You have heard of a type of incorporeal undead called poltergeists. They are quite uncommon but are known to spook animals and be able to move things remotely. That could explain the sudden forces experienced by members of the party.
If you want to tell the rest of the group about it, that will be your action for the round.
Ledt opens the door, with nothing jumping out at him. Lucky.
While he does that Silgil rides Gumbo over the pit.
Looking within he sees four evenly-spaced canvas walls run parallel to each other in a row stretching from north to south through the middle of this room. On both sides of each wall hang dozens of paintings, drawings, and sketches of a variety of violence-themed scenes.
A solid wooden door is in the middle of the south wall and a heavier, oaken door is in the middle of the north wall.

"Come on people. We need to deal with this problem. They are not disappearing on the way out. Put your thinking caps on."
@GM Aerondor - What is your ruling regarding Glitterdust outlining incorporeal, invisible creatures assuming that they are in the area of effect to begin with. The rules on this are not exactly clear to me.
But If they are outlined or someone can See Invisible then Magic Missile should be able to effect them normally as it is a force effect. Also area of effect spells like Fireball or Lighting Bolt or even Burning Hands should do half damage to incorporeal creatures.

Glitterdust will outline invisible creatures but not incorporeal, ethereal or astral ones. They literally have nothing to outline. That said, I am happy for them to be potentially blinded by the glittering if they have sight.
See invisible would allow you to see invisible, incorporeal, ethereal or astral.
MM would work normally against incorporeal, and ethereal creatures. Astral I don't think so.
Fireball, LB, and burning hands are magical, so 50% effective against incorporeal, but not ethereal.
Quite frankly the same, same but different use of incorporeal and ethereal in D&D (and thus PF) is kind of problematic. IMHO they should have got rid of incorporeal and just stuck with ethereal
Shaggy so doesn't want to go back down those stairs. He wines and looks pitiful. If you insist on trying to get him down there then pretty soon there will be a smelly yellow rivulet running down those stairs. Hope nobody slips on it.

I don't think a riding dog will fit in a handy haversack or bag of holding. Dimension door would easily let you bypass the room with Shaggy though.
