Milo can tell the tunnel "ends" about 300 feet down, then probably goes up again. see side-view map

![]() |

Plan: Milo casts fly on Rallas. Enora casts fly on Kali. Tess uses her fly hex. Those three start down, and when near the bottom, Milo uses Dimension Door scroll for Milo, Enora, and Kali (using lights to guide the way). You are now at C2 on the side-view map.
The tunnel leading from the chasm maw ends at a shallow pit before making a sharp bend upward. Approaching this location, the wind gusts become staggered and less violent (now only strong on the wind table). Hundreds of bones line the bottom of the pit, running about a foot deep. But it appears that the only way is up. The vertical shaft corkscrews as it rises, making any attempt to scout with the dancing lights fail after a short time.

Ghukar, more use to hurting things and not fixing them, had no real idea about the bones but the rod made from the femur, that was odd. Taking a moment to swap cloaks, he inspected the item.

"One of those things??? I thought they were a fable until I'd read the more recent Society Chronicles of the Witch-King Odradek. Madness..." She mutters as she inspects the bones...
Auto-pass with Profession (Undertaker).
"Humanoids, mostly. They were 20 in all, maybe more - and that's not even counting all that's below the ice!"

![]() |

Undertaker would work for this, no other info though.

![]() |

Ghukar looked it over, "Hum, it might come in handy but awfully hard to predict what will happen. Still..." he said with smile. "mind if I hang on to this?" he asked the group as he swapped cloaks.

Heal: 1d20 ⇒ 12
Milo stares at the pile of bones with an indecipherable look on his face.
"Gaspin' didn't snuff these." He mutters. "Some sorta knackered crimping shop."
"Don't get this many bones from some barmy bludger with a sticker. Only scroll thumpers get this carked."
He glances at the only obvious way out.
"Best roll, 'for the shine goes rusty." He says, pointing up the tunnel.
This tunnel as bad as the last? If so, best to go up while some are still flying.

![]() |

As you search the bones and item, the winds pick up suddenly, generating a slight cyclonic effect - which churns into a blinding cloud of ice, bone, and dust. You are caught within the icy whirlwind, temporarily blinded by dust and ice and battered by wind-whipped bones.
bludgeoning damage: 1d6 ⇒ 4 (DC 20 Reflex for half)
Assuming those flying will need to carry those who cannot. I have Kali carrying Ghukar, Rallas carrying Enora, and Tess carrying Milo.
To avoid another battering blast, you quickly move up the spiraling cavern about 150 feet. Here the passage slopes up radically, exposing a wide fault in the rock that creates a natural overhang that blocks some of the passageway. The tunnel appears to continue up, around, and over the crag.
A bit of loose snow falls from the ledge above from the finicky winds within the chasm.
New map! You will be coming up through the hole, in pairs as noted above. You could land on the ground here but note that those with weapons that were carrying other PCs will need to draw them.
Alternately, you could ignore this cavern overhang (C3 on the side-view map) completely and continue spiraling straight upward with your ongoing fly spells.

Reflex: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (2) + 7 = 9 4 temp hp's gone
Milo gets positively livid at the mere suggestion he get 'carried' up the tunnel.
After a suitable amount of cussing and inappropriate commentary, he says a few arcane words, and is flying once again, himself.
Will use my Arcane Bond to recast Overland Flight on myself.
When Ghukar mentions there might be enemy above them, the small gnome frowns, then removes a metal rod from his belt, then casts a quick illusion and disappears from sight.
Taking out a metamagic rod (not using it, just want it ready, in case) then casting Vanish, before we move up past the ledge in question... well unless we're bypassing it entirely... though not a big fan of leaving an enemy behind us.

Rallas charges forward, unsheathing his weapon and striking hard at the closest foe on the wall. Two of the other creatures scramble along the wall and leap from the ceiling to avenge their kin.
Ghukar is quick enough to snap off an explosive bomb to light the cavern. With the way they moved to attack Rallas you can get grey and blue in the splash zone with your mastery.
Another creature leaps from the ceiling to slash deep into Kali. Rallas' target scrambles to join his kin but cannot hit effectively.
Tessara's confusion spell goes off like a charm... the effects to be determined, although almost immediately one of the creatures gouges at itself. The final creature takes a flying leap off the far wall and swipes wildly at Rallas before landing on the icy ground.

Milo scowls slightly... something seemed 'off'. Things were on fire... and he wasn't involved at all!
He was ready to toss the flame still burning in his hand... but it just didn't seem enough anymore.
He starts to curse, starting off in common, then shifting into orcish as the words get more obscene as his anger grows.
After a moment the orcish curses turn to arcane phrases in draconic, and those near the shaft feel the temperature take a notable shift upwards.
Suddenly Milo appears, his invisibility dropping, as a small bead of flame lances out from the fire still burning in his hand, across the cavern, to explode in another massive conflagration. Not quite as intense as the one outside... but still a little unnerving in such an enclosed space.
Worse yet, the flames completely engulf Rallas as well!
Casting an intensified fireball, using his metamagic rod of selective spell, to exclude Rallas.

Searching her corpse uncovers a mystic belt of giant strength woven from the scalps of her enemies and threaded with bone beads and tiny fetish carvings. DC 23 Spellcraft identifies it as a belt of giant strength +4.
The six creatures themselves each have +1 studded leather, and two masterwork cestuses. They also each have a vial with some sort of poison inside. Anyone with poison lore can make a DC 20 check to identify it with Knowledge Nature or Arcana.
