Ok, the opening scene and Ismene's shopping dialogue are up! Ismene is written assuming she has at least one shopping buddy, since it seemed Thonis was maybe not up for girl-time just yet. So Viviana, possibly, and implying Shiyara is the shop-owner.

Vivi is certainly there, shopping with Ismene. :)

I think i've figured it out. Thonis is close to broke due to Maxillar Pythareus so she won't be shopping. But she could patronize Zahur's place since it's both "neutral territory" in terms of exclusivity and a trendy place to be seen.

Otherwise I can see her and Torin together. Since his star is on the rise but he's a commoner he's a person she can beneficially be seen with and he wouldn't have the backchannel knowledge that she's sort of a persona non grata. If he's participating in a tournament or contest she'd show up for that. I'll hold off on a gameplay post to see what Torin's up to.

I'll go ahead and say a little about the approach Thonis will be taking since she might seem a little odd in her attitudes otherwise. Thonis thinks Princess Eutropia is just fine, but she's not necessarily a huge booster. She's just not political enough to care much. However her hatred for Pythareus is marrow deep. If he's for it or it's good for him, Thonis is absolutely against it. In short she's a negative partisanship character, at least at first. Her interests in becoming involved are revenge and a pathway back to respectability via Martella Lotheed.

If you'd like a quick character reference for what to expect from Thonis, Cordelia Chase is a pretty good one.

Torin would be happy for "any" company. He doesn't get let out much. I'm glad I held off on posting last night so that I could get feedback from the DM and a chance to interact with other players. I will wait for Thonis now.

Oh wow, I keep forgetting things in my excitement this morning! Arthur, my dude, your character is an amazing peacock. I thought Torin might be trying to play a part and act a bit boisterous, but he will look downright reserved next to your character. I love it. Please keep doing everything you are doing!

I swear, Pullman is the smallest town in the middle of nowhere that everyone has been to. I spent the better part of a decade's worth of summers there and a handful of Christmases as my mom was getting increasingly more educated.

@Thonis, yup, Royal City is that blip on the radar, you sneeze and you could miss us. We recently stayed at Rockaway Beach for a week and shied away from Portland. Though it was dark o'30 when we went through. We likely would have stopped and stayed with friends in Portland if COVID was not happening.

Will do Torin! He is practically a royal in his mind, so nothing can hurt him, then add the bravado of a bard and the wrath of a barbarian. Yup anything that hits him just slides off and becomes gold!

Now we need to see if the beauty in his eye is willing to wrangle him down or if he will run free again?!

That reminds me of something I noted. A monk with a fighter's max gold has a ridiculous budget. Not something I considered initially for a gestalt build, but pretty impactful.

Also my daughter has been home sick this week, so I haven't had as much free time as I expected with her going back to school. She went two days and then came down with a cold. I can't say I have much confidence in these masks considering... >_<

Masks are just an extra step. They do very little for grimy kids always rubbing at their eyes and playing in the dirt. On the upside healthy little buggers are the least at risk from covid. ;)

The main reason for my gather information was to find the best place to perform. Once I get my coins, I might look for some random rumors.

I myself have been watching my 2 year old and not getting my work done as much as I would have hoped.

Well, she wanted to run with us and I'm sorry to lose her, but Vivianna feels she just has too many obligations on her time right now to really join us in the game.

But now the question becomes, do we recruit another player or roll on like we are? A lot of us can dabble in healing but no one is really focused on it. Do we just choose to support our healing needs with potions, items and wands?

What do you guys think?

Not trying to pigeonhole anyone into healing if they don't want to, but we have two bards, an oracle, and a witch. Even if two of those are the same player I'm not sweating the healing. Says the guy who blocks with chest.

Not much of an initial post but the day was long and hard.

I'd say we'll be okay without a cleric for healing. One of the reasons I combined Oracle with another spell casting class was so I'd have more flexibility with my Oracle spell selection to take some of the basic healing spells. If all we spell casters divide up the burden and take a couple each, we shouldn't be too heavily dependent on magic items for our healing needs.

I have a wand of cure light already but it only has a few charges. We can make due. Sorry to see her go.

I'm also in favor of not inviting anyone. We already have plenty of players and as Torin said, many have the capabilities of healing.

I'm a bit confused by Thonis's timeline post. As far as I understood, the current day we are roleplaying is the day before the Gala and Martella arranged the meeting in Mamma Crow before the Gala, so tomorrow.

Is Thonis meeting Torin also today at Mamma Crow's, or is her post refering to the meeting with all the other players and Martella?

You will be fighting in the tournament the afternoon/evening following your lunch with Thonis. Our group lunch will be the following day prior to the Gala.

I sort of forgot today would be Saturday when I said I would move us to the tournament "tomorrow". Weekends are optional so I will probably make the tournament update Sunday evening.

Once again, "today" in gameplay is a festival day of shopping, street faire and the Tournament. "Tomorrow" is the big group lunch meeting that will include Martella Lotheed and later the Gala.

So do you fellas want to face off against each other, or do you prefer to face some NPC fighters?

I will admit I am still getting a feel for Torin. Haven't really played a character like this before. I've done a brash and cocky barbarian, earnest and dedicated knight, and a reluctant and uncertain sorcerer. He is kind of a mix of those different personalities.

@Torin: Apparently you are new to these boards, so I'll share with you some general guidelines most of us use when posting that makes everything easier to read.

When posting your character's speach, use bold.
When posting your character's thoughts, use italics.
When posting an OOC comment, use OOC.

If, for some reason, your character is speaking in his mind, perhaps with telephaty or another personality, you can combine bold and italics.

The instructions for all of these commands (and some more) are detailed bellow the posting box on a spoiler called "How to format your text".

You don't have to do this, but it really help the other players to know for sure what are your intentions.

About the next scene towards the tournament, Zahur will not participate in the proper fighting, but could spectate if Torin is a good customer and invites him.

I'm not new to the boards. I just don't always format my posts. Especially late at night. One reason I tend to post earlier in the day. You're not even the first person to make this kind of post about it.

I wanted to post last night to keep the pace up.

Apologies for my delay. Got a bit busy with errands and shopping yesterday and the day got away from me.

I've decided we'll set the combat up as a 4 for all. We'll open with both of you on the field along with an opponent for each of you. If you both finish off your competition, you can then face off with each other to win the match.

I broke my post so I am not both sweeping through dinner and moving to the stadium on Thonis and Zahur. I'll give them a chance to post before following up in the late evening/morning.

You need not completely conclude one scene before beginning the next. Just add a heading to help prevent confusion as to when the RP took place.

I do have one question for our tourney combatants:
"Which is more important in battle, offence or defense?"
