Can Tal Recall Knowledge and tell if the web is abandoned or still lived? Lots (most?) of spiders consume their webbing each day and spin anew which means I might be able to tell if it's freshly spun.

With the spider dispatched, it's easy to cut the webbing and look around. Carrufikus spots a wrapped up bundle of bones and dried skin that looks like it was some sort of small, reptilian creature (likely a kobold). The bundle also contains a few items of value. The first is a shortsword that has a small emerald in the pommel. While the sword isn’t magical, the fine craftsmanship and precious gem make it worth 5 gp!. There is also potion that pings as magical.
