@Bauble, do you like your leaves? :)
Can he see himself while he is invisible? Once he is visible I was planning on RP with it a bit. How long does it last?

24 hours; I forgot you were invisible.

I love rods of wonder. I remember shooting butterflies at a powerful dao monk in AD&D, if I remember correctly. He mashed me afterwards!

Sorry for the absence; I've been straddling two different computers the past few days, the second of which is new and doesn't have my enormous Favorites roster on it.

Having masqueraded as a goblin before, Valrar vaguely gets where Bauble is coming from. Still, he watches with interest and a bit of concern.
Does this mean You Be Goblin, Valrar? If so, what's your story there?
The character of mine I happened to give that Chronicle to spent some time among Goblins as part of his character-defining ordeal smuggling himself to freedom out of Razmiran.
Valrar Altimari II
|
Valrar hasn't personally received any such Chronicles. But he has taken two of my characters who eventually did as proteges or new recruits. Also, what with his increasing depravity and Lamashtu-ness at later levels, he's often appeared as a goblin during missions for smaller size and darkvision (he takes the form of many other races depending on the situation, usually human or dwarf out of combat).

5 of the damage on Bauble was non-lethal and basically gets healed for free. Bauble was at 58|111, with 5 of that nonlethal. So the 50 points of healing actually gave 55 points which puts him at max.

This reminds me to remind you you've still got an Improved Planar Infusion, so bear that and all that it implies in mind!
Valrar Altimari II

Oh yeah, I forgot about that! Adding it to my conditions list now. That'll be quite interesting, and the bonuses are all very good for me, thanks.

[ooc]Will Bauble have to use a round to cast fly? I don't suppose anyone has a mass fly prepared? Or, I suppose, he could ride Kirrah? I'm sure the lion wouldn't mind! Then again I'm not sure Kirrah has fly active either.
Dang flying things with reach!
Is a knowledge planes roll in order here? I'd like to find out what is immune/resistant to fire or electricity (or cold or acid, Bauble is flexible enough with Elemental Touch handy).
| GMAndrewW |
You can make a knowledge planes check. Riding Kirrah will allow you to reach the demon but I will only allow one person to ride him at a time. You will need to cast fly, it is not currently active. Kirrah does have air walk as does Fendahl. I doubt anyone has mass fly as its a level 7 wizad spell.
If you want to ride Kirrah then it requires either a move action or a DC20 ride check to do it as a free. you must have at least a move action available before making the check in case you fail. It will also require Fendahls agreement.
Fendahl Silvermane
|
Fendahl will agree as he not currently riding Kirrah.
Keep in mind that Kirrah has atavism active so she is less compliant to handle animal commands but does have more HP and AC

Bauble, do you have any kind of morale bonus to saving throws, presently? I'm thinking of shifting your ward of the seasons to Autumn before we enter the portal. How does that sound?
DM, I've lost track; how long has it been since the last fight? More than 13 minutes?
Bauble
|
All Bauble has is a cloak, so no morale bonus.
Fendahl Silvermane
|
How are we looking here?
Unless something changes for the better (or a boon or two help...I didn't have any for Fendahl) It Looks like most folks are not going to be acting for awhile. So now its really up to Rogar and Valrar to shine (once Kirrah drops).
Alie Saechel
|
Yep, no boon help from Alie either. We are in a mess of trouble with this one, looks like. 8 rounds of daze is pretty darn tough.
Valrar Altimari II
|
Yeah, things are looking grim. Valrar is a highly capable fighter who can probably save against problematic spells. But I need to spend my next turn dismissing the Gaseous Form, and I'm low on panache until I get some crits in.
Bauble
|
Well, Bauble is no loss. He has been well and truly hosed this adventure and my only hope is that he either survives or has a good death.
| GMAndrewW |
Not necessarily, Kirrah is holding on, Valrar is about to enter the battle and can probably go toe to toe for a while. It certainly doesnt look great but it is far from a certainty that you are doomed. Several of you got very unlucky on the save, missing the DC by only a small margin and the duration was very unfortunate.
Bauble
|
Dang, Valrar. You got guts. I probably would have stepped back and drank that potion so that thing would not get a full attack. Unless he is going to get a full attack anyway.
Fendahl Silvermane
|
It is a tough call either way. Stalling to avoid full attacks or trying to stay in close to avoid AOO. :(
Valrar Altimari II
|
That might've been a smarter idea, I just didn't think of it. Wouldn't have negatively impacted me, and I could've tumbled closer on my next turn like I planned. Hopefully this doesn't get me and subsequently at least several other people killed Ah well.
Fendahl Silvermane
|
The Azata was dispelled/dispatched a couple rounds ago, correct? I may have a cached image on my map. Or was that something else?
Also, I was not sure if Kirrah, being dead, would revert to normal size?
Fendahl Silvermane
|
Thanks! :)
Hey, just so I am not supposed to post an action...is the entire party out of commission for the last of the 8 rounds of daze overlapping with the first of the 2 rounds of daze? Or do we go?
In other other words, other than the missing saves, we just wait for the big bad to go before some of us can act now that Valrar is dazed (or no?)
Bauble
|
Did he roll the dazzling dice? Didn't notice. In any case we will each be dazed for the max of the rounds form the new display and the remaining rounds from the old display.
| GMAndrewW |
Thanks! :)

Round 9 is the last round of the original daze. I will bold people when they can act.

As we are in the abyss, I don’t know where we could run to be honest. Do we have a way to get out?

Can we head back to the portal?
Valrar Altimari II

That'd take some doing, and then we'd need to get back to our main exit. Possibly with this big boy chasing us. I'm all for staying to fight, but I'm also dead, so I'll defer.
Vladek Odradek
|
Good grief! Pulled that out in a clutch!
For my own part, could you please clarify my status vis-a-vis hit points/effects of getting my Headband ripped off (especially in light of that retcon at the end there)?
Bauble
|
This is definitely a difficult and dangerous encounter. The steal maneuver is unfortunately something it can do for free on any claw attack. The dazing lights effect is not at will, it is only 3/day. I used it once early on and then held off until things looked dire for it. You are fortunate no-one good aligned was hitting it as it has continual unholy aura as well. I should point out that there are spells that allow you to suppress the will penalty from being in the abyss.
The creature is CR17/Mythic7. The scenario does give you some benefits, the temporary HP, the Mythic DR so you can potentially bypass its DR and the additional damage which does reduce the encounter CR to 16 which is still very difficult.
Reading back over things I think that I probably should not have applied its DR to the automatic insect damage as it is untyped and comes from Deskari himself. Applying that we have a little bit of a retcon at the start of round 9!
First of all, thank you for having mercy.
What spell is it that allows you to negate the effects of the abyss? I thought we looked for one and could not find one, or at least not one we had access to.
Bauble is at a profound disadvantage in this scenario.
#1) No offense: His spells are mostly useless. Magus tend to focus on adding damage to weapon attacks which are normally elemental. Everything is either registrant or immune to elemental damage.
#2) No defense: He relies on mirror image or improved invisibility to protect himself since his AC it too low for a fighter but it seems that all of the higher powered creatures can see through them.
#3) No offense at all: He is saddled with a weapon he cannot use, at least effectively, so he is a fighter that cannot attack.
#4) More defenselessness: And now his ST is trashed. -4 to will was bad enough, but an additional -4 to all ST means that he is pretty much spell meat. Not that it matters since even if he could act, it is pointless.
But at least he is not dead (yet)!
Basically I feel that Bauble's purpose at this point is comic relief.
Alie Saechel

If we have a second to prep before our next fight, I can cast Talisman of Reprieve on the group, which will help with those penalties somewhat.
Bauble
|
That would be great. Can you extend it too so it will last a long time?
@Fendahl
You wouldn't happen to have an extra barkskin available for Valrar? Heroism is another good spell to spread around.
Bauble
|
@Bauble, you realise that your cloak is just lying on the ground and you can recover it?
WHAT! Heck, no, I did not realize that. I was sure you meant that he rended it to pieces and that it was a lost item. Dang. That changes a lot. If we can manage to strip the Black Stinker from his possession, then that would make a HUGE difference.
Vladek Odradek
|
You can raise Kirrah by and by, can't you, Fendahl? There's a special spell just for that you should be able to cast.
Also, I've got remove curse prepared (I almost always do, especially since I've got a special Faction Boon that makes me better at both giving and receiving it); would it work to wrench it away from Bauble?
Fendahl Silvermane
|
Fendahl would be able to cast raise dead, but not until tomorrow. It also requires diamond dust (1000gp) whereas waiting 24hrs and getting Kirrah 2.0 is free (but neither will help us in the remaining fights today). Fendahl will honor her sacrifice and let her rest.
Out of curiosity, could a summoned creature...like, say a dire tiger, drink of the blood before going through to the final fight? Just asking for no reason... :)
