Yuto smiles while he shakes under the brief hug. It is clear he is both enjoying and suffering from the demonstration.

The young man is left aghast by the news "W-what? Arika? B-but how it comes..." he looks confused to Shandu and the others around, and brings his right hand to the front when they reinforce Ameiko's words.

He looks even more confused when Koya encourages him to join the group to search for the lost adventurers "Me mother?" he blinks startled by the idea while he points to himself "I...I... I am no warrior" he looks to Sandru, then to Shalelu "I am barely a dressmaker"

As Koya further presses him, remembering him about the dream meaning, he looks around nervously, looking at the doors, the windows... All closed. "Ma-ma-madame Mvashti... ...Madame Mvashti; left a sword and an armor to me, short before..." a knot seems to grow in the man's neck before going silent.

He looks at the ground and after a long thoughtful pause, he adds "We... we cannot leave Arika out there in the Marsh. Someone must do something. Someone strong. The Licktoads live in that marsh"

Seishin briefly acknowledge's Ameiko's knowledge of him with a chuckle before listening to Yuto.

Yuto wrote:
"We... we cannot leave Arika out there in the Marsh. Someone must do something. Someone strong. The Licktoads live in that marsh."

"...or several someones, each with a complementary set of skills." The blue-skinned priest adds.

"Regardless, we should set out for Mr. Proudstump's abode as soon as we can." He looks at the gathered crew. "If any of you need to gather any items or equipment before setting out, now would be a great time to fetch them."

"Shalelu? Will you be accompanying us?" He finally asks of the blonde elf.

Koya smiles gently at her surrogate son. "Yuto, just because you aren't yet a great warrior does not mean you will never be one."

Sandru nods. "We all start from somewhere, Yuto. I think Madame Mvashti knew more than she shared, often. Perhaps even more than she realized."

"Mother did have a unique gift... though she always said it wasn't as strong as it would have been, back before she was born." Koya says, a small smile growing on her lips.

At Seishin's question, Shalelu shakes her head. "Much though I would like to, I'm still shaking off my encounter with Ripnugget and his little tribe of horrors." After a moment, she continues. "There are two main trails into Brinestump Marsh - the New Fish Trail, which leads to Walthus' home, and the Old Fish Trail, which was abandoned some years back."

Knowledge (geography) DC 13:
The entrance to the New Fish Trail is significantly closer to Sandpoint than the one to the Old Fish Trail. A handful of fisherman swear by the fishing spots in the New Fish Trail, even though most people avoid Brinestump Marsh like the plague.

Ameiko snorts. "Some years back, meaning before most of us were born."

Shalelu lets that pass without comment. "Just be warned. I've heard that the Licktoads supposedly have a 'powerful shaman.' That might mean a goblin who knows a bare few spells, but it could also be a genuine threat."

Yuto nervously moves his eyes from one side to the other, then looks at the congregated group of adventurers and finally concludes "Madame Mvashti was a sage woman" and slightly bowing to Koya he adds "I will stand to the last words I gave her"

Removing the sweat that has again formed on his forefront, Yuto smiles nervous to Seishin statement, then looks back to Shalelu with a hopeful look in his eyes.

Breathing deep when Shalelu states she needs to rest, he asks "Ho-how will w-weeee find the trails?"

The hefty man gulps soundly when the elven ranger explains there might be a shaman among the marsh goblins.

"Simply enough." Shalelu says, surprisingly gently. "Go south on the Lost Coast Road until you reach Ashen Moor. There will be a fork in the road as you approach Brinestump Marsh from the north. That's the New Fish Trail."

The elf frowns slightly. "Unfortunately, I don't know where the Old Fish Trail is - I was never overly concerned with the Licktoads - they tend to be hunted by the local wildlife in the marsh, so they rarely come out to attack." She looks around at the gathered group, raising an elegant eyebrow inquisitively.

Sandru shakes his head, and Ameiko frowns. "Nope, no idea."

Koya sighs. "All the caravans I've been on have avoided the Marsh. No reason to go there, after all."

"Sorry we can't be of more help." Shalelu says.

Knowledge (geography) - Old Fish Trail DC 18:
The Old Fish Trail is a bit further down the Lost Coast Road, where another, lesser fork leads down (this time literally, as the Brinestump Marsh is in something of a basin on that side) into the marsh proper. Beyond that is largely unmapped.

Knowledge (history) - Brinestump Marsh DC 20:
Wait a moment, wasn't the Old Fish Trail abandoned because of the depredations of the Licktoads? Maybe they live closer to it than they do to the New Fish Trail.

"Don't overexert yourselves, either. The heat won't be doing any of you any favors." Shalelu adds after a moment's thought. "It might be cooler in the swamp proper, due to the shade, but it'll probably be even more humid."

"The New Fish Trail is pretty close to Sandpoint. Serban, he's the person Velarie usually buys our fish from, swears by a fishing hole in that area." Teruko's expression goes a bit distant as she tries to remember what else she's heard about the swamp. "He said he used to use a spot on the Old Fish Trail, but had to leave after seeing too many signs of goblins. The fish there weren't worth a possible run-in with the Licktoads. I'm sure he's already left town for the day, but if we happen to run into him on the trail we could ask for directions. Assuming Walthus doesn't know, of course."

She finishes her drink and stands up straight. "I'll need to gather some things as well. Shall we meet back here in an hour?" In a lower tone directed towards Yuto, she adds, "Do you happen to know if Vernah has any clothing ready-made that would be suitable for this heat? I don't think this outfit will do."

Yuto:
Vernah does not usually keep that sort of clothing in stock, unfortunately. It's almost never this hot out, and while she's able to make outfits for this weather, she doesn't have any ready made.

Hana nods at Shalelu as she files her directions to memory. She begrudgingly does the same when Teruko adds her own knowledge of the area. “Right. Everyone back here in an hour to get everything they need. After that, we head out to Ashen Moor.”

With that said, a couple "be right backs" given to everyone, Hana left the Rusty Dragon and endured another blast as sunshine as she returned to Church Street.

Getting home she immediately noticed just how quiet it was inside. It did not take long to realize that her mother had already gone out to do her morning errands. Hana was relieved. It was better that way, she told herself. Having to justify what she intended to do would have been trying to say the least. Even so, she would not go to the marsh without first writing a letter explaining everything to her.

After finishing the letter - and wiping away a few tears - Hana moved to a side of the house and removed a false tile from the floorboard. Within the hidden compartment was bukijutsu weapons and a leather set of armor. Despite the oldness of the gear the tools had been well-maintained and were still up for fighting quality. Hana had made sure of that.

Ditching her kimono, Hana methodically dons her weaponry and armor along with a few other needed items. Once that is done, she goes back to the Rusty Dragon, making sure to do so while taking the route that would minimize the chances of smallfolk spotting her along the way. After all, only a handful people needed to know that cheerful little Hana could handle a weapon.

"I... I guess we should avoid the hotter hours of midday. Focus our search on dusk and dawn." comments Yuto, then listens to Teruko enlightenment "T-that makes finding the Old Trail all the mo-mooore important if we are to find about the goblins. Bu-but let's start on the sa-safe one. Maybe Arika and the other adventurers are there"

The young man clicks his feet together and vows to Teruko "Rynshinn San could well sew proper clothing for this hot. But this heat is rather unusual. There are no hot weather cloths right now at Vernah's Fine Clothing and it will take days to provide for all of us. Sorry Teruko Sama."

As the meeting comes to an end, Yuto comes back home, with Koya if she does not remain to talk with Sandru. Back at home, he packs food, water, a bedroll and some cooking tools, a shovel and a few other items he thinks might be of interest. At last, he sits in front of his bed and observes the armor hanged at his room for some minutes before opening the box where his father's katana is stored.

Koya elects to stay with Sandru at the Rusty Dragon, preferring the relative cool of the indoors over venturing out into the sun once more.

During the group's preparations, the sun continues to rise, and heat begins beating even more heavily down upon the poor settlement of Sandpoint. The armored would-be rescuers already feel sweat building up beneath their protective clothing, though they aren’t in the sun for long enough that it has become a serious problem… yet. Seishin alone is reasonably comfortable, his god’s protection keeping him from feeling the ill effects of heat.

"That's fine, Yuto. I'm sure I can make something work." Teruko actually isn't sure she can make something work, but she's going to have to try.

Kaijitsu Manor:
Teruko braces herself for the heat as she leaves the Rusty Dragon and heads back for the manor. Upon arrival she immediately starts looking for Velarie.

"You were mostly right about what my sister wanted. The Licktoads have indeed been causing trouble, but the more pressing concern is that a group of adventurers went to deal with them...and took Arika along. That was four days ago."

Despite looking, (and feeling), like a complete mess, Teruko still stands up straighter and pastes a determined look onto her face. "A group is gathering to go look for her. I've offered my services as well. We're meeting back at the Rusty Dragon in an hour. If you could help me gather things that might be useful, I would be most grateful." She doesn't specify what 'useful things' might be, as Velarie probably knows better than she does.

She looks down at herself with a grimace. "I'm going to start by changing into my coolest outfit."

Kaijitsu Manor:
Velarie's eyes widen in horror. "That's terrible! After her poor brother died, too." She sighs. "Perhaps bravery's in their blood, or she's just being a bit foolish."

She pauses, looking at Teruko with dawning shock. "You're going into the swamp, Miss Teruko? Oh, I mean..." She at least has the good grace to blush. "I would have thought that Miss Ameiko would have discouraged that."

"But certainly, I'll see what I can rustle up for you. It's going to be dreadfully hot out today - at least, that's what the fisherfolk say. Shame we don't have any priests of Gozreh here - they could tell us for sure. Oh, but you're not here to listen to an old woman ramble. I'll just get off and search for useful little tidbits, shall I?"

"I'm sure I'll be fine. We've gotten together quite the group. Torra's going, you might remember her. She's been studying at the House of Blue Stones, and you know Sabyl teaches her students how to fight. Plus Yuto; Koya says he's going to be a great warrior." (A bit of an exaggeration there, but Velarie doesn't need to know that.) "We'll go in, find Arika, and be back as soon as we can. It'll be fine."

Sense Motive DC15:

Teruko is clearly trying to reassure herself more than Velarie.

"I appreciate your help, Velarie. We'll be back before you know it."

As the designated hour ends Teruko walks back up to the Rusty Dragon, full pack on her back. Her clothing is lighter and looser, which helps with the heat. There's a leather coat slung over one shoulder, clearly reinforced to provide some extra protection. (Although given that it's leather, it's no wonder Teruko is carrying it rather than wearing it.)

There's a crossbow in her hands. Surprisingly, from the way she's holding the crossbow it looks like she wasn't lying. She actually does know how to use it.

Yuto appears second, just some minutes after Teruko. The young man seems to have decided the group is going on an expedition to the confines of Golarion, as he is carrying a large backpack with many tools hanging from it. You can see a wooden shield, a rope, a shovel and even a cooking pot, all of them clanging against the chainmail he is wearing.

Over the chainmail, there are four large plates harnessed together with leather shoulder straps. Two round plates protect his front and back, while two smaller rectangular plates cover the sides of the torso. The plates are so polished they resemble mirrors. A long and slightly curved sword hangs from a sheath on his left, while a dagger is strapped to his belt at the right.

"Hi again Teruko Sama" Yuto plants himself in front of the woman, clicking feet and vowing slightly "Should I carry your heavier stuff Sama?" he uses the forearm to clean the sweat that is already sliding over his face.

Seishin remains in the Rusty Dragon until the others return, finally taking the chance to have some breakfast and mentally prepare for the journey ahead.

When the others arrive, the first thing he really notices is the young man's heavy-looking four-mirror armour.

...well. I forgot to ask you for two castings of protection from this oppressive heat, My Liege.

Torra returns to the Rusty Dragon carrying only a small pack with a bedroll tied atop it. Her parents had been very concerned at the news that she needed to go into the Brinestump marsh and potentially confront goblins, but once they heard that Shalelu herself had suggested it, that Torra would not be alone, and - more -importantly - that someone from town was missing and needed finding, they relented and started helping their daughter with her preparation. Her father dug out his old armour he had been wearing in his youth (although he still wouldn't tell Torra what for!), together with a serviceable dagger. Her mother had borrowed a parasol from a neighbour and gave Torra her own scarf - "Wet it and wear it around your head, this heat is no joke!". With two waterskins, some food in her pack and her favourite collection of chisels (you never knew when you came across some stone that needed working), Torra felt as ready as she was ever going to get.

As she ducks back into the blessed shade of the inn's front room, she appears to wear nothing more than a thin, sleeveless tunic under the hide armour, and a wet-looking turban around her head. She has exchanged her sandals for boots and is twirling a parasol over her shoulder. She is clearly not accustomed to wearing armour, as she squirms almost constantly, fidgeting with the straps and frequently running a finger under the edges in an attempt to make it fit more comfortably.

Back at the Rusty Dragon, Hana’s sharp eyes quickly scan the tavern to see who had already made it back. Teruko was there wearing loose armor and arms that seemed odd on her regal person as was Seishin who seemed to have not left at all and Torra who looked more than ready to face the heat. And there was Koya’s surrogate son Yuto.

Hana only realizes then that she had neglected to greet the man when he had first coame to the tavern. She promptly amends that mistake by going up to him now with a smile and a pat on the back. “It’s good to know that your going to be with us, Yuto,” she tells him honest and cheerful. “I didn’t know you had become a warrior. But I suppose I’m hardly one to talk about that,” she admits sardonically, showing off her own armor and weapons as she lightly chuckles.

Next she looked towards Ameiko, her eyes and tone having become serious again. “I know that Shalelu can’t come with us, but I will you,” she asks the elder Kaijitsu, not entirely sure whether she’d even want her crush to yes and put herself in such danger.

The group gathers at the Rusty Dragon at the appointed time, each rescuer prepared in their own way.

Ameiko glances over her sister approvingly, offering her a small smile and a gentle hug. "You'll do fine, Teru." She reassures her. Releasing the younger Kaijitsu, she looks to Hana, arching a dark brow. "Interesting. I'd've never guessed you could fight. Guess I need to keep my eyes open, eh?"

At Hana's question, Ameiko shakes her head, expression growing dark. "No. No, not right now. My adventuring days are over."

Sense Motive DC 22, Teruko gets a +3 circumstance bonus:
Ameiko's not being entirely honest, here. She's been a little more restless of late than she usually is.

Koya and Sandru walk over to Yuto. "Wow, that's some impressive looking armor you have there, Yuto." Sandru says, letting out a low whistle. He looks over the younger man before nodding firmly. "You'll have to come back with tales of triumph, yes? Rescue the distressed adventurers, slay the menace to Sandpoint, that sort of thing."

Koya sighs, swatting her older son's arm. "Just follow your instincts, my boy. They won't guide you wrong."

Sandu grows serious. "Come back in one piece, okay? Just... don't take unnecessary risks."

Meanwhile, Shalelu moves gracefully around Torra, tightening and loosening straps as they need. "Don't worry too much about the goblins, Torra. You've been learning a lot recently, and I think your talents will show themselves when you get into the marsh."

She lifts her head to level monochrome eyes at Seishin. "I believe you have traveled the most, so you're probably the best prepared. Do what you know, and I think you'll be able to keep everyone alright."

Everyone ready to go?

Yuto rolls his eyes back and looks back when he realizes Seishin is looking straight at him. He vows at Torra when she appears, also equipped for the march.

The young man smiles relieved when Hana appears. He is quick to step closer to her and laughs nervously when she talks to him "I do not know who does Koya want me to fool. I know a lot about the codes and edicts of the true warrior, but I am not one. This armor... I feel disguised like on carnival day" Yuto shakes the chainmail trying to make air to enter through "And there is this heat... the weather is going to kill me before a goblin has the chance to claim that prize"

He does smile though when Hana shows her own sword "I did not know you are actually a warrior yourself. I really hope you know how to use that" the young man looks one by one at the others, and negates with the head taking his hand to the forefront.

Just as the group is up to start walking, some idea crosses Yuto's head "Do-do you think Veznutt Parooh would ha-have a map to the Brinestump Marsh?"

Hana answers Ameiko's question with a smile and one of her tried and true lines."I like I said, Ames. I got many facets and you will definitively see them if you keep looking," she says coyly. That playfulness quickly evaporates when Ameiko's response to her earlier question seems to conjure something painful.

There's a shadow in Ameiko's eyes that Hana quite decipher and thought of it being some hidden hurt that she doesn't know about pains her deeply. Even so, Hana doesn't pry any further. It's not her place. "Right, of course. I understand."

Wanting to distract herself from that sad drama, Hana is almost glad when Yuto questions her abilities. "Oh yeah definitively. You just stab the goblins with the pointy end, right?" She says in jest before turning serious. "Don't worry, Yuto. It's like I said. I got many facets and one of them is being able to take care of myself in a fight."

Before leaving the Rusty Dragon with the rest of the group for the journey ahead Hana looks once more towards Ameiko and gives the bard a heartfelt smile. She wants to say finally admit everything and more but the words seem to get all caught up in throat. "Well... wish me luck, I mean, wish us luck," she blurts out, her face reddening.

Shelyn preserve me and my fragile love.

And with that she's out the door.

@GM Yep! Ready to venture forth.

Teruko pauses for the briefest second before nodding at Yuto's offer. "If you wouldn't mind, I would be very grateful. I suppose it comes as no surprise that I'm not used to heavy lifting. Particularly not in this heat." She hands her backpack to Yuto, (assuming he's still willing to carry it), and stands up noticeably straighter without the extra weight.

She hugs Ameiko back, then double-checks her crossbow one more time. It wouldn't do to get out there and find out the string was frayed! Busy with this task, she barely hears Hana's question or Ameiko's response.

Satisfied, she looks up at the others. "Ready to go when you are."

Rusty Dragon
Unfortunately, Hana does not get the bonus, because she runs out of the Rusty Dragon too fast for Ameiko to reply. Also because she got the bad roll out before anyone would die because of it.

On the Road
As the adventurers-to-be leave Sandpoint, they come across a young woman wearing dark clothing and with her hood up. She holds a remarkably well-crafted staff, with steel caps on either side, that she is using like a walking stick.

She stands before the iconic ‘Sandpoint sign,’ with its fragmented mirror and request: Welcome to Sandpoint! Please take a moment to see yourself as we see you.

The woman looks up at the group as they grow closer, revealing Tian features on a beautiful face, though her expression is somewhat guarded. She nods a greeting to them.

Perception DC 15:
Her dark eyes dart towards Teruko briefly.

Sense Motive DC 18, if the previous check succeeded:
A minute arch of her brow and a slight opening of her lips indicates that she is somewhat surprised to see Teruko. The expression vanishes quickly, however.

Intelligence DC 10 or Hana or Teruko:
The woman seems somehow… familiar.

Intelligence DC 20, Hana & Teruko get +5 circumstance bonus:
She seems to resemble Ameiko and Teruko a great deal. What’s going on here?

Teruko:
For the first time today, Lonjiku awakens, his presence practically overpowering compared to its usual state. ”It’s her! Why is she here?! She is supposed to be there! She’ll ruin everything!”

”Greetings.” She says softly. Her intonation is oddly emotionally distant, but courteous.

Teruko, you can read the DC 10 spoiler without rolling. Only the 20 (which is an extension of the 10, and thus would use the same roll) needs a roll for you.

The young woman tilts her head, as if wondering whether the group can help her. "Perhaps. Do you know where the graveyard is here?" She gestures with her free hand at Sandpoint.

All the Sandpoint locals do indeed know where the graveyard is.

How had Shalelu adjusted the armour, again? Was it this strap? By the time they had reached the bridge out of Sandpoint it was annoying Torra again, so she's a little distracted as they stop to greet the stranger. She does find her appearance familiar, was that because she was Tian and they had so many others in the group? Why were there so many Tian coming to Sandpoint recently, anyway? Was there a war in their home country and they were fleeing from it? A religious pilgrimage? Was that why she was asking about the cemetery?

"Um, across the bridge, take the road north through the town and then turn right, you should see the big cathedral. The graveyard is behind that."

Hana eyes the mystery women and clearly sees that she's not only looking intently at Teruko but is also quite surprised to see her at all.

The staring puts Hana on edge, but she doesn't allow it to reach her face. Instead she gives the Tian woman a hopefully disarming smile. "Hello there! My friend over here is quite right. Once you hit the cathedral you can't miss it and Naffer our caretaker will help you out once you get there," she says helpfully. "Name's Hana by the way. Are you coming from Magnimar by chance?"

Okay, sorry that this was unclear. The two Intelligence DCs were intended for the same roll. Hana and Teruko could both read the first spoiler without making the roll, and could make the modified roll for the second one. I'll try to be clearer in the future.

The Tian woman hesitates, examining Hana with dark eyes. "I came from Magnimar, yes." She says after a few moments. "It is... good to meet you, Hana." The formality of the phrase seems definitely artificial - more from societal expectation than from any genuine feelings.

She looks away from the group briefly, her eyes going to Sandpoint. "A relative died here some time ago. I am going to visit a grave."

Teruko:
Lonjiku's fury surges at these words and he lets out a string of curses.

Sense Motive DC 18:

As the mysterious stranger makes her way into town, Hana nods at Yuto's words. "Same," she agrees, somewhat frustrated that she can't put a face to the women's familiarity. "There was definitively something more going on there, but we don't have time to stand here and sort it out. Arika and those adventurers need us."

"Fare well." The woman says, resuming her journey towards Sandpoint. "Thank you for your directions." The words come from over her shoulders even as she trudges down towards the bridge.

With that, the group begin their travels southwards. Due to the relatively slow speed they must keep, as well as the tremendous heat, things go south (both literally and metaphorically) fairly swiftly, as Yuto, Teruko, and Torra feel the first signs of heatstroke, their bodies slowly overheating underneath the baleful sun.

He then blinks in surprise.

In fact, I do believe I can, for the moment.

"Everyone, gather round." He steps into the midst of the heat-wracked group and bows his head in prayer, with one hand on his jade crescent moon.

"Holy Prince Tsukiyo, your humble servant beseeches you; bless us with but a moment of your blessed moonlight."

As Seishin completes his prayer, his jade moon glows with a soft ethereal green light that billows outward.

Walking through the heat in the unfamiliar armour was unpleasant, but no worse than some of the more rigorous training sessions with Sabyl. Despite the humidity and the heat not affecting her personally, Hana still appreciated the serene feeling of Seishin's healing green light and the cool breeze that came with it. "Thank you, Seishin. Much appreciated," she says kindly.

Teruko has been silent on the journey, concentrating more on putting one foot in front of the other than on conversing with her companions. She does focus her attention long enough to answer Yuto's question. "A number of our employees at the Glassworks were of Tian descent, so perhaps she was related to one of them. She does look familiar." Not that something as simple as a business relationship would explain her father's anger. Usually he reserved that level of fury for family-

Oh.

Thinking further on this now might be unwise. She could not afford to be distracted.

"Most likely her...relative...died during the goblin raids four years ago." Teruko looks straight ahead as she keeps walking. "It would no doubt only bring up unpleasant memories to inquire further."

When they take their first break, Teruko sighs in relief at Seishin's channel. "Thank you, Seishin. That is much better." She can't imagine how hot she would be were she actually wearing her armored coat, and is somewhat impressed by Hana's ability to ignore the heat despite being in armor. "Hopefully it will be cooler once we're in the swamp itself." She has no idea if that's true, but it's a convenient thought to keep her going.

Which is fortunate, because Seishin's blessing does not last long. By the time they reach the fork in the road, Teruko's cheeks are bright red and her head is starting to pound.
