Ibhrim Bin Sayyid |
As the Pugwampis appear Ibhrim sighs and his two hands are covered in stony carapace. "More of the filthy bad luck rats. I won't ask for consensus on killing these buggers." He then stomps on, heading in the direction of the furthest of the vermin.

Double move towards the red pugwampi. I assume the benches are difficult terrain? If that's the case, I think I end with 1 square between us.
No difficult terrain.
The Pugwampi, Yasmeena was waiting for appears on another bench, but that doesn't help it. It's shot straight off the bench again. The others keep shooting as they reappear.

Focus! Aithaloessa rebukes herself, as her last shot narrowly misses and an answering dart buries itself in her shoulder. There are just too many of the little monsters for some of their arrows not to find their mark.
Third time’s the charm, she thinks, concentrating through the pain. Attack: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (8) + 3 = 11 Damage?: 1d8 ⇒ 6 Or not. Sigh.
Still focusing on the capering prat on the chandelier that’s defying her arrows thus far, or the next nearest that sticks its head up if someone else takes down her target first.
Antarah Khaled |
As Antarah is walking over the benches, the pugwampis manage to knock another arrow into their bows and shoot. Fortunately, the arrow shoots straight into the magical shield that he summoned not long before, bouncing off harmlessly. With the pugwampi so close, he concentrates on his magical energy reserve and whispers an arcane word which makes his sword glow faintly with a light blue hue. He uses his new magically imbued sword on the pugwampi close red to him.
Move close to red pug and attack with scimitar. Use arcane pool to enchant sword with +1/+1

Tariq Ibn Ziyad |
As he senses one of the pugwampis nearer than the rest, and he remembers the bad luck these creatures bestow upon all around them, he decides to help Antarah deal with it. That way, also, he avoids being in the centre of the room, attracting all arrows.
Double move.
Antarah Khaled |
Oh, I even had to reroll that, but I guess it doesn't matter much this round
Yasmeena |
Yasmeena continues to maintain her internal dance and looks around to note how many pugwampi remain. Then she takes careful aim and fires.
I'm exactly 60' away from green, if that protects me from the unluck aura.

As a tiny arrow embed itself in one of his arms Ibhrim grumbles. "I've already had enough of these things." As he walks his skin is once more coated in the rocky exoskeleton the others have seen before. It pushes the tiny arrow out but there is a tiny dent visible where it was.
He proceeds to move towards the closes gremlin, the benches slowing him down as he has to move around.

Me again? There must be something I missed, but I won't say no. Here I go!
Now that the pugwampi is trapped between himself and Antarah, Tariq swings his scimitar with both hands in an attempt to cleanse the temple of bad luck.

So, I need help keeping track. Is there any pug still on the ground floor? Why is the red pug out of the building in the map?
Aithaloessa Cyana |
With grim determination, keeping the embarrassing count of errant arrows out of her mind, Aithaloessa continues her efforts to take down the gremlin in the chandelier. Attack: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (8) + 3 = 11 Damage?: 1d8 ⇒ 6 In vain.
OK, I'm loving Aith's potential damage rolls, but I think she's yet to roll double digits on an attack roll.

@GM: I just imagined the mighty Vikings getting to Valhalla and finding a bunch of feasting pugwampis there. They turn to the Valkyries and they shrug and fly back to Midgard to collect some more souls. And I'm getting a kick out of it.
@Aitha: Join the club. We (should) have T's. BTW, you forgot your misfortune reroll =P
Antarah starts moving towards the other pugwampi still on the ground floor and examines the surroundings trying to see the mechanism for the chandelier, and if there's a way to lower it.
Move towards last ground pug. Standard: Search for chandelier mechanism
Perception: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (7) + 1 = 8
Foxy Quickpaw |
@Yasmeena: On the map you're standing right under the chandellier. Also you forgot your unlock reroll for the save.
You have one pugwampi on the chandellier, and one in the rafter. Those are available for shooting all the time. The other pugwampis on the floor, where only one is left, is in hiding at the moment. So you either wait until it reappears, or you give me a route of moving, where you're searching for it. Paint an arrow on map to do so, and I'll tell you if you find one and what actions you have left.
If there is something to maintain the chandellier, it is from above. You notice there is a ladder, that probably leads there (A2a)

Embarrassment's a given, at this point, but could you at least try not to disgrace yourself utterly, Aith? the guardswoman berates herself as she lines up yet another shot at the unspeakably lucky (for it, not her) creature on the chandelier. As her fingers release the bowstring, she catches herself wondering if there's some part of the critters that could be boiled down? enspelled? to make their unluck usable by someone else as well as against them.

Let's say you're outside. Antarah on the other side stands tow to toe with his unluck.

Yeah...
Antarah had a true strike with his scimitar underway, but unluckily, he tripped on the bench's legs and his swing hits another bench nearly making him lose the grip on his sword.
Tariq Ibn Ziyad |
Just when Tariq was ready to go, feeling Antarah's scimitar was keen enought o end the small pest, he facepalms. "What the..." These creatures are like a Halfling's worst nightmare. You certainly unlocked your unluck :P

Yasmeena |
Will save: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (11) + 3 = 14
I'm still very confused about where the enemies are on this map. There is still one more pugwampi, is that right? Is it somewhere I can shoot it? I'll assume yes.
Strangely unhappy that the evil creatures have apparently desecrated a holy place, Yasmeena ceases dancing in place, but still readies her shortbow for a shot at the gremlin in the rafters.

Oh, also, is knowledge about these creatures Knowledge (nature)? Can we make a new check about them if we did one back among the cacti?
Knowledge (nature): 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (10) + 3 = 13
Antarah Khaled |
Antarah nods at Tariq's impressive skill with his weapon.
Foxy Quickpaw |
As Ibhrim didn't get a ranged weapon out he has no chance of reaching the remaining pugwampi right now, and Yasmeena cna't shake the bad luck that's following her in this chapel.
The remaining pugwampi is not interested to become the single target and withdraws to the part, where the ceiling of the chapel is still intact and it can't be seen.
Combat over on this floor.
Antarah Khaled |
Antarah, seeing that the ground floor was clear, sheathes his sword and climbs the nearby ladder.
Foxy Quickpaw |
A thin balcony overlooks the chapel floor some twenty feet below. Two rows of tall-backed wooden choir chairs dominate the southern reach of the balcony, which hugs the chapel’s concave walls. The balcony falls away—collapsed for a span of perhaps fifteen feet—just on the other side of the choir area.
Seven feet above that are rickety time-worn wooden rafters that stretch across the whole chapel. It was a ceiling to the chapel once, but it's broken away in many places to reveal the underlying woodwork. Two huge sections of these rafters have been engulfed in a sort of nest comprised of a patchwork of random bits of cloth.
You see two more pugwampis up there and an area of this attic is walled of with crude made up walls (Red crumbly lines on the map).
Yasmeena |
Yasmeena climbs up after Antarah.
Tariq Ibn Ziyad |
Tariq doesn't seem much convinced that fighting over some time-worn wooden beams against small creatures that bring about bad luck to everyone is the best idea. Plus, he's never been a good climber, much less with his armor donned, so he decides he'll stay here, both feet on the ground, and check that no other pugwampi comes around.
Antarah Khaled |
Antarah exclaims "They're up here!" before redrawing his scimitar and going after the closest one carefully.
Antarah Khaled |
I saw the map, but didn't understand where I emerged very well. That's why I said "carefully", cause it looks sort of crumbling. ;-)
Aithaloessa Cyana |
Seeing a couple of the others disappear out of her line of sight to head upstairs, Aithaloessa advances cautiously into the chapel. Upon realizing that it’s actually a ladder up to the next floor, inconvenient to maneuver with her current weapon, she spares a moment to examine the nearest dead pugwampi as she frees her hands. A crazy idea crosses her mind, as she thinks about how the things can possibly manipulate chance.
“Hair of the dog that bit me,” she says half to herself, before drawing her dagger and stooping to cut a tuft of fur for her pockets. She’s not even sure that it’s the sort of thing any alchemical test she knows will pick up on, let alone let her reverse engineer, but still. She asks, turning to those with the magic to know, “That is what they say, isn’t it?”
Taking a hint from the discussion thread...Know (arcana): 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (11) + 4 = 15 The goddesses look upon us, and laugh.
Antarah's voice calling from above snaps the elf out of her musings, and on her way to the ladder she calls up, "On it!"
Gauging from the order we're going up, I've tentatively put Aith at the far south of the next floor, the back of A3a, I guess?
Aithaloessa Cyana |
I don’t like the sound of that!
As soon as she swings off the ladder, hearing the sound of the floorboards under her feet, Aithaloessa frowns, already making estimates from the creak and the give under her weight, and peering ahead to where Antarah said he spotted more pugwampi.
Know (engineering): 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (11) + 7 = 18 Know (engineering), because unluck: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (13) + 7 = 20 She tries to calculate how safe it would be to proceed, unslinging her bow again just in case the monsters decide to engage at a distance.
This isn’t one of those “no more than X many people so tall within so many paces/squares” sorts of situation, is it? Also, putting on Aith’s snobby engineer hat, who designed this place anyway? Nice cathedral ceilings, and then put a floor right through the middle. Barbarians. :)
Antarah Khaled |
Antarah sheathes his sword, gets his sling and shoots it at the nearest pug.
Shoot: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (9) + 1 = 10
Unluck: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (8) + 1 = 9
Damage: 1d4 + 4 ⇒ (2) + 4 = 6
Aithaloessa Cyana |
“Watch out,” Aithaloessa warns the others, as she rocks lightly on the balls of her feet to remind herself to be ready to jerk back to more stable footing, “The floor’s weak. Safe here, but I’m not sure all the way across.”
She peers cautiously into the dusty shadows of the ramshackle construction under the rafters, nocking an arrow before proceeding one careful step at a time in an attempt to get the best shot she can at the pugwampi Antarah found.
In mechanical terms, based on the map, if she’s got a clear shot at the red pugwampi, Aith will shoot first and then take a move action, heading generally NE to the rough walls, at least until such a point as the footing seems precarious.
Attack: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (9) + 3 = 12 Unluck reroll: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (14) + 3 = 17 Damage?: 1d8 ⇒ 7
Looks like we'll be needing those t-shirts, Antarah. :$
Ibhrim Bin Sayyid |
Ibhrim is about to follow the others up when he hears the creak and then Aith's comment about the weak floor. Instantly the stone carapace melds away into his skin.
"Can't you force those cretins down here? We can't properly hunt them down like this."
Aithaloessa Cyana |
“Copy that,” Aithaloessa calls back as Ibhrim’s voice rings out from below, her own irreverence disguising her anxious concern. ‘Copy that.’ What is this, some sort of scriptorium? Her interior monologue promptly points out there probably is one, in a monastery.
Read “Understood,” if that’s too jarring an anachronism otherwise. :)
Mind racing, her eyes flicker about the balcony, and then… Aithaloessa performs some very rough mental calculations. There, and there, and there…
“Alright, I’ve got an idea,” she adds after a few more seconds. “You two might want to hug the western wall for a bit.”
As she carefully picks her way forward, she draws up at the first rafter that she thinks might be suitable, and draws her sword. She’s not hugely strong, but that’s all the more reason to keep her blade excessively sharp.
“It might be a very bad idea,” she concedes to Antarah and Yasmeena, “but if you want to help…”
She indicates what she thinks are the best candidates to cut to dislodge the pugwampi nest. If she doesn’t hear objections, we can assume that she starts trying her best to hack slice (I'm an *elf,* TYVM) through the appropriate beams.
Yasmeena |
Yasmeena stares at Aith with saucer eyes, and looks down fearfully before stepping back to stay close to the wall. She has stowed her bow, and draws her scimitar. She looks dubiously at the beam and again at her weapon, then shrugs and moves to help her.
