Andakos Viden |

Andakos groans in frustration; how did that spear thrust miss? In any case, the derro is too close now, so he lets go of the spear with his gauntleted hand and aims the spikes at the derro's face.
spiked gauntlet: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (16) + 6 = 22

Golloriel Eglen |

They need Andakos to stay in the fight. Golloriel channels energy again.

Apoc Golem |

1d20 + 12 ⇒ (16) + 12 = 28
1d20 + 6 ⇒ (5) + 6 = 11
Vreeg takes the blow from the gauntlet in stride, then reaches out to touch Andakos on the chest with the wand. Necrotic energy pours into the tiefling, and he feels his muscles become stiff, then completely rigid.
Andakos Fort: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (8) + 2 = 10
Andakos can no longer move. His eyes dart about frantically and he can still breathe, but even his very vocal cords are frozen. He is paralyzed.
If only that was all.
Immediately, Andakos' body begins exuding an almost palpable stench, a combination of sulfur and rotten meat so overwhelmingly potent that everyone begins gagging.
Berta Fort: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (19) + 7 = 26
Cal Fort: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (17) + 4 = 21
Lori Fort: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (15) + 5 = 20
Somehow all three manage to fight off the nausea and keep their wits about them. Vreeg seems unfazed by the lack of vomiting, cackling gleefully as he flies up and past the investigator, settling in the air behind and well above Caladaer. (He's currently 20 feet up. Since he's around a corner, I'm going to argue that the spell doesn't wrap around corners so Berta is not currently in darkness, not that it helps right at this moment. She's still fatigued. Fun fact, she can't Power Attack while fatigued--she has a 12 Str right now. Multiclassing hurt so bad.)
1d20 + 9 ⇒ (7) + 9 = 16 1d8 + 9 ⇒ (8) + 9 = 17
The zombie slams its fist down on Andakos and cracks several more ribs. (17 damage. That's max, sorry homie.) Thanks to Golloriel's healing, though, he's still upright--for now. But without your only eyes that can see in the dark--barring Thulae of course--Vreeg has put you in a very dangerous position.

Caladaer pulls a holy water from his belt and hands it to Thúlae. Not sure how you'll rule this; is that two move actions?

Berta can see now, but she's still feeling the effects of coming out of her rage. She opts to keep Andakos in the fight and hope he can survive another hit.

Oh right! Because Berta healed you. Can't forget those two hit points!
The zombie takes the spear directly in the throat. The wound certainly did damage, but you wouldn't have guessed it based on the zombie's reaction: it doesn't even register the hit.
Caladaer feels the darkness sink over him almost as a palpable thing. Then he hears a strange thwup noise, followed by a horrific, sharp pain in his back.
CRITICAL: Surprise Opening
Double damage and one free attack against the target with a -5 penalty.
Vreeg is pretty sure if he'd had a second dagger ready, he totally saw an opening. But he doesn't, so he only throws the single dagger into Caladaer's back, narrowly missing a lung. (10 damage total.) The wound itself is bad enough, but then Caladaer starts to feel something else creepin, a searing pain that makes him start to shiver...
Cal Fort: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (4) + 4 = 8
Caladaer shakes and coughs into his hand. He feels something warm and wet hit his palm, and the unsettling taste of copper fills his mouth. (1 con damage.) His vision starts to go hazy around the edges, and his limbs start to feel sluggish. He's pretty sure this poison doesn't just damage the nervous system. He thinks he may be blacking out...
***
It's hard to imagine, but things go even worse for Andakos than for Caladaer, as he takes another massive ogre fist to the face. This time there are no spins of the Wheel of Fate to try his luck again. He is paralyzed; he takes the blow full on the jaw, which cracks loudly. The sudden white-hot rush of agony blasts him into unconsciousness. (16 damage, holy s+$$. Andakos is unconscious and dying.)
Berta and Golloriel watch the huge tiefling fall backwards, stiff as a board, bleeding heavily from his wrecked face. The zombie slowly shifts its gaze toward Golloriel.
HOLY S&$!. I stand corrected. Berta literally f@&+ing saved your life! :O

Just to alleviate any concerns you may have, I'm gonna go ahead and have Berta go before Cal.
Berta screams in frustration, crying out in the strange otherworldly tongue again, before dropping to one knee and placing her hand on Andakos' hand. It looks tiny and childlike in comparison. She sends out another wave of positive energy into him. "Tas'al malnan, Desnan, pretari!"
"Please, Desna, spare this man!"
CLW: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 = 2
WOW. What the actual f*$$, Desna. She must have serious beef with Andakos. At least you're stable now.

Caladaer Eglen |

Caladaer feels Andakos's huge body slam the ground next to him and realizes it's now up to him to take out this derro wizard. He coughs, and even without being able to see his hand, he knows that he just coughed blood into it. He hopes he can hold off this poison long enough to take this s@&+head down.
Looking up, he sees that the light is closer to him here than it is a few steps to the west. He continues to look up as he walks slowly in that direction, until he reaches what he estimates is the high point of the darkness. Then he mutters a few quick words and aims a cone of invisible (to him) fire straight up.
Cal is wicked smaht, like way smarter than me, and even I figured out this little trick of geometry. I feel like he would figure this out. Feel free to overrule.

Yeah, even if I felt it was unrealistic (which I don't) you f@&$ing need it. Also it's 7 damage. If this was a 25 damage super-hit, maybe I'd give it more consideration. XD
Cal can't see the outcome of his spell, but he's judging by the distinct lack of horrified, agonized screaming that he probably didn't do as much damage with that spell as he wanted to.
Still, it shows the derro's defenses are not impenetrable. Perhaps there is hope for the party yet...

Unfortunately you can't 5-foot step into difficult terrain (Andakos), so that's an AoO.
The zombie takes advantage of Golloriel's distraction from checking her footing to club her on the side of the arm. The bone doesn't break, but there is definitely a bone bruise under there; she nearly drops her longspear from the force of the blow. (11 damage)
She manages to answer the blow with a blow, but it isn't quite as painful as its hit on her.
Vreeg sees Golloriel step into view, and decides to punish her for it, uttering an incantation. From the orb of darkness directly over the oracle's head, three missiles of pure force slam into her back. (9 damage.)
Caladaer feels the poison begin to take hold...
Cal Fort: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (3) + 4 = 7
The last thing Caladaer hears before falling into unconsciousness is the cackling of the derro necromancer.
Cal is unconscious for... well, it's a long time. The duration of this combat at the very least.
Vreeg drops down to the ground, and Golloriel finds herself plunged into darkness.

She feels the swelling rage return to her, and she rushes to the other side of the zombie to swing at its back with a heaving, bellowing warcry.
Unfortunately Golloriel is blind now so no flank, but hopefully I can still smush this bastard. This is getting really dicey.

You're alright!
Well. Okay. Your awfulness was not exacerbated by this particular action.
I'm going to throw you a bone and say you can make an Intelligence check to determine exactly what square Vreeg is in. It's not Perception because it's more a matter of running some basic geometry in your head. A DC 10 Intelligence check will let you know a 5ft step westward will put him in range of your longspear. He'll still get total concealment of course, but it gives you a fighting chance.

Using moment of clarity.
Int Check: 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (13) - 1 = 12
Berta can't understand exactly what Golloriel said, but she called her name in an excitable manner. She guesses the oracle found Vreeg. But there's an awful lot of darkness in that hallway, not to mention Andakos' huge, unconscious body.
But the anger is welling deep right now, so she decides to give it a shot. She hustles down the way as best she can, trying not to trip.
Acrobatics: 1d20 - 3 ⇒ (5) - 3 = 2
She steps on something--she really hopes it's Andakos' thigh and not... something else--and falls flat on her face, rapping her jaw against the rough-hewn stone ground. She scrambles back to her feet angrily, her momentum halted for now.
Had to happen eventually. Also I hadn't been including her ACP when rolling before. Oops. :S

Golloriel hears the dwarf slam into Andakos's prone form and groans. She wishes she had something, anything to do other than stab blindly with her spear. She could try to bring Andakos back, but she won't be able to heal him fast enough to prevent the necromancer from doing more nasty stuff.

Vreeg blows a sigh of relief as what could have been a killing blow instead just nicks the inside of his thigh. His relief is short-lived as an arterial spurt splashes forcefully against his opposite thigh, and he realizes with dawning horror that Golloriel has nicked his femoral artery. (4 damage this round.) It's only a matter of time, now...
With a shriek of rage and panic, he stumbles backward, off the prone form of Caladaer, and practically screams an incantation from the darkness.
He is casting scorching ray.
From the inky globe, a blindingly-bright beam of fire appears as if from nowhere and blasts Golloriel full in the chest. It passes right through her armor as if it weren't even there. She can feel the flesh of her chest and stomach ripple and bubble under the hideous, intense heat of the ray. (13 fire damage.) The oracle wavers on her feet as the edges of her vision slowly vanish in a dark haze. She is barely able to stand.
Since you all act in succession anyway I'm just moving Berta and Thul to the top of the initiative order and calling it round 12.

PFFFT nope. Downside of raging.
With a furious bellow, Berta rushes forward, stumbling over the bodies of her fallen allies, drawing her starknife as she goes. She lobs it into the darkness, but in her frenzied state, she can't gauge where the Hells that bastard is, and the starknife embeds itself in the rock wall behind him with a loud thwaaaang. Furious, Berta yells again at the top of her lungs, "Fer Malden grubanth alam, et fer Palden elderbrign odem!"
"Your mother was a hamster, and your father smellt of elderberries!"

Golloriel Eglen |

Golloriel is suddenly very glad she held a channel in reserve. She gasps for breath and tries to ignore the hideous pain long enough to ask Sarenrae to please get involved, if it's not too much trouble.
channel: 2d6 ⇒ (5, 4) = 9
I think that's my last channel, though HL says I've only used two. I'm going to assume she's out, and if it turns out I desperately need another one, I'll go back and check.
She then steps around the corner, getting herself out of line of sight.

Shrieking in rage, Berta runs after him. She's not letting him leave this place alive, not after what he and his master did to Gaekhen...
Double move.

Golloriel Eglen |

Okay, I just counted. Golloriel has used four channels in this fight. She's out for the day. Also, she should be at 13hp (9 + 4 from Fey Foundling). And Cal should be at 21 because of his Bitter trait. Sorry, I'll try to remember to mention those when I heal.
Golloriel hears Berta run after Vreeg. She silently curses her leg, knowing there is no way she could keep up. Instead, she walks around the corner to her father's side, then pulls out her smelling salts.

Berta hears something happen in the darkness, but she can't see what. Suddenly, as the globe moves away--accompanied by another pathetic whimper from Vreeg--the darkness leaves behind a new friend for Berta: the enormous, skeletal remains of a warhorse, stamping its bony hooves loudly against the stone floor, its teeth clacking together in a silent mimicry of a snort, and charges the barbarian. Its rotting, jagged teeth were once flat, but now, broken and yellow-brown as they are, they serve to tear into Berta's flesh. She ignores some of the damage but still bellows in pain.
