As the pale lady looks curiously upon the dancing archivist, she frowns, looking at Yuri, saying, "Yes, but how does this help rescue me and my daughters?"
In answer to Vladek's query, she says simply, "My daughters and I are imprisoned here...I thought you came to rescue us...but now I'm not so sure..."
Becoming perturbed, she queries a bit more loudly at Daathiel, her discerning eyes fiery, "Time's a wasting...why do you continue to dance?"
Sense Motive: 1d20 + 21 ⇒ (1) + 21 = 22
Sense Motive: 1d20 + 21 ⇒ (14) + 21 = 35
Her eyes grow angry. "You are not here to rescue us!"
You see two creatures emerge, one from the room to the west, one from the southwest; from the tip of their lashing tails to the serrated features of their fang-filled visage, these fiery-eyed sentinels bristles with barbs. One of them speaks, "We agree, Mistress, the dancer can only be up to no good..."
The pale lady screeches, revealing long, sharp fangs. "DECEPTION! THEY SEEK TO HARM MY DAUGHTERS! KILL THE DANCER! KILL THEM ALL!"
Daathiel, due to you starting this dance suddenly along with her confusion, you got in 2 full rounds of dancing before initiative so, if you're able to continue, you'll have the three full rounds completed after your turn in round 1...

@GM Otha - Hunter Blessing is up on the party. As we are underground now everyone in the party gets a +2 bonus to their initiative. So Alie will act before the Pale Lady. In the case of a tie in initiative you look to see who has the higher initiative modifier to break the tie. So Vladek still loses out to the minions with the +2 bonus for the Hunter's Blessing spell factored in. (Edited to reflect Daathiel's post)
Everyone please remember to add +2 to hit and +2 to damage to your attack rolls as they are undead creatures.

Rokgurn flies a couple of feet above the ground moving in front of the bard to get a good view of the battle field. He attempts to buy time for the bard to complete his dance. He weaves a patch of brambles to trap his opponents.
(Wall of Thorns is cast. This spell automatically overcomes SR as it is an SR=NO spell.)
As a precaution his Sipping Jacket activates and his form blurs and shifts (Displacement activated as a swift action).
I can draw this out after the other characters have taken their actions but before the Pale Lady acts. That way players will get their actions in. My character is delaying his turn to right after Alie acts (Initiative 25). If Alie is able to paralyse or incapacitate the Pale Lady then I may change my actions. I will post again after her to confirm. I just want other players to know what I intend to do so it is not a surprise for them.

Jack glanced back to Yuri to see where he could charge and studied the one in the devil in the corner since that was his expertise. Holy weapons doing the trick made sense. "Not enough bloody room for usual tactics, but take care of mama."
Tim lept forward to set up the flanking and Jack followed soon after, darting around the devil to take better advantage of the easier target with his blade.

Just to confirm: Hunter's Blessing will give +2/+2 vs the lady (undead) but not vs the devils (outsiders). Correct?
Rokgurn
|
@Yuri - You are absolutely right. +2/+2 sacred bonus vs Undead (only) for the next 14 hours.
@Alie - There is no way that your character could even see the Pale Lady from your current position. So it is up to the GM to decide if any resources were expended or not.
Rokgurn moves up in front of the bard and his form begins to shift (Displacement). He weaves a Wall of Thorns intended to merely delay his opponents.
(I just restated the exact same actions in my post above for clarity)
@GM Otha - It is such a tight squeeze for such a big spell. There are three 5X10'X10' segments behind either of the monsters that I can see. I cannot add them due to the blue border on the map. This spell is cast at minimum caster level (9) otherwise I would not be able to fit all the thorns on the map. :)
Wall of Thorns can be dismissed as a standard action so it is likely to come down (next turn) on my action (Initiative 25 now). I just want to buy some time for Daathiel's dance to come into effect. Alie should have no difficulty moving through the wall (and will take no damage) due to her bloodline abilities. Freedom of Movement will work as well. :)

Delay until after Rokgurn's turn (assuming he is going to dismiss the wall) - might come off delay in something weird aka bad happens before that.

@Yuri - Not to worry you will have the same amount of bone crushing, dwarf bashing excitement if you delay this combat then if there was no wall at all. :) I want to waste their actions not ours. This is all assuming that something massive does not happen in between now and then.

3 of 3: 1d20 + 12 + 2 + 7 + 4 ⇒ (7) + 12 + 2 + 7 + 4 = 32
He continues his dance. Holy sunlight bursts forth in a 100' radius around him (this circle is fixed and does not move with him).
I don't think the overgrowth effect happens since there are no plants in the area - I mean, there is the Wall of Thorns, but that is another spell effect.
That is 3 more rounds of Bardic Performance used. Now at 9 rounds left for the day.
Yuri Twobeards
|
It would be funny if the rules let the holy sunlight cause the wall of thorns to grow out of control! Also, wow, it's rare to see a Bard potentially run out of performance rounds after the lowest levels.
Daathiel
|
True. There have been a lot of fights, and Daathiel has neither Lingering Performance, Extra Performance, nor Maestro of the Society (he is stuck with the Magical Knack trait because for most of his career he was Mindchemist2/BrdX). I also don't mind using Soothing Performance, which eats up rounds. He was at 20/34 rounds before using two of those. May be a little more judicious from here on out.
Rokgurn
|
I would think that 15 rounds would probably be enough to get you through the important rounds in the difficult combats even in a module. This is without using Soothing Performances and Masterpieces and such. Bards are such amazing buffers it does not really matter. Good Hope combined with a judicious use of Timely Inspiration or Gallant Inspiration is usually more than enough. Melee characters in this level range are usually just fine on their own.

Just noticing that someone (Qadathra?) is in Yuri's charge lane. I'm going to assume that either it is flying above him or that he could have repositioned on his turn (I didn't notice it before because all the green lines made it hard to fully read the map, but I think if we were all sitting at a table together this would have been easy to point out). So I'll do my move as if I have a charge lane but if you disagree, GM, just take the first attack.
The devil's comment about Yuri's weight sends him over the edge! "I'm big boned! And I have two beards - didn't ye notice? Two of 'em! That'll make anyone look a bit curvier!"
Before the devil has a chance to reply, Yuri surges forward, pouncing on the rude creature with his dorn-dergar.
Free action to enter rage (13/33). Yuri is immune to sickened while raging so the sickened condition from the previous spell goes away.

|
Yuri eyes the gown before patting his paunch ruefully. "Aye, though I slew him for it, that devil weren't all lies..." Leaving aside the gown, he takes up the ring and sees if he can jam it onto his stubby finger. "This'll make a nice l'il remembrance though, if I kin jest make it... fit!"
Unless it turns out to be cursed, that'll be a +2 AC bump for Yuri. The gown is actually a very interesting item, since it frees up the shoulder slot that 99% of us have to use for Cloak of Resistance. Yuri will likely buy it and then use his shoulder slot for some crazy permanent enlargement - the dwarf who finally had enough of people calling him short!

Since Jack's practically in the far chamber at the end of the fight, I'll give a description of it...
Finding himself in the westernmost cavern after the fight, Jack sees a sobering sight...
Cowering against a wall, too frightened to make a sound, are two brown-haired women in their early twenties. They wear filthy peasant dresses and clutch one another in terror. Beside them is a pallet of soiled blankets, chunks of doubtful-looking meat, and a plain clay jug. A lone candle sputters fitfully next to them.

Rokgurn
|
Rokgurn flies over to Jack's position to check out the ladies. He is careful to examine the veracity of their current plight. He engages his spirit sense ability and scans the area.
(In bright light his take 10 on Perception is 42. He also has Blindsight of 40')
Spirit Sense (60' Cone - Detects Undead,Incorporeal,Ethereal, Astral,Outsiders or Fey creatures).
He spends a moment to see if what he is actually looking at is real.
Will save to disbelieve Illusion: 1d20 + 21 ⇒ (1) + 21 = 22
Hopefully it is real or his Spirit Sense will detect that they are undead because he is not seeing through the illusion with a natural 1. :)

Rokgurn detects no undead in the chamber...they are what they appear to be...

Rokgurn
|
Rokgurn has no clue how these young women are still alive. Common sense would indicate the implausibility of their situation yet he decides it is best to ask. He keeps his distance as not to frighten them any more.
"Excuse me. Would you like to get out of here? I am sure that we can help you if you like or you can stay here. It is your choice."
"If you don't mind me asking. How have you been surviving down here considering all the strange creatures?"
Hopefully there is some sort of backstory. I am curious.

A third shepherd sits at the table with the two drunks, introducing himself as Lucius Manvale; he seems much more distant and morose. He nods to you, echoing what you had heard earlier. "Pay ye not attention to these boors; dey like to be speakin' from dere arses. But things aint a bein' what dey use to be 'round here, queer things a be happenin'. Me two daughters, Cinda and Genelle, be a disappearin' nigh two months ago. Dere be sumthin' foul in the countryside, but dat be de only tings dese two fools be right about. Dey were good gerls and would never be runnin' off wit travelers, as some be suggesting..." He says the last part while casting an angry eye at the innkeeper...
"Cinda? Genelle?"

The girls continue to cower, hearing Rokgurn’s queries, but he can tell from the look in their eyes, they are traumatized...and too terrified to answer him at present...
At the mention of the names, Daathiel clearly makes out that their eyes go wide and their heads turn in his direction, their expressions questioning...but they say nothing...

”As much as I’d like to escort these ladies out, if you remember, I believe out exit vanished after we entered this place. I don’t think we are getting them and us out of here until our task is complete, I’m afraid.”
