Zahra flinched back from the burn and gave a yelp of pain and surprise.

ref,DC11: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (17) + 2 = 19

She managed to keep heavy cloth gripped in her hands and she threw it over the fireball, trying to smother any flame from burning down her home.

Not sure what kind of roll this would be but she'll try to smother the fire elemental. I don't think it's possible but she doesn't know that...

GMs rolls - definitely not secret:

I'm going to say that throwing a blanket doesn't require proficiency. It should be easier than using a net. But it's not a 'touch attack' so I'm going to go with a CMB roll. The cloth is heavy so I'll give it Ohardness and 3HPs (instead of the 2 for cloth). If the blanket attack lands and doesn't burn up the fire elemental will become fatigued for 1rnd.
Zahra's blanket attack vs CMD13: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (18) + 2 = 20 Success!
fire elemental's flame vs 3HP: 1d4 ⇒ 1 Blanket has 2hp left but enough holes are burned in it for the elemental to see - it isn't blinded
Zahra or Tymythy: 1d2 ⇒ 1 Zahra

damage: 1d4 ⇒ 4 roll reflex save vs DC11

Zahra threw the heavy curtain weight mauve material over the walking flame. Smoke began to billow out from underneath it. The creature thrashed about underneath as sparks turned into flame-halo'ed holes and the holes grew larger and in many places.

Even after a few seconds the thrashing weakened but the still bright flame wasn't dying ... or showing any signs of disappearing.

The creature stopped moving and became slightly larger under the sheet like it was flexing its' muscles. Then it punched through the cloth and made forceful contact with Zahra's thigh!

...meanwhile...

Dounia sat behind the wide fronded aloe plant and noticed a cochineal aphid creeping across its' surface. It stopped and began to eat part of the soft leaf. It was large for an aphid of its' sort and threatened to damage perhaps even spoil the valuable plant.

Everyone up!

Zahra jumped back from the tiny ball of flame with a pained cry. There was a repulsion that seemed to awaken inside her that was more than just a natural avoidance of fire that can burn. Maybe it was because the fire was actively trying to hurt her but she felt an instinctive need to destroy it that she couldn't ignore.

Ref, DC11: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (17) + 2 = 19

Taking a 5ft step to avoid a possible AoO

As she sprung backwards, words came to the sorceress' mind that she didn't previously know but needed to be said and she couldn't keep them inside. Arcane words tumbled out of her mouth and her hands began to move. The temperature surrounding her hands dropped suddenly and caused what little moisture there was in the air to condense into something similar to ice that flew towards the living fire.

Casting Ray of Frost at the fireball

Does she do extra damage to the fire elemental because the elements are opposites?

Zahra then placed her cooled hands over the burn on her thigh to soothe it.

As the malevolent flame burned out sections of curtain, Zhara's inverted sunbeam, the hoary ray, hit it directly through the hole it had only just punched. As the ray and the creature collided there sounded a hissing like the crashing of a wave. Sounds like logs cracking in a campfire sounded as loud sword parries and a great roil of steam issued out of the creature. The ray hurt it, more so than it would have any man.

Cairee seemed to have enough water in her waterskin to keep the burning doorframe from spreading.

Although both Cairee and Tymythy have become familiar with Zahra's claws - this is the first time they have seen her spellcast. The magic missile on top of the stairs was too much out of view for Tymythy.

Cairee managed to douse the doorframe with enough water to keep the flames back. She needed more to put it out completely. She turned to the others. "Quick! Throw me your water skins!

That's when she saw young, timid Zhara with claws extended, conjuring what looked like a ray of ice out of thin air and hurling it at the fire baby.

It. Was. Awesome.

Zahra's power was different than Cairee's. It came from somewhere else. Cairee couldn't wait to for them to talk about it. She hadn't met anyone with abilities outside the Order. But now was not the time.

Cairee turned to the final bulgar, only a few feet away on the other side of the burning door.

[edited]

She's feeling a little smug. She tries to focus that into something helpful. Perhaps she can convince the last of their attackers to lay down arms.

”Here!” Tymythy said as he tossed Cairee his waterskin – recently refilled from a fountain during their trek through the city. That, at least, was a simple little task for him to complete. Now, dealing with the spirit of flames, on the other hand…

The hunter stepped back with a muttered oath as Zahra conjured a ray of what looked like frozen vapor at the spirit, proof that there was more to her than the strange curse that affected her hands. Tymythy was torn. On one hand, he had a deep-seated need of trying to protect his companions, as his one past failure to do that had left deep scars on his heart… but on the other, he had no wish to get stuck between a spirit and a wielder of magic dueling it out, using for weapons forces he couldn’t begin to understand.

Dagger vs elemental: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (4) + 5 = 9 Oh well…

Gingerly, he stepped closer long enough to swipe at the elemental, hoping the partially-burnt sack would still hide his approach from it, as it was focusing on Zahra… yet the lack of visibility and his own cautions approach worked against him, as his blade cut only cloth before the hunter danced back, hopefully outside the area of Zahra’s next attack.

Dounia stared at the bug for a moment, then crushed it between her fingernails. Staring up at the house, she thought she saw a flickering light come from one of the windows. Fire? Fire was no joke, even in a city where wood was uncommon.

Deciding she better see if they needed help, the girl reluctantly left her hiding spot and ran back into the house.

Full move to get back to the others, that'll probably take two turns?

Dounia slipped out of the garden box, reached for the handle of the back door and froze. She could hear the sound of someone walking towards the door from the other side. The steps were laboured and a voice was muttering in Limaninite. Through the doors latticed back window she could see a form.

Then a second voice, a woman's voice and further away, yelled out in Aerthane, "Who are you! Did you start this fire?! Get out of my house! Get out!!"

There was a thud and the form rushed to the backdoor. Dounia could see it start to open!
Dounia, you have surprise

Cairee looked to the final burglar and saw that he lay on the floor still as death.

The flaming cherub burned the rest of the curtain material to cinders buoyant in the warm still air. With each swipe of Tymythy's dagger the creature forced itself to flare out sending a wave of heat to drive him back. It saw Cairee dowsing the window frame. Tymythy threw her his waterskin and, furious, the flame rushed her.
@Tymythy - if you like take an AoO on the elemental

The flame being slammed into Cairee's back but the creature seemed somehow weaker than before and the blow was little more than a punch.

Tymythy’s battle with the elemental had been quite pathetic up to that point – he’d try to slash at the tiny spirit while it kept dodging and driving him away with bursts of heat. And while the spirit itself hadn’t manage to land any telling blows, it did keep inflicting small injuries on the mystic. Yet an opportunity arose when the spirit decided to charge at Cairee, apparently enraged by her efforts to douse the flames that threatened to spread and engulf the building.

Dagger, AoO vs elemental: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (14) + 5 = 19
Damage: 1d4 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4

As the spirit rushed past Tymythy once again slashed at it with his blade, but this time the spirit was too intent on its new target to get out of the way and the steel blade cut right through the spirit’s elemental body, offering little resistance but hopefully causing some damage to its physical form.

Dagger vs elemental: 1d20 + 5 + 2 ⇒ (9) + 5 + 2 = 16 Flanking bonuses?
Damage: 1d4 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4

As the creature kept its attention on Cairee Tymythy moved after the single-mided spirit, slashing its back again and again, hoping the bite of steel would cause some harm to such a creature of magic... or at the very least turn its attention to him.

Dounia nearly froze in indecision. Should she hide again, and follow whomever came out? What if she got lost? Should she attack? What if it wasn't a burglar? Looking desperately around, the girl saw a parasol leaning against the wall. Grabbing it, she ducked down and waited for the door to open. As soon as the figure stepped through, she whacked the parasol at their ankles, hoping to knock them down.

Actually, what I said was 'the chances of anyone using the window to escape are now 0'

The burly burglar shoved his way through the door. Dounia caught a glimpse behind him and could see the body of another person much like him crumpled in an irregular angle. Beyond them and about fifty feet away stood Zahra ... no, not Zahra. This woman was older by a good twenty-five years and seemed perhaps a little shorter but she had Zahra's hair and something of her posture.

Dounia swung the parasol hard against the burlar's ankle and the hooked handle came clean away. The burglar pushed just past the young girl and paused drawing his short-bladed scimitar.
That is his only action this round

Now a little back tracking
As the flame creature rushed Cairee, Tymythy made a long slice with his dagger. The blade connected with something dense inside the flame. It cut a swath of fire away from the creature and the flame imploded silently in mid-ai. It was like a torch deprived of qxygen. The creature was barely holding together as it collided with the cleric and set her back ablaze.

Tymythy stepped in quickly to make another slash but before he could reach it another sun-beam like ray of frost shot out and hit the creature bodily. The frost divided the being in half and both flames eddied in the air as they dwindled to nothing. An eerie whine followed it and died as if disappearing rapidly in the distance.

Tymythy looked at the broken glass bauble that the creature came in. Being a trapper he recognized something and it seemed more a prison than a potion bottle. Perhaps the creature was trapped inside and thrown to create havoc and allow an escape? Not even the thrower was in charge of its' actions.

He and Zahra snapped their heads up as they saw Cairee thrashing, her back a giant candle.
everyone up (Zahra has already acted using Ray of Frost and utterly destroying the fire elemental).
@Tymythy - please retcon the second half of your post.
@Cairee - you are still on fire.
@Dounia - you are toe-to-toe with the last burglar.

Right, retconning with pleasure!

”Hold a moment!” Tymythy shouted as the elemental spirit vanished and Cairee’s burning clothes became the new priority. Taking his cue from Zahra’s earlier attempt to douse the spirit’s flames he dropped his dagger, ripped his cloak from his shoulders and threw the cloth over Cairee’s back, pressing it against her back, hoping he could smother the flames before they caught proper hold.

Smothering flames as first action, next would come using the waterskin, assuming Cairee hadn’t already use it on the flames on the floor.

So I had to have it pointed out to me that the 3rd burglar fell long before Cairee got there and she wasted an action trying to reason with a corpse...I think we can all agree she deserves to be on fire.

Cairee caught Tymythy's water skin easily. The fire in the doorframe was almost out, and she could now see the third burglar clearly. Face down on the floor. It made Cairee pause, distracted. Hadn't he just been... clearly she was still lightheaded from all of the blood in the other room. And where did that guy go-

"OOPH!"

Something slammed into her back. Someone screamed - Cairee didn't realize it was her. All she was aware of was the searing pain blanketing her back and the waves of unbearable heat crashing over her whole body.

She stumbled forward, feeling all control of her body drain away. Then there was a new painful pressure on her back and a presence - someone was trying to put the fire out. Cairee leaned into this new pain and held up the water skin for them to use.

I have figured it out! This is the guy Cairee healed, now escaping with the body of his friend. Or at least, he was going to carry him away until Mama Zahra interrupted him. I was very confused for a minute.

Squealing in fright, Dounia grasped her own dagger, and made sure to keep her feet moving. She'd never fought a man before, but she and Cyra had practiced with wooden knives against each other, many times. "You better surrender!" she cried, trying to look tough. Tymyhthy cursed as he could see flames flaring out from underneath the cloak he was trying to smother them with. ”I’ll use the waterskin – hold still for a spell longer!” he shouted, accepting the skin, used his teeth to unstop it and poured its content on the cloak and Cairee's back.

Tymythy watched the flames turn to smoke as the fire went out. It exposed bloody red and black skin as a deep third degree burn covered half of Cairee's back. The surface of molten skin cracked like ice thrown in warm water as the contents of the waterskin was emptied onto it. Her loose fitted shirt was destroyed and partial fused to her shoulder blades.

For Cairee it felt like another fire had been thrown on-top of the first. She was in great pain but stood hearty with no sign of passing out.

Tymythy poured the water skin over Cairee's back, causing it to sizzle and spit like a marketplace barbecue. She could smell the char of her burnt flesh. Had it not been for the warrior's assurances that the flames were doused, Cairee would have sworn she was still on fire.

Zahra gasped when she saw the rawness of Cairee's back. "Don't move, Cairee, or you may hurt more."

The sorceress grabbed another piece of material and focused her cooling spell into the material. She then gingerly placed the cold material on her burned skin. "Does that feel better?"

Not sure if you'll allow it but her plan is to Ray of Frost a piece of material to cool it and then place it on Cairee's back to help soothe the pain

Once Cairee was no longer on fire and she had helped as much as she could, Zahra turned her attention to her home and made sure that nothing was still on fire.

She looked disgustedly at the dead man on the floor of her bedroom. Looked like she would have to save up some of the money from mending or cleaning in order to redecorate. She didn't want to be constantly reminded of death whenever she looked around her room.

We are still going from round to round so Zahra can cool the blanket and then scan the room for damage. Dounia used her AoO but still has a move and standard action. The pain shooting through Cairee's body abated slightly. Enough for her to shift her focus onto something else. She was missing something. What was it?

'Now what?' Tymythy thought, looking around wildly. The flames threatening Cairee's life seemed finally be going out, and Zahra was also there to help the girl - and Tymythy could feel another pulse of warm, soothing power emanating from the scorched healer. Clearly she was now better able to deal with her own injuries than he was.

Dropping the waterskin next to Cairee, the hunter stepped past her into the room to retrieve his spear from the fallen foe, then dashed back towards the stairs leading down, to give Dounia what assistance he may.

Considered jumping through a window but was unsure if they A) open and B) are even large enough to fit him through. Besides, I don't know which side of the building Dounia and the enemies are. The burglar in the courtyard looked ready to jump and grab hold of the eave of the workshop's roof to start to climb up. He ignored Dounia's plea to stop but he couldn't ignore the blade of her dagger as she drove it halfway into his bicep.

He backed against the wall, nearly a foot taller than his attacker, and looked her in the eye. He put his other hand on her shoulder trying to hold himself up. The colour drained from his face and, under the initial bleeding, a little stream of blood pulsed out in rhythm with his heartbeat.

The burglar slid down the wall as his legs failed him and all of his lights went out.

Cairee was already on the staircase when she heard the yelling.

Realizing the burglar he had speared had been playing possum forced another swift change of priorities - rather than reaching for the spear stuck to the enemy's stomach the hunter instead gave the man a swift kick to the side of the head, hoping he would go down for good this time.

Cairee cleared her throat, not wanting to startle the frantic woman. "Your daughter is upstairs, looking for you. She's fine, I promise." Cairee moved down the hall, anxious to check on Dounia. "I'd like to check on my friend if you don't mind." She slides by the woman and into the courtyard.

She sees the burlgar she'd saved slumped at Dounia's feet. "Are you okay? Did he hurt you?"

@Cairee - you are trying to get past an angry and frightened mother so I need a roll there. You are telling her exactly what she wants to hear so I'm puting a conditional bonus on that diplomacy roll but she will be classed as 'unfriendly'.

The woman lets you slip past as her attention turns to the stairs - she is no longer 'unfriendly'. She is now 'indifferent'.

Zahra stood straight up and her head turned towards the sound of her mother's voice. "Mama!" She flew towards the stairs without any thought as to whether or not she had completely put the fire out.

She took the stairs two at a time going down. "Mama, you're okay! I was so worried!"

Zahra practically tackled her mother as she threw her arms around her in a fierce hug.

With all burglars down post as you like - no more round-to-round
As Tymythy's foot connected soundly with the burglar's head he could hear the the thief mutter something, "La, lays mujadadaan." <limaninite - no, not again> The thief was out cold but still with signs of breathing. He will be out for three hours unless assisted

The warrior could see a long board left in the room. It was laying over the bed and ran to the far corner of the room. With some imagination he could see it reaching to the roof of the workshop in the courtyard. The window had no glass in it and was just large enough for a man to crawl through.

On his way to the main floor he could hear the talk downstairs.

Cairee and Dounia met and could see neither burglar showed no signs of life no healing will raise these two. Anxiety and relief hit them in alternating waves. These men would have killed them given the chance. They would have burnt the house down. If the four hadn't come home when they did then Zahra's mother would have eventually encountered the thieves on her own.

The two turned to see Zahra embracing her mother.

"Oh Zahra, where were you? We looked for days! Badru had seen you in the market and then you were gone. Who are these people? Why did that young girl kill that man? You are burned?! Come to the kitchen and I will look at it and we can talk."

Nisma stepped carefully over the body in the hall and walked to the kitchen not letting go of her daughter's hand.

"We must shutter the windows. People will be coming home for their alqaylula." alqaylula = siesta/mid day rest from the heat

Dounia stared at the man with horror on her face. "No," she whispered. Pressing her hands over the wound in his arm, she said, "No! It's just a cut in your arm! I'm sorry, I'm sorry, I'm sorry..."

The girl, for all her midnight adventures, had never seen death before. And she had certainly never caused it. Not in a person. In shock, she allowed herself to be led back into the house, staring at the blood on her hands, tears on her face. "I didn't mean to..."

Zahra did her best to not burst into tears from everything that had happened. She managed to keep her voice even as she began to tell her mother what had happened but she was also unwilling to let go of her mother's hand. "Mama, I was taken from the market and held captive for days. They were going to sell me as a slave which is where I met my new friends. This is Cairee and Dounia and Tymythy is upstairs with the last burglar. We all escaped together and then came straight here. I knew something was wrong because the windows weren't shuttered, so you're right, we should shutter them."

She quickly helped her mother shutter the windows before making her way to the kitchen table. "Mama, my burn isn't nearly as bad as Cairee's. Can you help her first? One of the burglar's released some sort of fire creature upstairs which is what started the fire. We got burned fighting it. I think we managed to put out the fire but I should probably check for sure."

The sorceress looked sadly at her mother knowing that what she had to say next would bring great disappointment. Her voice went quiet as she said, "Mama, people have seen me doing magic. I did what I had to do to escape and survive. I'm sorry, I tried not to."

Cairee said a silent prayer for the two fallen burglars, then guided Dounia away. The young girl looked devastated, and Cairee couldn't think of anything to say to ease her pain. Taking a life should be hard, Cairee thinks. It should be the most difficult thing in the world. She wonders how this will change the young thief. Does she see her potential future reflected in these two bodies?

They hovered in the hall, not sure where to go. Cairee smiled at how Zahra clutched at her mother's hand. This is how families should be. This is right. She clung to the burnt rags of her destroyed clothing, waiting for a good time to ask to borrow a shirt.

Zahra wrote:
"Mama, my burn isn't nearly as bad as Cairee's. Can you help her first?"

"You're hurt?" Cairee hadn't realized Zahra had also been burned. She approaches Zahra and reaches inward, calling on Saiph's power to provide them (and whoever else may need it) with some relief.

Hopefully I can get this done before Cairee heals the surviving burglar back into fighting shape with her Channel ;^)

An irate, concerned mother. Tymythy did not feel fear confronting armed strangers, but a matron in her own house, worried about her own flesh and blood? That challenge the clansman was more than happy to leave for Zahra to handle! Instead, he busied himself with stripping the twice-subdued robber of all his worldly possessions, checking his wounds to make sure the man would not die before they had had a chance to question him. After he was satisfied the man would live to see another day, he selected some of his clothes to cut into strips that Tymythy then used to bind the burglar’s wrists and ankles. As a finale he connected the bindings together, hogtying the man’s hands and feet together, hopefully discouraging him from trying to get loose before they had a chance to question him.

A few minutes later Tymythy inspected his handiwork and nodded to himself. Then, he took out his dagger and cut a tuft of hair from the burglar’s head as trophy – were this a clansman opponent he’d have cut off his whole braid, but he’d just have to make do what was available. He deftly tied the hair together with a bit of string and pocketed it before rising to his feet. Hopefully by now the mystic would have assured her mother that her fury was best saved for the intruders, not her daughter’s fellow escapees.

”Apologies, matron,” Tymythy said as he approached the foursome of women, bowing to the mistress of the house. ”The intruder over there is securely bound, and awaits your pleasure. If you deem he has earned death for his transgression, my blade is at your disposal – the very least I could do, after all the help your daughter has given me, a stranger led to her by the fickle will of the Spirits.”

So, emptying the man’s pockets – well, stripping him to his unmentionables, really, to make sure he’s not hiding anything under his clothes – piling the stuff neatly so Zahra and her mother can tell what was stolen and what not, giving the prisoner just enough first aid to make sure he’s stable and then securing his hands and feet.

@Zahra - I have PM'd you
@Tymythy - you would not be reached by Cairee's channeling from upstairs. I assume from your concern that you move the burglar downstairs - he will be bound and healed enough to talk
Nisma looked both thoughtful and alarmed, "Were you grabbed by men like these? I do not know who they are ... but Haseena will know." She went to the larder and brought out a bag of simple medical supplies. At Zahra's suggestion her mother turned to look at Cairee but stopped. Seeing the woman praying, she nodded her head and closed her eyes.

Tymythy drug the last of the burglars downstairs to the now shuttered front room. Nisma, Zahra's mother, gave him a suspicious long eye-ing over but at the kind words about her daughter and talk of the spirits she relaxed.

The familiar comfort and warmth of the aura centred on Cairee returned and Zahra's burns were gone, Cairee's cleared immensely ... and the burglar woke to see his situation.

Nisma, "You are blessed with the ear of the gods, a true holy woman! We are honoured to have you in our home. Surely Suburse watches after you my daughter to have sent you such company." Turning to Dounia, "Little one, I see you are badly shaken. Know that you have done something for us I could never have asked for but that it must be. What that man knew could have destroyed us. I will always be grateful and you will always be welcome here."

She went to the larder and returned with cold chicken, water seasoned with mint and cucumber, and a small frosted glass of light beer for each. A small glass of beer, especially served cold, was a bit of a treat - a sign that Nisma was trying to be hospitable.

"Zahra, you must go to our neighbour Ahlekan and ask him to come see me. Then you must go see Haseena. No, not immediately. Eat first. Your father will not be home for alqaylula. I will let him know you are ok. He will be so relieved. He hasn't spoken since you went missing." She sat next to her daughter and whisppered, "Who saw you call on your power? Did this one??" She nodded to the trussed-up burglar in their front room. Zahra thought hard but could only remember being seen by the first burglar, now dead. "Please young man, we MUST find out what this one knows ... then, if he knows nothing, we must let him go to tell his nothing to his betters. If he instead knows something ..."

Zahra looked confused and a little distressed at her mother's first question, "I don't know...I don't know who took me. I was grabbed from behind and everything went black. I woke up in a yurt someways out of the city and there was this woman...Cascha, or something like that. She seemed to be in charge of selling the slaves."

Relief crept across her face, "Do you think Haseena will know?" Then she nodded, "Yes, she'll know." Zahra stayed ready to help her mother in any way she needed to serve their guests.

Zahra nodded and took a couple steps towards the door to go get Ahlekan but then stopped as her mother called her back to eat. She waited for the others to sit to eat and then sat with her mother. She thought hard and then shrugged helplessly, "I don't know. I do know he was in my room so who knows what he found."

So who wants to play interrogator? Zahra can give it a go if no one else wants. He was in her room after all and no teenager likes it when their room is invaded :)

Is Tymythy going to share the info about the plank being the way they gained access to the house?

"Cascha? It could be Casha Anhidar. She works for a merchant called Quard who ... who is know by very few merchants and nobles. He has a trade wagon that travels to Issmenadore and back and gets special contraban for important people. He is very well connected and I had heard he dealt in slaves, but convicts punished with hard labour not in law abiding people. Casha, I think, is just one of his workers." Nisma paused as she looked at the captive. She was clearly out of her depth. "I do not think Quard's people dress like that."

Nisma wrote:
"You are blessed with the ear of the gods, a true holy woman! We are honoured to have you in our home. Surely Suburse watches after you my daughter to have sent you such company."

Cairee blushed at such undeserved praise. She wracked her brain, trying to remember how Tal taught her to respond. "Thank you ma'am. I'm merely a vessel for Saiph to do her good work. That it has brought me to your daughter and your fine home is my great pleasure." Her heart was still raising, but Cairee took a beer, grateful for the offer of hospitality, and sipped at it politely.

Does Cairee know who Suburse is?

Nisma wrote:

There had been enough bloodshed for one day. Perhaps she could avoid more. Cairee poured a drink of water and brought it over to the trussed Burglar. She held it to his lips, allowing him to take a sip. Then she puts a hand on his forehead and allows some of Saiph's power to flow from her into him, relieving the pain of some of his wounds.

You healed him so I'm moving his 'attitude' from hostile to unfriendly. The DC of your Diplomacy check is 22 so you succeed in reducing unfriendly to indifferent, but you'll need to make another diplomacy check to get information out of him. Roll diplomacy vs DC22 (indifferent +cha mod+ level of the information). Someone can aid this roll. *If you try to use 'Enhanced Diplomacy' again he will understand that you are using a spell to influence the situation.
The burglar Zahra heard called Th'lath was not just conscious, he was whole as if no spear or foot ever touched him. The cut in the belly of his robes and the blood dried on his stomach said differently though. He looked at the group, his new captors, trying to understand what his fortunes would be. His mind seemed unmade.

Zahra's mother's words washed over Dounia like a balm. In her mind, Cyra's voice said, You did what you had to do. You are not a child, do not act like one. Taking deliberate deep breaths, she washed her hands carefully until no trace of blood remained. Her blouse was ruined with it, but she did her best to ignore it as she sat politely to eat.

As she listened to Zahra and her mother speak, Dounia said, "Quard! Yes, we heard of him! It was his wagon, but the guards said he died in the mountains. Arachthropoi. There was a lady in a red dress, she was in charge, and she was angry the wagon was late."

A moment later, however, Dounia was struck with the thought...if only a few, presumably disreputable, merchants and nobles knew of this Quard, why did Nisma know of him?

Suburse (emeilu/soo-bur-SAY: dwell in the earth) - The second child of Leil-a (the Sun Queen), and the first son. The quietest and wisest of the three children of Leil-a and Badr.

For some he is the god of endurance, perseverance, martyrdom; the ideal of self-sacrifice for the truth and the power to transcend the body with absolute empathy; god of patience and lord of the earth; the healer, confessor and maker of peace; the middle child; prayed to for cleansing and renewal of strength. To others he is the evil eye (asar xul), god of spite, eater of fear; lord of emotional control and the wain of strength through pacification; god of earthquakes and volcanoes.

The avatar of Suburse is the earth elemental 'Pukumpam'

She'll try to give an assist but these people did break into her home...

Zahra was torn. They obviously needed information from the remaining burglar which would suggest she should be nice but this man had been rifling through her bedroom which made her want to kick him. In the end, maturity won out. She needed to be responsible and help her family as much as she could.

Zahra nodded along with Cairee's words. She softened her face in order to erase any tension. "The people of Zhayalammar take care of their own no matter what they've done. At least that is what my parents taught me. If trouble has brought you to our home today, we need to know why so that we can do our best to help."
