Sigmar protects!

I've been quite lucky on these rolls, using fortune when needed.
That gives a rough guideline to find out where we had to roll vs corruption, and if we passed the test or not
Darkest Doomed
My Corruption count for Landolf is 4, though I haven't taken time to audit that number yet. I've been doing pretty good in using his Fortune points to hold off Corruption, but that last daemon got me pretty good.
It's a bit frustrating since we run across Corruption fairly frequently, but Landolf's careers get Willpower & Cool progression very late.
I've been trying to keep some experience around to purchase Cool if we get Downtime, but none seems to be coming very soon.

45xp+10 Xp left: 55xp
Spend 30 XP for Willpower+1, and 25 XP for +1 BS
And now that we have finished (probably!) running errands in the sewers.. I see that I have night vision.
Valghaz Ironhammer
55xp! Spending 45xp on +3 endurance (8 total). Because corruption is scary and that was one of the corruption rolls.

vis a vis dwarven burial, here is all that I could find:
"According to ancient lore, the earth gave birth to the Dwarf race. In death, their bodies are returned to her embrace while the dying Dwarf spirit journeys to the world of their ancestors. The priests of Gazul have special rites to perform before the journey can begin.
Dwarfs who die of old age sense that their time is approaching. A priest of Gazul is summoned and the dying dwarf gives the priest the possessions that are to accompany their owner to the tomb. Then, the heirs assemble to witness the dying Dwarf's bequests - like the reading of a will among humans, except that it takes place before death. Once the task is completed, the Dwarf spends the remainder of the time with friends and family.
When death has come, the priest returns to take the body to the Temple of Gazul, where it likes in state for four days. There, the priest invokes the protection of Gazul over the body to ensure the safe arrival of the spirit in the realm of the ancestors. The protection also prevents the body from being used for necromatic purposes. At the end of the four days, the clan's burial vault is opened and the body entombed. Once done, the priest of Gazul re-affixes the sealing rune to the vault to prevent any discretion until the next burial.
Not all deaths are so easy. Many Dwarfs perish on the field of battle. Priests of Gazul accompany the armies so that they can administer death-rites to the fallen. The slain Dwarfs are usually buried on the spot, as returning them all to their hold is usually impractical. Only the bodies of Kings, rune-smiths and clan elders are returned for burial." - Stone and Steel, pp. 10-11
The book doesn't go into what expatriate dwarfs do. I would assume that in communities with a substantial dwarven population that they would have their own burial site and priest of Gazul, and that for dwarfs who live in places without said accommodations they would treat a garden of Morr as being similar to a battlefield burial. But that is just my assumption, and the IC knowledge rolls are to get some GM input on this.

Aubster, your posts are such a joy to read. I’ll get something up soon, but really enjoyed that one.

Any chance that our generous GM would count disposing of Gotri's remains as completing a short term goal?

Wonderful! Have 60xp. Spending all 60 on +2 WP.
Now, for a quick check to see where I am.
----
Miner — Brass 4
WS / STR/ T / WP
Lvl 1 Skills: Cool, Endurance, Intuition, Lore (Local), Melee (Two-handed), Outdoor Survival, Perception, Swim
Lvl 2 Skills: Climb, Consume Alcohol, Evaluate, Melee (Basic), Secret Signs (Miner), Trade (Explosives)
Lvl 1 Talents: Rover, Strider (Rocky), Sturdy, Tenacious
Lvl 2 Talents: Night Vision, Strike Mighty Blow, Strong Back, Very Strong
Trappings: Davrich Lamp, Hand Weapon (Pick), Lamp Oil, Leather Jack
The rules say to advance from Level 2 you need +10 in 8 available skills, which can be those from either Level 1 or 2. You also need at least one Talent from your current level, so not the same one you learned at Level 1. Finally, you need +10 in all four stats available for advancement at Level 2
--------
Stats:
WS: +5
STR: +9
T: +5
WP: +10
Skills:
Melee 2 Handed: +10
Cool: +10
Trade Explosives: +9
Endurance: +8
Talents:
More than enough
-----
So I'm still pretty far away from finishing miner. Still need 150xp for +5 WS, 150xp for +5 T, +30xp for +1 Str, 45xp to get explosives and endurance to +10, and 300xp to get another 4 skills up to +10.
In total, that means I am 675xp away from finishing the career, and 775xp away from moving up.
Slowly but surely getting there! Also, with +10WP and +10 Cool, Valghaz is about as corruption resistant as he can possibly be right now.
Valghaz Ironhammer
Will post tomorrow if nobody else does. Giving the chance to get in a word here.

Sounds good. You all have a few different ways to go that’ll lead to interesting situations. The good news is that there are no bad choices yet. You all basically get to be detectives for a bit.

Becoming corruption resistant is a really good idea for what’s coming down the tracks.

"Becoming corruption resistant is a really good idea for what’s coming down the tracks."
Having just watched "death of hope" (for the first time) last night, this sentence fills me with even more dread.

I want to follow up with this housekeeper Gertie about when Richter fell ill and whether she thinks he could have sent the note to us. Beyond that, I think our current leads are something like:
* Investigate the Steinhägers - it sounds to me like they are busy worhsipping Chaos in the sewers, or something similar
* Get help from the Sigmarites in cleansing the Chaos temple in the sewers
Am I missing something? The new prophecy's 'rich man' could easily be the Steinhägers, although I don't trust myself to guess at the meaning of those things until they're blindingly obvious and no longer useful.
I think my vote is for getting help before we go further. If we go to investigate the Steinhägers without some sort of official sanction we could get ourselves in deep trouble quickly.
Valghaz Ironhammer
That sounds right. While IC Valghaz does not trust the Sigmarites, OOC I think that it is the right way to go. As indicated earlier, Valghaz will go along with the plan.
Darkest Doomed
I think my system mastery in Warhammer games is failing me here. I'd have ideas of what to try if this was Pathfinder, for instance. Are we supposed to have a clue about what we should do here? I don't know what this is or what Lore skills might be able to help tell us more.
At present, my only idea is to run away. Maybe burn it with fire? I don't think we've hit it with a bludgeoning weapon, but I don't know if Warhammer mechanics care about such distictions.
I could start hunting through the list of monster attributes for a clue, but I'll hold off doing that for now.
Valghaz Ironhammer
I think, that IC, all we know is that we've slashed and stabbed it to no discernable effect. The rationale course of action, at least in my mind, is to run like hell. :P
Darkest Doomed
I guess we have a whole litter of Witch Hunters with us that ought to know how to handle random monstrosities. Since we just acted they are probably before us in the semi-initiative we're in, so maybe we'll get some clues from them.
Running does sound like a good plan though.
Valghaz Ironhammer
TBH not quite sure how to proceed, IC or OOC. Will wait for that politics result...
Darkest Doomed
GM: can we get confirmation on the in-game calendar? Specifically, how long until Landolf's appointment with the Haagen family & how long until our ship leaves?
Aubster

Some thoughts, not really spoilers as trying to tie some things together.
You now have a name that fits with the initials on the fancy handkerchief you found in the temple. You also know of discord in the family between Handkerchief Name and his brother.
You know that the Teugen family has seen an amazing resurgence in their fortune since Johannes take over.
You know that there is a dark cult at work in the city and you know the bounty hunter was chasing a cult called the Ordo Septenarius.
You know the merchant families all have 3 locations they control, their homes, their warehouses and their offices.
You’ve got a lot of prophetic warnings that something bad is going to happen. Maybe there’s some clues in the warnings.
You have support of the Witch-Hunter Captain to get you into places you normally wouldn’t be able to get into.
There are more temples than Sigmar in town that may have information.

I've got to find a way to train Valghaz in charm. I think that it would fit his character quite well...anyone know how I can do this mechanically?
Darkest Doomed
Spend double XP on it (not recommended), get into a career that gives Charm as a skill or use a Downtime Endeavour to allow normal cost access (for a fee).
Edit: Duellist would get you Charm access by tier II. You were talking about becoming a Duellust earlier, so I mention it.
Second Edit: Duellist doesn't give Fellowshio access or much in the way of social-related talents. It is a good example of a career that could get you out of the gutter with Charm but wouldn't allow you to become actually good at it without other investment. That might be acceptable for Valghaz, if he's fine with relying on others to be the party face.

How would Valghaz feel about becoming a bounty hunter? They have Charm (and other Fellowship skills) available at Tier 1...and Valghaz is kind of a bounty hunter already chasing after Andreas the fake Cult of Verena investigator for his own revenge and for the reward that the Cannon Ball Express has offered for his capture.
Valghaz Ironhammer
That's...a pretty good idea, on a bounty hunter. And I suppose that it is an honorable trade, given that it is the equivalent of a reckoner (suppose who settles grudges for coin). I think that once he has gotten a few 'bounties' under his belt, that would be a very flavorful profession to get into!
And thanks DD for the suggestions. I'll look into the downtime rules some more.

Time flies...our campaign is a year old this month. Counting Gameplay and Discussion posts, the group has made over 3000 posts in the last year!
In celebration, you all can ask for a boon for your characters. I’ll leave it up to you to come up with something. Just make it something that’s not going to unbalance the game, so no Vorpal Blades or flying horses :)

There are a lot of things that Landolf could want, but the only one that seems of pressing importance would be Corruption. It's looking like this campaign isn't going to stop introducing us to corrupting influences, and neither of Landolf's careers will help him out in that department anytime soon. Cool is available earliest at Seaman III and Willpower at Noble IV. Landolf has a lot of Fortune, but rerolls only go so far when his target number is 30 for Cool and 40 for Endurance.
Even more important than dealing with his existing Corruption is improving his ability to deal with new threats. If Downtime becomes available, that would just be a matter of spending Endeavours to train outside of his careers at normal rate. If Downtime just can't fit into the story, I was thinking that he'd have to start looking at other careers to make up the gap. The distance to any in-career support is just too far away.
Acknowledging that I passed up one opportunity earlier, a way to do something about his existing Corruption score would be nice too.
Adelaida Lehner
I'll think of something for Adelaida. Either a piece of equipment for her trappings or a few lessons in reading/writing to reach her personal ambition.
As far as future careers are spoken of... I was thinking maybe about becoming a witch hunter. But maybe they are better as NPC? And if one of us starts to fail under the Corruption of Chaos, it could be difficult to keep the Black THorns together, even if that could make great RP too.
Darkest Doomed
Earlier I would've said we should stop hating Witch Hunters before we become one, but this Bogenhafen bunch is leaving a better impression than the ones in Ubersreik.
I get squeamish about their Lore (Torture) skill every time I look at that career.

How about either:
1) cutting your corruption in half;Or
2) being able to split a total of 15 points of skill between Cool and Endurance, allocated as you want

I think gaining the Read/Write talent as a boon from Sigmar is an excellent choice.
Picking Witch-Hunter as a new career could be interesting to role-play. Adelaida seems like she already since things as black or white with not a lot of grey so Witch-Hunter would be a natural extension of that world view. The issue is that Witch-Hunters are part of a well defined hierarchy so Adelaida would report to another higher rank Witch-Hunter and be expected to follow orders from her superior which could conflict with what the Black Thorns desire.
Valghaz Ironhammer
Talked it through with Sir Aubster. Getting a new career! Quite excited to see where this goes. :D

And hard choice for Landolf. Can see the merits on both choices.
Valghaz Ironhammer
Hate to say it, but Markus hasn't posted since August. Perhaps it is time to recruit another? Now would be a good time, given that we just made the Witch Hunter connection. So having someone be given over to us to work with us / watch us would make sense. Plus, having our wizard slink off (I'd hate to think disappear!) now that Witch Hunters are around would also make sense for the story.
