the wall and Torra tells him the priest has fallen.
Yuto would prefer the idea to gather the equipment from the fallen ones, especially the priest's equipment and especially anything magical, and then look for Spivey for healing.

Riftun |

"Thank you Mr. Buzzworth." Riftun sighs is relief as he stops twirling the Dancing Wasp and allows his now friend to fade away now that the battle was presumably over.
Politely declining Andochtuir's offer of healing the first thing Riftun does is spin around away from the group and quickly cast Mending as many times as is necessary to fix the tears in his clothing. He then spins around and rushes over to Torra embracing the dwarven woman and sobbing.
"Oh Torra! You-You're alright! I'm sorry I was just so worried, a-and it happened while you were protecting me I just... I feel responsible and I was so scared for a moment I thought..." He releases the woman and just sadly smiles whipping away his tears on his sleeve. "I'm sorry, I'm just glad you're alright."

Torra goes rigid as Riftun swoops in for a surprise hug, blinking a few times as she tries to understand what's happening.
"..."
"..."
"I'm... fine? Anyway, Mr. Buzzworth? How did you do that? He was a bit annoying, getting in my face with his wings, and the sound made all my hairs stand up, but... pretty cool."

Teruko Kaijitsu |

Teruko pauses as she's about to heal Yuto for the second time. "Yuto, are you okay waiting for a few minutes? We could go back to Spivey and she could heal everyone at once." It's not too long back to the graveyard, and the Phantom had been very badly injured last time they'd seen her. Hopefully they wouldn't get attacked again.
"Then, on our way back, we could go through the main gates and pick up your sword." She very gently pats Yuto on the shoulder. "Not that the flail isn't working, but it seems strange for you to not have your sword by your side."

Aganhei GM |

It takes Andochtuir a few seconds to find the dire corby priestess in the darkness - it helps when Torra guides him over. Easily dragging her limp corpse out into the grey sunlight, he examines her carefully.
Her sword is finely crafted a masterwork longsword, and there is a bone wand tucked into her robes. One scroll is carefully hidden in a pouch, and she wears her silver unholy symbol of Pazuzu on a chain on one hip. She has a variety of pretty stones and pieces of glass on her, as well as a pouch of a fair amount of gold pieces - all marked as coming from Brinewall 54 gp. Her armor is simple leather, and is badly damaged from all the rocky projectiles that she was hit with.

Riftun |

Riftun backs up off his dwarven friend no longer making eye-contact as he blushes and rubs the back of his head in embarrassment at his sudden outburst of emotion. "Right well, I'm just glad you're okay is all..."
He then begins tugging at and twirling his braid between his fingers anxiously. "Oh Mr. Buzzworth? I ummm- I can't take too much credit for that it was all a part of that kusarigama we got off Kikonu's body... it- it can only do this once per day."
Appraise: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (17) + 3 = 20
Spellcraft: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (3) + 10 = 13
Spellcraft: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (14) + 10 = 24
After the others drag the priestess' body out of the darkness, Riftun takes a few moments to study the different objects they find on her.
"Umm soo, it looks like most of these rocks are just pretty rocks but there are two rubies in here worth around 46 gold together. This wand... it's designed to hurt people. It does a spell that is essentially the exact opposite of Teruko and Andochtuir's. Except a little more powerful... I-I don't like the feeling I get from it but his has twelve uses left should someone else want to give it a try... the scroll... I'm so sorry but the scroll vexes me. I-I have no idea what it does." Riftun says with his brows furrowed.

Andochtuir |

"Actually, I like Teruko's plan," Andochtuir says, and stops healing Torra after the second tap. Leaving her at 10 hp below max. "We'll heal ourselves just enough to be in okay shape, then ask our Azata friend to help us. Gods know we'll probably need the wands later."
spellcraft, -1 for mutagen: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (14) + 5 = 19 "Mind if I take a look?" he asks Riftun as the clever bard can't figure out the scroll. "Hm... my mind is a bit foggy, a side effect from the potion. I get the idea that this is a very powerful scroll, but what it does evades me as well... perhaps our Azata friend could tell us that too. And yes, yes, I am indeed talking around her name, too," he blushes and looks away, embarassed. "Another unfortunate side-effect, and one I'll hope to have an answer for, one day. I should be fine in a few minutes."
Afterwards, he takes a few experimental swings with the longsword. "This blade is very well-balanced. Yuto, if you want a replacement sword, or anyone needs a good weapon touse, this might be good. Otherwise, I'll gladly take it with me as a sidearm."

Teruko Kaijitsu |

Spellcraft: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (1) + 6 = 7 Nope!
Teruko shakes her head as the scroll is passed her way. "I can't read that at all. It might be because it was written by a cleric of Pazuzu." She shivers. "Spivey might know what it does. Regardless, if she can heal us," (she flushes slightly, knowing full well she's the only uninjured one of the group), then we can come back afterwards and see about reconsecrating the shrine. If it seems safe enough, Koya could join us. She'll know what to do."
That's what I get for taking Enhanced Diplomacy (which I've never used) instead of Read Magic. Oh well, it was more thematic :P

Torra Voliokerdam |

Torra gives Andochtuir a curious look. Had he forgotten Spivey's name? She's about to remind him, but Teruko is ahead of her - which is good, because Ameiko's sister is good with words, and Torra is not. She would have probably said something rude and upset Andochtuir.
She rolls her shoulders gingerly, testing the extent of the damage that still afflicts her. The flesh feels tender and a little painful, but no more than that, and the blood has stopped flowing.
"Alright, let's go to Spivey then." She still keeps glancing over her shoulder ever so often, in case the Phantom wanted to make an appearance again.

Yuto observes the team and breathes relieved. Yes, they were badly battered, but they managed to free the shrine and protected Teruko from receiving any harm "Le-let's go then visit Spivey"
"I-it is good Sir Andochtuir, keep the sword" Yuto pads his wakizashi and makes the flail swirl, a bit clumsily though as the head bangs against the back of his armor, and he looks down ashamed "Th-that wa-wasp thing was pretty impressive Riftun. And thanks Torra, if not for your mighty strength and piercing eyes, that priest would have ki-killed me, I fear..." he comments while walking back to the walls.
"W-we better walk back through the main ga-gate" he points to his open wounds in the arm and leg "I am too injured for climbing and I would like to recover my katana"
And as it seems everyone agrees to come back to their Desna's friend, he will start walking in that direction. Picking up his katana if possible.

Riftun |

Riftun nods at Andochtuir in an attempt at understanding what the half-elven man had divulged. "Well, I do believe it was rather impressive, even with this unfortunate side effect, I must admit I'm rather curious about the formula, you-you made it yourself I presume? I was never much good at chemistry I'm afraid... my mind tends to wander if I don't have a story of sorts to follow."
Glancing over at Teruko he nods more eagerly. "Y-Yes I think a visit to our new friend is definitely in order. That whole ordeal was terrifying a-and I'm not sure we could handle something like that again in our current state."
The red-head's cheeks go flush at the samurai's compliment and he casts his eyes to the floor while nervously twiddling his thumbs. "Oh, th-thank you Yuto but you were far more impressive than I. The way you threw your katana at the Phantom as she retreated, it was incredible! Like something out of an old epic! A-And you were very brave running into the dark like that..." He then looks off to the side and puffs out his lips in an adorable little pout. "...but please don't do that anymore I got real worried."
Riftun follows whatever the group decides eager to get everyone feeling better and put a little distance between them and the Phantom.

The five heroes walk back along the ramparts, before descending into the gatehouse. Unsurprisingly, the front doors have been shut since their last visit into Brinewall Castle, as are the doors to the courtyard. Fortunately, this is an easily rectified situation using the levers in the gatehouse.
Yuto steps back out into the grey light of the early morning sun, before his eye catches movement from the direction of the barn. Turning to look, he sees an unpleasantly large grey-furred spider scuttling towards the group.

I was never much good at chemistry I'm afraid... my mind tends to wander if I don't have a story of sorts to follow."
"There's no shame in that. We each have our own talents, and besides, you have to be aware to make such epic stories of us, correct?" The alchemist replies, grinning. "The formula itself is not that complicated. Black Adler, Baneberry, Caladmus and Creosote. The trick is in the handling. Baneberry is naturally poisonous, and is combined with Creosute, a natural antitoxin. When added to Caladmus - a natural preservative on the side - that is when it gains it, somehow, gains properties to stengthen the muscles."
"Yet the difficulty lies in the brewing proces, not the ingredients. It must be precise!" he continues. "A single stalk cut too short. Or, gods forbid, slightly overboiling he Creosute... I think Sandru would throw me out on the spot! Though the... 'unmistakable scent' would linger for days, I'd fear."
He gets a faraway look, then laughs it away as he seems to remember something. "Oh, and the Black Adler - that doesn't do anything but make it less horrible to taste, as fruits tend to. Of course, there are variations-"
Suddenly, a giant spider jumps on Yuto and begins eating him!

Riftun is fully engaged in the conversation with Andochtuir, the man really seems to know what he's talking about and the idea that the brewing process itself was the sticking point was truly fascinating, it truly was a unique talent his new companion possessed.
He is about to ask Andochtuir if he had ever considered the use of Fangberry from the River Kingdoms as that has been known to give potions a unique almost candy-like sweetness though the berry itself is overpoweringly sweet to the ordinary palate when Yuto is assailed!
Riftun's eyes go wide as he reaches out for the Tien man, gravely concerned by the man's injuries. "Yuto!"
