Hi all!
I'm keen for us all to try to post regularly (aim for once or more per weekday and, at least once on weekends). Whilst adventures can be caught in 'conversation loops' back and forth, I will endeavour to keep things kicking along and get the gist of where a conversation is going and keep us pointed in the right direction.
Work, study, and wild parties in Mexico have a way of getting in the way sometimes and if that is likely please leave a post in advance if you know that you may have limited time/ability to post for a period of time (and when we can expect you back).
On that note, I am posting from Sydney, Australia. Most of you will be posting when I am asleep so when I get up around 0500 odd I usually do the catch up over a coffee, and then usually in the afternoon/evening each day.
I will generally roll Initiative (and any other rolls if really required), but not to shaft anyone or railroad them, more in the interest of giving you some sort of outcome to then respond to - I aim to complete a single round of combat within 24 hours.
When in combat, unless a PC has left botting instructions or made arrangement for another player to bot them, I will place any PC that has not posted within the past 24 hours (48 hours on a weekend) on delay.
If a single skill check has been called for, I will accept the PC with the highest skill bonus as the "primary" and all other attempts by PCs for the same check as aiding another.

In many ways, four works better than five for SF.
That said, I'm next to useless in combat.
Altorin Cyrido
|
I am not opposed to 4. We are a sturdy group if anything between Inspiring Boosts and Healing Connection. Might just take a bit longer for our combats.

Up to you, I agree that 4 with the player adjustment is mostly better then a table of 5 but I'm fine either way
I think we have 4 good players and a decent variety of characters so we should be fine with 4
Envoy 6
Soldier (ranged) 5
Operative 5
Mystic 3/Soldier 1
I expect we'll have access to pretty much all skills with that set-up.
I'm decent in combat but nothing special, I just shoot things from a distance and hope that's enough to bring them down at some point ;)

If there's definitely somebody that wants to jump in I'm fine with having them, but I also am fine going forward with a party of 4. Our party comp is well rounded - some combats might be on the more difficult/longer side of things, but I'd rather have a more challenging time than too easy.
Before the "real" mission starts though I'll probably have Zoom go and buy some newer gear. Some missions it doesn't really matter, but for the harder ones it's nice to have all of the gear updated.

I guess we had enough time during the ride here to divide stuff if we want.
I don't have an open armor slot but that thermal capacitor sounds like a nice addition if someone has a slot to spare, resist 5 cold and fire can't hurt to have.
I had to look up what a bloodbrother serum and a subdermal extractor do, but that serum sounds nice to have - you gain cold resistance 5 and regain 2 Hit Points per round for 5 rounds.
I wonder if we'll encounter anything that will deal cold damage ;)
Altorin Cyrido

My natural resist is at 2 for each if someone without any wants to use it.

The abandonment comment in gameplay was a bit tongue in cheek.
Full credit to the writer of this scenario, there is no 'right' way to do things, everything has a pro and a con, and there's really well-considered outcomes for whichever path the players took in the first act. Honestly the last bunch of scenarios from mid S2 have been really solid.

Oh jeez it is so hard and I knew there was going to have to be a decision on it.

| 1 person marked this as a favorite. |
Looking forward I'm probably looking to kick on with 3-02 Subterranean Safari
The other adventure is only 1-4, but the demand seems to be in the 3-6 space :)
Kultainen Vaimo
|
I'd be keen to do that. I'll be 6.2 at the end of this, so it would drop me into 7th.
BTW, busy day for me tomorrow, so I may go quiet. Feel free to bot me as required.

For my idea...does it look like we could actually pull those starfinders out during combat/do something to help them? Or would this be more a case of; if you defeat the enemies in X rounds you can rescue them?
You don't have to tell me of course, but it would be nice to know.
I don't mind spending actions getting down there and trying to help out but I don't want to loose actions in combat since I'm already using a back-up weapon (can't use my big laser or grenades in character...as a player I'm sort of wondering what happens when I fire a sonic grenade at them inside this cave)
Kultainen Vaimo
|
Only one way to find out.
I'll need to check, but I think I have an inmprovision that lets you move with my move action, so if you wanted to get an extra move in to rescue them, that might be helpful.
Kultainen Vaimo
|
actually it converts my standard into a move for you.
Hurry
| Shifty |
From your vantage point - the two starfinders are being consumed by the gem pile. They will be dead in a certain amount of time (sooner rather than later) but getting them out will be an involved process (and require some sort of planned approach).
So yeah - you can have someone start working on freeing a Starfinder, or maybe even a couple of you, but that only leaves a reduced number to fight these skeletons... or you can try kill off the Skeletons and hope you still have time.
Decisions decisions.

Unless something changes before next round I'll activate my jetpack and fly down and see if I can help out or at least find out what we need to help them.
I think Rocket could be the one most easily missed in combat right now in combination with having an easy way to get down.
I'm not sure anyone else can fly/climb/jump down towards them and Zoom does more damage if trick attack works with an attack and Altorin is needed to keep them at bay
Kultainen Vaimo
|
I can't keep the other two up any more, although could suppress that fatigue. My own combat ability is highly sub-par.
But nobody expects an envoy to be good at combat, right?
Altorin Cyrido
|
I can heal myself once my HP starts dipping but yeah they like to beat up on poor Altorin.
Zoombo Deskarin
|
I mean frankly I'm a little worried about losing any of our firepower right now. I get we have to rescue but going from three to two damage dealers is a pretty significant drop, relatively speaking.
Kultainen Vaimo
|
Agreed. I'll move to firing this round, but really, my damage output is not the best.
| Shifty |
You can work to free Iko and Naveret multiple ways.
You can attempt:
* Athletics check to pull them free,
* Mysticism check to manipulate the magical energies within the crystals to slow/reverse the process.
* Damaging the crystal mound enough with a weapon (or vial of universal solvent over one of the Starfinders).
Freeing a Starfinder takes more than one success...

Other then the damage the crystal option Rocket is going to need a lot of luck to free them. Mysticism (trained, not a class skill) for a whole +1 Athletics +5. And feels like a bit of a waste to not attack while we have a damage bonus this round.
I feel like our best option right now is to take down the enemies first and hope we can rescue them later.
Does anyone else want to try to fire a sonic grenade down in the pit and hope it causes a partial cave-in which will hopefully break them free and not kill everyone?

This will start before we finish the current scenario? So I can't use Rocket for the safari right?
Or do you plan to start once the current 3 tables are finished?
Kultainen Vaimo

I've put myself down assuming we start once this is finished. And we survive.

We've been running at a really quick pace (multiple actions and posts a day) and 4 person parties tend to run quicker too - you guys are well into this encounter, the others are just getting started.
Having my life back (even though work is busy) has really given me the ability to get my old post rate back :)

The pace has been nice! With things still pretty locked down here (Work/School from home) I have been stir crazy and the games help, lol.

I got a lot busier, but then we only got asked for 300 not 1000 and so things toned down a bit again.

Yeah, I am a USAF vet and even they were contacting me to see if I wanted to come on reserve duty to help out with stuff. I was like as much as the extra money would be nice...I moved to Japan.

It seems I always learn of new equipment I need in my kits when you GM for me, lol. Universal Solvent in Starfinder and Smelling Salts in Pathfinder (When you rescued a game of Faithless and Forgotten).
