The sleepy village of Heldren has rarely seen so much excitement or concern. Hunters from the nearby Border Wood speak of unnaturally cold weather at the height of summer that descended on the forest just days ago. Heavy snow followed, and those who returned spoke of an uneasy presence in the woods, as well as new, dangerous predators. No one knows what this event means, but the town’s soothsayer, Old Mother Theodora, claims dark times lie ahead. As if in proof of that dire prophecy, a badly wounded mercenary arrived in town yesterday, claiming to be a bodyguard of Lady Argentea Malassene. He told the village council that the noblewoman’s escort came under attack by bandits and strange, wintry creatures near the edge of the Border Wood. He alone escaped, and Lady Argentea was dragged away into the forest. Now the townsfolk cast fearful eyes toward the snowy forest, worried what else might emerge to threaten their peaceful village.

Heldrin being only a little over a hundred citizen's had no standing guard force to respond to any threats. It would take too long to send to the local Lord for assistance, though that would be part of the agenda. An emergency meeting of the Town Council has been called to plan a reaction. Word has gone out that they will likely call for volunteers to investigate and handle things.

Word travels fast in a small village.

It has reached your ears.

Welcome to The Reign of Winter

Male Chaotic Good Snowcaster Elf Skald (Twilight Speaker) 6

Kuroredimer Iosana, better known to the people of Haldren by his chosen sobriquet, Rimesong, lightly taps his feet to clean the snow off of them as he enters into the less snowy parts of the village. Though the locals have good reason to fear the forest as it is, it is a reminder of home, in many ways.

But on to more important things… no one deserves to be abducted and held against their will, not even the oblivious and arrogant nobles of this land. The Ilverani’s staff taps lightly against the ground as he makes his way to the town hall. If I can help, I will. The fact that this inquiry into the forest may allow me to investigate this unnatural weather is simply an additional benefit. He pauses, glancing back. Findeladlara, is this why I am so far south?

Opening the door, Rimesong enters the hall - trying to avoid the commotion his appearance sometimes brings to the people of Haldren, who rarely see elves, let alone elves from the Crown of the World. He approaches someone nearby. ”Has anything of note happened here yet?” He asks, his tone polite.

Any other PC is welcome to respond to Rimesong.

Busily knocking the excess snow from his boots, precariously leaning on a frosty wooden post, absently chewing on some jerky; a wilderness-colored gnome watches the commotion unfolding in the small town of Heldrin.
Sounding like these folk expecting an Apocalypse.

An absent sound answers the gnome.

Turning his blue eyes back behind him; a bit of slip on the frosty post, he spies his companion busy rummaging through an outhouse, hidden in some thick (snow-covered) foliage.
Sticking half inside is a giant red ant, the happy chittering sounds echoing outside.
Whenever you are finished? We have an opportunity before us! Let's be heroes!

Hefting his pack over a shoulder, checking a machete on his waist, the brown-furred gnome begins approaching the expecting crowd. The Ant decides to follow behind to watch this freakshow.

No need to fear! Barnaby Bastien Bridge--and Ant-iciaption are here for your wintry woes!

The gnome smiles; arm draped across the Ant.

The tall man approached the Council from a side bench. Covered in plated armor with shield and sword hanging from his back, some of the townsfolk had met him already. As he spoke, his voice sounded hoarse but comforting as a firepit in a cold night, or a caring blanket.

Good evening, my good folk. My name is Kandoo Krom. - he started - Would you be able to identify these creatures, or describe them? Where was your charge traveling to?

While referring to the kidnapped noblewoman, it felt as if he tried to show concern by others who could have suffered a similar fate.

... And, finally, would you be able to take me to where you were ambushed by the bandits and the wintry things?

As he completed, the gestures made clear that Kandoo was covered in the holy symbols of Sarenrae - and while his voice and actions were a reassurance of the good in the Paladin, there was something about him that would never settle: his swift demonic features. Little horns through the hair, eyes with shades of red, and a spiked always moving tail wouldn't let him hide the fact he was a tiefling.

Paladin/6

Tegan tucks her chin into the scarf looped around her neck. She’d warm up as more people crowded in. Which, she figured, would be most of the town. The weather was important to farmers like her Aunt Elin.

The longer Tegan observed the crowd, the more interesting the individuals became. A gnome with an enlarged ant cheerfully announced their presence to the crowd. A tiefling paladin of Sarenrae stepped forward towards the council, from Tegan's perspective, to single-handedly attempt to earn reparations on Lady Argenta's honor. Tegan wasn’t sure if these individuals had recently moved to Heldren or if they’d perhaps always lived near the Border Wood. Probably not the Paladin. Maybe the gnome and his ant companion... Tegan was there for the emergency meeting but couldn't resist studying the ant (from a distance.)

Tegan’s gray eyes look into the elf’s icy blue ones, then roam to the staff and other weapons on their person. “I’ve just recently arrived myself, but I hope this emergency town meeting will answer a lot of questions. Maybe ask for volunteers.” She holds out a gloved hand, “I’m Tegan. Are you… an adventurer?” Tegan gives a small smile to be cordial.

Male Chaotic Good Snowcaster Elf Skald (Twilight Speaker) 6

Rimesong eyes the gnome and his ant with a slightly raised brow. Not the strangest thing I've seen since coming south, especially where gnomes are concerned. He glances briefly at the paladin, his eyes narrowing slightly. A fiend-touched, who is sworn to the Dawnflower... I suppose she is the goddess of redemption, though.

Concerning, perhaps, that he would find his way here... but perhaps reassuring as well. I don't know enough about the local area or about fighting to handle myself alone... not yet, at any rate. The twilight speaker finally returns his attention to the woman he'd approached. "Tegan." He says, his Taldane accented with flavors from across the north. He extends his hand to shake hers, reasonably sure that the southerners' strange etiquette demanded it.

"It is a pleasure to meet you, Tegan. I am called Rimesong. As to whether I am an adventurer..." Rimesong shrugs slightly, gesturing with his staff at his bow. "Perhaps some would call me that. I prefer to think of myself as a... wanderer, I suppose." He smiles. "You are seeking answers?"

Tegan retreats her hand and arm to the warmth of her traveling cloak. ”A wanderer,” Tegan reiterates, reflecting on the word. She smiles wider this time, “that’s delightfully poetic. I’ve traveled a bit myself, but never outside of Taldor.”

Rimesong wrote:
He smiles. "You are seeking answers?"

“I’m hoping to find out more, yes.” Tegan didn’t feel comfortable going into more detail about her personal life with a near-stranger - albeit, a seemingly amicable one.

She takes the conversation a different route than she would with a friend. “A noble’s mercenary returning alone is unexpected. I might be naïve in thinking this, but it seems like a decent-paying, respectable profession. A profession in which hires are carefully vetted.” Tegan’s eyes are drawn back to the AOUS (Ant of Unusual Size) in continued interest. “So, I think we should expect a threat above a mercenary’s paygrade.”

Barnaby looks over the crowd. The gnome views mostly locals; farmers, a butcher, a baker. Ant-iciapation does point out a Candlestick maker even flickering about the building.
Nonplussed that his announcement hasn't really garnered much excitement, the still grinning gnome--and his Giant Ant begin to make their way down to the front row of seating.
Passing a smartly dressed human woman--the hood of her velvet traveling cloak and style of her riding gloves, marking her as possible nobility, he notices her eyes swarm over Ant-iciaption a few times.
Always a hit with the Ladies, my chittering friend.

Barnaby stops next to her and the Snow Elf that she has been conversing with, since he strutted in.

Smiling up at them, the wilderness attired gnome offers out a brown-furred gloved hand.
Please to meet you fine upstanding folks! I am Barnaby Bastien Bridge. This most proper companion of mine is Ant-iciaption. We have come to rid this Wintery mess from the area!

The gnome then looks about.

"Ah, Taldor..." Rimesong pauses as the dwarf enters the town hall. Interesting. I wonder what he knows about the ambush. Or is he looking for answers as much as I am?

"Of all the places I've been since I left my home, I must admit Taldor is unique." The Ilverni muses, returning his attention to Tegan. "Not always in a good way, but better than some places." He flicks an ear as he remembers Cheliax.

"But regardless, I hope there are enough volunteers - you are right that there is likely something quite threatening in the forest... though it looks like there are already several volunteers."

As Barnaby approaches, Rimesong shakes his hand, reaching rather far down to do so. "A pleasure, Barnaby." He says. "You may call me Rimesong." He looks at the giant ant curiously. "If you are looking to go into the forest, I hope your companion is able to weather the cold."

He smiles at the suggestion he might be in charge. "No, I am not from here. I have no authority over what happens here."

Tegan feels her face warm when the gnome notices her staring and approaches. She follows Rimesong in shaking Barnaby’s hand, although she doesn’t have to bend over quite as much. “Tegan.”

Ylena is shivering a little by the time she makes it into the hall. Even her warmest cloak can't seem to block out the unseasonable cold completely. It's the shock of it. No gradual decrease in temperature, just a sudden snow in the middle of the summer. I'll adjust.

It's easy to see Ylena's Varisian heritage at a glance. Her tight bodice and loose skirt, both in colorful shades of red, are in a style not often seen in Taldor. (Although the practical brown cloak was probably bought right here in Heldren.) A red headscarf over loose dark hair and dangling gold earrings complete the look. Her most striking feature is her eyes, a piercing, pale blue that stand out in an otherwise unremarkable face.

Glancing around, she sees fewer people than she'd expected. It seems her father's lament that 'half the town' had gone crazy was a bit of an exaggeration. Then again, perhaps she shouldn't be surprised. It's one thing to say, (over a mug of ale or three), that you'll brave the Border Wood and whatever lurks there to rescue the fine Lady Argentea. It's quite another to wake up with a hangover, drag yourself out of bed, and actually do it.

Many of the people she does see are strangers. A colorful gnome with...is that a giant ant behind him?! An elf paler than any she's ever seen. An armored tiefling, a paladin of Sarenrae judging by the symbols. (Ylena herself has no particular devotion to Sarenrae, but would be grateful for the company of a patron of the goddess of fire.) A dwarf is already trying to chat with the local authorities about the ambush before the meeting has even officially begun. And one face she does recognize, which fills her with relief.

"Tegan! I should have known you'd be here. How is your aunt doing, I can't imagine this weather has been good for the chickens." She walks up to the small group, smiling at the gmome and elf she'd noticed earlier. "Hello friends, I'm Ylena. What brings you all to our small town? Have rumors of the strange goings-on traveled further than I thought?"

Ylena’s voice startles Tegan. She tenses from the unexpected surprise, then relaxes realizing it’s Ylena.

“Hi Ylena.” If Tegan was pink from being caught staring, she was absolutely red as a mushroom cap now. “Oh, yes, my Aunt is quite well. Frustrated by the weather, I think. But with a bit of growth magic she’ll be able to pickle most of it.”

Eager to get the attention off of herself in the growing crowd, Tegan scoots over to make space for Ylena to join.

Male Chaotic Good Snowcaster Elf Skald (Twilight Speaker) 6

Rimesong blinks at Ylena's sudden arrival. A Varisian, this far south? I suppose they're prone to wandering. He laughs softly, shaking his head. I'm hardly one to talk, though. I'm still not used to how often it changes from day to night this far south.

Realizing he'd been neglecting the Varisian, he inclines his head with a small smile. "Rimesong. I've been in the area for a time, so I doubt it has reached so far as you think."

The unusual weather was the topic of all the gossip. And whispers in the town hall has the meeting began. Instead of the over hundred degree temperatures that came with being this far south in mid summer , in town...about 6 miles from the Border wood it was hovering in the 40's.

Every step towards the cold area, which had began as a few hundred yards in the center and within a week was now a circle of about 10 miles. That area was blanketed with heavy snow. Every mile towards Heldrin saw less and less of the white blanket with a gradual rise in temperature from below 30. Degrees to the mid 40's.

As the Dwarven priest enters the three council members; Ionnia Teppen the wealthiest person in town...her family owning most the land, Mother Theodora, a soothsayer and the eldest woman in town, and the the halv-elven priest of the only temple in the village The Elder Natharen Safander, servant of Erastil. Ionnia nodded and meeting the Dwarves eyes for a second started so as you all are aware A pocket of unearthly winter weather has recently appeared in the Border Wood, and a rider from Zimar arrived in town yesterday, badly injured and suffering from severe frostbite, bearing ominous tidings. The rider, an Ulfen mercenary is one Yuln Oerstag, he was part of the guard escorting Lady Argentea Malassene from Zimar to Oppara for her marriage to a wealthy Taldoran Duke. As the caravan skirted the Border Wood, however, the noblewoman’s carriage came under attack by bandits and strange, wintry creatures. Lady Argentea was carried off, and Yuln was the only one to escape. He is badly wounded, but he has been able to describe the horrific creatures that attacked the noblewoman’s party. A native of the far north, Yuln recognized some of the icy creatures that emerged from the forest, and the tales he shared with the council has everyone rightly concerned. Sir Dwarf, do you have anything to add to this? Does anyone here have any further information for the council?

Drawing himself up to his towering 4' frame, Rodger looks around.

There be not much that I can add. I came upon the site late in the afternoon and was not aware of a survivor.
But what I could see from a first look over was 3 armed men were killed in an ambush,
Any further info will have to have someone look it over better and not in a rush.
The Makers creed will have me stand forth to assist if needed.

He then leans on a chair back as he waits for the meeting to continue.

Male Chaotic Good Snowcaster Elf Skald (Twilight Speaker) 6

Hm... three armed men. A group that could kill them might be a trifle troubling - but less so than a single creature that could do the same. The threat is clearly gone, though, if he was able to investigate the site, however briefly. Rimesong considers for a few moments. I wonder what manner of creatures they were... and from how far north this Yuln is. If anything from the Crown of the World is here, then things are bad indeed. On the other hand, from the sound of his name, he is likely Ulfen... But I still wouldn't want anything from the Lands of the Linnorm Kings here.

"I, too, would assist." He says, projecting his voice clearly through the hall with the experience of many years. The elf taps his staff lightly on the floor. "I have... some experience with such weather as that which is in the forest."

"I'll have to let Titia know to try pickling. She's done it before, but I don't think she was prepared to do it this close to midsummer..." She trails off seeing the blank expressions on Rimesong's and Barnaby's faces. "Excuse me, I'm forgetting my manners. Titia's my stepmother. We have a farm approximately a mile west of here, but we couldn't have anticipated snow this time of year!"

'Are you so sure we couldn't have anticipated it?' The Harrow's whispers aren't whispers, exactly. Ylena doesn't hear actual voices. But the meaning is still clear.

Not now. Later.

Tegan, (or anyone else particularly perceptive), might notice her hands reaching into her pocket for the cards. She touches them, briefly, then carefully folds her hands in front of herself. Now is not the time to start shuffling. No Reading is imminent...yet.

"I'm afraid I have no information regarding what is happening in our woods." She bows her head, no longer looking anyone in the eye. "However, those of you who recognize me might remember that I regularly read the Harrow. The cards suggest that Lady Malassene is in fact alive. I recognize that many of you do not believe in such tidings, but I believe a rescue mission might recover her...as well as determine what is happening in the Border Woods."

She tenses slightly, clearly expecting some mockery. The same people who appeal to a fortuneteller to inform their future or let them know if a girl they like feels the same are often all too quick to cry 'Charlatan!' when it pleases them.

"Of course, whether you believe me or no, our friend the dwarf has the right of it. Rescue mission or information gathering; both would benefit from the insight of the lone survivor."

Nice to meet you, Rorgar. I am called Kandoo, as some of the present might already know, and I am a Paladin of the Everlight. Do you know how the men died...? As in, were they clawed, mauled, or did you see weapon cuts, or burning marks? It would be great if you could be troubled to guide us back to the site. - says the tiefling, then turning to Ionnai - And, before that... Can we talk to Yuln? What did he say about such wintry creatures?

It seems I was writing together with Ylena :)

Rimesong nods slightly, his lips quirking in amusement. Impatient as ever. Snow falls and the daylight dies, indeed... Nevertheless, he speaks. "Speaking to... Yuln," he still is somewhat uncomfortable referring to people by name, he realizes, especially if they have not introduced themselves, "would be wise."

The Snowcaster elf looks around the hall, before glancing back up to the leadership. "It seems you have volunteers to investigate this matter, and perhaps to perform a rescue operation, if it proves possible. May we speak to him?"

I did not take the time to determine the cause of death. I felt that advising people that this happened so close was more important.
Plus I was not sure if the ambushers were still near, so a foray in force would be better.
And yes, I will lead back to the ambush site.

With that, Rorgar asks for an ale.

Male Chaotic Good Snowcaster Elf Skald (Twilight Speaker) 6

Rimesong glances at Rorgar, somewhat bemused. I know the dwarves of Highhelm enjoyed their alcohol, but is this really the time to drink? He tilts his head slightly. It probably won't hurt him, nor his chances of being helpful to any investigation - unless he drains a barrel.

The boreal elf looks at Ylena, a gentle smile gracing his lips as he realizes that she is distressed. Approaching her, he speaks softly. "While I remember a time when prophecy was more reliable than it is now..." He begins. "You should trust your instincts when it comes to foretellings. Keep an open mind, but follow your heart."

There. I've given her some advice. Whether she takes it is her own business. Rimesong wonders what his people would think of his choice to offer a human guidance. Snow falls and the daylight dies, it is said... but perhaps some can be trusted not to do things that are immediately foolish. Besides, if we do not help those in need when we can, what would we be? The thought makes him smile somewhat sadly. Even if they don't listen our wisdom.

Still, niggling doubts linger at the back of his mind.

Why would we need writs? Rimesong runs a thumb along one of the ridges carved into his staff, examining Ionnia for a moment before mentally shrugging. I suppose it is simply their need for structure... again.

He looks to his fellow volunteers. "To the Apothecary or the office first?"

To the office first, I'd say. Better to formalize it all before we start our quest, my friends. - says the Paladin with a smile - I feel the burning righteousness of our path. Praise the sun.

It might be faster too, so once we talk to Yuln we'd be "free" to hit the site.

"Agreed, assuming you're headed there yourself Councilor?" It would not do to waste time waiting at the office if Ionnia had other plans.

As they walk Ylena shuffles her Harrow deck and draws a card. Not a true reading of course, but she could often get a sense of how the day was going to go based on a single draw. As she flips the card over she grimaces. The Uprising. No card was ever truly good or bad, of course. They were portents only, symbols of things that might be. But the whispers of this card, given what they plan to do, seem ominous.

"We need to be particularly careful out there." She holds out the card so the others can see. "The Uprising represents a force much, much stronger than the person receiving the reading. It is not a card I would expect to see when going after some bandits. Whatever these 'strange wintery creatures' are, they must be extremely dangerous."

Rimesong mutters something to himself in strangely accented Elven, before closing his eyes briefly and taking a quiet breath.

Elven:
"Cling to the hand when the blizzard blinds... Findeladlara guide me."

He opens his icy eyes once more, scanning the group quietly. "A friend is simply an enemy who has not revealed himself..." I wonder if that is what her portent means? Some sort of betrayal? Worth consideration, certainly.

The Ilverani finally speaks. "An omen is what you make of it. We should be cautious, regardless. Sometimes the greatest challenge is not one's foes, but the environment one finds them in."

Good idea! One ale for the road.

Ant-iciapation chitters happily.

Once the round is downed, Barnaby--and his Ant--shoulder their gear; ready to follow the group to the Offices; then Willowbook Apothecary...

Rorgar tips back the ale fast, then shoulders his gear again, and makes his way to the office first.

I hope the survivor is aware when we get there.

Paladin/6

Tegan brings up the rear as they head to the office first.

Perception: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (14) + 2 = 16

Knowledge (Local): 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (5) + 4 = 9

As the group leaves the council area the townsfolk can be heard talking...

Rimesong:
Did you hear that Farmer Wilburson's son took ill recently? They say He has Lung Disease. He fell into the ice at Wishbone creek, caught his death of cold. Rumor has it his dad says the boy was muttering feverishly about seeing a Large White Talking Stag.

Kandoo,Rogar,Tegan:
The Rangers of The Borderwood, Called 'The High Sentinels', have been strangely absent in recent times. Noone has seen any of them in a couple weeks. They are supposed to keep the wood clear of Bandits...obviously that hasnt been done

Ylena:
Rumor has it Lady Argentea was being sent away to an arranged marriage of state and she was none to happy about it

Barnaby:
Ill bet you anything Qadiran Agents are behind this weather. It be just like them to cause problems foir us along the border

It takes no time to go to Ionnia's hone office and get their names written in a book for the powers that be to know what was done and who was sent off to investigate. An official document is provided that says they are authorized representatives of Hedron.

The the group goes to The Willowbrook Apothecary. They are lead back by Ionnia to a back room where the Mercenary is lying on a cot. His blonde hair pulled away from his face for ease of combat, but hangs down to his mid back. His face is all purple and red. His nose looks like dead flesh. his hands and feet are heavily bandaged. His collarbone looks broke and he has a couple bandaged arrow wounds His pircing blue eyes look bloodshot. He tries to sit up but cannot get the energy and slumps back down.

Ionnia says. Yuln? These folks are going to go in after Lady Argentea, What can you share with them?

The Warrior looks at them and says through half frozen lips Would That I could go with you. My Ancestors would ridicule my lack of valor for fleeing rather than fighting to the end. But I faced enemies that even the greatest warriors in the Linnorm Kingdoms have faltered against. Though I think I slew at least one of them before Lady Argentea was dragged away.

Male Chaotic Good Snowcaster Elf Skald (Twilight Speaker) 6

A talking white stag? Curiouser and curiouser. I doubt it's associated with Erastil, given the current circumstances... Rimesong ponders this as the group goes to the office.
Knowledge (religion) - Stag: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (10) + 6 = 16

He glances over the document, before shaking his head slightly. The obsession with rigidity here is strong and strange. Not as strange as their days and nights, but still... strange.

When they arrive at the Willowbrook Apothecary, Rimesong looks at the broken and frost-bitten man. "Can you tell us," he asks, "what exactly attacked you? Icy creatures, yes, but what manner?"

Paladin/6

As the group is leaving the council, Tegan overhears a bit of townsfolk gossip. She makes a mental note of the overheard conversation.

-

Tegan waits patiently as Ionnia Teppen prepares the necessary paperwork. I didn’t realize we needed power from the council to investigate this further. Is this a customary procedure for all adventurers? She thoroughly reads over the legalese before signing. She and the others would have official authority to investigate the strange phenomena and Lady Argentea Malassene’s kidnapping, but Tegan was pessimistic about the legal weight of the power they’d just been given. The power seemed superficial since it came from a small village of only 171 occupants. If the investigation led them to a bigger township, Tegan wasn’t convinced their newfound authority would be upheld.

“And why would these creatures kidnap Lady Argentea instead of simply killing her? Did the bandits broker some kind of deal with these icy creatures? …There… were bandits there, right?” That’s what the initial gossip had led Tegan to believe and Tegan was justifiably concerned bandits might try to raid Heldrin.

What Knowledge roll could Tegan make to find out more about Linnorm Kingdoms?

Ylena stands back, letting her steady gaze focus on the man in front of her. Beings even 'the greatest warriors' would falter against do not sound promising. "How many of you were there? And how many enemies?" She hesitates, realizing how unsympathetic she sounds, and tries to soften her voice. "I am sure your ancestors would understand. Had you not survived, no one would have known what had happened or that Lady Argentea had been taken."

When Rimesong asked what they faced he answered deliberately We thought they were just bandits at first—outlaws who hide like wolves in the forest. They were no match for us. But then came the cold fey of the north. They appeared among us and the battle turned quickly. My people speak of the winter-touched all the time, but I never expected to meet them this far south.”

Then Tegan followed with a question of her own and his answer was I don’t know. But if one of the White Witches took her, no good shall come of it. The winter-touched do nothing without the leave of those who placed the ice in their hearts. If they’re here, it’s because a White Witch sent them. And much worse will follow.”...yes there were bandits. It's not unlike the Winter Witches of the north to ally themselves with human predators.

And to Ylena he answered there were 6 of us guards, Lady Argentea, her maidservant and her personal advisor of the foe there were about 20 bandits plus about 10 winter touched....he paused when Ylena gives him reason to be thankful he escaped. He nods thoughtfully

Male Chaotic Good Snowcaster Elf Skald (Twilight Speaker) 6

Rimesong frowns slightly at the new information. "Cold fey... that sounds troublesome. An ear twitches slightly as he considers how to best tackle the problem facing them. "White Witches, hm... I bypassed Irrisen on my way south, but everything I've heard of them has been... uncomplimentary."

Truly, if I had gone there first, I do not believe I would have held out any hope for the younger peoples. The Snowcaster looks at the others before turning back to Yuln. "Is there anything else you can tell us about these fey? Do they have different weaknesses than others of their kind?"

At Ylena's words, Rimesong sighs inwardly, disappointed in himself. I forget that this sort of thing helps them... I should try harder to be more verbally compassionate in the future.

He nods at Rimesongs mention of Irrisen and says The White Witches are the prodigy of The Witch Hag, Baba Yaga. They are Matrons of Domination who rule with an Icy heart. The Winter Touched are harmed by Cold Iron and Burning Flame. They fear both.

How many of the bandits did the guards take down before you left to bring word of the attack?

Rorgar takes a breath, I will leave mention of fey and ice witches to those more in the know, as I know not of such things. But we now know more and what we need.

He looks at the others
We should check with the smith if he has cold iron.

I missed that roll for perception check. So I guess I was looking at my toes. :)

Fey and Bandits and Witches, oh my! I think we should start small..

The small gnome smiles.

...investigate the ambush site. Passing by the Smithy is a good call. Although, I am broke because I suddenly had the use of Thieves' Tools.

The Giant Ant chitters at Barnaby.
Oh, and can someone loan us a bit of gold for a fur coat for Ant-iciapation?

Short 8gp for Winter outfit for him...lol.

Tegan is mostly silent but offers her opinion when she thinks it'll be beneficial. "A cold-iron longsword for our paladin would be prudent."

"I can lend you the coin." Tegan reaches inside of her traveling cloak where a pouch is tied securely to her waist. She procures eight gold coins, extending her hand to drop them into Barnaby's palm. She'd feel guilty if something preventable happened to the creature.

I made a note on Tegan's character sheet.

These are troubling news... But we should have suspected fey and the likes were involved in the story.

He breathed deeply, remembering his own past - and hiding his own founding.

The witched, though, peak my interest even more! What would they want her for? We should pray for the rays to shine the Sun in our path, and go investigate the site hastily.

Finishing up the questioning the group moves to leave Willowbrooks Apothecary and The Elf Tessaraea Willowbarkm the owner calls the group over and says simply. This may help you. An hands each of them a glas flask with a oily reddish liquid inside that appears to be bubbling. She says Alchemists Fire, might be useful

Paladin/6

Tegan takes the glass flask offered to her and stores it in a side pouch. "Thank you. I'm sure Alchemist's Fire will be useful where we're headed." Tegan lifts the hood of her traveling cloak over her head so it covers her head, then exits Willowbrooks Apothecary with the others.

Added Alchemist's Fire to inventory.
