I was legitimately worried I was going to TPK until Vixnax tapped deeper into his draconic heritage and saved the day. :)

I had similar thoughts. AOO is super scary vs such heavy hitters.

Typically, you would note it on your last chronicle (e.g. this one) between sessions, since you know you want to buy something now, or at the beginning of your next session, if it's something you think of buying during the briefing.
Things that are bought during a scenario after the briefing will often go on the chronicle awarded for that scenario.
