Omrax will offer the climber a lift to the bottom, fully expecting him not to accept.

”Hoho, faster passage to the bottom, lads!” Arnaut cheers from his position on deck next to the main mast of the Seaward Gull. ”Booty awaits us at the bottom!” He pulls out a foot drum and a lure and starts singing his favorite sea shanty.

"You heard the captain, full sheets!" Mr. Phips yells at the crew.

"Uh... that's acting captain." Hamish corrects, with a slight frown. "Acting!"

But the Seaward Gull is already diving towards the bottom of the crevice, at full speed, the tiny sailors racing up into the rigging and across the deck, bringing all its speed to bear.

Hamish curses colorfully, and hurries after.

Omrax wrote:

As Omrax prepares his prayer, Whisper escapes Rokgurn’s custody momentarily to fly in formation with the paladin’s ghostly mount.

The Bold One catches the hawk’s beak opening in his peripheral vision and in a ⚡ FLASH ⚡ Rokgurn’s familiar appears to Omrax alone as an avoral agathion, which mouths the words:

You’re kidding, right?

As Omrax completes his prayer to the Inheritor, the ENTIRE LANDSCAPE ERUPTS INTO BLINDING LIGHT, like the Gallowspire Crater has suddenly been teleported to the surface of the sun.

With the landscape so corrupted to evil by the Whispering Tyrant’s long imprisonment, Omrax can discern no individual entities devoted to the archlich.

When the paladin's eyesight returns to normal, Whisper and the Winged Celestial are gone, and if Omrax mentions the experience to the others, they have no idea what he’s talking about.

Everyone makes it down safely (you may re-up your buffs if you wish). Though some complaints are heard as Jack takes around five minutes to make it to the bottom.

The party moves into the passageway beyond, where Ollysta Zadrian stands patiently in a half-collapsed chamber. She smiles in greeting. “Let me guess.”

A ball of light shines brightly in her hand, although its power seems dimmed by the oppressive atmosphere of the room. “Captain Arnaut took his time and that’s why you’re tardier than the other groups?”

The walls are constructed entirely from the bones of thousands of humanoid creatures, fused together with unknown power.

“It is now time to make your way to the wards and move beyond them. Be cautious, Pathfinders. And may the Dawnflower light your way.”

As you move into the first chamber, you see mounted on the walls are numerous severed heads of a variety of magical creatures and beings, writhing in a mockery of life.

At the opposite end of the room is a trio of crystalline oozes that seem to vibrate, as though in anticipation of strong emotions being brought to bear.

On your turn, Knowledge (dungeoneering) DC 21 to identify the crystalline oozes:
These are carnivorous crystals.

For every 5 by which you beat the DC you may ask one question from >>this list<<

Nearby are twin shuddering masses of sludge and bones that seems to have formed from a mass of muddy grave soil.

On your turn, Knowledge (dungeoneering) DC 22 to identify the muddy masses:
They’re gravesludges. Both of them.

For every 5 by which you beat the DC you may ask one question from >>this list<<

If the ooze is behind furniture, it blocks charging lanes.

Arnaut steps off the deck of the Seaward Gull and salutes the minuscule crew. ”Lovely job Phips - absolutely smashing.” He winks at Olluysta as he puts his hat away. ”Oh don’t look at me like that, Olli - it’s not like the crew actually listened to me.”

For the crystals, any weaknesses? And any resistances or immunities for the sludges?

”If there’s one thing I’ve learned about crystalline creatures,” Arnaut says cheerfully as he pulls a tuning fork from his belt pouch, ”it’s that they’re terrible with harmonics.” He taps the fork against his hand and presses the end against his ear. A pure note floats in the air on his whistle, swirling around the outside edges of the room in quick circles. A shimmering veil descends, silvery motes chiming faintly like bells - until they fall upon the disgusting blobs! An ear-jarring cacophony bursts from each slime, pummeling each creature’s neighbors with pure discordant noise!

Primary damage: 2d6 + 14 ⇒ (1, 4) + 14 = 19
Secondary damage: 2d4 ⇒ (3, 4) = 7

Each creature touched by the cyan circle takes the primary damage, and each creature within 10 ft of a creature that is touched by the cyan circle takes the secondary damage. A single creature cannot take secondary damage triggered by itself, but can take multiple secondary damages from multiple other triggering creatures.

Casting wall of sound in cyan circle and starting Inspire Greatness in our lovely melee types - Marta, Seaward Gull, Omrax, and Jack. If you want to go through the wall, Arnaut can refresh those temp hitpoints next round. Just try to not go through within 10 ft of anybody else, ya?

Rokgurn's heart begins to race at the disappearance of his beloved familiar and he is drenched in a cold sweat as he recalls the past. He had lost a boatload of animal companions in his earlier days as a Pathfinder until his Psyche split apart birthing his companion Whisper. No longer would he need to mourn the loss of another companion as a mere figment of his imagination would now accompany him on his travels and would return each day regardless of the trials that they must endure.

Rokgurn calms his mind and notices that this was a mere trick of magic and that his familiar is still very much alive.

Just a RP Post. This character has lost so many Animal Companions that was becoming obscene. Practically an entire session of Wild Kingdom. I am a little ashamed actually. ;)

"Seem like things you'd be haulin' outta the bilge." Hamish says, at the sight of the oozelike things.

Knowing little of such things, he simply casts a quick spell, hastening the movements of all those around him, then points his fiery cutlass towards the spiky ones on the left.

Casting Haste, affects everyone.

"The Gull's hull should be able to withstand those spikes." He says. "Have at 'er men! Full sails."

"And make sure Poxy Pete keeps his hands to hisself!" He calls after, as the ship lurches forward.

The Seaward Gull races across the intervening space, hitting the strange wall of shimmering sound with a harmonic pulse. The entire ship shudders slightly, and many of the crewmen throw their hands up over their ears, as the tones assault their senses.

6 hp's damage, after temp hit points expended

Still, the ship keeps going, gaining some elevation as it moves forward, sailing right over the rotted furniture in the way, and firing a barrage of harpoons from the guns up front at the nearest ooze. The tops sink in easily, and men immediately start to wind winches next to the harpoon guns, trying to haul their target back towards the ship.

Charge, with haste and Inspire greatness. Single attack with 10' reach, and pull.

As usual she casts shield from her ioun stone and activates judgment. This time she opts for more defensive abilities since she is not sure what to expect from these things. Unlike the mad ships, she is content, however, to wait for them to come to her and hods her position, on the nice firm ground. Besides, the wall of sound looks pretty nasty. And what's the point of putting up a wall like that if you are the one to run through it?

"I say we wait for them to come to us."

Arnaut knows the brightly colored carnivorous crystals are brittle, allowing them to take minor, additional damage from sonic and bludgeoning critical hits. These creatures are also vulnerable to sonic attacks.

The Seaward Gull’s charming, invited boarder who laid the groundwork for a populist takeover prior Acting Captain also recalls gravesludges have DR 10/ good and are immune to acid, cold, death effects, energy drain, fear and negative energy.

"Apart from that, they're quite vulnerable, eh?"

His sonic wall also damages the oozes it touches.

wall of sound calculations, not secret:

Blue: primary -19
Orange: primary -19 x 1.5 vulnerable = -28
Pink: primary + 1x secondary -26 x 1.5 vulnerable = -39
White: primary + 1x secondary -26 x 1.5 vulnerable = -39

Green: Zero, doesn't touch

Marta again ✨casts some defensive wards.

With a warning to his Premier about a sailor reminiscent of Lord Touchy, Captain O’Toole bids the Seaward Gulls to brave the harmonic wall, hands to ears like heroic Iblydosians first encountering Sirens.

Their harpoons strike the pallid carnivorous crystal but fail to do full damage. The scene suggestive of a whaler taking a huge White Whale in the Arcadian Ocean; only underground at a perfect 1:100 scale.

With shoulders to the capstan, the Gulls then manage to haul their quarry 5’ closer to their eidolon ‘o war, landing it on a handy 'beach' for inspection by the lookouts and the quarterdeck.

Omrax turns to Marta with a sparkle (or is a maniacal gleem) in his eye. No use waiting for them to come to us!

Leveling his glowing holy spear of pure light he calls out.

BY THE INHERITOR! Borealis, CHARGE! directly at green!

He spurs the great wolf thru the wall of sound...shrugging off the sonic damage. (Mount probably still takes it, and AOO from crystal if can reach him or wolf 5' up?)

Hands+Mercy: 5d6 + 1d6 ⇒ (4, 2, 4, 1, 3) + (1) = 15 swift healing

AC42-2 vs smite, AC35-2 to others

Omrax +1 Holy Lance, Smite, PA, haste, greatness,charge: 1d20 + 13 + 10 + 4 + 2 + 1 - 4 ⇒ (20) + 13 + 10 + 4 + 2 + 1 - 4 = 46

Oh dang. So I am sure he will get stunned or grappled. But if he makes it through, I am not sure how to even calculate damage. If this is undead or not will make a big difference regarding smite. Crit probably unlikely, but OOOHHHHH if it were! So charge damage I think is 87 (double + holy).
If undead, add 34 more,
if crittable then total would be 242 or 363 or something like that...hah, probably immune to piercing damage or something.

Hmm, unfortunately Omrax and his mount count as two creatures, so they'll both get the primary and secondary damage from the wall of sound. Oh well - that's what the Greatness is for.

Arnaut makes a shooing motion towards Marta and Jack. "Go on - go get in there and punch some goo or something," he says with an award-winning smile. "What's the worst that could happen?" Encouraging complete, the minstrel puts on his Scientist (TM) hat, does his best Evil Scientist (TM) cackle, and throws some glittering dust at the slimes currently duking it out in the AquaDome (TM).

As the harmonics around the oozes starts up, the Seaward Gull seems to list hard to the left, and their is a low mournful wail. Suddenly, it seems like the entire ship is starting to melt. The mast starts to droop to the side and the rails collapse in on themselves. Sailors start dropping out of the rigging like flies, others falling to the deck where they stand, all of their bodies writhing on the suddenly undulating deck.

Seaward Gull's current stunned AC = 38

Well, at least its only 2 fort saves next round. Can one of the bards toss up a countersong maybe? This definitely seems like a sonic effect. 8P

Hamish sees what's happening and curses in surprise. "What witchery be this! On your feet, you scurvy dogs!" He yells.

But the intrepid captain has had insane images in his head most of his life, and these new ones prove little more than a momentary distraction, as his attention turns back to his ship, under siege!

He instinctively moves closer, only to hit the strange harmonic aura himself... (Hamish, Fort: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (12) + 11 = 23) ... though he fares much better than his ship.

"They ain't got no eyes." He reminds Arnaut as the later casts his spell. He scowls at the sudden turn of events, trying to decide whether to pull the ship out.

On the bright side, once you are through the bubble of silence you are fine. It's 'only' a 20' radius. Though you would have to make sure it's not between you and your favorite bard.

Since folks are charging though, can I amend Marta's actions to belatedly follow after casting her spell? Wouldn't want to miss out on any area affect spells. Where is everyone though? Still back at the entrance or inside the wall? The icons are at the entrance except for Omrax.

Letting go of his signature spell fortified with ley line energy four small balls of electricity surround and attempt to zap the pink ooze (Ball Lightning CL 16). Marta ✨casts divine favor on herself.

Paladins lead the way, with Omrax’s heroic charge connecting with the Green-tinged gravesludge, though Iomedae’s Champion and his mount take damage from the curtain of sound as they tear through it.

Arnaut’s glitterdust rains down on the aqueous orb, but fails to work effectively in the churning waters.

With more important things to worry about, Hamish ignores the phantasmal killer, moving forward and readying his Maker’s Call ability to rescue the Gull is it continues to suffer a calamity.

Jack tells Arnaut he’s correct about something!

"You're right, Arnaut, the crystalline oozes are carnivorous crystals, and the muddy masses are gravesludges. The carnivorous crystals are razor sharp, and can entrap and then crystallize your body, but have no spell-like abilities. The gravesludges can swift slam you, drain you with negative energy and turn you into spawn.”

He then provides some useful buffs and begins ✨casting silence. Perhaps hoping to catch Arnaut in the effect?

GM, the 36 misses the Gull, even stunned. Its stunned AC is 38.

And Hamish made one of the Fort saves already (vs the white one), do I have to continue to save vs that one?

Hamish Fort vs pink harmonic: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (11) + 11 = 22
Hamish Fort vs orange harmonic: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (13) + 11 = 24

Hamish winces as the harmonics increase, Rokgurn's watery orb bringing them closer, as it rolls about.

"And I thought the siren's at Grole's Bluff was bad." He manages to say, as he pulls his hat down a little further over his ears. "At least those ones had pleasantly soft bits to make it worthwhile."

"Mr. Phips, get those men back on sails. You lot, man those winches." He starts calling out orders to the Gull, apparently ignoring the fact it appears to be melting like wax under a flame.

Gull Fort vs pink harmonic: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (19) + 10 = 29
Gull Fort vs white harmonic: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (18) + 10 = 28

Whatever he's saying though, seems to be working. Slowly, some of the tiny crew start to get back to their feet, others staggering across the deck to their posts. Even the masts and spars seem to straighten back out, as the ship seems to pull itself back into proper shape quickly.

"That's better. Now fire at that bloody thing!" He yells.

In response, the sound of miniature cannons firing echos through the room, leaving small puffs of smoke to rise from the sides. The men once more manage to take up arms, and re-engage the nearby ooze.

The sailors seem particularly motivated, the battle once more afoot!

The attack bonuses from Inspire Courage and Inspire Greatness do not stack, BTW.

Arnaut sniffs loudly. "I can tell when I'm not being appreciated," he announces loudly, while the world still has time to witness his artistic genius. "But really, Jackolous Nickels, would it kill you to sing something less grating on the ears? I haven't been in this much pain since I attended the premiere of some musical about a newly-ascended goddess dreaming about fey monarchs during the summer solstice." He snaps his fingers and begins to whistle a jaunty tune that somehow harmonizes with both Jack's performance noise and the subsonic hum of the crystals, taking the edge off of both.

Perform (sing): 1d20 + 43 ⇒ (11) + 43 = 54

No more Inspire Greatness, but everyone's already more than 30 ft away so that's NBD. Starting a Countersong performance instead, for those of us who haven't had the pleasure of saving against these crystalline oozes' hum yet.

Countersong:
Each round of the countersong he makes a Perform (keyboard, percussion, wind, string, or sing) skill check. Any creature within 30 feet of the bard (including the bard himself) that is affected by a sonic or language-dependent magical attack may use the bard's Perform check result in place of its saving throw if, after the saving throw is rolled, the Perform check result proves to be higher. If a creature within range of the countersong is already under the effect of a non-instantaneous sonic or language-dependent magical attack, it gains another saving throw against the effect each round it hears the countersong, but it must use the bard's Perform skill check result for the save. Countersong does not work on effects that don't allow saves. Countersong relies on audible components.

With an invocation to the General of Vengeance, Marta pierces the bluesludge doing a good deal of damage. (Though precision damage does not apply to these oozes)

She also indicates her ♡ may be favoring one bard over the other …

Once more ship-shape and Bristol Cassomir-fashion, the Seaward Gull goes on the offensive, her massed broadside *BLOWING* the pale leviathan out of the water off Tar-Baphon’s table in a million glittering pieces, like Captain O’Toole and a shore party had just detonated a stained-glass window factory.

(Thank-you for including all the pluses and minuses, Hamish. Much appreciated!)

In the Inheritor’s Name, Omrax’s first two strikes put the bluesludge down. With a second call to smite the greensludge, his third blow connects, but not the fourth. Nevertheless, the Verdigris Mudpie of Death looks close to returning to the grave.

Arnaut continues his gracious and generous praise of Jack’s obvious talent … while working to neutralize the harsher tones produced by any man or beast present.

His familiar Whisper is safely traveling in his familiar satchel (total cover) within his Handy Haversack. I have moved the counter off-screen for the moment. At this level leaving your familiar out (even a figment familiar) is generally not a good idea. :)

Guys, I have been trying to slow things down a little over the past 48 hours, because the House has been kicking ass on the combat part of this Act (Part 2) and I don't see much point draining your resources when Part 2 is going well.

It's seems like a good time for a change of pace via the Scouting Aid Mission (details in gameplay), the outcome of which has not been determined yet.

So have at it!

(Hamish, you can goahead & post about this is gameplay ;)

Marta + Omrax, although GM Dennis has proclaimed the Scouting Mission a success, there is a chance to earn a Chronicle Boon for your Aid PC if they participate in the Aid Mission they were assigned to.

Also, I was supposed to wait for everyone who wanted to participate in the Aid Mission to roll before reporting. (I reported Rudzik's success shortly after it occurred)

So at the time any future Aid missions are announced, if everyone could advise whether they want their Aid PCs to participate in the Aid Mission, that will help me out ;)

Omrax sailor : 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (10) + 5 = 15

Kinda.

You see, this is an AID MISSION not an Aid Token roll.

So there is no option to supply heroic aid, it is one dice roll with the risk of death to Waki Huro.

Here are the rules in case anyone missed them:

Players can elect to send any number of their Aid Characters of the corresponding role on the mission.

These missions are more dangerous than improving Aid Tokens, but the benefits they provide apply to the whole House.

For each Aid Character sent on the mission, the player should roll:

• 2d6 for a 4th-level NPC Pathfinder
• 3d6 for a 5th- to 8th-level Aid Character
• 4d6 for a 9th- to 12th-level Aid Character
• 5d6 for a 13th- to 16th-level Aid Character
• 6d6 for a 17th- to 20th-level Aid Character.

The results for each Aid Character depend upon the results of their roll.

20+: The Aid Character is a triumphant leader, inspiring other Pathfinders with their bravery and skill. They generate 2 successes for the mission. Even if the mission fails, they escape unscathed.

11–19: The Aid Character makes a substantial contribution to the mission, generating 1 success. If the mission fails, the Aid Character is injured. The Aid Character can recover from their injuries at the end of the scenario by spending 8 Prestige Points.

6–10: The Aid Character is trapped in a perilous situation and needs the assistance of other Pathfinders to escape. The Aid Character does not contribute to the mission’s success. If the mission fails, the Aid Character dies.

5 or less: The Aid Character’s luck runs out. Whether from an ambush, a devious trap, or a relentless onslaught of foes, the character meets their end. This Aid Character dies and does not contribute to the mission’s success.

Please note, participation is OPTIONAL.

The Scout Aid Mission has already been announced as successful for the House by Overseer Dennis.

However, if you don't contribute, you can't get the Scout Chronicle Boon for this mission. (FWIW, only Arnaut/Rudzik has earned it from this party so far)

The choice is yours.

@Marta, I'll ask in the GM thread if anyone has a spare healing aid token, and let you know the results.

@Yours is Mined - I am a bit unclear if Whisper and Omrax's Mount are still with us as they are on the battle map? I thought they had disappeared.

If you're referring to the storytelling accompanying Omrax's detect evil scan, that was purely flavor, Mighty Mage ;)

Who knows if it truly was Whisper or an Eagle Angel in disguise flying alongside the paladin? Mind you, Iomedae probably knows, but She ain't tellin' :D

Whisper and the Ghost Wolf are wholly under player control back in the 'real world' of the battle map.

I had a feeling it was creative storytelling but who knows. It is the last adventure so banishing familiars and mounts could be written into the story-line. It is possible. :)

Unless stated otherwise Whisper is always riding around in the familiar satchel.

An excellent question I don’t think the writers really anticipated. If it were something like a wall of fire, it would make sense for the “passengers” to not take any damage. 1. Although I described the aqueous orb as a 'snow globe' it's not. In the spell description it is described as a churning ball of water.

2. The spell description of wall of sound says it bursts with discordant noise when touched by an object or creature.

I think one can make a reasonable argument that the aqueous orb is an object. Doubt I'll hear any complaints! ;)

I am going to give Jack a little more time to post, before moving us on.

In the meantime, why don’t we conduct the Spell Casters’ Aid Mission concurrently here in the Discussion Thread

Eligible:

✩ Kije, played by Arnaut
✩ Milo Flamecursed, played by Hamish
✩ Slim Shady, played by Jack

To reiterate: this is an AID MISSION not an Aid Token roll.

So there is no option to supply heroic aid. It is one dice roll with the risk of death.

Participation is OPTIONAL.

However, if you don't contribute, you can't help the House succeed at the mission (failure has consequences …)

AND, you don’t qualify for the ✨Spellcaster Chronicle Boon for this mission.

Even if you are eligible but not participating, please let me know, as I am not permitted to report successes until the ENTIRE TABLE has chosen to accept or decline the mission.

You may have at it in the Discussion Thread now!

Why is my character Tessa not eligible for this task? It is always the Halflings that are overlooked. ;)

Sorry, Tessa!

I checked the portrait slide, instead of the official table.

She is certainly eligible to participate.

You know, halflings are eventually gonna get featured in a breakthrough novel -- maybe even a trilogy, with a standalone prequel!

Maybe then they'll get the respect they deserve :)

I'm in! Milo has a bad enough temper to want to blow something up. =)
Even if no one understands what he's talking about.

Is the inspire greatness still active, or is it something that is only in effect while the performance is going? Which would be pointless while we wait here for the oozes to come to us.
