Edwin decided to take the opertunity to explore the complex with his arcane eye. Afterwards he related what her had found,

"I saw a calendar in a manager's office. There's several events going on here this week: after the cultists tonight, there's a a metallurgical conference, a brewer's guild meeting and a primitive art exhibition based on local archeology later in the week. I doubt the building management cares about Nylarthotep; I think gold is what they worship.

"Mr Teller is hanging out with the priestess in a small conference room in the north west corner of the building. He's supposed to be Red the assassin's love interest but he's flirting with the priestess. She's playing hard to get, but I think she's interested. I wonder what Red would think about that."

Sense Motive, Perceive Cues: 1d20 + 5 + 5 ⇒ (20) + 5 + 5 = 30

He went on to describe the overall layout of the building.

Zendara chuckles

Getting her to kill them for us... I love that idea, but I am not sure we have the time to find her, inform her, and they might talk her out of it anyway... too much left to chance. Probably we have to take care of it ourselves.

She waits to see if anyone will argue, or has a safer idea, but if not, she starts towards the northwest conference room.

Can y'all please place yourselves on the map while you plan your next move? What happens next will depend a little on where you choose to go.

Since we have the overall layout of the building, do we know about that secret door (assuming the $ indicates it is secret)? Do we know if we can get into the meeting room from above? Would love those answers before I decide, but right now I am leaning on going back down the way we came and finding them from the lower level.

Palace of Birdsong| Shards of Oberon map | War for the crown maps

Oh I missed your post, sorry. Yes you can figure out there must be a secret door there. The meeting room has a normal ceiling height. In theory you could come in though the windows but that'd likely attract attention from passers by.

Zendara heads downstairs, intending to slip backstage again, then use the secret door to get to the conference room in question.

I put arrows on the map indicating the approximate direction in case it isn't clear from what I said. Hopefully we can get them there, and prevent them escaping.

Palace of Birdsong| Shards of Oberon map | War for the crown maps

Zendara leads the way and the party manages to sneak into another empty conference room to the south of the one where Mr Teller and the priestess where chatting. The door was closed but you could hear their muffled voices through it.

Perception DC 20:
Listening carefully at the door you get to overhear some of their conversation. A male voice, presumably Mr Teller's asks, "Seems to me you'll have this town sown up within the week. What's your next target?"

A languid female voice replies, "You know I can't talk about operations Darling. Oh! Lower, that's good, Yes. There! That's the spot."

"Dont give me that S#*% Delores, it's me! How long have we known each other? You're never gonna be satisfied with this dump of a town, nah you've got a plan. One those stuffy g@$^ never saw coming!"

"Damn straight! Ohhh that's good yes, more of that! Yeah I'm going to be rich, think about the resources this island has..."

Mr Teller grunted, "Mmm Hmmm. So you knock over the mines next, and export the gold and the diamonds. That's nice, but since when did you care about money? Oh Oh I see it now. You don't care about the cash, this is to pay officials to look the other way isn't it. Yeh I see it now, you're after the merchant league from the inside."

"Ohh. Uh, MMM. I can neither confirm nor deny that you've hit the right spot."

Teller chuckled, "Here's the thing I don't get, why did you send Red after those stones and that researcher. They're just a bunch of dumb whistling rocks."

"MMmm. Uuh, yeah well you always where an idiot Teller. I told you about it before, no a bit higher. Yeah, that's it. Yeah, oh yeh, just there! Those dumb rocks are the whole damn reason we're here, in this backwater cesspit. No they ain't markers for buried treasure, no gold or diamonds. No they're much more valuable than that to the master's enemies, they're dangerous in ways you don't need to know about. Now carry on doing that and quit your yammering!"

Edwin cast a spell, raising a magical shield, then crept up to the door and listened.

Casting Shield on himself.

Perception, Perceive Cues: 1d20 + 13 + 5 ⇒ (5) + 13 + 5 = 23

He whispered to his companions, "It sounds like Mr Teller is giving the Priestess a massage. She's planning on taking over the mines and getting the gold and diamonds."

Zendara listens as well

Perception: 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (12) + 15 = 27

She nods at Edwin's statement and then adds

Yeah, but the real goal is what Andrea Meedes was studying... the standing stones dedicated to Elodin. And this woman is the one that ordered her killed.

Ready? she asks everyone.

If everyone is ready, Zendara checks the door. If it is unlocked, she opens it a crack as silently as possible, enough to accommodate her bronze griffon figurine, pushes it through, and then speaks the command word, mentally asking it to prevent their quarry from escaping through the other door.

Then she opens the door all the way for the rest of the party and starts shooting.

Assuming we need initiative at this point, and probably everyone else gets a round of preparation in the time that Edwin took to cast a spell and I was opening the door and activating the Griffon, but of course defer to the DM on exact timing, etc.

Palace of Birdsong| Shards of Oberon map | War for the crown maps

I assume everyone's ready, it's been 2 days.

Initiative rolls:
Edwin: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (19) + 5 = 24
Xindyra: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (7) + 6 = 13
Yukarii: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (18) + 2 = 20
Zendara: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (6) + 3 = 9
Mr Teller: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (17) + 3 = 20
Priestess: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (17) + 2 = 19

On the count of three, the party bursts into the conference room. On the far side, Mr Teller was giving the priestess a rather vigorous and hardly platonic massage.

Mr Teller snatched his greatsword sword up and snarled as he turned to face you, "Oh look what the cat dragged in, this will be fun."

The priestess by contrast smiled evilly, remarking to Mr Teller "Nyarlathotep be praised! My feast has arrived!"

Kn: Religion DC 20:
Now you've had a better look at her, there's something very off putting about the priestess. Her skin color is far too pale, and her huge eyes are the color of night. You think she's an exotic type of Vampire called a [url=https://www.d20pfsrd.com/bestiary/monster-listings/templates/vetala-vampire-cr-2]Vetala[/url[ that feeds on minds!

That is the bronze griffon that I activated and instructed to keep them from escaping, as detailed in my last post.

Palace of Birdsong| Shards of Oberon map | War for the crown maps

Oh I'd forgotten all about Zendara having a Bronze Griffon figurine. Yes that makes sense now! Zendara you can use that on your turn. According to the item description the stats of the griffon should be this. I very much doubt they're expecting this...

Bronze Griffon:
When animated, a bronze griffon acts in all ways like a normal griffon under the command of its possessor. The item can be used twice per week for up to 6 hours per use. When 6 hours have passed or when the command word is spoken, the bronze griffon once again becomes a tiny statuette.; CL 11th; Craft Wondrous Item, animate objects.

Edwin moves into the room and with a word of power he's surrounded by a quartet of doubles!

If the griffon isn't summoned yet, Edwin will start by activating Sudden Speed as a Swift Action, and move around to the priestess (adjusted token on map).I mistook the griffon as an enemy that needed to be countered.

Since I said that the griffon was the first thing I was doing, shouldn't we at least get a roll to see if I could open the door a crack and get that in first before they noticed? They were quite distracted after all. The goal was that the Griffon would surprise them and then they would already be distracted when we opened the door all the way to get in.

If not, that is fine, but I didn't open the door all the way until I had already slid the statue through the door into the room, and the griffon doesn't need summoning. It is just a command word, so it seems kind of pointless to use my prep round on that if it can't already be there. If that is the case, then can I retroactively cast invisibility instead?

Palace of Birdsong| Shards of Oberon map | War for the crown maps

Yeah OK they probably should make perception checks, since they where quite distracted xD

-5 circumstance bonus because you know...
Priestess Perception: 1d20 + 16 - 5 ⇒ (14) + 16 - 5 = 25
Mr Teller Perception: 1d20 + 6 - 5 ⇒ (14) + 6 - 5 = 15

OK looks like they noticed. You can absolutely cast invisibility the round before and also use the command word on this round if you like or do something else if not!

Hmm looks like Yukarii is distracted, guess I'll have to bot. I'll have to remember how her character works... Hmm she has mirror image too.

Yukarii decides Edwin's approach is the right idea and suddenly with a world of power there's multiple Yukariis!

Technically Yukarii isn't even in there since I'd had her stay outside when she realized sneaking was involved and no one came for her. THat being said I'll improvise so she is there.

Yukarii had waited outside long enough, called Yukaari out and hid her within her own form as she went in after the others. When she heard the sound of fighting she was glad she had. She cast her mirror images and then realized that Edwin was silenced so she decided to do something about that.

Zendara thinks through different spells she could cast, like silence or gravity bow, but the first would get in the way of her friends and the second... well, they had to work quickly in case someone was hearing all of this and calling the guards, and she didn't want to waste any more time.

As the first arrow leaves her bow, headed for Mr. Teller, Zendara, still singing, becomes visible to all.

Having taken Mr Teller's measure, Xindyra notes several flaws in Mr Teller's swordwork. He relies too much on brute force and she feinted which he tried to parry leaving him open for a vicious jab to the kidneys.

"OOF! Ya got me ye rapscallion!" he grunted.

Edwin aimed a powerful blow at the man, but he managed just to parry the blow.

Appearing from nowhere, Zendara's arrows where too numerous and she was too close for him to realistically dodge, although his unpredictable movement meant only two hit. Still he was left with several half inch thick arrows jutting out of his chest.

Hey, I think the damage log might be off by one. If one of the attacks missed it had to be the 25, right? So the 28 and the 30 add up to 26 damage rather than 25. No big, but I don't want him hanging on by a thread and killing one of us. :)

Edwin apparently missed with a 26, FWIW, although I guess that was parried.

Lets see. He's got AC 27 so last round Edwin missed, Xindrya hit. Zendara hit twice (25 dmg total). I think I got that correct?

"Darling! It's been fun dancing, but now it's time for you to shuffle off this mortal coil." grunted Mr Teller as he unleashed a blindly fast sequence of moves and slices. Unfortunately he very much got the worst of this exchange with Xindrya parrying his first blow and scoring another nasty touch on the riposte. There was still fight lift in him but Mr Teller's wounds where adding up and there was blood everywhere.

Hands moving like a blur, Zendara sends a trio of arrows. In her haste to finish the man off, two missed, but she managed to hit his left shoulder although the arrow went through.

Edwin tried his luck, sending what would have been a thunderous stroke in his direction, but Mr teller managed to turn the ratfolk's blade aside.

Realized that with many shot, rapid shot, and a BAB that allows an extra attack, I should have been doing 4 attacks, not 3, even though technically manyshot is two arrows at once. Anyway, that's why there is another one in there. Took out the favored enemy bonus for humans because of the "vampire cleric" line. We'll see if I can hit her with the rapid shot penalties. If not, might have to slow down and aim carefully. :)

The gryphon can fest on his heart. Pretty sure there's no easy way to come back from that.

Xindra moves in to attack the cleric, but she steps aside.

Zendara's arms blur and soon a trio of feathered arrows jut out from the woman's torso. Weirdly though she doesn't even flinch, it's like she doesn't feel the pain.

Edwin's blade crackled with power and when it struck her, a dark pulse of radiance burst out enhancing the damage done and leaving a deep deep cut in her side.

What would Yukarii do? I'm not sure really, but she can cast Dispel Magic a number of times and yes the priestess is buffed.

Once more Yukarii chanted words of nullification and the area around the priestess was momentarily filled with static. But nothing seemed to happen beyond that.
