Traps and XP: Another question I should know the answer to

Rules Questions

Traps are worth XP. I figure that disarming or bypassing a trap is how you are awarded the XP for the contraption. But what if you fall victim to it? Assuming you live, do you get XP for that?

Yes, I think. More HP and better saves or AC are just alternate ways of surviving the trap. Unless you die, of course.

You don't lose the xp from monsters for defeating them in a sloppy, inefficient way. You only lose out if you die.

I like to think of it as the unfortunate PC learning a lesson from the trap.

My answer might not be the official one though.

I give some to my players as they did learn something from it.

Just like if they lose a fight and live it is worth some xp maybe not alot but some.

I must be generous. I give my players XP even if they die (after all, isn't a well-earned death the biggest learning experience of them all?). Of course, they can only get it when they get raised.
