GM Quirk |
Greetings, brave Starfinders! This for an Outpost IV game, and will begin on or about February 16th.
Most of you have heard this before: please plan on posting at least once a day. We may slow down a bit on weekends, though I hope to be able to at least make a GM post or two even then. Suffice to say, I think we're all doing our job if we're getting 6 posts a week in, and that means we'll finish this in a timely manner.
I will need the following information from you:
1. Your character's name, class, race, and level.
2. Your organized play number + character number.
3. An email address for me to send the chronicle sheet.
4. Slotted faction.
5. Day job roll (if applicable).
6. Please put a "bot me" expression on your online character.
7. Instead of simply "dotting in" over at game play, please feel free to post a short background for your character. It can be a short description, or it can be narrative in form.
8. (Optional) A little bit about you as a player might be nice. I always enjoy getting to know the people I interact with here. On the other hand, I know some also appreciate the anonymity of the internet, so feel free to skip this part.
A little about me:
My name is Alan, and when I'm not playing games with all of you I'm working at a community television facility in the midwest United States. I live at home with my wife, two teenagers, and Chef Brian the cat.
I have been playing and GMing RPG's since 198coughcough.

I'm John, and I've played in one of your SFS games (Acts of Association) before with another character (LolaRuby). Like Joey/Freeman, I've been playing RPGs since the late 70s, and played wargames before that. I'm part of a team handling safety support, environmental compliance, and quality assurance for one research directorate at a DOE national laboratory near Chicago.

8. My name is Stephen and I live on the east coast of Australia with my wife and 2 young daughters. From the sounds of things, we are of similar vintage, although I didn't get to play an actual proper RPG until much later - my introduction was through reading Dragonlance novels and playing CRPGs like Baldur's Gate and Neverwinter Nights.
I don't think I've played with any of you previously (with the exception of our valiant GM) and look forward to doing so.
OP-1 |
Hello,
1: OP-1. Android Operative Level 4, might be 5 by the time we start playing
2: 13475-704
3: emdevries @ ziggo.nl
4: Acquisitives
5: No Dayjob
I'm Eric and it seems like most of the people here I started with pen and paper rpg somewhere in the 80's although it took me a few years to transgress from what I was able to find in Europe to D&D and I don't think I played anything even resembling organized play until a few years ago.
Nomoline Anvilbender |
I've just realized that Nomoline is now level 7. I don't think I have a PC in tier, so will need to drop. Sorry :-(
Nomoline Anvilbender |
@GM can you mark me as inactive in this game? I've a bunch to keep track of and would rather not have the noise. Thanks!
Patterson LXII |
Before the mission starts, Patterson will sell his freebooter armor I (for 75 credits) and buy a suit of basic lashunta tempweave (1950 credits).
Chk'tarlsh |
Thanks for the update, GM Quirk.
Chk'tarlsh is currently wrapping up a PBP scenario. I believe we are in the final encounter.
My apologies, but I may need a few days to finish up.

8. Old, blue-box grognard. PbP is my only gaming outlet so I am always grateful for the chance to play.
GMQ is a lot of fun, and I know I've played with all of you before. Patterson is explained in-game. Chk'tarlsh was a mentor figure in Burn Kenyon's first adventure, the Protectorate Petition. The Freeman was partnered with Telerix Sporestorm in Ashen Asteroid. I can't remember specifically when I played with Revvy, but I know I have. Maybe you DM'd for one of my PCs?
Got to do some shopping before the mission. Professional tool kit (20), survival knife (95), 2x shock grenade (100) and smoke grenade (40) for sure. More purchases possible depending on mission.

Apologies all. Did not know the game had started. Every time I opened the link I book marked it just had the discussion titles up top and not the usual set of options. I just clicked on the main title to refresh it and then they appeared...
Supersuperlative |
Hi everyone. My apologies for the delay in starting.
After discussion with GM Quirk, I was tarrying in the hopes the other game Chk'tarlsh was in would wrap. Well, it is still marching on and looks like a few more days yet before it ends.
My only other pc of appropriate level is commited to another table for Outpost. As a result, I've opted to play a pregen this time around.
Sorry about the drama. See you all in there shortly!
OP-1 |
Just to confirm, what Patterson said; that's why ;)
Forgot to list slotted boons:
Acquisitives (Faction boon)
Duskmire Allegiance (Ally boon)
Defender of the Fleet (Starship Boon)
Scoured Stars Survivor (Personal Boon)
Marked Field Agent (Slotless Boon)

Nice outside the box thinking, Revvy. Even though GMQ seems to think the beastie will save, I still like the ram. And it's a natural from an RP perspective.
John, I hope Patterson was planning to come on deck and shoot anyway. I gambled that you were, just so I could get the post in without holding the game up to consult first.
OP-1 |
I was hoping that a huge creature would have a penalty to it's save and we had like a 10-20% chance. A +11 to it's reflex save is a bit more then I hoped for.
Ah well, after this we'll just have to abandon ship and hope that the Society will send something to pick us up in a couple of weeks or so ;)
GM Quirk |
Wow.
You guys just can't catch a break. Patterson, do you have a re-roll to use from a t-shirt boon?
Honestly, there are two of the toughest encounters I have ever seen in an adventure for characters at this level. The "mutated gharial" at the beginning could have killed one or more of you. I admit to pulling a few punches with that one.
And this encounter? TWO of them? Luckily, there is something that the book recommends as an adjustment for four players that may help you catch your breath...I'VE SAID TOO MUCH! :).
OP-1 |
Just to check...do we need to continue making these will saves even if we are already next to a creature? Or do we need to move to the other creature if we fail the save again? It seems a bit overpowered that there isn't a once you save you're safe vs this effect unless it's only meant to get us into melee range and forcing us to fight without blasters..which would be sort of interesting.
And because I'm curious does it have any keywords like mind-effecting or poison? Do we know what's causing this? Psionics? Smell nicely? Magnetism? If it's something we're inhaling I'd like to point out that as an android OP-1 doesn't breath (and actually has his environmental protections turned on since we took a swim outside of the submarine).
GM Quirk |
Well nuts.
Spoiler alert: I screwed up, and I'll need to think of a couple of ways to untangle this and retcon a few actions.
First, this lure ability the creatures have is sight dependent, so everyone is susceptible. I will let someone choose to try to identify the creature with a life science roll if you want to know more.
The big problem is that I did indeed miss the fact that if you have a successful save, you are no longer susceptible to the lure ability for 24 hours (much like the fort save the creature also has--though the range of that is much less).
The second ability is scent based. It's considered an inhaled poison effect. If environmental protections or being an android can help with that, I am open to adjudicating it appropriately.
I'm sorry about this. I think we may simply back up a bit. I need to look at gameplay, then make another post.
The good news is that you have nearly finished this. As I posted above, even without my mistake, there have been two VERY TOUGH encounters.
Stay tuned for a further post later tonight.
GM Quirk |
Okay. A little more information:
The creature's scent based effect is considered an "inhaled poison." Androids like OP-1 are indeed immune to this particular effect. Also, your armor's environmental protections will protect you.
I don't think this particular ability really "got" too many of you. Ears got hit with it the first round. A hard-a$$ GM might say that none of you would have automatically had your environmental protections active anyway (I'm not necessarily that kind of GM, I just don't see anything with regards to this ability that we desperately need to go back and retcon).
The other ability I think we do need to go back and do something about. It's not as complicated as I thought it might be. Patterson, Ears, and OP-1 may go back and re-do the last turn they did (some of these were at the end of round 2, OP-1 was at the beginning of round 3).
TheFreeman and his drone had a successful turn. Let's keep that the way it is. If Patterson and/or Ears happens to kill the thing, TheFreeman may keep his rolls and apply to the other creature (though I may require that you move to get a line of sight on it).
Navasi's get 'em will be in effect for OP-1's retcon turn, I believe.
If anyone believes there were any other key moments earlier, let me know.
At this time, you are all immune to BOTH save effects these creatures can put out (assuming you have activated your environmental protections).
Supers Navasi |
No worries, GM Q. These things happen. I don't think it bore too much of an effect to this point.
OP-1 |
Don't worry,it happens
I only asked since it looked like most of the party wouldn't be able to take actions from now on, which just isn't fun. But nobody has died so no harm done.
I'm just glad I get to actually shoot something (even if I'll end up missing due to poor aim) ;)
Ears |
It was nice to have the momentary delusion that my spell wouldn't be wasted. We'll try again next round.
Oh and no worries GMQ!

Hello all. We are staying home and being boring for Easter weekend but my office room is being painted Saturday/Sunday. Might be slow on the posting. bot as needed. Have a nice weekend and Easter all!
