DM Deevor |
Iustanus, you still get your 3 actions and you need to make a straight 1d20 roll to see if the condition ends after your turn, DC=15.
Renvi needs to also make a straight 1d20 roll to see if the condition ends at the end of his turn, DC=15.
Persistent damage comes from effects like acid, being on fire, or many other situations. Instead of taking persistent damage immediately, you take it at the end of each of your turns as long as you have the condition, rolling any damage dice anew each time. After you take persistent damage, roll a DC 15 flat check to see if you recover from the persistent damage. If you succeed, the condition ends.
That's for damage, not for conditions applied, e.g. reduced sight.
Renvi easily jumps over the fungi with a flourish.
1 - Emory, 2 - Lande 1d2 ⇒ 2
The gold fungi suddenly erupts, sending more spores into the air, before scutling away, turning and firing a seed pod Lande. 1d20 ⇒ 14 damage 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5HPs plus a fort save The pod lands flat in Lande's face, blackening his eye and exploding into another bunch of poisonous spores.
The red one follows suit, running away from the Pathfinders, before it explodes in another cloud of poisonous spores.
So I need 2 Fort saves from Lande, and 1 fort save from everyone else.
The poison in the spores sting your eyes, please roll 1d4 for persistent damage.
You can only see 20ft, irrespective of darkvision, lowlight or normal
vision.
If you are have persistent poison twice roll the damage twice and take the worse result.
Round 2 - You are all up again.
Emory Gunter:
Iustanus: Damage 1, persistent poison
Lande : Damage 5
Renvi : Damage 2, persistent poison

DM Deevor |
Renvi needs a round 2 Fort Save ...
Iustanus is up
The gold fungi, skips to the side of Emory's electricity spell, almost laughing as it does. It bumps into the copper fungi in it's dance and pushes the fungi into Emory's spear's trajectory. With the spear pinning it to the ground, the fungi is unable to get out of the way of the dwarf's frenzied attack. The copper fungi erupts in a cloud of poisonous spores as Lande's axe bites into its body. The copper fungi dead in a pool of green liquid, that just sinks to the bottom of the slimy pool.
Renvi feels the power of her dance, infuse her with insights as she finds the fungi's weak spots. 1 Panache
Everyone another fort save please, so that will be 2 from Iustanus and Renvi.
Gold Reflex 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (16) + 7 = 23
Copper Dead
Iustanus |
Round I
Stride 15 fr
Acrobatics 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 2 = 5
Action 2 and 3
He focuses on a loose stone that he sees and chucks it at the gold fungus
1d20 + 7 ⇒ (14) + 7 = 21
1d6 + 4 ⇒ (1) + 4 = 5 bludeoning
FLAT ROLL 1d20 ⇒ 19
DM Deevor |
The creature moves up the corridor and fires at Iustanus, 1d20 ⇒ 7 Watching it miss. There is a small puff of spores as the creature gets over his disappointment and fires again 1d20 - 5 ⇒ (6) - 5 = 1 But once again it misses it's mark.
You are all up.
Emory Gunter |
Renvi discharges her hand crossbow upon the creature!
Hand Crossbow Strike: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (13) + 6 = 19
Damage: 1d6 ⇒ 4
Renvi reloads the hand crossbow
And attacks a second time.
Hand Crossbow Strike: 1d20 + 6 - 5 ⇒ (10) + 6 - 5 = 11
Iustanus |
Seeing that the fungus creature is attacking him, he concentrates and manifests a hand full of flame that he chucks at it
1d20 + 7 ⇒ (11) + 7 = 18 flaming sphere
1d4 + 4 ⇒ (2) + 4 = 6 fire damage
and then he casts shield on himself.
DM Deevor |
The creature reels from all the damage done, Iustanus' rubbish that was thrown at it, then when both spellcasters sent fire into it's body. The dwarven ranger breathes heavily as he chases the thing, unable to catch it with his axe. A bolt hits the thing, it is hanging onto life by a thread. It steps away from the ranger and tries to hit the nasty folks sending fire at it. First a pod is sent at Iustanus, 1d20 ⇒ 11 then sending the next to Emory 1d20 - 5 ⇒ (8) - 5 = 3 Unfortunately, even the magical shield doesn't stop the pod from hitting the sorcerer, who takes damage 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5 plus a fort save (as above) The second shot at Emory flies wide.
The fungi, in the grips of death On 1HP ... is unable to stop the ongoing assault from the Pathfinders and as it dies, it sends a cloud of poisonous spores into the air.
Iustanus I need two fort saves from you and for Lande one fort save
Combat over ...
DM Deevor |
The way is clear to move forward, to move the stone door and enter the chamber beyond. But Renvi stops the group as she spots something glinting in the corner of the slimy ooze. You find 8gps worth of silver, that was at some time molten before it cooled.
You roll the stone door to the side to enter the next chamber, as you do you hear the sound of air rushing into the chamber.
This cavernous chamber seems to have been used for an academic purpose. Large stone tables are arranged in a rough square around the center of the room, with giant-sized stone stools and chairs throughout. The eastern wall is covered by an amazingly intricate mural painting, the colors and details preserved in the sealed environment. In the walls, shelves contain rotted scroll tubes and worm-eaten books, although a few shelves seem to contain thin sheets of stone in haphazard piles. In an alcove, a large glass orb about a foot in diameter rests on a pillar. On the floor, the original tiled mosaic has been hacked and defaced, covered with crude painted depictions of flame and a single unblinking eye.
As outside air swirls into the room for the first time in centuries, creeping discoloration begins to spread across the murals and writings before your very eyes. The fog of history will undoubtedly reclaim them once again, and soon.
Across the dark chamber on the southern wall, Lande can see writing in what could be several scripts or languages. None of which make any sense to him. For the rest of the party, the wall is hidden in the darkness.
You must record and recover what you can immediately, before critical details are lost to history.
See new map....
More information to come but this is a quick introduction so you can prepare a little for this section of the scenario.
Soon you will be asked to spend a round to do research or some other action. Each round will last an hour. So you can spend an hour to gain research points, or spend an hour healing your party members or something else. As you do research, I will want to know how you are doing it and what physical interaction you have with the object you are researching.
For now you can react to the initial opening of the chamber

Tags: CONCENTRATION EXPLORATION LINGUISTIC
You comb through information to learn more about the topic at hand. Choose your research topic, section of the library, or other division depending on the form of research, and attempt a skill check. The skills to use and the DC for the check depend on the choice you made.
Critical Success You gain 2 RP.
Success You gain 1 RP.
Critical Failure You make a false discovery and lose 1 RP.
Iustanus |
After the group is done resting (if that is what they do) after their encounter, he will look up dragons on the library and take his notes.
1d20 + 3 ⇒ (17) + 3 = 20 dragon lore
DM Deevor |
Iustanus and Renvi walk to the writings on the wall opposite and take in the strange markings. Taking some time, they recognise that amongst all the writing are words written in Draconic. They pull Emory and Lande over, pointing at the words they soon discover, Emory and Lande are unable to read any of the languages written on the wall.
Iustanus translates the words from Draconic, 'The enlightened follow the light into darkness.' Iustanus quickly understands that the contents of the library are written in the languages seen on the wall, being able to understand one these languages, Draconic, would allow a character to conduct research on any written artifacts.
So how can Lande and Emory understand Draconic or any of the other languages?....
Unfortunately, the unsealing of the doorway has now exposed the materials inside this room to the outside air for the first time in perhaps millennia, and the images and texts are quickly oxidizing!
And as a result, for each hour that passes, the information available becomes progressively harder to discern, until the site is no longer able to be studied due to complete oxidization!
Each 'Round' is actually 1 hour of research.
There are three different areas that you can study... Each has a certain maximum number of successes that you can achieve via studying it (essentially, 'hit points').
Map-Mural of Koloran
There is a large 40-foot painted mural on the western wall, that seems to contain various small scenes that show some of the Koloran Empire’s important moments in history. The colours seem very vivid for a mural of this age, which seems most unusual.
Research Checks: Art Lore, Society, Occultism
Stone Tablets of Ai’Sheen
A collection of thin hexagonal sheets of basalt lie heaped against the south-eastern , chiseled in many languages, including Draconic, by the cyclops seer Ai’Sheen
Research Checks: Abyss Lore, Academia Lore, or Library Lore, Occultism, Arcana or Religion
To do this one, you *must* know at least one of the following languages: Aklo, Azlanti, Celestial, Cyclops, Draconic, or Jotun.
Special: A PC can attempt to use the tablets to assist another character performing research with a DC 20 Athletics check to Aid; this represents physically moving the heavy tablets to help correlate the research.
Ocularity
This large green crystal cyclops eye sparkles in the torchlight, shadows seem to swirl inside the crystal, when looking through the flat surfaces set at sharp angles. Holding the crystal up to your eyes you look inside at the swirling clouds of grey, that part and show visions of the past or future.
Research Checks: Occultism, or Perception
Look more closely at the make up and rubble in the chamber
You can look more closely at the walls, floors and ceiling of the Library. You can optionally include taking charcoal rubbings from walls and floors, where there are interesting patterns and designs.
Research Checks: Perception (say whether you take rubbings or not)
Any other research you want to attempt or actions e.g. defend
Research Checks: the appropriate check.
Lost Library Of Koloran - Research Round 1
Emory - Research ?
Iustanus - Research ?
Lande - Research ?
Renvi - Research ?
DM Deevor |
Emory Gunter wrote:And Renvi as well!Mister Gunter says:
Lustanus...quickly!...you must use your wand on Lande and I...there's not a moment to lose.
Renvi had Draconic on her list of languages when I looked so she's OK to read without any spells.
DM Deevor |
The wand is used and Emory and Lande are suddenly able to read the words on the wall ......
Both Emory and Lande can use research for the first round.
Will assume that you will use the wand on both until the either you stop research, there are enough charges so you don't need to count them.
DM Deevor |
Lande studies the nearest black stone tablets, and with the magic surging through him quickly translates the first words of the Seer, but is unable to learn much more than an introduction as to Ai'Sheen's home and inspiration and predicting a darkness. He tells his companions to use their Lore skills if they have any of those that are applicable, as they will no doubt make understanding the texts easier.
Lande you are trained in survival ....
The first 4 checks in the post with the research locations above can be made outside the research turn. I should have said there are 3 specific locations within the Library plus the chamber itself (look more closely) which can be used to spend 1 hour of research time.
Lost Library Of Koloran - Research Round 1
Emory - Research ?
Iustanus - Research ?
Lande - Research the Stones 2 research points
Renvi - Research ?
Iustanus |
Can he cast detect magic as he looks through the rubble?
1d20 + 4 ⇒ (20) + 4 = 24 Search through the rubble.
DM Deevor |
Iustanus starts to search the rubble, but finds nothing of real interest, even using his spells to find any magical emanations or auras. He spends some time studying the map as he continues round the chamber. As he takes in the patterns on the map, studying the map hard, he notices around the edges the maps starting to oxidise, the vivid colours just starting to fade.
He quickly realises that unfortunately, the unsealing of the doorway has now exposed the materials inside this room to the outside air for the first time in perhaps millennia, and the images and texts of the Map Mural are quickly oxidizing! As a result of this Iustanus estimates that for each hour that passes, the information available will become progressively harder to discern, until the Map Mural is no longer able to be studied due to complete oxidization!
Not only does Iustanus see the oxidisation of the map, he notices that this process has revealed the outline of what looks like a door, a secret door.
Renvi picks up the crystal and starts to study it, watching the swirling mists inside, as the light of the torch flickers orange like flames into the green. As Renvi concentrates and looks deeper into the crystal she sees the creatures starting to materialise and from the depths.
The scene showed many cyclopeans in a lightened chamber, scrolls and tablets of stone ordered in stone shelves, the creatures taking scripts down and reading their words, others copying scripts from scroll to stone sat at large tables.
A peaceful scene in any Library, before suddenly a cyclops enters, dressed in long white robes with silver stars and golden eyes sewn into the rim. The cyclops shouts, pointing to the heavens as he holds in his hands, a Great Axe. The other cyclopeans look up from their studies and tasks, the cyclops holds the axe up high, pointing at his companions. The next thing Renvi sees is a chamber awash with blood, the white robe soaked in blood and the axe dripping with the gore of dead librarians. A scene of carnage and death, in which Renvi is one of the librarians, she holds up her hands to protect herself from the incoming sweep of the axe, yet to no avail as it smashes into her head.
And the vision is gone, leaving Renvi shaking as she stands, a green crystal in her hands, her face drained of colour.
Your mind is still held by the crystal's vision, that shows the raging cyclops being overpowered by a contingent of guards, before being locked in a nearby cell.
On a failure the vision deals 2d4 ⇒ (4, 1) = 5 mental damage.
On a critical failure, the researcher is also stupefied 1 for 24hrs.
As Iustaus watches the map, the secret door outline become clearer, Emory continues with his rubbings, hears a faint click as his rubbings seems to move a small lever carefully hidden in the column of one of the ornate table legs. To Iustanus' acutely aware ears, he too hears the click and watches in amazement as the secret door starts to open. From inside the hidden room, you all hear strange utterances in several languages, until in Draconic you hear, "...the time is nigh....". You hear the sound of a heavy metal object being pulled across the stone.
Out of Research Mode ...
You have a round to react until the door fully opens.

As the door opens, it reveals a large cyclops, if that's what it can be called. The one eyed thing with the flesh falling off it's hands, leaves bony fingered claws one holding a great axe and the other pointing the deadly nails to the opening portal. You hear it speak in several tongues once more, it's cries loud and passionate. Over it's body is a rag of dirty brownish red, with faded silver stars and singular orange eyes, that was once a magnificent robe.

The dwarf's hatchet strikes the cyclops cutting off a sliver of flesh, but it doesn't seem to stop the creature's red eyes seeking out its prey.
The creature feels the crackle of electricity in the air and tries to skip out of the way, Ref Save 1d20 ⇒ 4, but the energy seeks out the silver and obsidian torc worn by the cyclops, causing him to jerk and groan in pain.
It looks at Renvi as the swashbuckler fails to be impressed by the display with the shortsword.
Iustanus manages to burn more flesh, although it seems the rags took more damage than the creature.
The creature moves forward and strikes at the dwarf that struck him with a weapon. As it does you hear in Draconic, "The ritual must begin! Will YOU dare stop it?" amongst the other tongues spoken. Strike @ Lande 1d20 ⇒ 8 damage 1d12 + 5 ⇒ (1) + 5 = 6HPs Seeing the dwarfs blood start to flow, it sends its claw at the dwarf, Strike 1d20 - 4 ⇒ (7) - 4 = 3 but overbalanced by its previous swing, the claw misses it's mark.
