Baila |
Sorry for going AWOL. Accident. I must sadly leave you before I even start. All my best. And be safe all...
Baila |
Thanks.
Sorry about this.
Be safe guys and gals.

Sorry to lose Eric. I've enjoyed playing with 2 of his Pangea PCs, and you've seen what he was doing with Baila. Good stuff.
Anyway -- here we are at task 1: the Hamisfore Theatorium. I will tell you that so far you've done very well in the meta-game. Yes, the scenario has a meta-game with different victory conditions built around each of the possible dignitaries. So well-done.

OK. Trying to keep the RP flowing, I may have driven us down the wrong road. It's not 'let's put on an amateur musical to save the town park', although if you want to RP it that way I'll give you plenty of patitude. Rules for this encounter call for each PC to make 3 social skill checks to influence the audience.
Bluff, Diplomacy or Intimidate to drum up support in the crowd.
Culture, Life Science, Mysticism or Physical Science to bring up a related fact of the performance.
Perception, Profession, Sense Motive, or Sleight of Hand to note point out something related to the performance or to subtly assist it.
As usual with these checks you can repeat a check, but the success DC gets higher each time.

Hmmm. That may have come out a little harsh. I tilted the RP the way I did to let the thespians among the party have an opportunity. But then when everyone jumped in, I was worried that you thought it was required to participate in the show.
Those are the mechanics of the scene. It is written as if you are all in the audience, but I'll give you lots of latitude (not patitude) with the RP. If you want to put your PC on stage feel free. If you want to influence the peanut gallery feel free to take that tact.

Sorry I have no time to post today. But I wanted to say that I really enjoy this game! Good job Gm and good job team! Keep it coming! Great pcs great interactions, awesome game so far!
Thank you for that!!!

Welcome to SFS crapshoot! Will the random assortment of characters on your team be lacking a key skill?
As Skorp observed, Makai is looking very important right now.
What's your worst party synergy story?
I've got two candidates, both at level 1-2. I had a party where no one took diplomacy, maybe not even intimidate. Absolutely no social traction.
Another party was composed of two biohackers, two technomancers, and an envoy. My 2nd level technomancer was the best pilot, and the best shot. The other technomancer had almost exactly the same build and spell selection as mine did. The other players were great. The game was huge fun, but combat was a real challenge for us.

If it helps I have enough Rep/Fame to have purchased an ally who could make up for some of our skill deficits. Given we are at Absalom station and on a Starfinder mission, requisitioning help from an ally looks to be quite attainable.
Set 1: computer/engineering/physical science? Would at least let us through that door, possibly.
We seem to have set2 (social: bluff, dip, intimidate) covered
#3 doesn't look that relevant to his (culture, medicine, survival)
#4 is life science, mysticism and physical science again.
Makai |
I agree that our team is not optimal in composition, but I think it should be an opportunity for us and GM to look for creative solutions.
We can try to persuade the company employee to give us access codes to open the doors and get access to the ship. We can break through the doors, none of us is STR character, but we have Hammer of Helix ;) I am certain that with enough persuasion she would not mind swinging with the hammer a bit.
I think that with a bit of creative thinking we can make it work.
Skorpahlich |
@GM: I'm confused. Why is the Blue Gremlin unharmed? I made the SR check, and it has Cold Resistance 5, but it was a fire attack. I don't see that it even made a saving throw for half, so I'm just curious what I missed in all that.
therealthom |
It has immunity to fire. Immunities are listed separately from special defenses in the stat block.
I know we've at least one other GM in the group. Have I misruled on this?
Also,
I'm leaving on vacation for 10-11 days with limited or no web access. I meant to give you all a heads up yesterday, but trying to finish up work and get ready for the trip has kept me busy.
I'll try to check back in here one more time.
Skorpahlich |
I wouldn't say "wrong." I'm a 2-star PFS GM, but have never run Starfinder. I would have given immunities as part of special defenses in PFS, but SF is a different system, and it's your table. So not wrong, just different. No worries.
I do hope you didn't read my challenge as a "hackles up" challenge. It was purely a curiosity request. I just wanted to make sure one of us hadn't missed something.
Have fun!!
Shokil |
I often only give one bit of information per "success". If they have five immunities then with a double success I might list two of them. Normally the two most relevant to be fair.
I like how in SF starship scanning it is set out exactly what you learn in which order.
Shokil |
Prod...
Shokil |
D'oh I knew I had seen something somewhere, but must have scanned over it when I was looking.
Shokil |
yay!

Really sorry - My Internet provider changed, the old one cut off and the new one had Covid related issues delaying it, causing my to lose internet for a week - didn't forsee an issue so foolishly didn't warn anyone.
Skorpahlich |
Who are we waiting on? It looks like everyone went or was botted but the gremlin didn't act.
therealthom |
I was interrupted while making my last post, and since then my wife, my home renovation, my computer, and work have conspired to keep me radio silent. I do apologize. Posting from work now -- a bit of a no no but I didn't want to leave you guys hanging any more.
The next week looks rough for me. This weekend is renovation, get ready for a business trip and travel. Next week I'm working on site -- always long days. I will try to squeeze in a post from the hotel each night, but no promises.
When I get back, I'll try to get my computer straightened out, and back on a regular schedule.
Skorpahlich |
To clarify and update my ooc comment in gameplay, you can disregard it.
We got into a table for Gameday. I have another character that I'll use for that. Had kind of wanted to play Skorpy with him, but there will be other chances. I realize GM is going thru stuff with renovation, etc, and don't want to pressure you or anyone else unnecessarily.
Thank the gods that combat is finally over, though.
therealthom |
The gremlins are super annoying. They don't have a lot of combat damage potential, but their mobility and ridiculous array of resistances and the fire immunity make them hard to kill. The feature where failing to harm them with an attack results in damage to a random ship system is a real ship-killer. And you guys had some unfortunate rolls.
We have two encounters left, and an optional one that I feel won't add much to the scenario as a whole. Could we do it in basically two weeks? Maybe if we dropped all RP and went full mechanical dice roller mode. I'd personally rather not because the game was formed under an RP heavy banner; I have really enjoyed what you guys have done during play; and the way things are going I'm not at all sure that I could maintain the needed consistency. (Last evening I was changing tail-lights in the company van in the rain.)
If a large majority of the group was planning to use their PCs in the upcoming con, I would give it a try. With a few votes still outstanding, it looks like the party is split. With your gracious concurrence I think we should stay the RP heavy course.
Makai |
I have enough PC to get gameday covered. I was not planning to use Makai for it. If by fat chance we finish on time I would then sign her up.
@Skorpa - are you certain that you want your grown-up son to see you as an undead Vesk killing machine? :P Kidding of course.
Skorpahlich |
@Skorpa - are you certain that you want your grown-up son to see you as an undead Vesk killing machine? :P Kidding of course.
Hahaha. I taught him (and his older brother) to play D&D 3.0 from the beginner box when he was 6. We played as a family and with their friends until he was in HS when big brother went off to college and we moved out of the country. He's seen me slaughter whole armies and assassinate kings in their sleep. Bwahaha. Oops sorry, got carried away.
But don't worry, we're in a GameDay table with another father-son team, and I'm playing my more gentle-minded android.
As I mentioned earlier, Skorpahlich is based on Scorpius from Farscape, and I can totally see Scorpius as having shot the gremlin like Skorpahlich did.
But I also want to thank each of you for how you reacted to that scene. Excellent RP and exactly the kind of interactions that you can only get in PBP.
phaeton_nz |
Ah ... no ... Phaeton (or Phaethon) was the son of Apollo who wanted a chance to drive the sun chariot. Short version - he crashed it.
