GM Parrot
Hi folks! Here it's Sunday evening and I haven't made a character or learned the 2e rules. I'm only barely keeping up with posts in my other games, and I've been asked to DM a new discord-video-based game with people I used to play with in person. It's a lot of DnD/PF for me, even being pandemic unemployed--probably too much.
I really appreciate the Commandant's invitation, but I feel like I'll just be slowing you down if you wait for me. Please go ahead and start. If my situation changes/a game drops/I realize I should be playing PbP instead of xyz silly tasks that somehow fill my day, I'll let my pal Commandant/Bedlam/Dorian know by begging for another chance. Dorian: the invitation and your PMs encouraging me to join/play mean a lot to me, even if I can't pull it off. Keep bringing the dwarf alchemist madness in our game, please! And maybe a parrot will be reading over y'alls shoulder and learning the 2e rules as you go...

Detective McSlither wrote:Detective McSlither, your kid-loving Crime Lizard, reporting for duty. (Iruxi Investigator)Unfortunately, Detective McSlither had some blemishes on his record that were highly problematic. He has been transferred to a desk job in Diobel pending completion of several investigations on his conduct.
In his place, I greet you. My name is Father Emmett Slade, cleric of Damerrich. I've spent the last several years providing spiritual guidance to Absalom's Executioners Guild. We've been extremely efficient in carrying out executions lately creating some downtime. I'd like to use the extra time to join you on this developmental assignment in Absalom's guard. My greataxe is ready to assist!
I...uh...well our recruitment process has been a bit loose due the time constraints; concerning the Festival's magnetic affects....
Welcome Cadet Father Emmett Slade!
So, Kurt was AoA a factor...lmao!

@Parrot. You are always welcome!
@everyone. We will proceed with 5 players. It is meant for 4 pcs; I will attempt to run it as written.
Let me know when we are ready.
@Faktar can you show everyone how to get their character sheets linked to their profiles for ease of access here?
Roll20 character sheets are for your convenience for researching and such.
Thank you!
Commandant Lassard
All Cadets
You will all be issued standard Edgewatch equipment. All costs will be taken directly from your weekly pay, along with board in the barracks.
Standard issued equipment includes: Edgewatch uniform, badge, baton, manacles.
There is other equipment that will be available as you complete missions weekly at the precinct.
If everyone can provide an easy accessible Link to your character sheets in your Profile, please.

Did a quick search for a statblock for 2e and came across this post.
As far as adding a link to your character sheet in your profile you can do so with the [url] tag. [ url=http://yourlink.com]linked text[/ url] without the extra spaces of course. You need something to link of course, I uploaded a PDF I exported from pathbuilder into my Google Drive.
It's recommended that you put key stats the GM will need in the race, classes/levels, and/or gender fields in your profile. This text will appear below your name and will be easy for our GM to reference. I need to do this myself but I'm not 100% sure what he needs to see. Likely at least AC, HP, saves, and perception.
Edit: I've added my tags, if you can think of anything to add let me know.
Commandant Lassard
I actually forgot about the tag lines...lol.
Yes; if everyone can copy/paste Ren's format; that would be great...mm...k.
Initiative defaults to Perception; but, depends on Exploration Activity.

Hello Kurt. Welcome to the Edgewatch Precinct. Miss Canella Reporting for duty.
Faktar
Trained knowledges might be helpful too as they're technically supposed to be secret rolls because if you roll low enough you can get bad intel.
For some reason I wasn't getting updates earlier today, not sure what happened there.
Ono.
"Ono reporting for duty. Looking forward to doing a bit of good, and finding a bit of excitement."
Ono appraises each of you in turn, then nods his approval.
Perception: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (19) + 6 = 25
Commandant Lassard
This is exciting! If all is ready; I shall work on the initial Gameplay post soon....
....flip through your Player's Guide, Cadets; to familiarize yourselves with the City.
Commandant Lassard
I will endeavor to get our game under way today!
Please copy/paste your tag lines for ease of reference.
Also, it really will help me if each can link your character sheets-- or just use PF2 Crunch format that Ren found-- on your Profile page.
Thanks Ren!
Please post here your default Exploration Activity
Good luck Cadets!
Commandant Lassard
Oh, some Cadets still need to choose a token for Roll20 for the maps....

Please post here your default Exploration Activity
A lot of these seem situational. If its not important how fast I move I will use detect magic.
Oh, some Cadets still need to choose a token for Roll20 for the maps....
I think I did it?
Miss Canella
I will do scout until something else is needed.
Faktar
I just want to note that the picture posted for the Lieutenant suggests this amazing piece as a similar picture and it is fantastic. The Virtuoso of Flavortown.
Commandant Lassard
Now that is an amazing pic!
@Faktar please download a pic for Roll20, sir kobold....
Commandant Lassard
Speaking of Hero Points (I was actually admiring Ren's tagline...lol); each of you have 1, and, depending on our pace; I will give out at least 1 a week. You may only have a max of 3, so use them!
I am also stealing an idea from Trik. Using a Hero point will grant you a reroll +2.
Commandant Lassard
Apologies; but, I should have already provided this information.
near the center of the Precipice Quarter under the command of an
infamous veteran of justice, Lieutenant Grospek Lavarsus. The station is
a cramped and crowded affair, with a desk-packed main workroom and
a few private offices and interrogation cells. Most of the younger guards
live in an attached barracks, while guards with their own lodgings and
families sleep elsewhere. A small cafeteria and a heavily guarded armory
and evidence locker round out the installation.
Agents can purchase gear from the Edgewatch’s quartermaster, including
all the common adventuring gear, weapons, and armor from the Pathfinder
Core Rulebook and the new items in the Adventure Toolbox (see page 77).

Thank you Ren for the advice.
No problem! If you get some time please check out these excellent posts about the general conventions of PbPs. They explain it much better than I ever could. I'm always glad to see more people give it a shot.

I guess I will Search as well. I’ve got decent Perception, it no Knowledges for Investigate.
I also go this working on my phone! That will make it much easier to check and post. :)
Commandant Lassard
Miss Canella: Scout
Ono: Search
Faktar: ?
Ren: Detect Magic or Investigate?
Emmet: Search
Miss Canella
I will Ren. Thanks again.
Father Emmett Slade
Since the "adventurers" have made a hostile move, should we roll for initiative or does one of us need to announce an attack first?
Commandant Lassard
I don't like to assume....you are each in your Exploration Mode as you enter.
I will post after work once everyone is ready...
Ono.
I’m ready. Are we rolling Init in Roll20, or on the board?
Also, do you want any Roll20 macro buttons added to the game? Stuff like initiative and saving throws? Or is most everything rolled in posts?
Commandant Lassard
Roll20 is only for maps
Remember there are certain Actions which--normally-- cannot be taken once Initiative is rolled, so I plan on allowing for those circumstances.
Commandant Lassard
If you two want to also attempt a Make an Impression roll; go for it. Just let me know who you are targeting?
Remember it does take 1 minute of smoozing...lol.
Commandant Lassard
This is what Ren is attempting.
Coerce
This is what you may want?
Group Coercion
or for Diplomacy Group Impression
It's a game of inches...lol!
@Father Emmett only allowing 1 attempt per Cadet; because they are Hostile and each attempt takes 1 minute.
@ Faktar and Ren which are you targeting?
Faktar
Watanabe Ren
OMG, really? So you're saying there's a feat for that, and not a great feat for it either cause it goes from 1 to 2.
So if I'm giving a public speech I have to look each person in the crowd in the eye for a minute and talk to them personally to have any chance of swaying them.
I'll target the one who's mouthing off.
Commandant Lassard
The number of targets increase if you increase that particular Skill to Expert, Master, so on.
When you Make an Impression, you can compare your Diplomacy check result to the Will DCs of two targets instead of one. It’s possible to get a different degree of success for each target. The number of targets increases to four if you’re an expert, 10 if you’re a master, and 25 if you’re legendary.
Faktar
For all that I like the revised action economy, 2e gets pretty granular at times.
It leads to absurd situations like 5 cops barging into a tavern and all yelling over each other at different perps across the room to calm down.
Ono.
Trade offs. It gets everyone involved (at least early on), and allows a character to develop into a true party face. However, it also requires everyone to be involved...
@GM - I can diplomacize as well, although I didn’t roll anything. I think I’ve got a +5 maybe? I need to find an easy way to reference my skills and stuff. :D
Ono.
I’m not really defending it. I’ve got a few marks against the system myself. Such as the heavy dependence on conditions. It’s kind of rough on the GM trying to track all that right from the get go, and it only gets worse at high levels. As a GM, I will sometimes just skip mob abilities that bestow conditions because I don’t feel like dealing with them... ;)
Faktar
In the designer's quest to close all the many rules loopholes in PF1, they've ended up creating a very granularly prescriptive system, with very tight math backing it up. I love that it seems to have curbed abuse opportunities by quite a bit, but it definitely creates a different feel to the game. It hasn't fully clicked with me yet.
