Hello again everyone.
I should have the permissions on the maps set up so everyone can add tokens, etc.
I will be doing some further work on the google slides later this weekend. One thing I plan on doing is creating a slide that keys my lovingly drawn map of the Gallery (it seriously did start out life as a piece of graph paper with my pencil scratchings on it--check out slide #5).
There will be some opportunity for some posting here in discussion and in gameplay by Sunday evening this week, though I don't anticipate serious gameplay for another week or so.
Anyway, you'll be hearing more from me by Sunday.

Hi GM Quirk, you mentioned previously that our pc's should have skills relevant to their job as you will be using day job-like rolls. Does this mean specifically a profession skill, or more generally a related skill?
ie in my case Profession (Instructor) vs Acrobatics/Athletics/other
Thanks in advance.

Gath of Akiton |

Google doc seems to be working. I dropped a picture of Gath on slide 1 by pact world pastries.
I still have to shop for Gath, but otherwise I think he's statted.

Progress Report: Character sheet skeleton assembled and species adjustments added. Will be working on it more throughout the week after work. Sorry for the delays, folks!

GM Quirk |

As we all continue to get things ready to play in the coming week or so, here's something to keep in mind: I'd like to think your characters do, in fact, all know each other. After all, you have been doing business (and perhaps grown up) in the Gateway District, having gotten to know many of the "regulars" who live there.
The song "WHO ARE THE PEOPLE IN YOUR NEIGHBORHOOD" from the American children's show Sesame Street is going through my head.
And I can't get it out.
More guidance from the GM coming soon.

Being the thrill-seeking showboater she is, Sen's probably annoyed everyone in the party once or twice with near-collisions or last-minute deliveries because she decided to do some stunts instead of just going from Point A to Point B efficiently. :P

Gath of Akiton |

Big, shambling, and slack-jawed, with a oversized, tusked lower jaw broader than its cranium, the four armed shobhad does not give a first impression of intelligence. Its armor, surmounted by a fiber-rope harness from which hang openly displayed blades, and the long rifle slung on its back, coupled with its size, do provide a a definite impression of menace.
When it opens its mouth to speak, it confirms the absence of great intelligence, but belies the impression of menace. Its speech is slow, deep and softly gentle. "I'm Gath. Where's your favorite place?"
Gath can often be seen lumbering throughout Gateway. He often carries an empty wooden box from the Acme Powdered Cleanser Company slung on his back.
He'll stop and sit on the box so that his head is even with or even slightly lower than most medium sized creatures when he accosts them about their travels, preferences, or aspirations.

Wow. One of the best shopping experiences I have ever had. Got exactly what I needed for Gath and spent all my money without a lot of soul searching. And in the process revealed something to me about him.
If you're interested here's his stuff:
Armour: Shobhad Harness, Recruit -- Terrible armor. but traditional
Sniper rifle: Shobhad horizon striker, tactical (large),
Ammo: rounds, longarm and sniper,
Melee 1: doshko, tactical (large), -- FLavor this as a large unbalanced homemade great-club. He can't use it well, but if it hits it could be a killer.
Melee 2: knife, survival (large) -- This is really a tool, which can double as a reliable minor melee weapon.
Cash: 0 This is especially perfect for Gath.
But while buying his stuff, I was thinking more deeply about Gath's connection to his culture -- I was always going to outfit him with shobhad gear, and it's tied to his relationship with his father -- and I realized that Iomedae, or maybe Sarenrae, is his religious lodestone. He just does not know it yet.

I added A token for Thak to the map. He's standing outside A12, looking across the platform and thinking of how interesting the day could be.
And making sure his pistol is loaded.

Goldenarms is often seen accompanying a couple of other individuals— dressed well, and checking in on businesses from time to time– always in the role of an attendant.
They were one of the first to react when the Shirren collided with an individual who froze when they saw them approaching. Injuries sustained were minor and not requiring further medical attention.
Sleeved and gloved, they spoke with Gath for a fair amount of time when taking some leisure time in the Gateway. The tea garden served excellent tea— if you knew how to ask for it. They did admit to the large Shobhad that they thought of everything as a puzzle, but the first step was learning how to see it before one could start to decipher it.
Thak had exchanged the occasional session with his patron, or more specifically her daughter when she was "negotiating business".

As promised, here is your update.
We really are getting close to starting, I promise! I apologize for the delay.
Here's a timeline of what I have in mind:
Within the next couple of days, I hope to make a post over in gameplay. It will just feature some of the sights and sounds of The Gallery. Perhaps it will be an opportunity for your characters to interact a little bit.
By the end of the week, perhaps this weekend, there will be an encounter for you to deal with, or perhaps a problem to solve. It might not be directly related to the adventure you'll be starting, but it will be a chance to roll some dice and see what your character can do.
The adventure! That's next week. No real spoilers, but let me hint at what will be going on. It's a missing person adventure taking place mainly in the Gateway District. I call it "Cult of Personality." It's one of the first adventures I created for Starfinder, and it remains interesting. Obviously I have run this once before a long time ago, and I have customized somewhat for this group. I hope you'll meet a few memorable NPC's.
After that, you'll know the Gateway District, and I hope we'll be able to experiment with more of a "sandbox" style of play, but that is at least several weeks away.

Here's an update of my own! The majority of Sen's stats are finished, now I just need to stat up her zoomboard (her drone) to complete the puzzle, but as is she's at least playable in an encounter like the one you've announced!

Gath of Akiton |

Being the thrill-seeking showboater she is, Sen's probably annoyed everyone in the party once or twice with near-collisions or last-minute deliveries because she decided to do some stunts instead of just going from Point A to Point B efficiently. :P
"Hey!" Gath staggers to one side as the shirren carooms off him and zips down the aisle. "That wasn't nice," he mutters at the back of speedy shirren who is already out of earshot.
...
Sleeved and gloved, they spoke with Gath for a fair amount of time when taking some leisure time in the Gateway. The tea garden served excellent tea— if you knew how to ask for it. They did admit to the large Shobhad that they thought of everything as a puzzle, but the first step was learning how to see it before one could start to decipher it.
...
Gath nods philosophically while Goldenarms draws his analogy. "I like puzzles."
A few weeks later they meet again when Gath is sitting on his box accosting passers-by near the entrance to the tea garden. Gath breaks off a conversation with a maraquoi, "I'll be right back."
The maraquoi slips away while Gath slips a cloth sack into Goldenarms' hands. Inside side are crudely carved chips of resin, a homemade tangram.

Zousha, I love the zoom board.
Question, I'm not sure what your intent is, and so don't know how Gath should respond. Reading your post straight -- Sen is known to the group as a flamboyant local, but not personally. She'd be a stranger that Gath recognizes. Reading your post ironically -- Sen is indeed already friends with the group, but is having a bit of fun about not knowing Thak.
Please let me know which way you want me to play it.

I was playing it straight. You guys don't appear to hang out in the same social circles Sen frequents (garages, racetracks, that kinda thing).

GMQ, I was poking around the Archives of Nethys and I want to change some of Gath's spells. I'm going to switch out detect thoughts and life bubble for the spirit-bound spells or maybe might of the ellicoth. Any strength deficient PCs need a large valet?

Yeah, Sen's just popping up from increasingly improbable angles behind Gath and taking measurements like it's in a Saturday morning cartoon!

therealthom |

GMQ, finally looked at changing out Gath's spells. I thought I had a lot to play with, but what I'd done was leave 6 candidate spells to winnow down at a future date. So I narrowed them down to my allotted two, mystic cure and remove condition. Noticed that Gath's header was out of date -- connection was listed as xenodruid, but he's been statted as an empath for a long time now. I fixed the header.
I think he's all set now.

Also, I'd originally pictured Locket's personality being very different - sort of cool, smooth, calm, politely aloof.
For some reason, he has ended up being more abrasive, dry-witted, jibing, sarcastic. Especially if he likes you.
He is not meant to be an a-hole, and I hope that I have been able to express those little clues to convey that sense to you all. If it ever seems too much or becomes irritating, please let me know.

Me'mori |

Couldn't get back in edit my last post to say nice back-ground rationalized diplomacy post, Me'mori.
Thank you. I'm feeling out the Android race as somewhat distant, as sorting emotions are always something that is constantly being examined, and I'm not sure where the concept of "self vs object" is for them.
That, and tossing in little background touches where applicable is one of my major challenges— so when it comes to the fore, it isn't out of the blue.
I admire the grasp you have of Gath. It feels like you have him pretty well sorted out in your head.

Locket Alyara |

Just wanted to say that I've enjoyed the glimpse into Goldenarms' thought processes as well.

Excuse me while I display my complete newbie status... I just discovered this board today! Oops.
As I'm checking messages on the game board and seeing what's new, I accidentally notice this "Discussion" tab that says I have 25 unread messages. What the heck is that? And then I find out.
Oy, am I behind the times...
Thank you all for the positive feedback -- I appreciate it! I love how everyone is creating the story and developing their characters.
Second on Locket's comment about insights into how Goldenarms thinks through things. That's very cool.
I played RPGs for a (cough) long time and did play-by-email board games in the past, but this is my first try at a PbP game. I'm having a blast!
This is exactly the outlet I needed to keep my brain level and happy right now.
Here's to the coming action!
