Niksi focuses her mental powers on the closest quasit, hoping to bring it down quickly before it goes invisible again.
Daze on Red (or Blue if Red is down already). 4 psychic damage with a basic will save to halve damage. It's also stunned 1 on a crit fail
She then continues reciting her rhymes.

Red was down for Prism's turn, so I'll take the liberty of assuming she moves, Strikes, and casts Shield.

Mukluk and Prism finish off the last quasit!
The trident and shield leaning against the door are similar to those you've found from other retainers here. The shield bears the same defaced Gozren icons you've come to recognize. Behind the door is a pantry, containing large bins to hold vegetables and fruit, and racks for all sorts of dry goods, such as salt, farro, and spices. The supply of fresh foods is starting to run low, but there’s still sufficient goods to feed the remaining hermits simple rations for weeks.
If anyone wants, you can have a snack while people tend to wounds.

Rova sighs as she manages to deal with the worst of her wounds, a full belly certainly helping.
"It's strange that everyone here converted, right?" she asks the others through a full mouth, her eyes watering a little at the spices (growing up, they didn't usually have the time or money for such cooking). "I mean, we always tried to get people to convert and usually they just sicced the Pharasmins on us or accused us of being crazy! (Won't they be surprised... but I bet they still won't apologize, even if they have time to.) We were always happy if just one person realized that Groetus is trying to warn them."
I was going to say, on to the strange locked door now to try the key, but maybe we should just deal with the other 2 or 3 rooms outside that first?

Niksi Drugova |

Niksi collects the spices she plans on using into one place as she prepares to start cooking. "You are a very earnest person, Rova. You would tell people what you are asking of them openly and honestly. I do not think these demons asked. Whether it came from domination, more insidious manipulation, or both, I do not think everyone understood what was happening until it was too late."

Mukluk Muletender |

Mukluk takes his time in healing up others, switching his time between fruiting his face, and fixing femurs. His hands combine sweet fruit juices, spices, and, well, blood. But he's doing his best and that's what matters.
"Now stick out your tongue, Rova, lemme see if it's coated...not sure them whosits ain't diseasin'," Mukluk grabs Rova's tongue and give is a good looking as he does his medicinin'. He doesn't mind that his thumb and forefinger might still be coated with a bit of Niksi's more flavorful spices. It's his job to fix wounds, not tend to tastebuds.
"You know," Mukluk says while sticking his finger in Rova's mouth to check for loose teeth. "I didn't like doing this back when I was in the gladiator ring, and I'm not sure I like it now. Now, does that tooth feel loose to you?" Mukluk gives it a yank.
"Groetus? Pharasma? They're mostly the same, right? I dunno. I don't get too caught up in them godly matters...just leads to fightin'. And I would avoid that if I could. You know?"

Rova Moonbright |
1 person marked this as a favorite. |

"What? -- OW! -- No they're not -- OW! stop it! -- not the same at -- grr -- all! Groetus is -- OK, stop, I can do it! -- a good god, who's trying to warn everyone that the End Times are coming, so they can make preparations!
Pharasmra's totally -- I mean it, Mukluk, I can do it myself! -- different. She's the god of death, so she wants everyone to die because that gives her more power. That's why her followers are so awful. They find a group of Groetans and just attack us! Usually with no warning and for no reason at all! Sure, sometimes there are some people who die in ceremonies to help keep everyone safe, but you have to make sacrifices sometimes."
Rova nods, satisfied that she's explained the difference (though she hopes the dwarf hears and understands her), and that she's persuaded him to let her treat her own injuries, since that hurts a lot less.

Corkas 'Prism' Warfiz |

"Do you think we are slowly being corrupted as well Niksi?" Likethem.."[/b] She points to all of the once good people now laying on the ground with defaced holy symbols and demon worshippers. "Whatcould..havemade..them doit"
Prism keeps deep in her thoughts as she wanders with the others back to the big door. Seeing they are still getting looked over for infectious diseases Prism takes a look in some of the smaller rooms to the south.

GM Kate |

Prism examines a few rooms. She finds bedrooms much grander than the bedrooms she previously explored. Each room has a large and very comfortable canopied bed, an armoire for clothes storage, a full-length mirror, and light provided by fist‑sized glowing orbs mounted in ornate wall sconces. A folding screen in each room conceals a metal bathtub. In the two northern guest rooms, the bedclothes are neatly folded and tucked away in the armoire. Only the southern guest room shows evidence of recent habitation; its bed is made and its bathtub is filled with lukewarm water.

Rova Moonbright |

Rova looks through the final guest room, trying to see if there's any sign that Nemmia came back.

Mukluk’s head whips toward Prism as he helps inspect the guest room, trying to parse what the gnomish gnome might have gnomed.
”What did you say? ‘Butt should half glaze Lem blew it?’ What does that even mean? And who is Lem? Does he play flute?” Mukluk asks, trying to stay focused but for the distractions.

Everyone gathers in front of the door. The key works!
Beyond the door is a large and resplendent shrine to Gozreh, the Wind and the Waves. The floor, which bears a mosaic depicting Gozreh’s battle against Rovagug in the defense of all creation, is broken by two narrow moats, one filled with churning water and the other with shrieking winds. Four slender bridges cross these moats, which appear bottomless. At the far end of the chamber is a raised dais with an altar in front of two massive statues. One depicts a bearded storm elemental holding aloft a bolt of lightning; the other is a stern woman wearing clothing of sea foam and wearing an ornate coral crown.
One priest with a defaced holy symbol is shouting at another priest whose holy symbol is uncorrupted.
"But don't you see, Harlock? This is the only way to save the land! Gozreh must approve or they wouldn't have sent the demons here in the first place. Join us, Harlock! Join the way of the future!"
The man, badly injured, whispers "Never."
A woman stand nearby holding metal leashes to two giant monitor lizards infused with demonic power. The lizards have shimmering, nacreous green skin. Acid drips from the lizards’ jaws, dissolving small holes in the stone floor. She sees the door open first.

Niksi supports her allies with an incredibly inspiring song!
Ha ha, this is totally the boss music starting up!
Reflex Save: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (14) + 9 = 23 1 damage as well!
Niksi deftly slides out of the way of the worst of the fire, only slightly singing her arm and a bit of her tailcoat. She responds with a mental attack against the offending mephit, as well as a crack of her whip.

Gotcha, Prism! Damage adjusted.
And correct, Rova! Round down for 1 point of damage.
Prism stares down the woman with the trident and suddenly ducks under her legs, appearing on the other side! The woman is so befuddled by the movement that Prism easily feints for a perfect stab! Nicely done!
Rova shoots at the nearest combatant, and the fire hisses as the arrow hits it.
Will save: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (20) + 7 = 27
Niksi attempts to Daze it, as the awesome music rings throughout the room. Nice choice! Unfortunately, the fire mephit stands firm.
Mukluk moves into flank and hits Enkrisha once!
Threndel commands the mephit to continue attacking. It flies next to Rova, landing in front of her, and bites her with a burning jaw!

GM Kate |

Prism moves in and hits twice with the flank! The woman crumples to the ground!
Rova takes out the fire mephit with a single hit, then focuses her attention on Threndel!
Niksi turns her attention to the caster on the platform!

That was a little bit of a mean trick from me, since I redirected the Daze to the caster as the only target left, but he had a reaction against it. If Niksi would have done something else, we can retcon.
Mukluk, meanwhile, moves in and strikes, hitting once! The damage does not all go through.

GM Kate |

I forgot a thing! He was in range of Mukluk when he cast a spell last turn, so Mukluk should have had an AoO.
Gouger, AoO: 1d20 + 11 + 1 ⇒ (9) + 11 + 1 = 21 to hit
P: 1d6 + 4 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 4 + 1 = 6 damage
Prism feints the caster, but can't quite connect with him with her sickle.
Mukluk pounds on the man, hitting three times.
Niksi too struggles to connect.
Rova shouts, but her voice is lost over the roar of the moats. Her arrows go similarly awry.
Desperate, the man draws a trident, which provokes from Mukluk, and tries to stab Prism.
Gouger, AoO: 1d20 + 11 + 1 ⇒ (15) + 11 + 1 = 27 to hit
P: 2d10 + 8 + 2 + 1d10 ⇒ (6, 3) + 8 + 2 + (9) = 28 damage
With Niksi's inspiration, this final attack takes the man down, and he collapses on the altar.
Harlock rises to his feet.
"Hello, my new friends. Who do I have to thank for the rescue?"

Mukluk Muletender |

Mukluk is never better than when GM Kate is rolling the dice.
"Grunt," Mukluk doesn't answer the priest, instead he was wishing he didn't have to fight at all here. Now he was again, broken and bleeding.
Sigh. I ain't asking for any of this. But its coming at me anyway.
He bends down to clean off his weapons on the dead priest's robes. He's not ready to speak yet.

Niksi Drugova |

Niksi pats Mukluk on the shoulder, a knowing look in her eye. All of this madness has been hardest on him, and not just physically.
She bows with an extravagent twirl of her hat. "I am Niksi--pronounced like the fey, spelled differently--Drugova. You can leave out that long middle name as long as you do not forget it." She replaces her hat and adjusts it. "Before we carry on with explanations too long, I am afraid I must bother you with some dreadfully unfun logistical questions. First, you would not happen to have any healing abilities, would you? And second, are there any more of them we will need to keep watch for sneaking up on us?"

Rova Moonbright |

"I'm Rova," the halfling adds, picking up her filcher's fork.
"And why are there demon worshipers here too? I didn't think you Gozrans spent a lot of time with demons? Is it because of this Nemmia?" The questions are almost bubbling out of her, though she tries not to overwhelm Harlock. She knows that's only effective in some cases, but most start using the crazy epithet and then run away. "Also, the mayor asked us to come find you, so I guess he's responsible. We were mostly trying to find out who attacked our circus, and why."

Mukluk Muletender |

”Mukluk,” Mukluk grunts, either offering his name or his favorite footwear (thought that was not the question).
Still bleeding, he’s okay with not answering the man’s questions until he doesn’t die from blood loss. He’ll grab the healer’s kit and get to work.
